Jupiter Influence Among Korean Actors

Over the years, I have noticed a distinct pattern in the Korean entertainment industry, where most stars considered to be icons have strong Jupiter influence in their charts. Korean general public prefers celebs with a graceful and elegant image, who also have "duality" (they're cute but fierce) and Jupiter natives are endowed with these charms.

I had already mentioned female Kpop idols & Jupiter influence on a previous post, so, this post will focus mainly on Korean actors.

Song Hye Kyo is arguably the most successful Korean actress of all time. She has been in the top billing for over 20years at this point.

She has Hasta Moon (I had mentioned in another post about how Hasta women are revered for their femininity and grace), Uttarashada Ketu (UA gives one a glamorous image) and Vishaka Mercury Atmakaraka.

Atmakaraka is what signifies our soul's purpose, hers lies in the Jupiterean nak of Vishaka.

In fact, its very common for Korean actors to have their atmakaraka or amatyakaraka in a Jupiter nakshatra.

2. Park Minyoung has Venus in Purvabhadrapada as her atmakaraka

She rose to fame playing a young girl who disguises herself as a guy in order to attend school in ancient Korea. It is her family's dire circumstances that push her to attend school in order to find work. This whole drama is very Jupiter coded and the majority of the cast have strong Jupiter placements as well.

Her most popular drama is What's Wrong With Secretary Kim where she plays the secretary to a CEO who is almost inept without her micromanaging his life. I've noticed that many Jupiter women tend to be in this position where, in whatever relationship dynamic, others don't know what to do in her absence because she often single-handedly runs the whole place and makes it look easy and only in her absence do they realise that its far from easy.

3.Kim Ji-won is Punarvasu moon

One of her best known roles is that of Choi Ae-ra in Fight My Way, which I would say is a very typical Punarvasu character. Punarvasu's enthusiasm, almost childlike behaviour and charm can fit the description of a quintessential Asian romcom protagonist and Choi Ae-ra is a very good example of the same. Her rise from the bottom rung of the ladder to working hard to get where she is, is also a very Jupiterean tale (since Jupiter moon natives go through their Saturn mahadasha as young adults).

4.Kim Go-eun has Punarvasu mercury & ketu

Kim Go-eun's first ever starring role was as Eungyo in the movie of the same name.

It is the story of a teenage girl who becomes the object of desire for a 70yr old poet. The movie is very Punarvasu coded imo. In fact, regarding her casting, the novelist, whose book was adapted to the film, had this to say:

Her character in When the Camellia Blooms is very Jupiter coded. Jupiter energy can often be manifest as a kind of innocence and naivete and a tendency to be a goody two-shoes.

6.Shin Min-ah has Saturn in Vishaka as amatyakaraka

Her most well known role would be that of a doctor in Hometown Cha Cha Cha, in which she plays a person who refuses to compromise on her principles/ethics to get ahead in her career and has to end up leaving Seoul for a small town. This is again, very Jupiter coded because Jupiter influence makes natives very righteous and possess a strong sense of integrity.

7.Han So hee is Vishaka sun

She was recently in an MV for Jungkook's song 'Seven' which features a quarrelling couple. I've often noticed that with many famous Vishaka women, fighting with their partner, often publicly seems to become attached to their public image. This could also apply to their relationships becoming controversial in general. Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Lana Del Rey, Jennie etc all have their luminaries in Vishaka with the exception of Lana who has a Vishaka stellium and they've all had relationship drama that caught public attention in a major way.

