So remembered an animatic that said every Ladybug holder was destined to abandon their Black Cat and they'd never see each other again. So I quickly threw together a set of curses for all the Chinese Box.
Ladybug - They are destined to always die alone with their goals unaccomplished
Black Cat - They are fated to always be abandoned by the person they hold closest
Fox - They are fated to always destroy the person they love most
Turtle - When it counts most they won’t be able to protect those they hold most dear
Bee - They are fated to drive others away at their most vulnerable
Butterfly - They are fated to have their good intentions twisted sour
Peacock - They are fated to put their faith and love into the wrong person and destroy themselves
Snake - At the end of things, they will always end up alone
Dragon - They are fated to never have the strength they most need
Bunny - They are destined to see the worst fates of their friends repeat over and over again with no chance to save them
Tiger - They are destined to always squeeze too tight and break those they love
Pig - Their kindness and desire to help will be their downfall
Mouse - They are fated to feel the weight of every task and eventually be crushed by it
Ox - They are cursed to be destroyed by their own growing doubt
Horse - They are fated to always be a moment too slow and be ruined by it
Monkey - Their happiness will come at the cost of the misery of others
Goat - They will be consumed by their passion and desires
Dog - They will devote their lives to a goal and only in their last moments realize they were wrong
Rooster - The people they hold closest will be unreachable
My rough idea is that the Miraculous of the Chinese Miracle Box are so powerful that their magic naturally backlashes onto the user in the form of a curse. So if someone wears a Miraculous for too long, they will be doomed to the curse even if they take it off.

I’m sure I’m shouting into the void with this question since I don’t really have that many followers, but is anyone aware of a “theme” between the secondary Miraculous jewels in the main box (Fox, Turtle, Bee, Peacock, Butterfly)? Because they seem like rather random selections to me, especially when the rest of the box has explicit ties to Chinese concepts (Yin & Yang, Chinese zodiac). I’m not even close to an expert on Chinese culture, so if there is a connection, I’d love to be made aware of it, but right now I’m drawing a huge blank
Tumblr media
EDIT: some others were kind enough to give a few explanations in the comments and reblogs, so please check those out if you’re interested! :)

Hi Neil,
I hope this doesn't get buried in the ask box, but if it does, I'll still be glad I sent this, just to know this little lengthy slice of complement and thanks existed in your inbox is enough. I apologize for the length, I am pretty sure the grammar is in tatters...and probably just the general awkwardness in advance.
Frist of all, congratulations for Good Omens Season2, it's a roaring success even here in this...I don't know, bottomless pit? I myself and some others fondly call it the PRC. The show didn't made pass the firewall officially, neither was Prime Video. People still managed to watch it eventually by VPNs, shared accounts and when times are desperate...sorry, piracy. Chinese fans, including myself, using every tool in the shed to try to fool Amazon™ and our goverment, just to watch this on Prime and try to help to manifest S3, is one hell of an experience. This kind of experience is pathetic, ridiculous....and somehow hilarious in a dark, gallows humor way, almost like some bad spy comedy, I just have to share it. Worth all the trouble by the way, the reward at the end of the back channel is...well, some divine comedy to say the very least. All in all, it's a brilliant show and a solid job well-done.
Then some of my personal gratitude. They say good art resonates with your soul, I now know this is just as true as matter and gravity. Since I know Good Omens certainly resonated with mine. I'll redact the typical "depression and anxiety reduced me to a husk, a shadow of my former self" story and get to the result for brevity's sake. I can't write anything meaningful while I know I took joy in writing, I can't finish reading anything longer than a brochure while I know I was such a bookworm in the past. Then I was compelled to get up in the middle of the night, wrote a full 5000 character long analysis after marathoned S2, and then write even more analyses in both Chinese and English. I picked up American Gods because I know I need more Neil Gaiman in my life and then impressed by myself for actually finishes it the second time 5 years later. I didn't know how exactly that happened through one watch of a TV show, but I know I am changed for the better. I grasped life again, and can start living again, somehow. The resonation just keeps on giving.
This is a quiet, gentle and romantic story, it is soothing, accepting, filled to the brim with love and kindness, and it makes me feel safe and accepted and loved in a way I never felt before. I thank you for it, and hope thart I may have the privlige to witness more of this miracle. Thank you Neil, Sir Terry Pratchett and the team for this miraculous book and this miraculous show.
谢谢。(I just had to say thanks with my mother tongue, it feels more earnest this way)
Thank you so much! I'm impressed by everything you and your countryfolk have gone through to watch it as legitimately as you could.

