McDonald’s Singapore is back with a trio of Cheesy Truffle Burgers. All three burgers featured melted cheddar and truffle cheese sauce while the all-new creation featuring crispy mozzarella sticks stacked between a savoury beef patty and fluffy buns. I wanted to buy it on the day it was launched but alas, mum cooked dinner so had to wait till the next day.

Bought the Cheesy Truffle Beef Deluxe Meal (S$9.90) but I changed the French fries to the mildly spiced Potato Pops (+S$1) and Coca-Cola to small Ice Green Tea (+S$0.80). The burger came with three types of cheese – crispy mozzarella sticks, melted cheddar, and truffle cheese sauce with a savoury beef patty between fluffy sesame seeds buns. Munching on the burger, I can detect the aroma of the truffle among the sweet, caramelised onions, enjoyed the texture of the crispy yet stringy mozzarella cheese and appreciated the juicy beef patty. Overall, I really liked cheese and truffle combination in this new burger.

As per the usual, I got mum the Filet-O-Fish Meal (S$5.50) with a medium French fries and a small Ice Green Tea (+S$0.80). Our fish burger comes with a miserable half slice of cheese. I want to know if Filet-O-Fish in other countries comes with one or half slice of cheese?

What were you doing before you logged on here? Being pissed as shit at my mom for snapping at me for...drum roll...asking a question. I was asking where the wrapping paper was because I still have a few more Christmas gifts, and she looked at me as if I told her something really offensive, then snapped away.
Like can you imagine being yelled at for asking "Hey where's that wrapping paper?" LMAO why did the universe have to assign me to such a psychopath mother? This is the life I've lived for 27 years and if anyone asks me why I'm mentally ill I'd need to point them toward instances such as this one hahahahahahahha it's also moments like this I wish I can take back the equivalent-to-$2,000 cash I gave her for Christmas HAHA
What was the last airline you flew on, and where were you going? PAL from Fukuoka back to Manila.
Which of your breakups was the hardest for you to get over? The second one with my only ex. It's so hard looking at photos of myself at the time - I had lost so much weight. Fortunately I've also lost most of my memories from the time and the only bit I remember is how much I binged Rhett & Link to feel better.
What did you have for dinner last night? We went to Salta in QC and by god do they know how to do Italian cuisine. We had cheesy spinach pizza, truffle tortelloni, pesto tortelloni, roast beef with truffle sauce, and chicken tenders. Loved each dish!
Do you write poetry? If so, what kind of poetry do you write? I'm terrible at poetry. I've dabbled in it but I know they're all bad and I kind of just go by my own flow and style since I really don't know how to craft a poem.
Have your parents traveled to any countries that you have not been to? My dad works overseas for a living and has been to WAY more countries and continents than I've ever been to.
Did you have acne when you were a teenager? I didn't. It only got delayed - because I'm dealing with all the acne crap now, in my late 20s.
What’s your favorite type of gemstone? Diamond.
Do you prefer sleeping in total darkness, or do you like to have a little bit of light? Total darkness.
Who was your favorite children’s book author when you were a kid? Judy Blume.
Would you rather take a class in fencing or archery? Archery. At least the sharp stuff isn't pointed at me, lol.
Has a significant other ever given you the silent treatment during a fight? Yes.
What is something you took for granted when you were younger? Time with my late grandfather.
Have you ever seen the movie Blue is the Warmest Colour? I tried starting it but ugh it's just so long I couldn't bother to finish it.
How many bathrooms does your house have? Two.
What was the last thing you borrowed from someone? My sister's pen and post-its.
What are your favorite condiments to put on a burger? Just mayonnaise.
Have you ever had a stalker? Not that I know of.
Would you rather work in an office setting or work from home? Home.