The role that catapulted Han So Hee to fame was that of a married man's mistress in the drama The World of the Married👀

8. Jung So-min has Purvabhadrapada Sun & Venus (atmakaraka), Punarvasu Moon (amatyakaraka)

in Because This Is My First Life, she plays a broke writer who despite being a good daughter is not appreciated by her family at all, and despite being good at what she does, faces trouble in her workplace and is overall just going through a not so good time . As I've said before, Jupiter natives go through their Saturn Mahadasha as young adults and this phase is a difficult one where they have to work very very hard to get things done and make any kind of progress. Most K-dramas that focus on the adversities of life, as experienced by a 20 something probably has a Jupiter dominant native as its protagonist.

in general, the reason why Jupiter dominant men & women dominate Korean entertainment, be it music or dramas, is because of the kind of content that Korean entertainment focuses on and the kind of people that the Korean public chooses to support. K-Dramas are known for their complex plots, often focusing on people at conflict with their values and ideas, struggling with their conscience, facing life's challenges and overcoming adversity; class struggles, portrayal of wealth/lack of it, rising to the top, underdogs emerging as winners etc. These are inherently Jupiterean.

Even with Korean music, it has a unique system in place where idols have to "train" for several years before they make their debut. Being hardworking and being an "ace" who excels in several areas is prided on in Korea; in such a culture, it makes sense why Jupiter dominants emerge as the ones on the very top of the food chain.

Now, we'll talk about some male actors😋😌

Lee Minho has Mars in Punarvasu & Mercury in Punarvasu (his atmakaraka & amatyakaraka)

Honestly, his entire filmography is very Jupiter coded 🤣 The role that made him a household name was that of rich, spoilt heir to an immensely wealthy family who is the most popular guy in school and leader of his rat pack.

His most successful role is that of a King in the drama The King: Eternal Monarch which is about an ancient Korean emperor who time travels through a portal into modern-day Korea. Both the fact that he's playing nobility as well as the fact that the drama features time travel/alternate reality esque things makes it VERY Punarvasu coded.

(Punarvasu's element is ether and its deity Goddess Aditi is the Mother Goddess and creator the universe itself, many time travel/movies about the nature of reality feature Jupiter natives)

The drama co-stars Kim Go-Eun, who I have already mentioned above as a Punarvasu girlie🥰

He starred in the movie "Silenced" which was based on a horrifying true story where he plays a teacher at a school who tries to stand up for and protect differently abled children who are routinely subject to extremely cruel and abusive treatment at a boarding school.

Punarvasu natives are known for standing up for others, especially those who do not have a voice/who are unable to stand up for themselves. These natives have a strong sense of justice and empathy and do not think twice about questioning authority.

His character in Coffee Prince is one which made him a household name and in this drama, he plays a chaebol heir who falls for a young guy who is actually a woman disguising herself as a guy 💀I feel like Jupiter men have at least one movie/show in their filmography that is very queer coded (ex: Keanu Reeves, Punarvasu Moon with My Own Private Idaho)

His most well known character is that of Goblin in the drama of the same name, where he plays an immortal who seeks salvation. Very Punarvasu coded.

This is just a personal observation but I've noticed how many Punarvasu men have an androgynous vibe 🥵

3.Kim Woo Bin is Punarvasu sun (atmakaraka) and mercury

His breakout role was that of a wealthy chaebol heir in the drama, The Heirs.

Playing the CEO's son or the CEO, who is initially arrogant and then faces different trials and tribulations and ultimately redeems himself is a common Kdrama trope and I've noticed that the actors picked for these parts the most tend to be Jupiter-dominant.

4.Song Joong Ki has Vishaka moon & saturn (his atmakaraka)

Vishaka is a rakshasa gana nakshatra and I'd previously observed how many mafia movies feature rakshasa gana natives as the main leads. Joong-ki's Vincenzo sees him play a mafia lawyer.

His character is Arthdal Chronicles (featuring fellow Jupiter girlie, Kim Ji Won) is also very Jupiter coded. Its about the birth of civilization and life in the ancient world. Joong Ki plays the leader of his clan.

5.Park Seo Joon has Purvabhadrapada moon (his amatyakaraka)

He is one of those actors who plays himself in every show/movie he does. This means all his characters are charming, slightly awkward or a little dumb, but good natured and caring individuals who go above and beyond for others. This is like a quintessential Jupiter man trope.

Especially his character in Fight My Way, is VERY Jupiter coded and features fellow Jupiter native, Kim Ji-Won.