Accidentally deleted this post when I was trying to edit it but guess I can’t undo that.
———————————-
All characters in this AU are aged up and are adults
—————————————————————-
Anyway gonna take this chance to redo this post and upload her updated kwami swaps.
Behold the holy trinity of Kwami swaps part 1
1. Fox! Marinette: Huli Jing, she’s a trickster and her illusions are beautifully dangerous
2. Bee! Marinette: HoneyBee: She’s hella sweet but you don’t wanna piss her off because her sting can hurt
3. Turtle! Marinette: Chelona Jade: Graceful, strong, and powerful she is the protector.
4. Black Cat! Marinette: Lady Noire: Pent up Destruction can be dangerous especially for a rule follower who’s been stuck being perfect
5. Mouse! Marinette: Multimouse: She may be small but she can give you quite a scare when she divides and conquers.
6. Peacock! Marinette: Bleu Celine: A Goddess in human flesh her Sentimonster’s seem like a dream but beware for they are not all they seem.
7. Butterfly! Marinette: Titania: Light as a butterfly, become her champion be blessed by her gift.
—————————————————————————————————
These kwami swaps are definitely going to appear in Timey Wimey soon, we’re getting really close to Marinette’s reveal. I’ll also be posting the other half of this which the Chinese zodiac part of the Miracle Box, yep that’s right my girl is pulling a Kwamibuster on the corrupted hero’s but with a twist. Anywho, updated their designs and was just trying to edit the post but accidentally deleted it so whoops.
So cleaned up their designs and thought might as well post more.
The main seven Miraculouses are still my favorite

My most crack of crack person head cannon is that Shang Qinghua. The great Airplane shooting towards the side. Is a Cuban Chinese man. 🇨🇺🇨🇳
His mom was Cuban and his Dad was Chinese. In his first like. In his second his mom was Chinese and his dad was Cuban. He doesn’t know English but knows Spanish. The biggest reason he’s not outed as a fucking transmigrator early on because of his mumbling is that a lot of it is in Spanish. The entirety of the Who’s your daddy? Airplane monologue is in Spanish but he says the last line in Chinese.
In my head Shang Qinghua, Su Xiyan, and Binghe are the only characters with curly hair. AAAAAAND because the system fills with Plot holes I believe that Biological. Shang Qinghua is Su Xiyan brother through their father. Not being raised together. Kinda like Shang Qinghua’s Father Secret family. (This circles back stay with me). She gives birth to Luo Binghe who is picked up by the old washer woman.
WHO IS Shang Qinghua’s Mother. And because of her Ex Husband with curly hair teaching her new cultural foods she later teaches both her sons this food. Shang Qinghua and later Luo Binghe. and so know NO ONE CAN MAKE A CUBANO OR PERNI LIKE SHANG QINGUA AND LUO BINGHE!! They can make fucking CUBAN FOOD!! It’s also why these two canonically too the average svsss civilian got the head disciple position because of their ability to cook.
Shang Qinghua is a great cook on the level of Luo Binghe because they have the same teacher and I REFUSE. To believe otherwise.
- Tell me you don’t see this vision. Luo Binghe coming to pick up his Shizun after he has a meeting with Mobei Jun’s rat. Your Shizun walks out with a little Box of fucking Pan con Lechón that’s the name your Mother use to call it at least. You haven’t seen anybody now or since that can cook that food. First you get sad and are about to cry because another man cooked for Shizun. Then your mind goes too how is the fastest way I kill the rat without upsetting Shizun. And only then do you pause. IS THAT FUCKING PAN CON LECHÓN!!
- Also Mobei Jun knowing a surprising amount of Spanish just not when it’s spoken very quickly. Well he knows Shang Qinghua’s broken Spanderin. So he knows quite a bit. But like also not a miracle worker if Shang Qinghua talks any faster then normal he cannot understand a thing.
If you want more I have more please god I need to talk to someone about this please!!