im going to bombard you with some random qs if thats ok!
what food do you think iterators and scugs would like if they existed irl?
tulip-anon🌷
Wow! Hi, you’re my first named anon that’s cool! It’s totally okay to spam me with questions, headcanons, positive confessions, OC lore dumps, fic recommendations, just whatever really!
Now, let me think of this a little! (I’ll do everyone I think, for fun~)
Moon - she’s giving me sushi and seafood vibes, but I also think Moon would like herbal teas and stuff too. I bet she’d also enjoy tanghulu (Chinese candied fruit on a stick, very popular in Korea too! My favourite kind is mandarin heheh). I feel like she’d like tuna sushi the most out of all her favourites though!
Pebbles - this guy gives me depressed microwave meal vibes, like sad overdone rustlers chicken burger. Okay but on a serious note Pebbles is a soup guy you can’t convince me otherwise. Give this man his broth! I bet he’d really enjoy a chicken soup with some crusty garlic bread.
NSH - edibles Nah, this man subsides off coffee alone! No milk, no sugar, just coffee. Also a fan of sour candies than make you almost cry. He’d also be the one guy to just make unholy food combinations at 3am, but if we just want to stay simple? Mac n cheese. Can’t go wrong with that!
Suns - spicy food!! They’re the kind to slurp down those super hot noodles that burn your mouth and hurt your tummy and make you cry except their spice tolerance is ELITE! People will be signing away their lives and they’re heaping in more hot sauce. Ramen enjoyer.
Wind - hmm, I dunno about Wind to be honest! Wind does give me simple meal vibes. Probably snacks on those protein bars that taste like cardboard but thinks they taste good. Has cereal for lunch every day and not even the nice kind. Flavourless and unseasoned ass food.
Innocence - cake, macarons, cookies, diabetes. This iterator has never even seen a vegetable.
Sliver - I think she’d enjoy pasta! Like creamy and cheesy pasta. There’s a place near me that does truffle cheesy spaghetti with mixed seafood. She’d like that!
Now for the slugcats, didn’t put that much thought into these just went off vibes 😅
Survivor - marshmallows and white chocolate!
Monk - eats whole lemons on purpose while maintains direct eye contact
Hunter - fried chicken, especially hot wings
Gourmand - Gourm enjoys all food as long as it’s made with love! But homemade bread is the big favourite here!
Artificer - steak. It’s either so overdone it’s charcoal or so raw it’s trying to run away. Depends on the vibes
Rivulet - cotton candy and menthol sweets so minty they burn
Spearmaster - protein shake enjoyer, really likes the shitty banana flavour
Saint - ginger cookies and chocolate chip ice cream
Enot/Inv - monster energy and chilli heatwave Doritos, the meal of gamers
Watcher - since we know little about this guy… untoasted white bread, salted. (I used to eat this… don’t ask)

𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🍔 Here’s the @bigfernand_uk Christmas burger for this year, and it’s joined the Christmas truffle hype! It’s a @hgwalter beef patty with Mont d’or cheese, and @artisan_de_la_truffe sauce. I went double, and I do actually recommend it for this burger. It’s full of cheese and truffle so the extra helping of meat balances it out a bit. If you love a cheesy burger then this is deffo for you! . . . . . #bigfernand #burger #burgers #cheeseburger #cheeseburgers #hamburger #hamburgers #beefburger #truffleburger #truffle #burgermania #doublecheeseburger #baconburger #baconcheeseburger #burgertime #burgerlife #burgerlove #burgerlover #burgerlovers #burgerporn #burgersofinstagram #burgernight #burgerday #burgerking #burgeraddict #burgerjoint #london #londonfood #londoneats #londonfoodblogger (at Big Fernand London) https://www.instagram.com/theburgerlist/p/CXlOpvbItqT/?utm_medium=tumblr

With the day off from work Sheila and I went out for happy hour. You know how I like to save money. Dinner at 3:00 PM tastes the same as dinner at 6:00 PM, but my wallet isn’t as light afterwards.
A bar and restaurant in Minneapolis has a happy hour special that looked good. It was only $10 (including fries!). It’s the Damn Gouda. Cheesy gouda cheddar-skirt burger with layers of cheese, 2 beef patties, garlic butter, pickles & red onion serviced with parmesan rosemary truffle crinkle fries. Cheese lover’s delight for sure.
Running skirts are ridiculous, but a gouda-cheddar skirt that’s been melted on a griddle and has really crunchy edges is amazing. Nearly-burned cheese is a favorite of mine.
We each enjoyed a cocktail too. A second one would have been nice but it was about 80 degrees in the bar area. Sweat dripped down my back. We didn’t order another round. The really nice thing about that was the check was pretty reasonable. That left me as happy as I would have been if I’d had another round of cocktails.
On the way home Sheila was busy on her phone, Facebook stalking our new neighbors, a young couple. With her detective background she is very, very good at this sort of investigating.
Ostensibly the purpose was to determine what beer the new neighbors like. Sheila wanted to drop off some cold ones as a housewarming gift.
“Oh my God!” she laughed at her screen.
“What did you find?” I asked nervously.
“Dec. 15, 2011. Jack ___. I’m going to hurt you. Stop talking to me.”
This didn’t sound funny to me. Considering his mother’s Facebook stalking skills, what creepy thing did my then 15-year-old son say online to someone who nearly a decade later would move in across the street from me?
Sheila texted Jack. “Mother, what are you doing?” he replied. Just the usual “research” on new neighbors.
Jack said it was all good-natured joking around. He and the wife of this neighbor couple had been hospital volunteers together back in high school.
Sheila and I walked over with beer and limes. Facebook had provided other helpful information, because Sheila discovered the wife likes Corona.
At the house Sheila had a 10-year-old picture of Jack. She asked the neighbor if she recognized who it was. The neighbor giggled. “Oh my God.” She explained, “Jack and I and another volunteer used to razz each other all the time. It was fun.” Whew! No need to worry if Jack comes back home for a visit.
The neighbors and some of their relatives were busy unpacking so we didn’t stay long. Everyone had a good laugh. Sheila got to pet Rubin the Bulldog puppy some more and didn’t even try to steal him.

