Solstheim Interlude 2: Raven Rock Elite
Tumblr media
More Solstheim elves, this time the fancy folk of Raven Rock.
I'm making an effort to give Solsthim elves a little more fitting variety in their outfits.
Adril Arano
Tumblr media
The first face that greets you in Raven Rock. I thought he should look a little more culturally Dunmeri.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cindiri Arano
Tumblr media
Adril's wife, wants to return to Blacklight (and who can blame her?) She wears some polished ebony discs inlaid with a gold Redoran scarab, a relic of the mine's years of abundance.
After much trial, I removed the bone belt from the Robes of the Lich and made it into a nice set of robes for her
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lleril Morvayn
Tumblr media
I gave Lleril a ebony and beetle wing diadem, seemed fitting for the ruler of Solstheim.
Tumblr media
Vindil Severin
Tumblr media
Gave Vendil a very tall ponytail look, as well as a hair doodad that pays homage to Mephala which feels appropriate for him lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tilisu Severin
Tumblr media
Tilisu now has some decorative markings and new hair and earrings.
Tumblr media
Mirri Severin
Tumblr media
Mirri got a new tattoo, earrings, and a small set of scars on her cheek.

for nearly the entire campaign, there's been a lot of discussion asserting "being reluctant to get rid of the gods entirely and being content with the current dynamic of Exandria vis-a-vis the gods is refusing to imagine that a better world is possible"
but I'm still, after all this time, constantly asking myself: IS the current general state of affairs and catastrophes of the post-Divergence because of... the gods? if a better world for Exandria is possible, DOES that start with the gods when every large-scale crisis in the past eight centuries (that at least I can think of) has had little-to-no relationship to the gods?
at what point do we take responsibility for ourselves?

How could they forget Ash Succotash?!
___
JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, a Catholic season of contemplation, preparation, sacrifice, and humility. If you go to Ash Wednesday Mass, you get ashes on your forehead in the shape of a cross. Catholics are supposed to fast (eat less than normal) and abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday. 2. In this cartoon, Emi tests Agnes on some made-up Ash Wednesday terminology. Not one answer in this whole thing is a real term, though some of them are probably things that exist. For example, priests must have some sort of ash stash for all those ashes, though they might not call it that. 3. At the end of the cartoon, Emi implies that she's taught Agnes that, if she eats meat on Ash Wednesday, she'll be whipped by "the ash lash." Emi's mother finally hears what the girls are talking about and yells at Emi for making stuff up.

I am so sick of fic writers making 10-year-olds talk like babies.
I work with children and have taken numerous classes on adolescent development. Here's some of what I learned because I might actually kill someone if I read another fic where an older child is essentially a four-year-old. (No hate to anyone in particular. Children are confusing.)
(Slight trigger warning for 13 & 14 year-olds. Puberty/sex mentioned)

I'm still thinking about Pokemon Horizons 89. I mean. Pokemon's anime just did something for the first time. Something it could never done before because it never could have been allowed to do that. Pokemon Horizons is allowed to be traumatizing.
Not that nothing traumatizing never happened to any Pokemon characters including ash before, or that death was a huge taboo bc the ghost type literally exists, but there is a BIG difference between an episode about grief due to losing a loved one to age or illness vs. a tragic accident in front of the protagonists eyes. Or vaguely alluded to neglect/trauma played for laughs. It's not about what happened so much as the impact of the event on the story going forward.
And before you say Ash has died, or that Lucario died, or Friede isn't dead, there's a big difference between the death of a character we just met, or that dies in backstory, or is brought to life right after (and also the movies just get a bit darker in general) than a character who has appeared in a majority of episodes so far and is close to the main cast. Pokemon just killed off a main supporting character. A member of the main cast. And not from something like old age, but a young healthy man. Now I don't think Friede is actually dead ofc. They would never.
But the characters do.
For a year. At least.
They're letting the characters marinate in that devastating loss.
And even if we the audience find out Friede is alive in a couple weeks, they still let his fate hang in the air for several weeks. And even if we the audience find out his fate, it will likely will still be some time yet before the characters do and their characters going forward are going to be informed by this trauma in a way that Ash never could be. Because Ash couldn't change. So anything bad that happened to him had to be something that couldn't directly, tangibly affect him going forward. Things that could be pushed into the background and ignored by the writers. The writers can't ignore Friede's death, he's too central to the plot, the kids growth up until this point and the seasons iconography. The plot is going to have to completely pivot around this event.
Like yes we are getting a Time Skip, and that is HUGE for Pokemon. But that Time Skip deeply tied to Friede's fate. The time skip is a whole year where the characters have been pulled away from the plot because of the loss of Friede, the 6 heroes, and the framing of the Rising Volt Tacklers as the villains by Spinel.
So it's kind of a big deal to me is that they just functionally killed 3 people (and a Charizard) in one episode. Two of these are definitely permanently dead. One of whom was a member of the main supporting cast. Again, its not that people (villains mostly) haven't occasionally died. The point isn't that they're dead per se, but that their absence has radically changed the direction of the story. They've traumatized those kids and there's no going back. "Roy forced to grow up", "Liko is depressed".
The kids post time skip will not be the same as before, and them witnessing their mentors supposed death is going to be the reason why. Like I don't think the show is suddenly going to be depressing either, that's where the year timeskip comes, in so the loss is less raw. But still.
Friede isn't quite a main character but still they "killed" A MAIN CHARACTER OFF.
The irony of people stopping paying attention to the anime because Ash left, but Ash's departure opening the doors for the Pokemon anime to go wild is not lost on me.

