Today I went on an unhinged rant about a moment in the Chinese Novel Reverend Insanity.
It was in the comment section of a meme about how Dong Fan Chang Fan convinced his clan that killing them and his son to create a new body to revive in was ok… by mentioning how Ren Zu killed his daughter in the Legends of Ren Zu. (Ren Zu didn’t even kill his daughter, he just left her behind in the ordinary abyss and spent a long time regretting it and tried super hard to meet her again)
In reaction to that meme, I started ranting about a scene in volume 2 which I’ve read almost a year ago but somehow didn’t forget it:
Bro remember how some senior in the Tie clan tried to encourage Tie Rou Nan after she saw her clan mates get wiped out by FY? He said she should cheer up because those Gu Masters died gloriously in battle, and since Verdant Great Sun in the Legends of Ren Zu died by bathing in too much glory of the light from the immemorial era, this shows that glory is worth dying for.
The whole moral of that story is to don’t get too far ahead of yourself like Verdant Great Sun did, he ignored all the warnings about the light of glory and paid the price with his life. It’s inspired by the story of Icarus who literally flew too close to the Sun. Verdant Great Sun is an example of what not to do. How the fuck did that senile old fuck completely miss the point and see a circle.
The Righteous faction have negative reading comprehension. Someone with 0 reading comprehension would at least take it literally and think that the story is telling everyone that flying in the light of glory will get you killed if you’re not careful. Righteous cultivators manage to delve into the negatives by thinking that the story is telling you to bathe in the light of glory and die.
No wonder they have to cultivate Heaven Path, these dumbasses can’t even get ordinary attainment in the Human path. (And that’s why Spectral Soul is my goat)

year in progress: january
january was rough, ngl. as usual I have taken on too many responsibilities in addition to work and I really felt it towards the end of this month. really really hoping things will settle down after two particular side projects are done, and to that end I finished drafts of both things which I now need to edit and send out. trying, as much as possible, not to let my anxiety/guilt about being or feeling behind get in the way of, yknow, actually doing the things.
I also really felt the lack of in-person community I have out here. I've been here not quite three months, and I know these things take (a lot of) time, but a lot of the attempts I made to meet people were somewhat less than successful. (synagogue: no one is my age and everyone wants to talk about how rabidly pro-israel they are all the time! book club: rancid vibes! chinese club: first time was great but the second week was exclusively assholes! meetup dinners: relentlessly heteronormative) I'm celebrating the fact that I gave these things a try, though, and I will give them all a few more chances before I reevaluate.
work-wise, I am mostly manufacturing my own stress. I continue to be amazed with how chill my coworkers are (at least in my department) and how...not-evil management is. part of it is the shift to nonprofit from corporate, but that's definitely not the only thing. I can see myself being at this job a long time if I can just figure out how to live here (just that). having a car will make that easier, but I made zero progress saving for that this month because of stupid external circumstances that are hopefully resolved.
some good things this month:
watched (and rewatched, lol) the bear, which is such excellent catharsis and chicago nostalgia
started a couch-to-barbell program and went to the bouldering gym several times. getting closer to my pre-move climbing levels (moving from v2s to v3s)
got approval and funding to go to my field's big conference
wrote a fair amount, including work on a WIP I've had since december 2022
cooked some delicious new stuff!
made plans to take an actual, real vacation in march
rediscovered some great albums that have been my soundtrack of late: ezra furman's perpetual motion people, sufjan steven's illinois, cheekface's emphatically no., the mountain goats' getting into knives, and vampire weekend's contra

Goat Spiritual Meaning
In spiritual contexts, goats often embody a range of symbolic meanings. Their association with various deities and spiritual concepts highlights their significant role in human understanding of the natural and supernatural worlds.
Symbol Of Independence And Freedom
Goats are often seen as symbols of independence and freedom due to their ability to navigate rugged terrains and their sometimes solitary nature. Spiritually, this translates into a representation of personal autonomy and the courage to forge one’s own path. In many spiritual traditions, goats are admired for their self-reliance and resilience, encouraging individuals to embrace their inner strength and independence.
Representation Of Curiosity And Exploration
Goats are known for their inquisitive nature, often seen climbing to great heights and exploring their surroundings with keen interest. Spiritually, this curiosity symbolizes the pursuit of knowledge and the quest for personal growth. In various spiritual practices, goats are viewed as messengers guiding individuals towards new experiences and discoveries, urging them to seek out new opportunities and broaden their horizons.
Emblem Of Sacrifice And Transformation
In some spiritual traditions, goats are associated with sacrifice and transformation. This symbolism stems from ancient rituals where goats were sacrificed to appease deities or to signify personal transformation. In this context, the goat represents the idea of letting go of old patterns and embracing change as a pathway to spiritual growth and enlightenment.
Goat Symbolism (In Different Countries)
Goats hold diverse symbolic meanings across various cultures and countries. Their significance can vary widely, reflecting local beliefs and customs.
In Ancient Greece
In ancient Greece, goats were linked to the god Pan, who was often depicted with the legs and horns of a goat. Pan was associated with nature, fertility, and rustic music. The goat symbolized his wild, untamed aspects and was considered a sign of vitality and the natural world. Additionally, the Greek mythological figure of the Satyr, which combines human and goat features, represented mischief and a connection to nature’s primal forces.
In Egypt
In ancient Egypt, the goat was associated with the god Khnum, a deity of creation and fertility. Khnum was often depicted with the head of a ram, a close relative of the goat, and was believed to mold humans from clay. In this context, the goat symbolized creation, fertility, and the nurturing aspects of life.
In Norse Mythology