I have notice that you are giving the kwamis different and more uniques personalities. How you imagened their unique emotions and how they react with the holders?
For sure, there are very few instances where the Zodiac Kwami get to show their individualism except for Sass or when they briefly interact with their new holders, so I really grabbed on to any little bit I could see and held tight.
Mullo - In the story of the Chinese Zodiac, the Rat rides the Ox and jumps off at the last minute in order to arrive first, so I thought it'd make sense for Mullo to be mischievous - also because Marinette uses it first for some cheeky misdirection. I got lucky that Mullo turned out to be a bit of a prankster when "Mega Leech" came out.
Stompp - As one of the Leftover 4, Stompp didn't get a lot of expression when they were shown in "PenalTeam", but I kinda ended up working with how calm they were. The way they addressed Chloe not knowing the kwamis names gave her a Disapproving Mother vibe, so I went with them being a nurturer. I picture them wanting to watch over their holder, particularly children ones, and watch them grow into full grown Oxes.
Roarr - So this one was easy cuz they've been very consistent in the show, and since the kwamis default to loud and bratty when they're in Mob Mode (ie, when all the kwamis act in sync instead of in line with their personalities), Roarr was simply a too rambunctious child. An extrovert to the extreme. Their name is very appropriate.
Fluff - This one is pretty established in canon, so I guess I'll just extend my headcanon. Fluff is easily confused and babbles a lot, and I think it's because they're being constantly bombarded with information from so many timelines. Existence is a prison and Fluff just comes across as dumb because all their brain power is overheating from a massive influx of information, so they have nothing else to offer in the Present.
Longg - "Ikari Gozen" makes them out to be a Long Winded Old Man/Woman (depending on the dub lol), but aside from them being pretty polite later, they don't hold on to it. I am. Longg is old as shit and just wants these damn kids to hear out their long ass stories, but they just don't know how to edit because it's been forever since they've been out of the box (a nod to how Dragons are now "mythical"). They don't know how to talk to the youngins anymore.
Sass - Okay, c'mon, we all know Sass. Sass is the only one we know definitively. They're the leader and being level headed and calm is the thing that distinguishes him from the rest. He is mildly cursed like Fluff to recall every remade time line, remembering what happened the other times that needed a second chance, but it's less of a burden than it is for Fluff.
Kaalki - I opted to lean in to her being a Diva, obviously thanks to her attitude in "Startrain". You'd think that'd clash with Max, so the struggle was more about making them work together despite that, so I also gave her a fascination with innovation. She's not very technologically literate, but she's interested in what humans have been able to do, especially when it comes to exploration. But in the end, she's still pretty vain lol.
Ziggy - since they were very upset at how mean Chloe was in "Miracle Queen" as opposed to angry like Stompp and Roarr, I felt Ziggy was probably younger and a bit sensitive. I also leaned into some goat traits, having them eat paper and headbutt Nathaniel.
Xuppu - Xuppu can easily become very annoying, especially in "Destruction" where they're trying to be helpful, but uhhhh...they aren't. So I just stuck with how they were portrayed in their canon debut episode. Like Roarr, Xuppu is very much like A Child, so even in Mob Mode they feel in character - getting into stuff and making a mess.
Orikko - I made them very patient, which you gotta be when your powers are bullshit and you constantly have to give a tutorial on how they work. They could talk all day with their holder trying to find loopholes.
Barkk - So they have two standout moments where they're allowed individuality - in "Furious Fu" and "Risk". In the former, they are stubbornly staying behind to guard the house and the Miracle Box, and in the latter, they're super excited at getting a new holder and getting to "play". So both a guard dog and a puppy. I met in the middle where they DO really want to play, but also want everyone to be as excited as them which takes a little coaxing. Like an Extrovery adopting Introverts.
Daizzi - They're just very sweet. Almost just like Rose but soft spoken. They feel very much but like to focus on the things they like, no matter how simple they are.