A slightly stupid but endearingly adorkable guy who works a low end job and trains to be a boxer whilst looking out for his friends and loved ones? Especially his whole side arc with his ex gf on the show is such a Jupiter guy thing; to forgive a woman and be there for her even though she never cared for him and only kept him around because he was sooo nice to her and did everything for her. I've seen this happen with many Jupiter guys because as Claire said in her video these are the nice guys who women keep in the friend zone because even though they're perfect and extremely courteous, women don't feel like they could be a serious partner.

His character in Itaewon Class explores Jupiter in a different way. He is a struggling businessman who is engaged in a long drawn out battle with a chaebol and finally emerges victorious in the end. Despite the chaebol's petty and below the belt tactics, Seo-joon's character always took the high road and held on to his principles and conducted himself with integrity. Jupiter natives are almost always destined to be the bigger person.

6.Park Bogum has Mercury in Punarvasu as his atmakaraka

He rose to fame for playing a motherless prodigy on Reply 1988. His character was a typical Jupiter one; he's very talented, successful and recognised for the same but he takes no pleasure in it and does not really indulge in the privileges it offers him.

His most famous role would be that of a Prince who falls in love with his eunuch (who is actually just a woman pretending to be a eunuch) in the drama Love in the Moonlight. Like I said before, Jupiter guys have at least one queer coded project in their filmography lol.

Ah, the perfect Phantom to finish my journey and relieve me from my tears after the painful two show Kim Ju-taek/Jo Seung-woo slam the day before! Yes, please erase the poor meow meow thoughts from my mind!

My 6th and final round of POTO and 1st round of 'Choi Jae-rim is a Traumatized French Man Double Marathon'. His only scheduled POTO show during my stay was the day before Les Mis opening night in Busan. So I did not have a spare day like I thought would and I had to hop cities the next morning to see him as Valjean. I originally had a seat up high, but I just had to move myself close on the floor again for my grand finale. Seeing a seat open up during cancellations near my favorite side of the stage, the side with the most action, pretty much sealed the deal. I've always wanted to see a ~scary~ Phantom so let's go out with a bang!

If you're looking for some Erik x Christine, wrong Phantom for you! There wasn't much sugar-coating here. CJR Phantom is the opposite of JSW and JDS Phantoms to me; he's the most like a dark fallen angel. He's dangerous, unnerving, and has a lot more confidence with his actions than the others.

Hannibal Rehearsal / Think of Me

The audience seemed especially hyped today lol. Park Hoe-rim always holds Piangi’s note in Hannibal for a very long time and people applaud him for it. The cheers were loud today though even though audiences usually didn’t make much noise to avoid being disruptive! At the end of Song Eun-hye’s ‘Think of Me’ there was also a very excited reaction from the audience. Love this cast showing off where they can heh

First Lair | MOTN/STYDI

He's the only Phantom to sing "넌 이곳에 오직 나만을 위하여 / You are here for me alone" as "넌 이곳에 오직 한가지 이유로 / You are here for only one reason" at the organ because he's just different and not like other girls okay During MOTN, he was was confidently luring and hypnotizing her with no hesitation or uncertainty. The way he moved his entire body, especially his arms and hands (huge hands goddamn dude), was very flashy and dramatic. He's "overdoing it", but in a way that's very fitting for his Phantom's eccentric personality. I think you can already tell something is off about his Phantom as a person here. You can hear it in his voice a bit too. It had a sort of unearthly mesmerizing quality to it. This is the closest to a mysterious dark angel out of the Phantoms. He's especially possessive, but it's more in the way you might expect and different from KJT Phantom. The way he draws her to him with his hands, the way he touches his lips when he comes around the organ towards her 👀 He even tugged her along a bit when he led her to the bride in the mirror and urged her to look at the gift. With SEH Christine it was interesting to see her slowly unwind throughout the song since she's the more hesitant of the two. A Christine like SJS is definitely easier "prey" for him

Here's a little taste of his Music of the Night. Some of his more dramatic movements are actually a little bit similar to how he moved as the Phantom in this song, but he has a specific strange aura when actually in character.