Let's talk animal symbolism, shall we?
Tumblr media
Primo has an owl. Possibly an albino barn owl (looks like a mix of barn owl and snowy owl traits).
Owls symbolize wisdom, the ability to see things that are hidden, darkness, secrets, omens, death, and misfortune. In many cultures they are seen as symbols of death which brings about new beginnings with a higher understanding and evolved perspective. As the first of our modern Papas, Primo laid groundwork and then gracefully stepped down to Secondo. The only Papa to have retired willingly, so it seems.
In Celtic mythology, the owl was believed to be a guardian of honor and truth that would not tolerate deception. The owl was also thought to be a protector of sacred places, such as burial grounds and temples. Or, you know, ministries.
And, like many nocturnal creatures, owls are seen as mysterious and magical. They are completely silent on the wing, so you literally never see/hear them coming. In the middle ages, they were one of the animals that the Catholic church had a vendetta against, along with cats and goats. (Ever wonder how the Black Plague got so widespread? We'll touch on that later.)
I also find it interesting that the other three Papas all have land-dwelling mammals and Primo has an air-dwelling bird. Like he is the "eyes in the sky". Or, you know, Watcher In the Sky.
Tumblr media
Secondo has a dog; specifically a big dog with long cropped ears. Possibly a pit bull or pittie cross.
Dogs are service-oriented protectors. They symbolize loyalty, compassion, and truth. A dog serves as a reminder to remain loyal and truthful to yourself. They represent your instincts, whether you accept or reject new knowledge and your ability to give and receive love.
Ancient myths also reveal that dog symbolism can represent confusion about your loyalties, beliefs, and commitments. If a loyal dog is mistreated by its master, it may not remain loyal. In other words, when you acquire new knowledge which conflicts with a subconscious program, you do not know what to do.
The theme of dogs and hunting lay side-by-side, thus they can symbolize patience and perseverance. Dogs are, after all, the only animal that can keep up with a persistence hunter like a human. Useful traits for a Papa trying to take over the world on behalf of his "master".
Shamanic traditions often intertwine dogs with the coyote. So they can then also mean cunning and craftiness.
Tumblr media
Terzo has a cat. Specifically a black cat.
They symbolize cunning, aloofness, independence. Cat have long been thought to be able to see things that humans and even other animals cannot. Ghosts, auras, both good and evil spirits. places where the veil between the natural and the supernatural is thinnest.
The cat is also a good helper for those who need to find the courage to tackle lingering problems or concerns. The cat is known for being a great hunter using not just force, but a refined sense of timing in the moment of the attack. It seems to follow its prey and be able to patiently wait and position itself until it catches it.
The cat is emblematic of a lifestyle that combines times of fierce independence and moments that are more social and cuddly. Being inspired by the cat’s spirit, you may foster the balance between your personal need for freedom and time alone with the company of others and social activities.
Terzo was a wild card straight out the gate(s of Hell). Like a cat, he did what he wanted, when he wanted. And the Clergy did put up with him for a good long while until he was dragged off-stage. (A sneak attack! Just like you do when you have to take a cat to the vet. They ain't going quietly.)
Tumblr media
Copia has a rat. Seemingly a Brown Rat aka a common street rat.
In Chinese culture, rats are a symbol of wealth, wisdom, and prosperity. The rat is also the first animal in the 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle. Rats are also known for being clever and trainable (Seestor def trained our boy), and are often used in research. (Seestor, what were you doing?)
In many cultures, rats are seen as cunning tricksters, like the coyote, fox, and raven/crow. They are inquisitive and known for their ability to adapt. They can solve complex puzzles in order to reach their food. And they are extremely persistent, gnawing away at a problem until it is no longer a problem.
Remember what I said about the Black Plague? In those times, the Catholic Church decided to unofficially put out a kill-on-sight order for cats, yes, but other animals too. Cats, foxes, male goats, raven, crows, etc. Now, with only a very small number of cats, owls, foxes and other natural predators, the rats got bold. And rats more than likely had fleas, the real carriers of the plague. So, the rats (and their fleas) had a population explosion. They were everywhere. And those fleas had no problems with jumping onto a human for a little snack. Next thing you know, a third of Europe is dead.
Those rats, however, were not Brown Rats. They were Black Rats. Brown rats swept in from Asia and basically ousted the black rats. They were also way more resistant to the plague, so they did not spread it nearly as much as the black rats did. So... yay Brown Rats!
Copia is arguably the most affable and down to earth as his brothers. He is quite smart, good at solving problems, and is a fantastic showman. He's very creative and has a charmingly childish manner.
But he tends to put people off because of his somewhat awkward demeanor. People have the pre-conceived notion that Copia is not worthy of his title(s). Also, before it came out that Copia IS Nihil's son. They thought him a "rat" for nosing his way into power. Of the four animals here, the rat is the most maligned. Not nearly as many people will defend rats. Owls are cool, dogs are adorable, cats are beautiful. But rats?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“In European folklore of the medieval and early modern periods, familiars (strictly familiar spirits, as "familiar" also meant just "close friend" or companion… [they were] believed to be supernatural entities, interdimensional beings, or spiritual guardians that would protect or assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic, divination and spiritual insight.”