🍔 Review № 457 ━ 📍 Bolinder Strands Krog ★★☆☆☆ • Bolinder Strand is a newly built area in Kallhäll, a short trip to the west of Stockholm, and in early 2020 Bolinder Strands Krog moved into the old factory building. Their menu contains several classic dishes, plus two beef burgers – one with regular cheese and one with truffle cheese. We ordered their The Skip Cheese Smashburger for 170 SEK (20 USD), which contained two chuck, brisket and flank steak patties and came served in a brioche bun with loads of organic burger cheddar, frillice lettuce, white onions and aioli, plus a small bowl of French fries and a dip. • The burger looked both big and squashed at the same time, seeing as Bolinder Strands Krog had decided to brand their top bun with their name. The result was that it had been pressed flat, making it look quite unappealing. The patties had been drenched in cheese, which at least made the burger look pretty decadent, but we noticed several problems with our burgers after just one bite. The major issue was that the beef didn’t taste very nice. the patties hardly had any crust and didn’t feel freshly prepared, and were both lukewarm and grey. The aioli was watery and didn’t taste of much either, and neither the lettuce or the onions added any crispy freshness, which was a pity seeing as we really could have done with some different textures. Interestingly enough we did enjoy the bread, seeing as it was nicely toasted on the inside and pretty soft and squishy, despite being manhandled. And the cheese was probably the highlight of our meal, and despite there being a bit too much of it we did like its flavour and concistency. The French fries had a nice crispy texture, but we found the dip to be a bit watery and it didn’t really leave any lasting impression. • We appreciate that Bolinder Strands Krog’s ambition to serve a cheesy and filling burger, but we really would have liked to have seen better handling of the ingredients. We hope that they make some improvements so that we can enjoy a nice restaurant burger there soon, but right now you’d do better choosing something else from their menu instead. ━ @bolinderstrandskrog (at Bolinder Strands Krog) https://www.instagram.com/p/COHlAdtFiRH/?igshid=2l07slg6szfu

I didn’t go for the fried chicken as I had prior warning from a colleague who had eaten it. Instead, I went for the Parmesan Truffle Burger Box (S$12.80) consisting of a burger, a piece of fried chicken, regular cheesy whipped potato, regular fries and a drink. When I bit into the burger there was no truffle aroma nor parmesan cheese taste. All I got was the good old Zinger Burger! Lucky for me, my camera had “eaten” first so now I have got proof to go complain to KFC.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The very next day after work, I approached one of the staff at the counter and showed her the pictures. I told her I had bought the Parmesan Truffle Burger Box armed with the receipt but it came with Zinger Burger inside. She looked at the pictures and told me Zinger is correct. I got a little annoyed at her reply, I know it’s a Zinger Burger except mine had no truffle or parmesan cheese in it. Luckily, another staff member stepped forward and let her know I had been given the wrong order. She took a freshly made burger off the shelf and passed it to me. Case closed.
Tumblr media
The Parmesan Truffle Burger is basically a Zinger Burger drizzled with truffle-infused cheese sauce and sprinkled with grated parmesan. Although I enjoyed the juicy fried chicken patty and the earthy flavour of the truffle, the powdered parmesan is overwhelmingly salty! But eaten with the buns and shredded lettuce, kind of balanced out the brininess a little bit, however, it is still salty. Now you know why I didn’t go for the fried chicken version as according to my colleague, she had to peel away the chicken skin just to make it edible. And here I was wondering if KFC even do quality testing before they released these products.