One thing I’ve always been confused about is how akuma actually work. In stormy weather they are treated like a horror movie trope, able to stop an elevator, cause lights to flicker and squeeze thru the doors to get to their victim. Aurora sees it coming and is terrified of it.
There’s a few other episodes where people see the akuma and try to avoid it but nothing on that level. Most of the time it seems like no one notices them and it just quietly possesses any item it touches
Then there are also times where the akuma can be trapped like in Sabrina’s suit case and it can’t get out or possess anything.
It also seems like they can get anywhere they want fairly quickly, but s5 adds them teleporting via the horse for some reason? Like travel time was never an issue before.
How would you treat the akuma in your version?
Also while on the rant, why does everyone know they are called Akuma? In the Paris special it seems they are called Komiko… so wouldn’t Tiki and Plagg assume they were still called that? Why do they have a unique name for the evil version and why are they Japanese words for the Chinese miracle box?
Akumas are whatever the story needs them to be for the current episode. There are very few clear limits or logic to them. The only thing that stays consistent is that the akuma possesses an object, gets released once the object is broken (though what that means can change), and that the ladybug of the day needs to purify the released akuma.
Those basic elements aren't actually bad and, as I've previously mentioned, I'm not too judgmental about how OP the butterfly's power is. Does it raise a lot of question like, "why can't you use this to heal your wife?" Yes! But this is a formula show where every episode has to have a fight, so I'm willing to give them some grace and accept that the butterfly is only OP because that's how the fights stay interesting. In a more serious show, the butterfly would be heavily nerfed.
There are still things that I'm critical of, though! Things canon never should have done, so let's focus on that.
1. Akumatized objects should function like a miraculous. It has to be on you to transform you. You drop it, you detransform. None of this hiding it somewhere BS. Could even lead to cool plots like someone picking up a seemingly innocent item and BAM akuma trap!
2. The butterflies should be magical constructs. None of this needing a real butterfly nonsense. What even is that? What do you do if you don't have a butterfly on you? Can you use any butterfly? I have questions...
3. There should not be a different word for a good akuma as that also raises a lot of question. Just have the power be what it is and let the good/bad element come from how the power is used.
4. Make clear rules around where the butterflies can go, how possession works, and how powers are assigned. I'm okay with the butterflies being able to touch things without possessing them or even being able to be trapped, but when that happens, the butterfly holder should be able to dismiss them and try again. Also, when the akuma goes out of range, it should dissipate. It shouldn't be able to go rouge like we saw in Startrain when Gabriel lost the akuma because it went to London, but Max's mom still got akumatized:
Gabriel: So, that's why I lost touch with my akuma! It's too far out of range. Nathalie: There's another problem. Adrien's class is on the train, and your son is on the passenger list! Gabriel: He's up in space! And there's nothing I can do.
This is so clearly done for plot and not because of logical world building. Of course, the show undoes this in season five where Intuition has Gabriel akumatize a spaceship in an episode that's a direct followup to the events of Startrain re Max's mom, so this is basically inexcusable:
Monarch: How fortunate that an artificial intelligence can suffer so much. (corrupts a butterfly into a Megakuma) Voyage, my Megakuma! (creates a portal, teleporting his Megakuma to space to akumatize A.D.A. in her core) Bugfighter. I am Monarch. The only reason Cosmobug wants to help you is so humans can test you again and again, even if it means losing more pilots.
5. I would personally make the magical construct butterflies invisible because they move so slowly that it does seem like something people should be able to avoid. We even see that happen when the show wants to go there with things like Marinette running away from one. That just raises too many questions about why people aren't always on the lookout for these things. Between that and the akumas getting trapped in other episodes, the fact that anyone gets possessed seems hard to believe.
All of these changes would means that you have to scrap a few story ideas, but that's just how good lore works. It limits you just like gravity limits you. It's how worlds feel real.
Why are they Japanese words for the Chinese miracle box?
Why is the Chinese miracle box guarded by Tibetan monks? Why are the two most powerful miraculous in the box - the only ones we see for most of season one - based on western lore? Why does Kagami wander around in a Japanese school girl outfit even though she lives in France while her mom sticks to highly traditional clothing instead of business suits? It's because these writers seem to think that Asian things are just a cool aesthetic that can be thrown into a story to make it look/feel cool with no real thought of deeper meanings or cultural origin.
As always, I will remind you am not part of these cultures nor have I studied them extensively, so it's always possible that there's something that I missed and canon is somehow fine, but I've yet to see anyone make that argument. In fact, the more I learn, the more I judge canon and feel deeply uncomfortable with the way various Asian cultures have been represented.

This is something that's been on my mind for a bit, but is there anything Marinette is technically bad at? Stammering around Adrien doesn't count, and the only thing I can think of is Frozer, where Marinette needed Luka's help to skate.
She's an expert gamer, apparently an amazing baker, a fashion virtuoso, a mechanical engineer (her diary box and her sewing kit with the Miracle Box in it), a perfect leader, an incredible artist, the best Guardian, and God knows what else. She was even able to adapt to different miraculous powers, have little trouble fighting with new weapons, and just acquire new skills in a snap. Literally, during Kagami's debut episode, she was also able to adapt to fencing really easily.
The question is, are there any instances that at least prove me wrong? I hope so, because Marinette has always struck me as the kind of protagonist where they just slap on skill after skill as the plot requires, and my opinion on this show is already so low....
Well, she does struggle to speak Mandarin Chinese, so that's something.