I Remember / Stranger Than You Dream It

...SEH Christine is a little too curious and innocent maybe. Because wow if I saw a big weird masked man looking like that while working I simply? Would not want to mess with him at all, not getting anywhere near him. While the music box played, he was breathing (almost grunting) very audibly and heavily in frustration. He was very tense and focused. She was very playful and even mischievous-looking as she tried to swipe at his mask. It was like a game to her. Right at the moment he seemed to find his flow, playing the music in the air with his eyes closed, she succeeded. He's the scariest one during the outburst! His voice sounded venomous at the start and his eyes were wild as he covered the side of his face with both hands. The way he tilted his head watching her was very off-putting. Actually rather than becoming sadder, he almost seemed even creepier as he got closer. My seat was very close on that end of the stage and as I saw him approaching I wanted to back away myself! But at the end, I did start to feel sorry for him. It was really pitiful seeing this magnificent and seemingly magical genius be reduced to...this. The other Phantoms appear more human here, but he truly did look like some dark being trying desperately to be like a regular human, trying to be a part of this world. The angel of music is not, in fact, an angel, but....well who knows what he is. When she returned the mask, he looked like he couldn't make sense of what was happening. I could see his eyes glistening a little like tears were threatening to fall. I think he felt especially uncomfortable looking so weak in front of her. His Phantom felt like he had everything completely under control, but he managed to be disarmed so suddenly. His face was now revealed as well as the hidden dark part of himself

AIAOY Reprise

Kinda upset that my angle made it difficult to see him because the angel wing was obstructing him the times he wasn't leaning forward enough. But also how does he even fit on there. And also how did he manage to be the one who moved the least? He must be folded like an origami piece up there. Anyway oh boy. When saying Christine's name the first time, he sounded broken and small while looking down. But the second time he slowly lifted his head giving a cold dark stare ahead and spoke in a low and threatening voice that faded off. He had this rage building up and spreading through him and began his final lines in a harsh growling voice. He's extra intimidating because he kind of just fully gets up making himself as big as possible. I was laughing during intermission when I was heading to the lobby and two girls ran by me in the aisle going "EEEEE 무서워요!! / I'm scared!" So true, girlies, so true

Why So Silent?

JDS/KJT Phantoms lift up Christine's chin when they finally address her, but he pulled her a little roughly towards him. Not a big thing but definitely got a yikes from me when I saw it!

Wandering Child

Oh he is so weird and freaky somebody's gotta push him off that mausoleum I don't like it (no I love it as an acting choice though I just mean it's uncomfortable) 😭 The way he moves his entire body so much is so creepy? How do I even describe those movements. He would crouch or lean forward in a lunging position, but also made these big gestures with his arms again and looked like he was trying to use some power to pull Christine towards him He used an odd sarcastic tone mocking Raoul like he barely even viewed him as a threat.

The Point of No Return

The trap is set and waits for its prey! ...But also, Christine, Piangi just grew like 10 feet taller turning into a brick wall of a man and you don't find this.... suspicious maybe? No? Okay... He opens that curtain and it's like:

ANYWAY He had such an eerie way of singing to me. There was this hypnotic energy again like in MOTN. Once again the hands...when he tips her head side to side with his fingers under her chin in his last lines of his verse it's like he's putting her in a trance. She actually looked a bit disoriented for a moment, but her expression was slowly changing like she was suspecting something was wrong even before she turned to him. He was scarily calm looking throughout the song. You mostly just saw his shoulders moving from his slow steady breathing. Occasionally he would slowly take a look at her to see what she was doing, but it was more like he was preparing himself than getting stressed. She touched him and he only flinched very slightly before reaching up to her completely ready to join their hands. He was practically pulling her down actually to touch her more. I think he was sure that he was succeeding. When she had discovered him, he closed in like a beast about to pounce with his hands in position to grab her in case she tried to flee. But when she threw the hood off he was taken off guard During the AIAOY Reprise "언제나, 어디든, 영원히 / Always, anywhere, forever" -> "Anywhere you go let me go too" was a painful cry as well as the word "어둠에 / (into) darkness" in "또 다시 지옥 같은 어둠에 / Once again into darkness like hell" later for Down Once More and he delivered his next lines in a terrifying voice. It was similar to the AIAOY Reprise on the angel. I have to admit it partially concerned me (just because here and Les Mis he had a few slight rough moments, he cracked a tiny bit at the very end of 'Who Am I' after an otherwise very solid note). Overall though I think he has amazing ability and it's just wear from the rough schedule he has unfortunately. The choices did work either way!