Happy Lunar New Year of the Dragon!
Dragon years often give rise to celebrations and festivals. These are the years for those who dream of great success or brilliant victories over adversity. Because of the dragon's essentially mythical nature, any gains amassed during this year may be fleeting and largely unreal. A lot of work awaits the person who prospers during these crazy years. It's one thing to get to the top, and quite another to stay there.
Rat. These years appeal to the rat's taste for panache and elegance. Dragons love rats. Maybe you'll be chosen to lead the parade.
Ox. Despite what looks like an easy and abundant harvest for the ox in the year of the dragon, it would be wise to keep the yoke hitched to the plough.
Tiger. Tigers can expect the best. Dragon years are powerful and spectacular. Tigers who embark on new projects or continue old ones will prosper under the dragon's influence.
Cat/Rabbit. Your past efforts will come to fruition during the Year of the Dragon, and they may even be recognized. Cats may ride discreetly on the victor's chariot, but will probably prefer to seek refuge from folly by the fireside.
Dragon. The storms have subsided. You have every right in the world to walk your remarkable self down the avenues of success. Make your plans carefully, think things through, then have the brass band attack and throw yourself a few flowers. The year is yours!
Snake. Snakes flourish in the dragon years. They love grandeur and pageantry. The dragon smiles down. The snake stands aside, happy to be a spectator.
Horse. Great years for horses. How could the gregarious horse resist so many joyous ceremonies? Heads up, step into the crowd. Your efforts will be recognized.
Goat/Sheep. Goats gain ground in dragon years. Joyful events appeal to the goat's wild imagination. The dragon invites you to join him in prosperity.
Monkey. The reigning dragon can always use the helping hand of the monkey. When the dragon is on top, so is the monkey. Make the most of it.
Rooster. Good weather for roosters throughout the Year of the Dragon. Dragons find roosters inventive and reasonable. If there are big decisions ahead, make them now.
Dog. The dragon's boisterous pretension may make you feel uncomfortable, and wonder why he's boasting. Although the dragon's speeches may seem insignificant, they may contain surprising news for you.
Pig/Boar. Year of the Dragon festivities can seem like much ado about nothing. Watch from a distance if you must, pig. But take a look. All this dragon pageantry isn't as empty as it looks.