Updated kwami designs of Plagg and Tikki for my miraculous ladybug rewrite on Ao3 and Wattpad (oh my god it's like 59 chapters long I'm going feral) It's got 239,874 words rn and idk if that actually makes it the longest thing I've ever written... If it is, idk if I should feel sad for myself or impressed lmao
I got my first hate comment focused on their designs a couple weeks ago and it was because I made all of them Chinese... They wanted racial representation but bro, worldbuilding, they're all from china. I made other miracle boxes. The north american one is various american indigenous races. Suck my toe lol.
The other complaints I get are that Dusuu is a boy in my fic. Idk what to say, he's my son now. Crybaby boy. Giving him forehead kisses. He's the Reiner to my Hajime Isayama, the Sukuna to my Gege Akutami.

According to what we're told, using a Miraculous for selfish reasons has serious consequences. And as I just found out, that aligns with the Daoist view on magic and demons (alongside so many influenced by Chinese culture, such as Japan): in a VERY abridged summary, magic is to use one's qi to force reality to bend to their will, and a selfish use is dark magic, that brings the user closer and closer to animals and demons (the latter of which are defined by the use of dark magic and abysmal self control), until they exist to satisfy only their ego and lust for power through the imbalance on their qi that they generated by using dark magic for so long.
It's perfect for the series, and it fits the Daoist theme of the Chinese Miracle Box and neatly explains both Gabriel's progressive fall into villainy (he progressively went more and more demonic) and why Felix was redeemed (his intentions being good and selfless the very act of using the Miraculous knocked sense into him)... And yet I know it's a complete accident, as they put the Miraculous Temple in Tibet and thus made the Order a MAHAYANA BUDDHIST organization.
For someone who looks closely to the lore like myself, it's infuriating.
I mean the problem there is genuinely just re; Gabe vs Felix in both had motivations that had one foot in the darkness and the other in a Hello Kitty rollerskate when it comes to selfish and good intentions.

1/ 8 Jewish Characters You Won’t Believe Are Real - #6 is straight out of a movie! Jewish history is wild—pirates, gangsters, boxers, explorers, and weirdos. Here are 8 larger-than-life Jewish characters you probably didn’t know about.👇Let’s dive in! A short thread 🧵
Tumblr media
2/ #1 on our list is the Jewish pirate who masterminded history's greatest heist. Moses Cohen Henriques was no ordinary pirate—he was a Sephardic Jew with a thirst for revenge against those who had expelled his family and community. Born in Portugal, Henriques fled to the Netherlands to escape the Inquisition. But escaping with his life wasn’t enough - he struck back at his oppressors in the most audacious way imaginable. In 1628, Henriques raided the Spanish Silver Fleet on the high seas, taking 11 million guilders’ worth of silver—enough to fund the Dutch war against Spain for years. And he didn’t stop there. Henriques turned Jamaica into a pirate haven and continued to lead daring raids on Spanish ships and settlements. Unlike most pirates, Henriques wasn’t just in it for the loot—it was sweet revenge against Spain’s brutal persecution of the Jews. 🏴‍☠️✨
Tumblr media
3/ #2 is the feisty “bodyguard” who also did magic tricks - and changed history! Morris "Two-Gun" Cohen was born in London and raised in Canada. Armed with street smarts and plucky ambition, he became the personal bodyguard to Sun Yat-sen, father of modern China. Cohen was known for always carrying two pistols (that’s how he got his nickname), but guns weren’t his only trick. He entertained soldiers and diplomats with sleight-of-hand magic tricks and a larger-than-life personality. Fluent in Yiddish, English, and Chinese, Cohen navigated war zones and death-defying encounters. From the mean streets of London’s East End to the revolutionary hangouts of China, Two-Gun Cohen’s story feels straight out of a Hollywood movie—except it’s all true. 🔫🎩🔫

4/ #3 was the Jewish kingpin of London’s underworld. His name was Jacob Colmore, but he was better known as "Jack Spot" – he wasn’t just a lone gangster, he ran London’s criminal underworld in the 1940s and 50s. Renowned for his charm, charisma, and ruthless tactics, Jack built a crime empire that dominated the UK capital. He masterminded daring robberies that made national headlines, including some famous jewel heists. But his reign wasn’t without drama—Jack’s rise to power was marked by infamous clashes with rivals, most notably a brutal knife fight on the streets of Soho that cemented his reputation as a fearsome toughie. 🗡️💎

