(As a queer, ex-catholic who went to catholic school, I know the end will hurt but maybe it'll be cathartic? lol)
“I want to tell Maddie, maybe… kinda. No, I mean I do. I want to tell Maddie.”
Eddie stared at him like he had grown two extra heads, “Jesus, Evan…”
He bit his bottom lip, tugging the sensitive flesh between his teeth in the way his mom had always hated. Maddie had been more a mother to him than his mom. She’d been the one patching up his scrapes every time he got hurt. Evan wanted her to know all of him. He knew why they snuck moments together at school —Eddie had laid all that out for him plenty of times before, but he didn’t need to hide from his sister.
“I think —no I know she’d be supportive. I know she’d be there for me. And it’s not like she knows anyone in your life. There’d be no chance the news could get back to your parents. And it’d be good I think, to hide a little less, right?”
There was only a beat after his words before Eddie’s lips were on his. The privacy of their shared room fueled his confidence. Evan let himself be swept away by the tornado of Eddie’s affection. He let himself be distracted from the fact that Eddie had never actually answered his question.

Julie and the Phantoms Catholic School AU head-cannons
Idk if I’ll ever write this AU, but this was kind of fun! Let me know what you think!
Julie and Carlos were both enrolled as Pre-K 4 students. Rose didn’t want to send them to school too early. Their parents sent them to Catholic school because it was smaller and they had friends who’s kid’s went there. Ray being the dad he is would let Julie or Carlos go to a different school if they wanted to.
Alex was enrolled as a pre-k 3 student. His parents are super devout pro-life Catholics. They go to confession twice a month, make Alex be involved in the youth group, and he’s an alter server. He hates every single aspect of it.
Saint Margret’s (the fictional school name) is actually known for its academics so Alex’s parents also put him in all honors and AP classes, which does not help with his stress levels at all.
Luke’s parents started sending him there in 7th grade. They can’t comfortably afford catholic school, but they lowkey hope that it will make it easier for him to focus and harder for him to skip class since the teacher student ratio is like 20-1. It is harder to sneak out, but he still manages to sneak away every once in a while and practice guitar.
Reggie is a scholarship student who was enrolled in 4th grade. He is strictly there for academics because the public school in his district was failing. One of his neighbors actually put his name in for a Knights of Columbus scholarship because they saw his potential and were worried about his wellbeing and wanted to make sure he got a decent education. He took three busses by himself just to get to school every day.
Carrie’s dad enrolled her in 9th grade as a way to keep her in line and help her focus on her studies. He read that a lot of the kids who went there ended up going to top colleges and he really didn’t want to have to write a big check to get her into school. She is constantly getting dress coded because she rolls up her skirt and tries to accessorize her uniform.
Bobby used to live with his Lola before he moved in with his Uncle Trevor and cousin Carrie. He started going in 10th grade with Carrie just so Trevor didn’t have to figure out how to get them to two separate schools. He was raised Catholic by his Lola, but he doesn’t really believe in god anymore.
Flynn is Julie’s neighbor and does not go to Catholic school. Los Feliz high is a great school and she is constantly trying to pressure Julie to transfer. She makes fun of Julie’s uniform and tries to pressure her to make her skirt shorter. Julie never gives into the peer pressure.
Willie has been kicked out of 6th schools and his dad enrolled him as a junior begging him to stay in line or he’ll have to be homeschooled. Willie knows he’s too social for that so he tries to behave, but he forgets the Catholic Church frowns upon homosexual relationships and gets caught making out with a blonde boy in the boys bathroom. Whoops!
The school doesn’t call Alex’s parents and tell them because Alex swears he’s not out yet and he really doesn’t want to get kicked out and he promises to go to confession that Friday. Both Alex and Willie get detention for two weeks and Alex’s parents ground him for that duration as well.
Julie and Alex have known each other their entire lives. Even though they weren’t in the same class they had the same lunch and recess time so they hung out a lot. They kind of consider themselves as siblings and Julie is the first person Alex comes out to.