I Ching reading for 2023 Chinese zodiac signs - Part 1: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, and Snake
I-Ching reading for 2023 Chinese zodiac signs - Part 1: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, and Snake
We are going to look at the fortune of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs in 2023, the year of the Rabbit. This time, we will use I-Ching as a divination tool, and interpret the related hexagram or Gua (Kua).
For each animal sign, we pick an I-Ching hexagram and find the changing line or transformation line to come up with the second hexagram. So each animal sign has (2) I-Ching hexagrams. The original Gua is more about the first half of the year, and the transformed hexagram is more about the second half of 2023.
Just like Tarot or any reading, use the information as reference only. Your attitude and action can change any outcome. We all have control of our future if we take the right action.
In this article, we focus on the first 6 Chinese zodiac signs: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, and Snake. In the next one, we will continue to the second half: Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
Zodiac sign of Rat in 2023
The first I-Ching hexagram is #27 Nourishment. This is directly related to eating and taking care of your body. You might have a lot of chances to eat special food. Maybe your job is related to the food industry. Food and diet become important this year. A proper diet can transform your health, and an imbalanced diet can bring health issues.
This can also mean the importance of your word or speech. It can be powerful to build good relationships, or it can be damaging if not careful.
Another extended meaning is the cultivation of your skill and talent. This is the year to learn and improve your professional skills, as well as take good care of your physical health. Don’t forget about nurturing relationships with your family and close friends.
The transformed hexagram is number 41 Diminishing. In the second half of the year, you might experience some reduction of resources.
This hexagram indicates the sacrifice of lower ranking to benefit higher ranking. If your sacrifice is for a big goal, it is still lucky. Your hard work will be rewarded later.
2. Zodiac sign of Ox in 2023
In 2023, your I-Ching hexagram is number 1 Heaven. This is a very auspicious Gua in I-Ching. It indicates fame, fortune, health, and positive energy.
All 6 lines are Yang lines. This is more favorable for males this year.
This is a good time to move forward toward your goals. It will be a great beginning for any project you start.
The transformed hexagram for Ox in 2023 is #13 Equality or Fellowship. This hexagram emphasizes fairness and equality. It is lucky to work with others or be part of a group.
Treat others with fairness and respect, and you can attract the right people to your group.
The focus is on building positive relationships with like-minded people. Together you have a stronger power to achieve better results.
3. The zodiac sign of Tiger in 2023
The I-Ching hexagram for Tiger in 2023 is number 11 Prosperity. As the name suggested, this is very auspicious. The Earth and Heaven form a harmonious relationship. It can bring abundance, success, peace, happiness, and stable growth.
It is even better if you can share your good fortune, and spread your happiness.
After the transformation, the new hexagram becomes number 36 Injured Brightness.
In the second half of 2023, the positive or bright energy could be hidden. The negative people are in power. This might cause some obstacles and confusion.
When the light is hidden and the energy is not in your favor, it is better to stay back to conserve your resources. Focus on increasing your ability by learning and accumulating experience. Avoid competition or fighting during this time.
4. Zodiac sign of Rabbit in 2023
The animal sign of the Rabbit has the I-Ching hexagram number 39 Difficulty in 2023. Since 2023 is the year of the Rabbit, you can feel the direct impact, increased stress, and uncertainty.
This hexagram could mean hardship, obstacles, and negative people. Everything is changing so fast that you might feel a little lost.
The advice of this hexagram is to seek the opinions of wise people. Or, follow the lead of other experts. The right leader can protect you and guide you in difficult times.
In the second half of the year, your hexagram is number 8 Alliance.
This hexagram is about the importance of alliances or friends. Your luck comes from connecting with other like-minded people and helping each other.
If you treat others with honesty and trust, you can overcome any issues and reach bigger goals.
5. Zodiac sign of Dragon in 2023
The I-Ching Gua for Dragon in 2023 is number 11 Prosperity. This is the same as the Tiger sign.
This hexagram shows a harmonious relationship between heaven and earth. It brings prosperity, happiness, success, fame, and peace.
This is a very auspicious time to work on your ambition and share good fortune with people around you.
The transformed hexagram for the second half of 2023 is number 26 Big Accumulation.
This is another auspicious Gua in general. Even though there might be some obstacles and delays in the beginning, your hard work and the right attitude will pay off soon.
You will see an increase in wealth, health, business success, and family happiness in the second half of 2023.
6. Zodiac sign of Snake in 2023
The I-Ching hexagram for snakes in 2023 is number 45 Uniting.
This focus is on gathering, meeting, and extracting. It is important to combine the strength of different people to bring good fortune.
It could mean a leader attracting the right followers, or the follower attracting the right mentor.
It is lucky to work with other people at this time and combine different talents.
In the second half of 2023, the new hexagram is number 12 Hindrance.
There might be some obstacles, setbacks, separations, or imbalanced energy.
Since the energy is not in your favor and negative people are in power, it is better to stay in the background to avoid trouble during this time. Be patient and wait for new opportunities in the future.

This is the infamous flower shirt Thomas put on in his store and, since the fandom is the fandom, everyone started to speculate about those flowers.
At first, I didn’t want to do it. They’re just flowers and other people already talked about them, so what could I possibly add to the conversation?
But while I was writing about Orange, I had to talk a moment about the orange flower. It was supposed to be a small parenthesis, just a couple of words about that.
But then I looked at the other flowers and what other people told/not told about them and how some didn’t find Patton’s flower... so here I am, adding my two cents to this theme.
You needed it? Probably not. Well, I’m writing it anyway.
So let’s take a closer look at those flowers and see each one in detail:

Roman: Red rose
Tumblr media
Should I really explain why it’s perfect for Roman? Red roses are the universal symbol of love. Basically in all cultures red roses symbolize passion, true love, romance and desire. Also, according to this website, even the shade has a meaning! In fact, the deeper the red shade is, the stronger is the passion.
And even the number of red roses has a meaning! In this case, we have only one single red rose and that "represents love at first sight, or if it’s coming from a long-term partner, they are saying “you are still the one”.”
You know what that made me think? About Thomas telling Roman “You’re my hero”. A perfect symbol that he was “still the one” for Thomas.

