Hello! Welcome to the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Papa Louie!!

My name is Miles (@sunsetcorvid ) and I am here to offer a tournament of the best Papa Louie character!!!

There are 204 characters in my google doc. A majority of which have flipdeck cards. This post may update before the tournament date with more characters without flipdeck cards. I will randomize pairs and put them against one another. All characters range from each Papa Louie game, and I mean each one.

Only one will remain.

There will not be a bracket, as there are many characters and it stresses me out trying to make something as big as that. So, it will be a surprise on which ones are paired up.

I made this for fun and I hope yall have fun, too!!

The Bleach Timeline

alright so I'mma drop some science on y'all

the Academy is ~2100 years old as of 2001. Renji, Kira, and Momo, were in the 2066th Class, graduating ~1956/1957. it's also repeatedly stated to be 2000 years old in CFYOW. Bleach takes place mostly in 2001, so that'd be 2101/2100 years as of then

when the Academy started running, Shinigami are already Shinigami, not Balancers, and Bankai are already Bankai, not Shinuchi, and we know this because Sasakibe has had Bankai for 2,000 years

QED the Gotei 13 already existed when the Academy was established, because you don't train new people for something that doesn't exist yet and won't exist for a thousand years as that just doesn't make any sense at all

for Shinigami to become Shinigami and not Balancers, they probably had to gain zanpakutō, because before then they were only using Zankensoki

we can therefore assign some arbitrary dates to the creation of these things for illustrative purposes like the Gotei 13 was founded 2,500 years ago and the zanpakutō was invented 3,000 years ago

Yamamoto is talking about his last use of Bankai being in the distant past, and Shunsui is a kid. we straight up know Shunsui and Jūshirō are the first Captains out of the Academy because Yamamoto tells us:

so it doesn't make any sense at all that Yamamoto is saying this after the war with Lichtreich, because then he'd be missing Captains for centuries. no, Yamamoto is telling this story to Shunsui long before the war with Lichtreich, which we know from the Kaiser Gesang must have happened in 1004 AD, over 1,100 years after the Academy was established. and so we come to this:

Yhwach is visually recalling the Gotei 13 he fought, the individuals he personally saw

however Yhwach is verbally discussing the Gotei 13 as an institution

do you notice something? these two things are not explicitly correlated

if I told you "The U.S. Navy has always been tenacious and resourceful," and I said that while showing pictures of Commodore Matthew C. Perry, or Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, would that automatically mean Perry and Nimitz were around in 1775 and fought alongside John Paul Jones?

NO IT WOULD NOT

this neatly solves the "Original Gotei 13 Problem". maybe the OG Gotei 13 weren't around for 1,000 years, or even for 1,500 years or more. maybe the Gotei 13 that Yhwach fought were the originals, which would be confusing as to why they lasted so long when their successors did not

but maybe they weren't

Yhwach is not weighing in on that issue, he's just saying the Gotei 13 were always murderous bastards until the Lichtreich War

and think about it. Yhwach was conquering stuff for like, what, 200 years before that war? he's like maybe 300 years old when it happens or something? if he's born in 600 or 700 AD, why the hell would he care about stuff that happened before 100 BC in a completely different place? it'd be foreign ancient history to him

how many of you right now can tell me about how Qin Shi Huang unified the various warring states around him and created China in detail? okay, that was 2,200 years ago, maybe that's not fair. okay, how many of you can give me a detailed synopsis of the Mongol conquests?

do you see what I'm saying?

anyway the Gotei 13 was not founded 1,000 years ago because the Academy to staff the Gotei 13 already existed 2,000 years ago and Bankai already existed 2,000 years ago and Yamamoto tried to use his Bankai to do something or other only to make things worse and in the process he earned the epithet Shigekuni, 重國, "country-splitter" or "land-divider"

so hey if the Gotei 13 wasn't made to fight Yhwach and was made much earlier then why was it made? protip: it was Yamamoto's second attempt to handle whatever was going on at that time after his first solo try failed

what was that incident? I dunno. but all the evidence points to it having happened

we know from Narita and Matsubara in CFYOW that Kubo has a lot of supposedly interesting stories that he's never told, like how Yoruichi and Kisuke met. you should not presume that all events referenced in the series refer to other things you already know about, and that all events of importance have been covered (Tokinada and the Tsunayashiro being shoehorned into the narrative is also yet more proof of this)

In the early morning hours of the 12th, Wo-Chien is awoken by the sound of a video message coming to his Rotom Phone.

