Some random thoughts on each song.

Wicked Game

All the characters are going through pain at this point in the story. I like that the first opening number is about Lucifer and Chloe. Their love story is the beating heart of the show. Lucifer thinking he can't love but singing how much he wants to love and tell Chloe that negates what his mind thinks. Cinematography-wise I love it. The revolving camera around him playing the piano is perfect. Cross dissolves between Lucy and Chloe could have been super cheesy, but this was done really well.

Another One Bites the Dust

This is more of a fun one that's there for the cheeky humor of the show rather than the overall story.

The cinematography and choreography are once again top notch. The following scene of Lucifer talking to his dad, and God being cheeky (just like Lucifer) shows how they are similar.

Chloe also uses her fierce, protective side. Instead of being nervous and subservient to him, she tells it exactly like it is: tells God he was a bad father.

Every Breathe I Take

Helicopter parent in the case singing for half of it, Lucy singing about his overbearing yet neglectful father for the other half. This song shows how much parents and their parenting style effect us.

It leads to Lucifer trying to repair their relationship.

Bad to the Bone/No Scrubs

Maze is upset because she feels like she needs a soul to be a person - rejecting her demon side. Ella is dealing with her bad boy issues. Maze trying to force embrace her bad side by trying to get Ella to embrace hers. Talk about projecting issues.

Just The Two of Us

Amenadeil tells Linda that their son, while half angel, is still a normal human. He is disappointed but Linda is happy. The blocking showing their distance - emotionally. Linda starts singing, thinking her and Charlie will be going through this alone, and how they are both human. Amenadeil joins them and changes it to the three of us. This one song brought the family together. God also is watching and realizes how good of a father Amenadeil will be - the exact opposite of how he has been with his children.

In order to get to this sense of peace between them. Linda realizes that fathers should be there for their kid no matter what. (how true) and Amenadeil has a talk with Dan. Dan is having a hard time just learning who Lucy is, just meeting God, and finding out he slept with.

Hell

God's wife. He sings his own song as he's spiraling out of control. Afraid of God's vengeance and going to hell. While the song title is very straightforward it really shows the actors talent and the characters mindset. The lighting in this scene is superb.

Smile

Trixie sings this sad song about putting on a smile even though what you are feeling is the exact opposite. This shows how much Chloe is afraid of losing Lucifer but it also has another parent-child story. Trixie is aware of her mother's feelings, kids are observant.

I Dreamed A Dream

This is the last song and parallels the first of the episode. Lucifer's first song is about love and how he wants to love Chloe but blames his father for not being able to. This one is to his father about Chloe and his love for her. This is the first time God sings back. He has been an observer during all the musical numbers until here. He has been trying to repair his relationship with both Lucifer and Amenadeil during the nonmusical parts but now he is showing his inner heart in the song. And it leads to the a breakthrough. God telling Lucifer that he understands Lucifer. All the light he bears, how he knows Lucifer thinks God can fix him, but saying that he can't do that, he can't fix him.

And while they are both crying, hearts bared, that he, God, can't control his powers anymore.

This episode not only showcased the talent of the actors but really brought the heart in focus up front.

Lucifer is a show that is entirely about family and love and this episode embraces that theme. Especially the father-son relationship. Several characters are going through their own personal issues and the songs brought them out and the scenes in between helped them fix or at least attempt to fix these issues.

Lucifer always has pretty cinematography and the move to Netflix upped the ante, the move gave them the time and money to make the show better and this episode (and the noir one from earlier this season) really showcased it. From the storytelling, cinematography, to choreography, this episode brought it.

So: Hot Take (warning: spoilers for Lucifer)

I don’t like how they handled Cain/Pierce. There was a whole plot point about “he’s not actually as evil as he’s made out to be”, and the they make him evil!

This is my own opinion, but you wanna know what I would have done (I’m going to write it anyway)?

I would have made a minor romance between Lucifer and Cain/Pierce (with Deckerstar as endgame), and had it be a whole conflict/learning experience for Lucifer when they succeed at killing him. Then, Lucifer and Chloe start trying to get back to where they were, and work through it together.

No Chloe x Pierce, NO Charlotte dying (that one really got me), and we get to explore Lucifer’s bisexuality. Obviously there are some plot holes, but I’m really just spitballing.

hi! i know it's not in your fandoms but do you think you could do headcanons for regressor Lucifer Morningstar (from the netflix/fox show Lucifer)? obviously okay if you can't or don't want to of course :) Hope you have a great day/night!

hi!! it’s been a couple of years since i’ve seen the show, so I’m sorry if these are a bit lacking, but here’s what i could come up with!!

-Lucifer doesn’t really have a word for his regressing, it’s more so something that just happens

-he doesn’t talk about it. he’s the king of hell, after all, people can’t know that he likes fuzzy pajamas and children’s toys

-Amenadiel is his first caregiver. he’s always seen Lucifer as the unruly little brother, so it’s no surprise that he figures it out first

-he spends a lot of time making sure lil Lucifer doesn’t get into too much trouble

-Lucifer loves getting into trouble. big Lucifer is practically a saint compared to the menace that regressed!Lucifer is

-that’s how Chloe gets roped into being a caregiver as well

-and how Ella and Dan end up as babysitters

-Lucifer just kind of collects babysitters tbh

-Ella doesn’t really know what’s going on. she just sees Lucifer acting a bit different and decides to roll with it

-they have lots of fun together!! there’s not as much mischief as Lucifer would like, but he’s happy being babysat by her

-Dan is just the epitome of a Tired Dad™️

-that poor man

-he’s not even a full-on caregiver but he’s so tired

-(does Lucifer act up around Dan bc he thinks it’s funny? yes ofc)

-Lucifer and Trixie are best‼️ friends‼️

-they paint each others nails and make friendship bracelets and give each other glitter makeovers and play games together!!! they’re besties!!!