Orange: Lantana camara
Tumblr media
This is an incredibly peculiar flower.
Lantana Camara symbolizes severity and rigour. And this alone can be analyzed in all possible ways, but there are other interesting details about this plant I think it's worth mentioning.
Lantana is toxic for livestock, such as cattle, sheep, horses, dogs and goats. According to Wikipedia, previous studies suggested it could be toxic for humans too, especially the green unripe berries. However "other studies have found evidence which suggests that its fruit poses no risk to humans".
Lantana is a freaking invasive plant. In some areas, it's so predominant, to reduce biodiversity, because its presence "can significantly slow down the regeneration of forests, by preventing the growth of new trees". Also, as if this isn't enough, this plant can also produce toxic chemicals which inhibit other plant species.
Lantana has also a great adaptability, that helped it to be so invasive: it can live in a wide range of different environmental conditions, it can survive long periods without water, heck it's even resistant to fire. It's not a plant you can underestimate. Like Orange, I assume.
But Lantana isn't just an invasive plant. Lantana has always been used for medical purposes, because it showed good antimicrobial, fungicidal and insecticidal properties and its extract helps against respiratory infections and ulcers.
Also, since it doesn't have many pests or diseases, lantana became a common ornamental plant. It even attracts butterflies!
In other words: isn't that the perfect plant to symbolize the double nature of a dark side? It can be a threat, change the environment, destroy and even kill. But it can also be a medicine, something useful, something beautiful.
Whoever Orange is, Lantana camara tells us that, whithout a doubt, he’s a dark side.

Janus: Sunflower
Tumblr media
Do you think Janus isn't perfect enough as he is? Do you think there's not enough husband material in the snek?
Well, you’re wrong and the sunflower is here to prove it.
Sunflower symbolizes loyalty, adoration, longevity, vitality, worship. Now add this up to the sunflower’s behaviour and how it follows the sun... and you’ll get Janus. Janus literally acts like a sunflower: Thomas is his sun and everything Janus does is for him. His whole existence is centered around Thomas.
But we already knew that, because it's the same message that shone through his playlist. Everything about Janus tells us how much he adores Thomas, from his canonical behavior in the series, to his playlist, to this flower.
Oh, do you need another proof that this is flower is perfect for Janus? Some societies use sunflowers as religious symbols. Ah, some good ol' reference to religion: it’s like being in his playlist all over again.
And, of course, sunflowers are used for a variety of reasons, like cooking oils, skin care and so on. Even the flower says self care.
This man is perfect.

Remus: Green chrysanthemum
Tumblr media
Here's another interesting flower.
Chrysanthemum symbolizes death and it’s the typical flower used for funerals. And I thought this was its universal meaning. It was perfect for Remus just like that.
But then I found out that Europeans use chrysanthemums for funerals and to honor the dead. This flower actually has a whole lot of meanings, some completely different from this.
In China, for example, chrysanthemums are associated with wealth, prosperity and long life. Also they're symbols of new life and reincarnations, so they're the perfect gift for old people or newborns.
While in Japan chrysanthemums are symbols of power and royalty. And that's even more fitting for Remus, because he's a Duke, so he is royalty.
But chrysanthemum also symbolizes friendship - and not just "a friendship", but a meaningful one. It's a symbol of loyalty, devotion, romantic/platonic love and, in general, positive energy. It's a flower with an incredibly strong meaning, so it can't be given too lightly.
And this makes it even more perfect for Remus. It's a flower with a huge plurality of meanings, it's both associated with life and death, it's powerful and it's royalty.
Also, you can eat it. Isn't that the perfect Remus flower?
(On a side note: please notice how chrysanthemums and sunflowers are both associated with joy, loyalty and devotion. I would have never considered "joy" a common trait between Janus and Remus while loyalty and devotion... well, they both care about Thomas and his career and they both work for him despite not being accepted, so I can see why those are common traits.)