5/ #4 is a strange one - the woman who became a Hasidic rebbe! Meet Hannah Rachel Verbermacher, remembered by history as The Maid of Ludmir.Born in 19th-century Ukraine, she is the only known female Hasidic “rebbe” in Jewish history. After experiencing a mystical moment near her father’s grave, she began teaching Torah and offering guidance to followers. Her fame soon spread, and she drew crowds of devoted Hasidim who saw her as a spiritual leader and miracle worker. Her success shocked the male Hasidic establishment. She was pressured to marry and abandon her leadership, and her influence soon declined. But The Maid of Ludmir remains a powerful, surprising, and diverting symbol of defiance, who broke boundaries in a rigid world. 🕯️✨
Tumblr media
6/ #5 - the Jewish boxing champ who redefined the sport. Daniel Mendoza wasn’t just a boxer—he was a trailblazer who revolutionized boxing in the 1790s. Even today, he’s known as the “father of modern boxing.” He introduced defensive techniques and strategy, transforming the brawling style of his era into a carefully calibrated science. Beyond the ring, Mendoza was a celebrated writer, and he wrote one of the first boxing manuals: The Art of Boxing. Mendoza’s influence also extended beyond sport—he used his fame to challenge antisemitism in England, proving that a Jewish man could embody physical strength, literary success, and successful social activism. From pugilist to pioneer, Mendoza’s legacy lives on. 🥊📖
Tumblr media
7/ #6 is a real strange one. David Reubeni appeared in Italy in 1524, claiming to be a prince from a lost Jewish kingdom. According to him, his brother Joseph ruled over the “lost tribes” of Gad, Reuben, and half of Manasseh, in a desert kingdom near Arabia. Reubeni claimed to be commander of their army. The crazy thing is – lots of people believed him! He told everyone he could get an audience with that he wanted to forge an alliance between his kingdom and European powers, and lead a Jewish army to reclaim the Holy Land. Reubeni’s exotic charisma won over popes, kings, and emperors, including Portugal’s King João III. But his schemes eventually unraveled when his ambitious partner, the self-proclaimed messiah Solomon Molcho, was executed. Reubeni was also arrested and he later died in prison. To this day, his true identity and motives remain shrouded in mystery. 🤔🕍
Tumblr media
8/ #7 is a fantastic story - the first person to explore the entire Amazon! Pedro Teixeira was a Marrano (secret Jew) from Lisbon who loved adventure and blazed trails across the globe in the 17th century. He is believed to be the first Jew to circumnavigate the globe. But his most remarkable achievement was becoming the first person to make a continuous journey up the Amazon River, charting uncharted territories and paving the way for future exploration. Teixeira’s expedition provided invaluable knowledge about the Amazon’s geography, wildlife, and indigenous cultures. Despite the risks of being a secret Jew under constant threat of the Inquisition, Teixeira’s daring ventures left a legacy that cemented his place in exploration history. 🌍
Tumblr media
9/ And finally, #8 - the Jewish strongman Siegmund "Zishe" Breitbart. Known as the “Iron King,” Breitbart was a Jewish circus strongman who dazzled audiences across Europe and America in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. He could bend iron bars, pull wagons with his teeth, and lift horses on his shoulders. A blacksmith by trade, Breitbart turned his physical strength into a legendary act. His fame grew even more when he combined his incredible strength with Jewish pride, often performing in front of shocked crowds while draped in a tallit! Breitbart became a symbol of Jewish resilience at a time of rising antisemitism, proving that Jews weren’t just Talmud scholars and businessmen—they could also be superheroes! 🏋️‍♂️✨