Final Lair

He is so unhinged and unstable. Now he had this rough vicious villainous tone and sometimes he used that mocking voice again like he did in 'Bravo Monsieur'. He practically hissed out the line about the world never accepting him. His gestures with his arms were so theatrical and huge and the way he moved about was so heavy, jerky, and unsettling. When he threw the noose on Raoul he had the most terrifying laugh and jumped a little spitting out his taunts loudly He stood up fast and leaned in close to her face to whisper “날 시험하지말고 / Don't test me” so very quietly before he screamed for her to choose. He said it with spite in his voice, but he was actually holding back tears when he turned around. He had been so dangerous before, but Christine managed to disarm him once again with her words. Christine dropped lower from her position on her knees with a sob. It wasn't out of fear, seeing him like this just seemed to hurt her. This kiss was an interesting one to analyze. Some people thought this part tends to make him seem unmoved? But I disagree with the conclusion some people had made around that time that his Phantom didn't change or develop. He wasn't very openly reactive to the first one, he was completely frozen. The second time he clenched and unclenched his fists until he pulled her hand away quickly and rushed off staggering and holding his head. I saw reviews saying he would simply repeat his actions over again based on his reactions. I personally just think his change is different. I think CJR Phantom thinks he knows everything and that he can control everything that will happen so it scares him when he faces something unexpected. I think this is why he started to finally unravel at the very end. He cannot predict anything Christine will do, she always does the opposite of what he would think. Love and compassion were the last things he would ever expect. I don't even think he knew what kindness looks like. But he finally understood in that moment and he also understood that he couldn't force her to be there with him now. Something I noted during this performance in particular: HGH Raoul tried to urge Christine that they need to leave, but SWG would seem a bit confused in the moment and look at the Phantom like he was trying to understand what just happened. It just especially stood out to me across from CJR Phantom because of how much of a threat he had been. He was trying to process this because of the way the Phantom was just moments before and almost looked like he maybe even pitied him in a weird way. Christine came back pretty early this time to return the ring and watched the Phantom while covering her mouth in disbelief. It was as if this was the one moment he finally showed his real human side to her. She could really see him as a regular man now. When he realized she was there, he was really startled and practically jumped away like he was bracing himself for something (perhaps thinking the mob had arrived for him?). He went over to her wondering why she had returned, but once he realized he softly sang that he loved her. She nodded knowingly trying to hold back her tears. He looked so small suddenly when she left him alone there

Please when I tell you Jae-rim got the loudest screams out of every curtain call I experienced lol. He was goofing off, but at one point the shrieking was so loud he looked a little embarrassed about it heh. Even louder than that though was his Les Mis curtain call where everyone just about lost their goddamn minds seeing him pick up and spin little Cosette (I was one of those people, I'm weak)

"Ah, now I get it." Jung Min-jee whispered to herself as she jotted down the answer to the last problem of her homework. She quietly thanked Choi Nam Ra as both girls began to pack up.