Reggie, and Alex were in the same 4th grade class and became best friends. On nights when Reggie’s dad would get black out drunk he would ride his bike over to Alex’s house and sleep on his floor. Eventually Alex’s parents found out and they put a stop to it.
Reggie’s home life didn’t get better and he started sleeping at the beach or would sometimes sleep in the school. He stopped going home all together right after he started sophomore year. He would shower in the boys locker room and ask Alex if he could do laundry at his house since “their washer was busted and his mom won’t give him money to go to the laundromat.”
Ray found Reggie sleeping under the bleachers while setting up for a fall Halloween fundraiser. Reggie hadn’t been going home for almost three months at that point and he was never declared missing.
Ray called CPS, and ended up getting custody of Reggie as a kinship foster placement. The school wanted to expel Reggie for sneaking in after hours, but Ray was adamant he didn’t get a punishment. He swore he was going to pull Carlos and Julie out if they expelled Reggie since he was clearly being neglected and abused at home and he didn’t know what else to do.
The second Tia Victoria realized Reggie had basically been living off of school lunches for three months she made him so much homemade food. He instantly became a member of their family.

hi! okay i actually really like this little story. it’s very romeo and juliet coded. but it’s high school themed so buck is still going by evan -just a warning.
A hand reached out and grabbed Evan, yanking him into one of the alcoves of the school. He never understood why there were so many unused spaces in the building —a dwindling student population had been his only guess. Fear filled him for only a moment before his eyes focused on who had pulled him. The hand wrapped around his wrist eased and another hand found its way to his waist. His skin prickled at the contact, anticipation boiled over in him.
“Where exactly are you going?” The words would have concerned him if it weren’t for the stubble tone that hinted at flirtation.
“Not all of us get a free period. I have English and—”
“Play hooky and come back to bed with me.”
“Eds…”
The idea of falling back into one of their beds was appealing. Evan hated English anyway, it hadn’t been as bad in his public schools or even the private school his parents had sent him to but Catholic school was proving to be a bitch. He hated it just as much as he assumed he would. Except for Eddie. Eddie Diaz was the roommate from hell for all of about one day and somewhere along the way the lines between them had blurred.
“I’ve got snacks,” Eddie offered like it was an enticement to his original statement.
Evan just laughed, “You handing out treats from a white van?”
“Like it would take that to get you in bed with me.”
He wasn’t wrong but Evan wouldn’t point it out. He’d like to maintain the idea that he had some type of self control. Self image and confidence he hadn’t gotten a grasp on yet. But control he could still figure out.

I know I post intermittently abt the basketball AU of ASOIAF that lives in my head rent free but anyways the women’s college basketball season in the US just ended and I really do have some thoughts:
Sansa Stark 6’3” and kind of stacked she SHOULD be a post player but has never once driven to the basket in her LIFE. Somehow manages to make up for this in sheer volume of 3 pointers. Keeps getting compared to her mom who was the most terrifying power forward you ever saw in the Riverlands 20-something years ago despite the fact that there is almost nothing in common with their game styles.
Arya Stark, guard, has a really sweet mid-range game that everyone always forgets about but she’s got like 18 points in 28 min, makes about 5 steals a game. Unfortunately, gets in foul trouble. Keeps getting compared to Jon which drives her nuts.
Robb, went to the Westerosi National Basketball League at like 18, but before the championship game, the coach of an opposing team got a second coach to get players to deliberately injure him during a game. Somehow he got called for a technical foul on this. Ended his career in professional sports.
Dany, 5’6”, floor general and sharpshooter. Regularly beats defenders with more than half a foot on her to rebounds. Plays internationally full-time but her highlight reels still end up on Westerosi ESPN bc her family was at one point a dynasty in the basketball world. 90% of her instagram page is her with her three lizards.
Brienne is the Post Player’s Post Player— always boxes out, gets the rebound, blocks shots, drives etc, impeccable footwork. And then she also hits from distance and can guard. Cersei, the aging vet on the Lannisport Lions, wants her dead for once committing SEVEN blocks on her in a game when she was a rookie. Currently coached by Cat for the Riverlands Fighting Trout. There is a not insignificant fanbase of lesbians who want her to crush their heads with her thighs online but she is tragically into disgraced ex-Lions player Jaime Lannister who keeps bumming around the Riverlands for unclear reasons.