Expanded Miraculous Changes to Canon Miraculous
So with this post, it sent me down a little rabbit hole just thinking about Chinese Miraculous and how they're set up, and this want to just, try and make them work. Make them make sense.
As one of the big major issues for Miraculous is that, they just exist. And that's it. Only thing we truly know is that they, for sure, are meant to be used for good, and were used to help humanity.
But we don't have anything on why. Why are certain Miraculous grouped together? Why are Ladybug and Cat yin-yang? Why are the 5 specifically based on Wu Xing? Why are the Seven grouped together? Why are the Zodiac grouped together? Did they come before or did they inspire the Legend of the Zodiac Race? What is the role of all Miraculous? What do these groups do that's different from each other?
We just don't have these answers.
So the idea behind this post is to just, delve into plausible lore and given some idea. Some of which will just work off what I've thought about before.
The Zodiac
Tumblr media
The Zodiac I think would've best served working off individual growth. Tying them to virtues could be great as there are a lot of virtues out there, but there's also a lot that are similar in meaning. And it can work off the Zodiac tied to personality traits and certain animals embody certain virtues, like Dog can be tied to Loyalty, Rooster to Honesty, Pig to Wisdom, Ox to Determination, Goat to Creativity, ect..
It can nicely add to what Zodiac should go to who, who needs to learn these virtues.
The Bagua
Tumblr media
Since The Shanghai Special brought up the Prodigious tied to Bagua, which is apart of Taoism and tied to Wu Xing and yin-yang, and it was a prior concept plan for Miraculous; Bagua did feel fitting to be Miraculous and apart of the Chinese Miracle Box. It does expand the numbers, bumping the 19 to 27/28, but there is also solid background to work off of that can make it plausible to exist. Additionally, there are a few animals that should exist as Miraculous when tied to China that have yet to appear (like Bear, Crane, Deer, Lion, Mantis, and Eagle).
Core idea is that these Miraculous would bring forth what Bagua represents, covering what people may want or what they need.
Tumblr media
Bear represents family, ancestry, and foundation. It comes to assist those who feel isolated.
Fish is tied to wealth, prosperity, and opportunity. Coming to those who are in need of financial aid.
Songbird is tied to reputation, expression, and fame. Coming to those who desire to be known or to change perspective.
Crane is tied to romantic love, union, and kinship; seeking to be the matchmaker and to help those desire love find love.
Deer is tied to creativity, inspiration, and projects; to help boost productivity, find inspiration, and inspire creation (it does technically stand for children and the future, but it's not easy to do a Miraculous power related to that).
Eagle is tied to travel, community, and guidance. Working off those in need of freedom, connection, or a change of pace.
Lion is tied to purpose, change, and ambition; helping those find their calling.
Mantis is tied to knowledge, learning, and wisdom; seeking to help those expand their perspective.
The maybe bonus, Snake (with Sass made to be a Cobra instead), the possible unofficial 9th member of the Bagua, reflecting balance, duality, vitality, and energy. Comes to those in need of harmony or energy. Partly incorporated Snake as it's one of those animals that has a lot to it and you could do a lot with, so might be nice to have more for it. It's a reason I dabble in the snake renling yesterday. And given the 9th slot of Bagua represents yin-yang, I thought of a possible additional unique role this could play...
The Seven
Tumblr media
The Seven I'm thinking should have the role tied to being THE defenders and preservers of humanity, fighting for the greater good and keeping balance. Typically, the focus is fighting for the greater good, and individual growth and needs aren't as prioritized (you can still learn and grow with them, it's just not a kwami priority in contrast to the Zodiac and Bagua kwamis).
And to play off yin-yang exists everywhere, and Wu Xing is heavily tied to the concept and goes through cycles, the idea is that, as a safeguard against the wish, who are the wish granting duo will alternate by lunar year, and all would have themes to work off recreating reality:
Ladybug and Cat are Creation and Destruction.
Butterfly and Bee are Chaos and Order.
Fox and Peafowl are Deception and Truth.
Turtle doesn't have a set counterpart in the Seven, and instead is meant to be the mediator and peacekeeper between conflicting pairs.
Potentially, Turtle could also be a key in undoing a wish, and if there's the unofficial 9th member of Bagua that is the Snake, that could be Turtle's counterpart and help undo a wish made.
Tumblr media
If this Snake was more Ouroborus themed (and Sass was more music based), given power ideas I had in mind for Turtle, these two could echo Time and Space. Which can be big enough concepts you can get them being split into two different groups, but you can also get them having the ability to undo a recreate reality.
Extra bonus that Turtle and Snake are a pair in Chinese mythology, commonly counted together in the Four Symbols.
Tumblr media
And both are tied to creation myths in China, which has another turtle and snake mentioned together with Nuwa (creator goddess who is a human headed snake) and Ao (world turtle); though their relation isn't so pleasant in contrast to the Black Turtle.
To those who stopped to read, thanks for reading. Hopes this helps give something more to Miraculous and the groups that exist/can exist. As I feel all Miraculous are lacking in individuality and it wouldn't hurt to have defined rolls or purpose to them.