Glancing up she noticed Park Soo-jin waving her arms around trying to get her attention. Before the short girl could mouth something small to her, Nam-ra spoke up, "message me if you need help with anything, see you tomorrow right?" Min-jee nodded and mumbled to her a quick thanks and bye. Nam-ra walked away, heading home. Min-jee looked over at Soo-jin whose attention was on some random kid Min-jee didn’t know. She slung her backpack on and walked out of the library going over to Soo-jin quietly. Soo-jin bid a quick bye to the person she was talking to and just as she was going to turn around Min-jee extended her arms out and tickled Soo-jin's side, "Boo!" The brown-haired girl shrieked and turned around with a smile on her face, "why must you do that?" She lightly pushed the black hair girl before slinging her arm around her, "you scared me." "That was the plan." Soo-jin shook her head as both walked down the hallway slowly, “well now that I almost died because of you we must go get Hwa-young, she's in a club right?” Min-jee nodded and glanced around, “tsk, yeah, gardening right?” “I think so,” both girls then began to walk around the school looking for Hwa-young. Finally, they found her, she had just finished cleaning her area not that long ago and was talking to a classmate that was in the same club as her. Kim Hwa-young saw the two girls and bid her club members byes and see you next week. She then walked up to the girls smiling brightly, “hey.” “Hey.” “S’up” “gaming later on?" The two girls who had met up with Hwa-young parted and went on each side of her, "sure, discord right?" "yes, although I won't join until later on due to having family over." Soo-jin looked at Hwa-young and shook her head, "it's okay, we won't start until 6 pm which is the usual time we finish homework." Min-jee nodded agreeing with Soo-jin, " no need to stress sunshine. Now come on, the bus should arrive soon." The trio picked up their pace and got on public transportation once it arrived.

They soon got off after thanking the driver and walked into the convenience store, a beep went off as the group entered the store, "meet back by the drinks." All three nodded and immediately split off in different directions and began to search for the snacks they wanted.