Bianca, of course, rolled a double want for the twins to join Luna at Robinswood Private, so the headmaster comes over again.
Tumblr media
Bianca burns the dinner (she’s furious), but I’m not sure what Luna did to piss everyone off.
Tumblr media
Bianca: Sir, wouldn’t you prefer to eat a bowl of *hard swallow* soup instead of that charred burger?
Bram: The rules stipulate I must eat what’s especially prepared for me.
Bianca: Crap.
Tumblr media
Bram: The mix of dry, charred beef and scorched bread is challenging, to say the least. But I cannot deny there is something holding it together that is still quite delectable.
Bianca: It’s aged Gruyère and truffle oil. Sir, I do apologise, I can prepare someth-
Bram: Nonsense! Ms Somerset, it’s still an inspired recipe. You sure know your cheese. You could write a thesis on cheese.
Jonah: A cheesis?
Bram: Oh, you’re in!

The Ultimate Guide to Instant Noodles
Tumblr media
A variety of instant noodles from different countries
How to mash-up, deconstruct, and altogether upgrade the versatile staple of dorm room dining
As a semi-professional noodle slurper and collector, I’ve eaten hundreds of noodles in my life, but I have a particular soft spot for one type, specifically: the instant kind. You know, those hard squiggly bricks of dried, fried noodles with accompanying seasoning packets that have long been the foundation of the American collegiate diet. Since the pandemic started, I’ve been showing off my impressive collection of instant noodles to my friends on FaceTime like a YouTube beauty guru flaunting their makeup stash.
I love instant noodles for many reasons: They have a nearly indefinite shelf life; they are an easy breakfast, snack, or — with the right bolstering — a full meal; and, they come in a panoply of shapes, textures, flavors, and colorful packaging styles. But while there is nothing wrong with eating instant noodles according to the instructions, it’s their versatility that’s made me a devoted fan. Here’s how to mash-up, deconstruct, and upgrade the dorm room staple.
1. Load up on protein
Yes, many instant noodles come with their own packets of dehydrated vegetable or meat flavoring, but they rarely provide much real taste and add zero in the way of texture. Supplementing your own additional proteins will do a lot to make your instant noodles more satisfying and nutrition-rich. Try simple items like ground meat, sausage, tofu, and leftover fried chicken — or my personal favorite ramen topping, pork char siu. Meat shortage got ya down? Just crack an egg. You can stir it right in to create an egg-drop soup effect, or poach the egg gently in the soup broth to enjoy breaking the creamy yolk.
Tumblr media
Chicken-flavored ramen with garlicky sautéed kale, roasted chicken legs, and carrots.
2. Go big with toppings
Going nuts with the add-ons at ramen restaurants can mean spending $30 on a bowl of noodles (toppings normally cost between $1 and $3 each.) But at home, you can have as many toppings as the inventory of your fridge’s produce drawer allows: scallions, corn, mushrooms, kale, you name it. Not sure about what to do with all those weird greens in your CSA farm box? Add them to your instant noodles! Fact: There is no such thing as a lousy topping for instant noodles.
3. Deconstruct everything
Each element of the instant noodle package is a multi-purpose cooking superstar. The seasoning packets add a pop to stir-fried vegetables. Broken into bits, the uncooked noodles are an excellent crunchy topping for a salad or even another non-instant pasta dish. Do yourself a favor and add some ramen seasoning to mac and cheese, or how about using those instant noodles to make buns for an at-home ramen burger?
4. Switch up the liquid
To deepen the character of the soup, try cooking the noodles in vegetable or chicken broth instead of plain water. There are plenty of wilder recipes out there, including this one I’m skeptical of that uses milk, but homemade stock is a safe jumping off point.
5. Mash-up different styles
Mixing different instant noodle styles and seasoning packets is a culinary art form in itself, and can have big payoff. Jjapaguri (also called ram-don), the famous dish from the Oscar-winning movie Parasite, is actually just a hybrid of two different kinds of instant noodles — Neoguri and Jjappaghetti — and has become one of Korea’s national dishes. The magic comes from the mixing of Neguri’s spicy seafood powder with Jjappaghetti’s savory black bean powder, which ignites a lethal umami bomb. But jjapaguri is just the start. Try mixing Neoguri and curry noodles to create an exuberant, spicy curry broth. Combining super spicy noodles with something cheesy is also 100 percent never a bad idea.