Patton: Nemophila
Tumblr media
Surprise surprise, this flower wasn't easy to find. I’ve never heard of it, so I had to search among endless lists of blue flowers, hoping to find one that would perfectly match the one on the shirt.
And that’s how I found nemophila.
First of all: nemophila is also known as "Baby Blue Eyes" and it's an extremely rare color to find in nature. It’s very famous in Japan, thanks to the Hitachi Seaside Park. Open this link: it’s a literal sea of blue and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Of course, it attracts people every year.
Nemophila represents prosperity, congratulations on success and victory. Not the first things you would associate with Patton, right?
Well, while I was searching more informations about this flower, I found out this website about the essence of Baby Blue Eyes and the passage I quoted down below has the exact same words you can find on that link:
With its pronounced affinity for water, the Baby Blue Eyes flower essences addresses qualities of tender sensitivity, innocence and trust associated one’s early childhood relationship to the father, or other significant masculine figures that are in some way disturbed.
Very often the father was absent, or there was a lack of support or genuine presence. The Baby Blue Eyes type attempts over time to cover this wound of vulnerability with a false “hardening,” such as emotional distancing, mistrust, cynicism or spiritual alienation. It is a flower that can be equally helpful for men or women, although it is especially needed for many men who struggle to become strong, by disowning their pain.
So nemophilia’s essence has qualities associated with childhood, to the father figure and attempts to “repress” and hide emotions.
That’s Patton. That’s him, period. The childhood-related emotions, that are linked to Patton’s longing for “a simpler time”. The mentions of a father figure - who migh be absent or showing lack of support (like, idk, suggesting you should die so your friends live?). And the attempt to “cover the vulnerability” doesn’t remind you anything? Like the Nostalgia episodes?
This flower is Patton.

Logan: Blue petunia
Tumblr media
I would like to say, from the bottom of my heart, a huge "FUCK YOU" to this flower, because I spent TWO DAYS searching all the blue flowers in the world and all possible variants, asking myself why this goddamn flower looked so familiar and why it was so hard to find. Blue isn't even a common color in nature, so why couldn't I find it?
I've learned more about blue flowers in these two days than in my entire life. I've searched among flowers I never saw before, like glandora diffusa, leschenaultia and omphalodes verna. I was so desperate to consider this flower a new species, with the petals of a bellflower and the corolla of a morning glory. I even found a goddamn chinese variant of the morning glory that was somehow similar but not that much and why, WHY this was so hard to find?!
And then, after two days and a lot more desperation, I remembered: my dear friend @reptilianwithscallions told me about a post they made, regarding this shirt and the flowers. Maybe they had some idea about Logan's flower?
Well, let's all thank my saviour and this post, because otherwise I would've kept searching until the end of my days.
Long story short, Logan's flower is a fucking blue petunia.
And it's a very peculiar choice, because petunias have multiple meanings, several of which can be contradictory.
In general, petunia symbolizes anger and resentment. It reminds someone that you're still angry or disappointed by their actions and you haven’t gotten over the things that caused these feelings.
Oh my, I didn't know we were back in Logan's playlist. It's basically what he kept expressing towards Thomas with his songs: that he was angry at Thomas for his decision, that he doesn't approve that Thomas hasn't "a real job" and so on. Petunia is a flower that screams passive-aggressive, so it's perfect for Logan.
But petunia's meaning deeply changes, depending on the color of the flower. And while petunia in general symbolizes anger, a blue petunia is a symbol of peacefulness, intimacy and deep trust, shared between two or more people. It's so wholesome, because the deep trust reminds me - again - of Logan's playlist and how it ended: no matter what, he and Thomas are always best friends.
Also, petunia flowers have even a secret meaning behind. Since they’re also gifted to new neighbors or to people who have just moved into a new home, they represent a perfect welcome and a way to express affection and kindness to others.
You’re lucky to be so wholesome, you tricky flower.

Virgil: Perennial Geranium
Tumblr media
Geranium is a confused flower.
Some of the other flowers have conflicted meanings, but not as much as this flower. These are the most common meanings I found:
Folly or Stupidity
Gentility and kind nature
Clever minds
Ingenuity
Melancholy
Perfect gift for a bride
You can gift it to someone with whom you have planned a meeting
You can gift it to someone with whom you haven't planned a meeting, just to make them feel welcomed
True Friendship
See? It’s confused.
Aside from jokes, this variety of meanings is due to its great diffusion: since geraniums grow everywhere, every culture gave them a different meaning. And sometimes these meanings depend on the situation too.
Awww, isn't it perfect for Virgil? He can be good and bad at the same time. Anxiety can be bad for Thomas and detrimental for his life, but it can also be the alarm Thomas needs. It depends on the situation.
And, just like geraniums in general symbolize positive emotions, happiness and friendship, so Virgil is in general a good guy. All he does is for Thomas' wellbeing, not against him.
And this is confirmed by the vast use of geranium's essential oil. It's one of the most popular and it has a ton of properties: anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant, decongestant, relaxing and so on. Just like our Virge boy can be incredibly useful under the right circumstances. (Did someone say "Flirting with social Anxiety"?)
Also, geraniums are simple, humble flowers that usually grow outside, but then we take them and make them part of our homes. Once again, it’s Virgil: he's an outsider, he's humble, he talks bad about himself - but Thomas and the others took him and made him part of the famILY anyway.