Min-jee grabbed a Snickers candy bar, Hwa-young grabbed a bag of Reese's peanut butter cups, and Soo-jin grabbed a bag of Skittles. The three girls met up in the front and looked at each other before moving a hand forward quickly for a game of rock, paper, and scissors. Hwa-young won the first round, and Soo-jin and Min-jee stared at each other for a moment before they thrust their hands out... Min-jee lost. She grabbed their snacks and went up to pay at the counter. Last time it was Hwa-young who had to pay. After she paid for the snacks, she walked out and handed them their snacks. Soon after the trio walked next to each other on the peaceful street. The trio ate their snacks in silence until Hwa-young spoke up, "You guys should join the gardening club with me, it’d be fun.” Min-jee thought about it for a moment before shaking her head, “can’t, I study with Nam Ra on Math.” Soo-jin giggled, “makes sense, you’re really stupid in math." Min-jee looked over at Soo-jin, "would you like to see a trick?" Soo-jin stared into the shorter girl's eyes and shook her head, "n-no thanks... But back to Hwa-young's question, I got roped into soccer." "Wait, really? Congrats." "Ooh that's good, u always wanted to try out and you finally did." Soo-jin smiled and looked at both girls, "yeah, I have practice tomorrow." Soon their chatter died down as they all arrived at the street their home resides. Min-jee bid them a small bye and rushed home since hers was three streets down. The two remaining girls conversed as they walked together. Hwa-young and Soo-jin both lived in the same apartment building, although Hwa-young was a level below and further down. …………….. "Wait so when do you plan to confess Jinie, have they been showing you any signals?" All three girls were on call on discord as they played PUBG. They had their mics off in the game due to already talking on discord. Since 6 pm as the other two finished their homework, they have been playing Roblox and other multiplayer games. It was now 10, in Hwa-young's background her mom was telling her to head to bed, and as she yelled out a small okay she turn back to the girls, "I have to head to bed guys, see u tomorrow at school." "Okay, sleep well sun," "Alright, rest well, and goodnight." Hwa-young hung up, and Min-jee and Soo-jin played 3 rounds before deciding to stop. "So... Mj I have a question." "Hmm?" "Remember that deal we made?" "Yeah, the one where if one of us were to confess then the one that did can choose and they'd have to confess, right?" "Yeah, well... I choose you." Morning came, it was 6:10 A.M. Out in the streets of Hyosan were high school students walking to school. Going down a small hill two girls were in a deep conversation about the events of yesterday in the game. While Hwa-young and Soo-jin conversed a voice from afar can be heard telling them to pick up their pace. As the voice got closer they turned around and there Jung Min-jee was running in their direction, "Yah hurry up losers!" Jung Min-jee called out upon spotting her two best friends up in the distance, two other students were running right behind her. Both girls looked back and panicked slightly as they saw Min-jee, Nam On-jo, and Lee Cheong-san, All three of them were running towards the two girls, Hwa-young checked the time quickly and realized why they were running, "fuck, RUN!" …………….. All 5 students raced to the school, only 3 made it barely on time while the others didn't. Cheong-San snickered toward On-jo while Soo-jin did the same thing toward Min-jee. Once they had written down their names all 5 began to walk to class. The 5 students walked up the stairs and headed toward their classrooms in a hurry. As soon as they entered On-jo went to her seat beside Yoon I-sak. Soo-jin went to her seat that was behind I-sak, the two girls followed and stood beside her as Soo-jin moved her chair to face them. Min-jee looked outside with a bothered expression. Hwa-young and Soo-jin stopped conversing and looked at Min-jee who hadn't said anything since they got to school. "Mj are you okay?" Min-jee looked at Hwa-young and Soo-jin before shaking her head. "I feel like something's off." Both girls glanced at each other while waiting for her to continue. "I feel sick and out of it. It's probably nothing." Hwa-young glanced at Soo-jin as they wondered why, but soon dropped it calling the feeling nothing but just anxiety. Deep down they knew what the feelings meant, but decided to brush it aside seeing as Min-jee didn't wanna pursue the topic. Hwa-young thought for a moment before looking at the short girl who stood beside her, "Tell us if you feel worse okay." Soo-jin nodded at Hwa-young's response whereas Min-jee just gave them a simple nod, "I will, I think I'm going to head to my desk now." Both girls nodded and looked at each other. "Cut it out! You're so dirty." Na-Yeon yelled grabbing her bag harshly that forced Gyeong-su to move his arm that was trying to clean her desk from 'germs'. Soo-jin rolled her eyes and pouted, "I wish you didn't have to sit beside her. How do you manage?" Hwa-young shrugged, "not sure, gotta go now." Hwa-young walked to her seat and sat down ignoring the girl beside her as she fixed her stuff before class started. Once Min-jee had arrived at her seat she greeted Nam Ra before turning to look at the girl beside her only to see that she looked pale and uncomfortable. "Hee-su, are you okay?" Park Hee Su noodled at the girl beside her before muttering a small hello to her. Min-jee continued to look at her before she jumped in her seat due to one of her classmates yelling at another classmate. She glanced over at them and looked at Hwa-young who was heading to her desk. "Hey, you punks. Come on, guys. Take your seats." Ms. Park Sun-hwa said as soon as she walked into the classroom. Most students who were still up scattered to their seats. "Annyeong, there." "Annyeong!" "Annyeong, good morning. Time to hand in your phones." 25 students stood up to turn in their phones. "Who's in touch with Hyeon-ju? Nobody? So none of you tried calling her today?" Oh Joon-Yeong cleared his throat before looking up at Ms. Park Sun-hwa, "uh, we cleaned the science lab together yesterday, but I haven't seen her since." Ms. Park sighed for a moment as she thought, "okay. If anyone hears from her sometime in the next few days, let me know right away, okay?" "Okay." "Exams start next week, so get your acts together." Ms. Park said as she sent a message to the class group chat. Two students got caught Yang Dae-su and Soo-jin. Soo-jin and Min-jee glanced at each other as they looked at Hwa-young with a 'haha you got caught,' smile. Hwa-young narrowed her eyes a bit as she smiled and sat back down. Soon after almost all phones had been collected, Ms. Park began her lecture. …………….. Min-jee kept glancing over at Hee-su noticing the girl gripping the table's sides. Just as she was about to tell Ms. Park that Hee-su didn't look well, Hee-su stood up asking to go to the bathroom. The short girl watched her friend walk out. Min-jee kept her stare at the door Hee-su had just walked out from. The unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach wasn't settling and it seemed to keep wanting to continue strong.