The Ones to Know
Here, then, are some of the best instant noodles to stock up on, categorized by whether or not they’re “brothy” (the noodle soup kind) or “saucy” (brothless noodles with a separate sauce).
BROTHY
MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodle If you love Penang curry, try adding this noodle to your cart. These wildly popular Malaysian instant noodles are considered some of the best in the world on this heavily opinionated ranking. Three whole flavor pouches — one of them is a paste — make for a deep, coconut-y taste and hearty portion size that you rarely get from instant noodles. Add toppings like fried tofu or prawns.
Neoguri, Spicy Seafood Udon Noodles Neoguri, a Korean word for raccoon dog (neither a raccoon nor a dog; discuss), has been my top choice for ramen since I started slurping noodles at the age of three. This beloved Korean instant noodle is known for two things: thick udon-like noodles and a spicy seafood broth with actual dried seafood. It’s fantastic with any fishy topping or add-ins.
Nongshim Shin Ramyun Noodle Soup Shin Ramyun might be the very first Korean instant noodle brand, as well as one of the easiest to find internationally: I still remember the exciting moment when I found Shin Ramyun in a random gas station in Alabama. It’s known for its spicy broth, and doubles as an excellent noodle for Korean ramen beginners. Top this with a slice of American cheese to tone down the spice and pump up the greatness.
Prima Taste Laksa Coconut Curry Lamian Noodles This Singaporean instant noodle inspired by traditional laksa has a paste sachet that can and should be used for stir-frying vegetables, too. The noodles are rounder and less wavy than others, and the white powder adds the signature creaminess.
Mama Noodles Thai cooking doesn’t shy away from acid, and neither do these Thai instant noodles, with just the right balance of acidic and salty flavors. The wavy noodles and the powdery seasonings make a great snack — though it may not be hearty enough to be a standalone meal. Beef it up with a hard-boiled egg and other vegetable toppings, like scallions.
Sapporo Ichiban Tokyo Chicken Momosan Ramen Think Japanese shoyu ramen, in instant form: salty, slightly smokey, and clean tasting. It’s great with plain old white-meat chicken breast — which is hard to say about anything, really.
Paldo Gomtang Oriental Style Noodles with Beef Soup Base Not all Korean instant noodles are spicy! This mild, creamy Korean noodle soup is inspired by gomtang, or beef bone broth. It has an intense beefiness and is excellent with hearty greens like cabbage or scallions. Add some ground beef to make it more filling.
Tumblr media
Tseng noodles with black sesame sauce
SAUCY
Nongshim, Jjapaghetti (Noodle Pasta with jjajang Sauce) “On Sundays, I’m the chef for Jjapaghetti” has been a Korean catchphrase for more than a decade. A combination of two dishes — jajangmyun (black bean noodles) and spaghetti— this saucy Korean instant noodle is also what spurred the ram-don trend after its crucial role in Parasite. The accompanying savory black bean sauce is all it really needs, though I highly recommend a luxe drizzle of truffle oil, too.
Indomie Mi Goreng Instant Stir Fry Noodles If you haven’t tried this Indonesian instant noodle, stop what you’re doing and fix that immediately. The package comes with a liquid seasoning mix of savory onion-flavored oil, sweet-spicy chili sauce, and sweet soy sauce, creating a salty-and-sweet coating for the wavy noodles. Any optional toppings like grilled steak or boiled eggs are just gravy.
Samyang Extra Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen Are you up for #FireNoodleChallenge? Join the leagues of people who’ve filmed themselves slurping these dangerously spicy noodles. There are multiple flavor options available, from carbonara to curry, and all of them equally fiery. Cover this with lots of mozzarella cheese to tone down the heat to the point where you might actually enjoy it.
Tseng Noodles Scallion With Sichuan Pepper Flavor This Taiwanese instant noodle is all about texture. Its curling, knife-cut-like strands are a perfect match for the sauce. There are many different flavors, besides this scallion one, such as black sesame and shallots. Depending on the sauce, the noodles textures vary. Think of this as gourmet-tier, since it costs slightly more than other noodles, but it’s totally worth the splurge.
Paldo Bibim Myun Cold Noodle The spicy, tangy, sweet sauce of these Korean noodles will wake up even the dullest of palates. Cook the noodles until they’re just al dente, or still a little firm, then rinse them under cold water to get rid of any residual starch and achieve peak bounce and chew. The sauce packet is an excellent salad dressing, too. Add some chopped cucumber and hard-boiled egg for a clutch midnight snack, or add some ice cubes for a cooling summer treat.
Mom’s Dry Noodle Sichuan Spicy The Taiwanese knife cut-style noodles cling to the oily, spicy sauce for maximum slurpability. Top with a fried egg or fried cubed tofu and you can almost pretend you’re at a restaurant.