He goes wide-eyed upon answering it. Peseta was on the other end, looking quite serious. Wo doesn't get a word in before Peseta asks him if he forgot the date. The snail looks over at the calendar on the wall, then back at the shiny Gholdengo after seeing the 14th circled, with 'BLUEBERRY SCHOOL TRIP' scribbled on it.

He apologizes. Peseta reassures him, telling him not to worry. As long as he was back in Paldea before the academy meeting, there wouldn't be a problem.

Wo promises to be back at the academy, but makes no promises about being back on time. Peseta sighs and rubs the back of their head for a few seconds, before responding with a bit more reassurance. The video call ends as Wo looks at the calendar again.

Later, Wo tells the others as they spend another day at the Snow Festival.

Over some snowy festival snacks and hot coco, they discuss what they want to do. Eventually they settle on going back down to the guest house in the evening to prepare for the trip back to Paldea.

Wo and Oki take some time to go down to Carmine and Kieran's grandparents' house to get info about Blueberry, while Ogerpon, Kiki and Mortcha play several rounds of 'Ogre Oustin'.

After a few more hours at the festival, they return to the guest house. There, they plan out what to do next. A few hours later, they settle on leaving early so that everyone makes it back on time.

In the early hours of the next morning, the five mons awaken. To Wo's surprise, Kiki and Mortcha decide to go with him and his family, saying that they didn't want to be left behind. Wo gets a bit emotional as they begin their journey back to Paldea.

A lot of hours later, they make it to Paldea. Wo directs them to his shrine, where they decide to rest until they need to go to Mesagoza.

Meanwhile, in the Galar region...

The Inkays and Malamars that make up 'Team le Squid' get more info about how to get to Paldea.

After figuring out the precise location of the region, they begin to put together their 'final farewell' party.

Astrid and Urchin - two mature Inkays - talk about their wishes to evolve, and hope that going to Paldea would lead to them getting to do so.

The Malamars that have offspring - Winter, Zero, Iris & Kaiser, Casey & Marriott, Shiv & Neo - all discuss what they would do once they get to Paldea. Two of the pairings - Iris & Kaiser, and Casey & Marriott - hope to get hitched when they finish finding where they want to live.

The 'final farewell' party goes on late into the night, even if some decide to leave early to do things like rest or, in the case of Shiv & Neo, take care of their newly-hatched offspring.

When the time is right in the following morning, the big group of psychic squids remind themselves of the right direction to go in before taking off towards Paldea.

Wo, Oki, Ogerpon, Kiki and Mortcha get visited by other mons of 'Team Paldea' as they wait for Peseta to call them over to the academy.

Eventually, the call comes via video on Chester's Rotom Phone. After some details, everyone leaves Grasswither and begins making their way to Mesagoza. Wo leaves last, as he makes sure his shrine his properly secured before following them.

In Mesagoza, Peseta waits for them at the academy. They walk ahead of everyone until they get to the courtyard. Again, Wo is last as he and the other mons gather alongside the students and teachers to listen to Clavell's instructions.

what’s with all the nazi stuff?

I am fascinated with Wehrmacht and its Prussian military aristocracy, but I am uninterested in Nazism and disapprove it. One marshal who stands out in this respect is Fedor von Bock, who had been very close to Kaiser Wilhelm II his whole life, despite it pissed off Hitler. Ewald von Kleist treated people in the occupied Soviet zones with a lot of humanity. Later on in the war trial, Stalin pinned on him a crime called “alienation of the Soviet people from communist ideology” because he “treated the POWs too well”. Pretty hilarious if you think about it.

Many of the greatest innovative technics, including how to protect soldiers or conduct troops, came from humble background generals like Heinz Guderian and Erwin Rommel, who unfortunately fell victims for political struggles. I have mixed feelings for Doenitz for his technological genius and the cruelty of his strategies, but I believe Admiral Chester Nimitz of the United State navy defended him for solid reasons. Anyway, later on in the war Hitler distanced himself from the traditional military class (too many assassination attempts for this dictator’s taste), and used Walter Model heavily; it also resulted in his life being lost, in a way.

However, I do consider their blind devotion to the country, their out-dated sense of aristocratic aloofness and their inactivity during political turmoil and the SS bullshit as major moral weakness, some went as far as to consider Nazism "a chance to re-invent the crisis-ridden military class". Walter von Reichenau was an example. But this general died under suspicious circumstances. Hitler didn't like him too much, after all.