<insert that one post about Aeron Greyjoy as a basketball player here>
Jon Snow has been fouled out of games with technicals. He has never made a basket apart from a fast break layup or a free throw— except for like, two separate years??? where he got his team to the semifinals through a buzzer beater logo 3????? Somehow the undisputed defensive player of the year, the most universally loathed player in his conference, beloved by his own team, and a guy who once went viral for a video of him crying on his girlfriend after HER team lost while she just sort of patted his head.

「 ✦ 𝐌𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐎’𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐚 & 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐦 ✦ 」
Warnings for: religious trauma, religious guilt, religious abuse, mentions of lent, smoking/drinking, catholic school, sex, violence/fighting, confession, prayer
Notes: this is based off an AU of a fic I’m hoping to get out this weekend where Miguel is an up and coming boxer with a checkered past. This is my! Miguel i make the rules 😘
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Poor Miguel embodies catholic guilt to me. I feel like he went to catholic school and never recovered. He’s always had a temper and he’d get into fights with the other boys. He’d come with a bloody lip or a chipped tooth. I know Nuns stopped using corporal punishment in the 70s but this is my AU. Poor Miguel would get an earful and have to stay after to write lines and clean erasers. And if he was especially unlucky, a paddling. All of this only made him more angry.
He learned the Bible backward and forward. He learned his prayers, how to do the Rosary and say the Our Father. Raised to say Grace before every meal, to say your prayers on your knees before bed every night. To thank God for letting you live to see another day. He went to church every Sunday and he got his first communion and his confirmation. The photos are framed on the mantel in his parent’s home.
His anger never went away as he got older. He was known to pick fights, and to get kicked out bars. He was a rebellious teenager, mad at God, and at himself. He felt that it was going to hell anyways, he might as well make it worth his time. He’d sneak out at night, and drink with his friends. He was rowdy, loud, and reckless. He loved to drive too fast and almost got his license suspended before he’d even had it a year because he had so many speeding tickets. He’d jump the subway turnstiles and steal small things from bodegas and drug stores.
As a young adult, Miguel had a steady girlfriend. It was rocky but he was trying his best. He really cared about her and wanted to clean up his act for her. She was patient and tender, just like the Saints were supposed to be. She was a Good Catholic Girl, just what his parents wanted. But Catholic school doesn’t provide sex education. They got pregnant; Their parents pressured them into a hasty marriage before she could start showing. That’s what you’re supposed to do.
They had a beautiful baby girl, Gabriella. Miguel cried the day she was born. He knew he’d love her more than anything else for the rest of his life. He tried so hard to get his shit together for real this time. He got a real job, even. But the pressure to be the strong man of the house got to him. He started drinking heavily again, and he’d stay out late. His wife found out he was unfaithful and she left, taking Gabriella with her. Miguel’s bad behavior only gave him weekends and every other holiday.
He felt like the sky was falling, and he spiraled. He went back to church and talked to the priest. He was told to have faith in the Lord to guide him. The Lord was his shepherd and he must be patient and willing to listen. What a lousy shepherd
He eventually landed in prison for a couple years. Assault and Burglary lead to hard time. He got out on good behavior but didn’t have anywhere to go. He found a distant cousin to crash with until he got on his feet. His cousin frequented a local boxing gym, and Miguel fell in love the sport. He was a natural at it, and it was healthy outlet for his emotions.
He was working on a better custody deal with Gabriella’s mother when suddenly she passed away in a tragic accident. Miguel had found himself thrust into full custody. He enrolled the young girl in Catholic school, hoping for her to have a better relationship with God than he did. His life was just starting to be back on track when he met you at the bus stop. You’d dropped your token down a storm drain and he’d paid for your fare. He’d assumed that would be the last time he’d ever see you, but you’d slipped a post it with your cell number in his bag.
Will everything get derailed again? Or will Miguel find another saintly woman to love?