Thomas: Cherry blossom
Tumblr media
I searched this flower everywhere and the only one that looks like the one on the shirt is the cherry blossom. Why did Thomas make a cherry blossom with eight petals, when they all have five? I have no idea. Is this a different flower, maybe? Maybe, but I’m done: I've looked at enough flowers and I don’t have any strength left.
As you probably already know, cherry blossoms are extremely important in Japan. They're beautiful, they're everywhere and they're meaningful.
Why? Because cherry blossoms are considered the perfect metaphor for human existence. When they blossom it's a pink ocean, a party, people go to admire them - but they’re short lived, because in two weeks, the blossoms start to fall. It's just like human life: a small, rich, glorious parenthesis in the void. Something little and precious that ends soon.
But cherry blossoms also symbolize rebirth, optimism, hopes and dreams. When they bloom, it means springtime is coming and spring has always been associated with renewal.
That’s a very good choice for character Thomas. He’s basically a cherry blossom, the whole series is: something that reminds us how beautiful life is, how multi-faceted, how important. Just like Thomas' single being encompasses seven different sides of himself, so life presents a wide range of choices, of aspects, of flavours. All beautiful, all worthy of appreciation, no matter how different they can be from you and your experience.
And this becomes even more important, in relation to the passage of time and the transience of life. Because life is short and, after that, there won't be any more time to appreciate anything.
In addition to that, I would like to point out how the theme of passage of time is something we already saw in the series. And not just one time, but several. Since the first season, we have episodes all around the concept of growing up, growing old, not being a child anymore, becoming an adult. And the last Aside keeps going in this direction. It's clear this is a big theme and its connection with the cherry blossoms proves it.
But why is the flower so different on the shirt? Because Thomas wanted to mess up with us? Probably. Almost certainly. Once again, thank you Mr. Sanders for making me question everything.
The floor is (figuratively) yours now: if you have any other information, thoughts or opinions, feel free to share them.

Miraculous Ladybug Design RANT (Spoilers from future episodes Trailers and Clips)
I'm mad
We've been waiting since 2016 for this shit and this is what we get?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'mma be honest, as an artist, this season has infuriated me beyond belief. All the designs in this show were complete fire until season 4, why are they so ungodly now?
Polymouse and Purple Tigress' outfits are great but other than that the costumes are either passable or fugly.
Pigella was fine, ladybug suit upgrade was fine, Vesperia –as much as I hate the character for existing and how she looks more like a villain than a hero– was fine.
But this?
Sabrina, Ivan and Nate look SO BAD.
The only new design that's been revealed in the Penalteam clips that's even semi-good is Marc and even then, it just doesn't fit his style. It could be a similar situation to Juleka where he's trying to be more confident but even still, Juleka's Tiger suit fit her aesthetic.
And the fact that he got the chicken and not the goat kinda makes me mad.
Speaking of, wtf is going on with Nathaniel's horns? Why is his (and Ivan's) hair not changed in the slightest? Why does he look like that? The goat doesn't fit Nathaniel just as much as the chicken doesn't fit Marc, if not more so. I do get that they're based off of the Chinese Zodiac and they do fit they're personalities (I was born year of the ram, I know) but these styles just don't.
I don't think the designers even know these characters' personalities.
Why did the creators choose this? And the goat's weapon is a giant paintbrush? While the chicken's is a pen? Not a giant pen, just a regular one. Not only is it too on the nose for the characters but what kind of choice was that?! What is the pen gonna do?!! How is that gonna help in battle?
It's like the equivalent of giving Rena Rouge a camera for a weapon because it's journalist Alya.
And why is Ivan gray? The bull is blue! MAKE HIM BLUE! Why does Nathaniel's hero suit have a green tint. That's NOT needed!!!
Idk what weapon Ivan is getting but the rooster should've had boomerangs, the goat should've had a paintball gun and the bull needs a giant Harley-Quinn-like hammer.
And don't even get me started on Sabrina. They took her civilians clothes, made them brown, black & white, and gave her an ugly ass hat with floppy ears glued on. Her mask makes her look dead inside, oh my god.
I'm genuinely kinda disgusted with how low the bar has been set with these hero designs.
(EXHALE)
At the very least, I can only hope to God that Marc and Nate switch miraculous' at some point. I've only seen, like, one post/blog about the theory that they'll switch but even so, it doesn't excuse this atrocity. Even if these weren't meant to be their permanent looks, make them look –at the least– decent.
Other than that, nothing could ever vindicate the creators/designers for these looks.