Solstheim Interlude 1: The Elves of House Telvanni
Tumblr media
Since I have roughly the same amount of mainland elves left to do as there are on Solstheim, I'm going to make every other post about my Solstheim elf designs. Just for some variety!
Anyways, this is gonna be a long one, so I'm hiding the details under a cut.
Elynea Mothren
Tumblr media
I wasn't satisfied with her original hair, so here is an updated one.
Tumblr media
Neloth
Tumblr media
Lotsa little tweaks on my original design, maybe not that noticeable to anyone but me.
I did also come up with two additional hairstyle options, though: bald and Morrowind (bald without a beard.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talvas Fathryon
Tumblr media
I wanted to make him look young (to match his voice.)
I really like how his ears and nose turned out
Tumblr media
Also, I wanted to give him some distinctly Dunmeri robes (with myconic prosthetic), instead of College of Winterhold castoffs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Varona Nelas
Tumblr media
Varona got a few more Morrowind-y cultural touches, as well as some custom robes
Tumblr media
I've also made some robe for her replacement, though I'm not sure how to make him wear them at the moment.
Ulves Romoran
Tumblr media
Tel Mithryn's resident chef (once you snap him out of his trance.) I gave him some proper chef's clothing as well as a scarf.)
Ildari Sarothril
Tumblr media
I haven't decided whether or not to cover all named, unique enemies, but I do like making spooky magic baddies (not that I blame Ildari one bit.)

i’ve only been into dragon age for like. checks calendar. two and a half months. and the amount that my opinion on veilguard has changed after playing the other games is crazy
#the dialogue is sooooo baaaad it’s SO bad. i think of the bellara recruitment mission first mostly bc it’s so early but#‘we’re looking for an ancient elven artifact!’ cool what is it. ‘this building… no… it can’t be here!’ why. ‘if that’s here… that means…’#GIRL WHAT DOES IT MEAN. ‘the artifact… it can’t be here!’ YOU JUST SAID IT HAS TO BE. ‘it must be that artifact!’ WHAT IS THE ARTIFACT.#‘it’s an archive spirit!’ WHAT DOES IT DO. ‘you’ll see!’ girl if it’s so important that means you know what it does. why won’t you tell me#it feels like i’m watching an episode of naruto where they spend half the episode explaining things you already know like you’re 8 years old#but also at the same time they explain literally fucking nothing#and that is media made for children. this is allegedly a game for adults. with sex in it. apparently#obviously i’m paraphrasing that scene but. there’s a complete lack of specificity in a way that doesn’t feel intriguing it just feels like#they didn’t care. ‘elven artifact’ ‘red lyrium relic’ ‘blood magic ritual’ ‘antaam and venatori bad’ can you explain any of it to me please#almost no codex entries from scholarly sources actually examining any of these things. i’m so curious about the veil jumpers’ work#but no dice there. just ‘ancient elven ruins.’ i found the logs of venatori notes in the western approach and hissing wastes in inquisition#fascinating. reading about their practices and motivations was really interesting. in veilguard? where you are in minrathous? nothing#<- also that about the veil jumpers is based on memory but i don’t remember much from the codex being particularly interesting. i’ll look at#it again though i might be wrong. but anyway#like 80% of the game is a macguffin#and if i get into the shadow dragons and how literally nothing about them makes any sense#i need to play further into v’s run. i don’t really want to. but it’s for research#i should put ash and fel on the backburner for now since v is my research run. but they’re both past the dragons. and v isn’t#ragghfgfhghhgffggghHgGGHFGDHHGH#eliasposts#veilguard critical#but really only in the tags lol

I keeping seeing that poll where 60% voted Julian as the Blackthorn sibling who will have the most negative reaction to Dru dating Ash 😐 this is like that stupid trope in Kitty fics where Julian loses his mind at Kit for the crime of dating his younger brother.... none of you understand Julian Blackthorn I fear. heaven forbid his younger siblings date because he's their Dad and the Protector and he'll point a gun at you or something because that's what Protective Dads do.
also tbh I think people are just putting way too much weight on the Blackthorns not liking Ash purely based off of who his parents happen to be. like yeah Sebastian and the Seelie Queen are evil and manipulative and there probably will be characters who judge Ash & his character off of that. I don't think the family that was torn apart because of preconceived notions of who their parents are and now they are Just Like Them are going to be the one doing that however. and as far as guys their siblings bring home Mark fucked that so astronomically badly already 😭 the bar was so in hell they all wanted Kieran dead back in the day like I think Ash will be okay as long as he doesn't nearly kill someone or something lmao.
