Five Common Reasons To Check Your Engine Light Is On
Tumblr media
It's among every car owner's worst nightmares: that check engine light has become illuminated in your dash. This indicates that there are serious problems underneath your car's hood.
It might be a simple fix, but it could also be a problem that leaves you in a bind and cost you thousands of dollars unless it's dealt with promptly. Whatever the case, it's crucial to find the root of the issue as soon as you can. If you need additional hints about engine light, check out here.
Here are five of the most common reasons your check engine light may be on.
1. Problem with Your Gas Cap
Out of all the reasons that your check engine light might be on, this one could be the most cost-effective and easiest to repair. In certain cars, the check engine light will come on when the cap on your gas tank is not in place or is damaged, loose, or broken.
Gas fumes from your car may escape into the air if the gas cap isn't correctly sealant your fuel system. You'll lose fuel and you will have to refill your vehicle more often because of this loss.
2. Oxygen Sensor Malfunction
One of the most common reasons your check engine light might appear is that the oxygen sensor has failed. It is easily replaced by the local Western Washington auto shop. This will enable you to restore your vehicle's ability of measuring unburned oxygen within the exhaust system.
Your engine will use more fuel if it's not replaced before the fuel economy declines. A new oxygen sensor will also help you prevent damage to your catalytic converter and spark plugs.
3. Problems with Spark Plugs
The spark plugs in your vehicle are responsible for the ignition of fuel in your vehicle's combustion chamber. They receive their spark from the ignition coil by way of the spark plug wires. A problem with either your spark plug's wiring or the spark plugs itself could cause the check engine light to turn on.
If you ignore this issue, it could cause a blocked catalytic converter, damaged ignition coils, or issues with your oxygen sensor. Spark plugs that are healthy are essential to maintain your car's performance and fuel efficiency.
4. Bad Catalytic Converter
youtube
The catalytic converter usually fails after the other issues with your engine are not taken care of. Your car will not function properly if it's not functioning properly if your catalytic converter stops working.
It is also necessary to have a functioning catalytic converter in order to pass an emissions test, since it's responsible for reducing carbon monoxide emission.
5. Failing Aftermarket Alarm
You could have an engine check light on because you've recently added an aftermarket alarm to your car.
Failing products or poor installation can lead to a range of issues, such as failure to get the engine started, drained batteries, and many other issues.

Man, sometimes living alone with ADHD really do be like:
Me: Huh, I wonder why I'm so shaky and tired and seeing spots everywhere
Also me: *hasn't eaten food in two days, hasn't had water in just as long, has been hunched over current hyper fixation for hours without moving, hasn't seen sunlight in days*
Me: .... Just one of life's great mysteries I suppose

How did this happen? Well The Human declined to comment beyond cursing out her muscles again, but we'll keep you updated as the story unfolds.
Stay tuned for more body crumbling shenanigans!

(I can't animate but I decided to go above and beyond and draw it anyways, the inbetweens would be showing that the lock is locked, handing it to Clover, him pressing a paw onto the lock to open it, and him walking up to show off)
Here's that video you asked for, pretty sure applying paint to the inside of a lock would make it not work so I guess I'm out of luck with that

hello yes please tell your weird green dog that i love him
Sorry, I should've been more specific, that's my bad o-o' the paint works on childproofing measures. Like those plastic latches that go around the handles and stuff? That's how we use it here. They can't open the cabinets cus they're tied down, and can't take the latch off cus they can't use their powers on it. Espeon especially, as they're quadrupedal, so they don't have thumbs with which to open it even if they do figure it out. You spray the thing when it's unlocked to make sure it gets everywhere, then assemble it back together. Most locks have enough wiggle room to accommodate the extra material, and I think some have, like, a built in coating now? Idk, I just do it the old fashioned way.
We do this on almost everything around here, including electrical outlets. Because slowpoke are complete dumbasses and will absolutely lick a wall socket.
Also Chives looks like he's doing good :) I know we don't talk about him much since leafeon tend to be pretty quiet, but his ears and tail are looking really healthy, and it looks like he's even got sprouts growing in, which is a great sign ^^ They only sprout when they're comfortable, so that's his way of showing he trusts you :D

Sometimes, the mechanic claims they fixed it. You stare at the light and insist they didn't for thirty minutes. They tell you a different auto shop will call you because theirs doesn't have the tools to get under the hood of your car and look at it.
You wait. You get the appointment. You schedule another with the mechanic.
It's been four weeks. The mechanic agrees something's wrong and wants to do the same fix as last time. You read up on a different fix for your car that will last longer. Your mechanic scoffs at you, for you are not a mechanic. You've only had this car for a short time. If you do something like that, it'll only last five years! But you know better. It will last twenty. The check engine light has been flashing for ten.
You get a new mechanic. He looks at the reports from the second auto shop.
"This car looks like it has seventy years of damage. What happened?"
having an undiagnosed illness is like the check engine light being on all the time in your car, but when you take it to the mechanic, they announce happily that all the tests came back fine! and you just stare at the check engine light with dread.

If you know anyone who seems really chill to the point of being virtually indestructible, like nothing could ever bother them in any way, could get hit by a train and just shake it off and be totally fine, laughing it off as soon as they've dusted themselves off and stopped bleeding, but who occasionally just randomly falls apart to complete fucking smithereens with seemingly no cause nor warning, only to get back up again a few minutes/hours/days later like "ok yeah I'm fine again that was weird lmao", and you've ever wondered what the fuck is up with that:
They are actually not ok and most likely are not ok at any point. The whole "hardiest person you know who just collapses randomly sometimes" thing isn't a deliberately constructed façade, as a matter of fact it might be something that they actually personally believe themselves to be. But in reality this is somebody who's either unintentionally learned or has been deliberately trained to hide negative emotions and mask symptoms at all costs, as the #1 priority that goes over any other survival needs.
So even though it may look like they go from 1 to 100 completely at random and unpredictably, and then swing right back again to being totally fine, you have no way of knowing how long they've been at 95% before the last line of defense broke down and the system collapsed. And once they flip back up, odds are that they just managed to scrape their shit back together again just enough to get their backup masking systems running. The "check engine" light never turned on because the wire was clipped years ago.
If this is you, this is your callout to seek some sort of help. I'm telling on everyone in this room including myself.