-Maze and Lucifer get up to so much trouble together

-while Lucifer and Trixie are cutesy best friends, Lucifer and Maze are chaos best friends

-it’s even more chaotic when Maze is also regressed

-at the end of they day they both end up sleeping for like 12 hours because they’re both so tired from running around and causing trouble

-Lucifer has a little collection of stuffies he likes to cuddle with, most of which were given to him by Chloe

I know I'm in the minority and the show ended 2 years ago, but I've gotta get my Lucifer thoughts out somehow.

(Spoilers below)

So I finished the show and I expected to be disappointed based on what I was seeing of the internet's reaction to the ending... but i was pleasantly surprised to discover that I loved the ending. To quote Jeremy Strong, i thought it made sense dramaturgically. It was emotional, beautiful, and written with love to the original myth, the show's narrative arc, and the fans.

Like literally everyone got a happy ending, the show stayed true to its therapy concept and character arcs and growth, Lucifer and Amenadiel both learn from their father's mistakes and make different choices, Chloe is Amenagod's consultant and lives her human life feeling fulfilled, and still a Deckerstar happy ending! That's incredibly difficult to wrap up so much character development and the series as a whole in a "happy ending" way while also staying true to the integrity of the art.

The years Chloe and Lucifer spend physically apart (but still emotionally together) echo the myth of Hades and Persephone, staying true to the eternal love story with the bittersweet yearning and the reunion. What's a few decades when you're looking at eternity? It's as Rory said, that time is a blip in their existence. After the time loop is resolved, the whole family can visit and be together again. We get cake & eat it too!

There were some things I have critique for, of course. Amenadiel discovering racism again and his investigations felt out of place on their own; but I can justify this arc to myself for a few reasons: 1) it echoes the journey both Amenadiel and Lucifer take realizing that the entire system is flawed and how they want to change things if they had the power/authority to do so 2) there's a social responsibility I'm sure the showrunners felt about a police procedural show, given how we know these shows affect perceptions of police and in fact are used as propaganda that affects the public's perception of the current (and past and still happening now post-show...) events. It makes sense that the writers and actors would want to comment on this while also being quite hopeful in aligning with the show's themes about change and improvement. The system is terribly flawed, but there's still hope because we can change things and confront the injustice. 3) Amenadiel can't solve systemic racism for humanity because we need to do it ourselves. Amenagod fixing this would be the cheap way out narratively and also pessimistic in its messaging that IRL we can't do anything without the divine stepping in and undoing our mistakes. 4) Chloe wouldn't be happy being only Mrs. G, wife and mother. She is the Detective and both she and Lucifer realize that this part of her identity is integral; neither of them want her to have to sacrifice this. By being Amenagod's consultant and continuing her career as lieutenant, Chloe still has her independence and own identity outside of being Lucifer's partner. She's able to live a fulfilling human life without commuting back and forth from earth to heaven/hell.

Another critism is that all of the main characters were romantically paired up by the series end, when that doesn't have to be the ideal ending for someone at all. It sucks that we had to make sure Ella finally got a good boyfriend, as an example, especially when her arc confronting her own darkness and refinding her faith felt much more important and emotionally poignant in my opinion. But I can also see how this choice was probably made to support the fans and give favorite characters a happy ending, rather than only appealing to the Deckerstar fans.

I don't know, I guess I'm just so surprised that it seems (from reddit at least) that people hated the ending so much as to compare it to GOT - when David Benioff and D.B. Weiss clearly wanted their own show to be over and done without caring about the narrative arc at all - when it just seems so apparent to me that Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson clearly cared deeply about their show and wanted to give an ending that fit narratively/had integrity as a story and also was a love letter to the fans who'd saved the show to begin with.

Finished Netflix's Lucifer yesterday. While I technically know that the point of the entire show is to teach celestials about humans and bring them closer, I can't get over how powerless all of them were at the end. How Amenadiel didn't get to spend Linda's life with her, being a dad to Charlie except on special occasions, and how Lucifer was forced into abandoning his family. So much for being human, right? Would Rory be necessarily fated to turn into the devil junior if she didn't feel the anger of not having a father? They spent half a decade fighting with all fours to stay on earth, and then just left. It was full of pain and tears and yet it all ended up in the trash. Chloe and Linda's remaining decades on earth are nothing compared to the afterlife, yet they spent 6 seasons fighting for every second in LA. Kind of feels tossed away. After all, they could take a page out of humans' everyday life. An 8h workday, or custody agreements when it comes to kids. Yes, I know that running a purgatory probably shouldn't be an 8h workday though. Or being a god, for that matter (but they did divide and conquer). I feel like I'm oversimplifying this, and reading into theories and fics will definitely prove me wrong. I can smell it.