Team Sword Dances entry for Mission 4 part 3. It seems the mother Goodra was furious over some guildmembers attacking her many young and had begun to attack the town of radiance! Luckily the guilds were quick to act to take down the behemoth, despite her bringing in some stormy weather turning the terrain into a muddy mess. Bluey and Bastion did their best to help out with the Goomi and Sligoos but just weren't strong enough to take on the Goodra on their own. Luckily the other guilds had that covered especially a rather quick to cast moon blast, Sylveon! Yikes! good thing Bluey and Bastion weren't in the path of that devastating fairy move. New details emerge about N.S. mass shooting as calls for public inquiry grow louder

CTV News has learned the girlfriend of the perpetrator of Canada’s worst mass shooting ran to a resident’s home for help, emerging from the woods after escaping the gunman the night of Saturday, April 18.

Multiple sources tell CTV News the woman came to the resident’s home in Portapique, N.S., in the early-morning hours that Sunday. The resident then called 911.

That resident tells CTV News police officers surrounded the house, with their guns drawn, and the ensuing chaos put them “through hell.”

The resident didn’t want to be identified, but says the events of that night have left them so traumatized, they haven’t been able to return to their home since.

Several people who live on Portapique Beach Road and Orchard Beach Drive, where the gunman killed 13 residents, have told CTV News they believe a public inquiry is needed.

Author and journalist Paul Palango agrees. The Chester, N.S., resident has written three in-depth books examining the RCMP.

“Right from the outset, things didn’t go right,” says Palango.

He says he has been contacted by various sources in law enforcement who point to communication problems from the very start of the tragic events.

“They knew from the outset that the guy was in a police car,” Palango says. “The fake police cars were burning and the suspect’s house, so they [police] assumed he was still in there. But he’d gotten out.”

Palango says an inquiry could help determine why certain decisions were made by those in command, and why some actions were not taken.

“By the next morning, they didn’t have a secondary perimeter,” he adds. “They didn’t lock down any roads, they didn’t call Truro or Amherst municipal police.”

The gunman went on to kill nine other people during his rampage, claiming the lives of 22 people in total.

Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team confirms to CTV News that a resident of Portapique recently called to make a complaint over how police responded in the area the night of April 18. But, because the resident wasn’t injured, the complaint falls outside of SiRT’s mandate.

CTV News asked the Nova Scotia RCMP for an update on the investigation, but was told there would not be any new information released Friday or over the weekend.

Meanwhile, 33 professors and staff at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University have written an open letter to Nova Scotia’s premier, calling for a public inquiry.

“From the earliest days following these acts of violence it was clear that a public inquiry would be necessary in order to promote public confidence in the Nova Scotia legal system,” the letter states.

“The families of the victims, Nova Scotians, and Canadians deserve a transparent, impartial, and independent assessment of why and how this incident occurred,” it adds.

One of the signatories on the letter is Archie Kaiser, a law professor and expert in criminal procedural law.

“How could you not have an inquiry?” Kaiser asks. “It would just be unthinkable.”

On Thursday, Premier Stephen McNeil indicated Ottawa would have to take the lead on any examination of what happened, as the RCMP is governed by federal protocols.

But Kaiser dismisses that, saying the province has the authority to trigger a public inquiry under both the provincial Public Inquiries Act and the Fatality Investigations Act. Kaiser believes a review under the Public Inquiries Act would be more appropriate in this matter.

“I don’t understand the premier’s deflection of responsibility,” he adds. “I think he should commit immediately to an inquiry in principle, and I think after that, the federal government and the province of Nova Scotia can collaborate if there are areas of discreet federal interest."

Kaiser says government does not have to wait for the RCMP and SiRT investigations to be completed before beginning the inquiry process.

In a statement Friday the Department of Justice writes, in part: “This matter is complex and involves matters of both federal and provincial jurisdiction. We want to ensure that whatever mechanism is used, there is the necessary authority to consider all of the relevant issues.”

31 Days of Dead 2019: Project Wrap-Up

Hey Now Kids!

I have emerged after a much needed rest. I want to take the opportunity to personally express my thanks to all of you for following this year’s edition of the Unofficial 31 Days of Dead and for all of the messages and kind words that you have sent me. This was a pretty ambitious project that kept me busy right up until the final day, so I apologize for the delay or lack of response to some of your emails. It was a fun ride, and we covered a lot of ground. Here are some quick stats:

THANK YOU!! These projects are a big undertaking and there is no way I could do it all on my own. I want to take this opportunity to recognize two key people who helped out. First, a big thank you to Brian Levine who has been providing the artwork since I started doing these projects in 2010. Each year his artwork gets better. He obviously takes our tagline very seriously – “When they go high, we go higher.”