Soo-jin stared at the blackboard in boredom as the teacher tapped on it before looking down at her book and skimming through the page they were reading. She looked up and turned her head over at Lee Su-hyeok direction who had been called on before looking at Hwa-young who had met her gaze. Soo-jin wiggled her eyebrows while giving Hwa-young a smirk. Everyone's attention shifted towards the front, over at the door that had slid open. In walked Kim Hyeon-ju.

Doctor Cha (2023)

I got a fever, and the only prescription is more melodramas!

I usually hate love triangles, but it wasn’t so bad with this show. I think it helped that the entire premise was so unbelievable that I was able to just sit back and embrace the chaos. 

What Worked 

The show did a great job at letting you know what you were in for right from the first episode—an over the top, unrealistic situation with fun characters. The entire plot was building towards this dramatic train wreck where the protagonist (who was almost too good to be true) hit the final straw, and gave the terrible husband and mother-in-law exactly what they deserved. And that whole part of the story was completely engrossing. 

What Didn’t Work 

The writers didn’t bungle the ending, I still liked it, but I think they played it a little safe. All of the messed up relationships that were causing the delicious drama wrapped up on mostly good terms. That’s a nice story in a way, but I don’t think it was as cathartic. 

Still, it’s a better story than real life, where men like the cheating husband often end up prospering, without really learning their lesson. 

The Performances

Uhm Jung-hwa as “Doctor Mom” Cha Jeong-suk. I first saw this actress in “Our Blues” and I really liked her in that. Though the writing in this show isn’t quite as good, her performance in this show was just as good and even better in some respects. Really fun to watch this actress at work. 

Kim Byung-chul as “Dirty Cheating Doctor” Seo In-ho. His character was supposed to be both pathetic and hate-able and the actor hit the brief very well. A lot of the charm in this show was watching him get his just desserts and suffer, while still being an unrepentant jerk. 

It’s not exactly hate watching when the show clearly wants you to hate him. The fact that I never got tired of watching him, shows just how good his acting was. 

Myung Se-bin as “Lady Cheating Doctor” Choi Seung-hee. This actor had a tough job to do. The writers kept shifting her motivation and relationships around and overall she did a good job making it work. I think her best scenes were with Eun-Seo, but she was still okay to watch overall. 

Min Woo-hyuk as “The Good Doctor” Roy Kim. I enjoyed his performance. It was fun watching him go in and ruffle everyone’s feathers by being a good guy who doesn’t take anyone’s nonsense. I think his arc mostly peaked early though and he was less interesting towards the end of the series. 

Song Ji-ho as “Doctor Son” Seo Jung-min. He had some great comic moments and I enjoyed watching his relationship with the girlfriend. It did take some time for him to really get interesting, though. 

Jo Ah-ram as “Doctor Girlfriend” Jeon So-ra. I loved this character. I really enjoyed her relationships with both Jeong-suk and Jung-min.

Baek Joo-hee as “Doctor Bestie” Baek Mi-hee. A good example of how a good actor can make even a side character interesting. I especially liked the episode where she helped Yi-rang after she got in a fight. 

Park Joon-geum as “The Worst Mother-in-Law” Kwak Ae-sim. I really disliked this character. Which means she did a good job because that was exactly what I was supposed to feel.

Kim Mi-kyung as “The Best Omma” Oh Deok-rye. She’s played a role like this so many times and yet I never get tired of seeing her because she still keeps it from being boring or repetitive. A national treasure. 

Lee Seo-yeon as “The Good Daughter” Seo Yi-rang. She did a good job with the role she was given and had some great moments, but there were times when she disappeared in a scene. Pretty good overall though. 

So A-rin as “The Best Daughter” Choi Eun-seo. They played it like she was some kind of emotionally unstable child in the first few episodes, which was unfortunate because the character was actually one of the most interesting and honest characters in the show. And she was mistreated by everyone. 

The show was at its best when they let this actor loose, and I was really impressed by her performance. 

Everyone Else. The show did have a few good moments for its minor characters, but most of the time they weren’t memorable or doing anything important. 

TL; DR: 

This is a show made for people who like melodramas. If you’re able to turn off the nitpicking part of your brain and enjoy the ride, it’s pretty dang fun.