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year, also called chunjie (春节) in China, and known as the Spring Festival, is the foremost holiday in China, and is celebrated by Chinese people all over the world. It is also known as the Lunar New Year, as it follows the lunar calendar. Asian countries like Vietnam, North Korea, and South Korea celebrate it as such. Although the weather is still quite cold when the festival is celebrated, it welcomes Spring, a season of planting, fresh starts, and new beginnings.
Chinese New Year begins on January 1 of the lunar calendar and lasts until the 15th, which is a full moon. Being that the celebration begins on the eve of the holiday, it is a sixteen-day celebration. On the last day, the first full moon of the lunar year, Chinese New Year ends, and the Lantern Festival is held. Ultimately, the Chinese New Year takes place sometime between January 21 and February 20 on the Gregorian Calendar. Years in China are associated with a zodiac animal. There is a twelve-year cycle of animals which includes, in order, the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig.
The holiday started out as a ceremonial day dedicated to praying to gods for a great planting and harvest season, at a time when China was largely an agrarian society. The holiday is also steeped in myth. One legend says that millennia ago a monster named Nian (年), which means "Year," showed up around New Year's Eve, attacking villagers and scaring them into hiding. But one boy showed courage and fought Nian off with firecrackers. It turned out Nian was afraid of loud noises, bright lights, and the color red. The next day, the villagers celebrated their survival with even more firecrackers.
Firecrackers have remained an important element of Chinese New Year. They are set off at midnight to scare away monsters—just like in the legend—and to dispel bad luck. They are set off again in the morning to welcome the new year and bring good luck. Bright lights and the color red, both of which were said to scare Nian, have remained with the holiday. Bright fireworks are set off, and red clothes and decorations are a part of celebrations. As fireworks and firecrackers are being set off, fake money is burned to honor deceased relatives, with the hope it will bring good fortune to them in the afterlife.
Above all, Chinese New Year is a family reunion, with the first five days being dedicated to spending time with family in the home. Adult children and younger generations travel to the homes of their parents in what is known as the Spring Migration, or chunyun (春运), which is the largest migration in the world. A family dinner is held on the eve of Chinese New Year. For most, dumplings are the main course. They are also eaten for breakfast on the morning of and are supposed to be eaten on every day of the festival, although they often aren't. Dumplings are most prevalent in northern China, while spring rolls are favorites of the south. Tangyuan, a dessert, is frequently eaten during the holiday, as is nian gao, a rice cake, and fa gao, a cross between sponge cakes and muffins. Wine, such as tusu wine, is the most common drink with meals.
Chinese New Year is a national holiday in China, where many stores are closed—most for the first five days, and some for the whole fifteen days. It is during the previous month when "New Year's products," known as nian huo (年货)—including gifts, clothes, snacks, and cooking supplies—are to be purchased. Washing isn't allowed today, and no sweeping or throwing out of garbage can be done until the fifth day so that the good luck of the new year isn't washed away. Cleaning is done shortly before the day, to get rid of bad luck and make room for the good. Besides cleaning, other taboos during Chinese New Year include using sharp objects, cutting hair, arguing, swearing, speaking words deemed unlucky (like "death" and "sickness"), and breaking things.
Homes are decorated red for the day, with red lanterns hung, real or fake chili peppers strings strung, and red paper pasted onto doors and windows. New clothing—usually red in color—is worn, representing luck and a fresh start. Along with the exchanging of gifts, children are given red envelopes—also called red packets or red pockets—that contain money. This practice is for transferring wealth from older generations to younger generations. Although, red envelopes are also exchanged between friends, bosses and employees, and co-workers. With a mythical and rich history, longstanding traditions, and widespread observance, Chinese New Year is one of the world's most important holidays, and we celebrate its start today!
How to Observe Chinese New Year
There are numerous ways the day could be observed:
Travel to the home of your parents or others from an older generation. Or, if you are older, host your adult children.
Light off firecrackers and other fireworks. While doing so, you could also burn fake money to honor your deceased relatives.
Wear red clothes. It's even better if they are brand new.
Decorate your house red. Put up red lanterns or strings of chili peppers, and paste red paper on your doors and windows.
Eat meals consisting of Chinese dumplings and spring rolls, tangyuan, nian gao, and fa goa, and have drinks like tusu wine.
Give out gifts, including red envelopes filled with money.
Refrain from sweeping, washing, and taking out the garbage (hopefully you did those things yesterday!), and from using sharp objects, cutting hair, arguing, swearing, speaking words deemed unlucky, and breaking things.
