there is nothing ableist about the fact that if you cannot make the type of art you want to make due to disability, ai Does Not enable you to make that art. no matter what your disability is, and even if youre 100% ablebodied, you cannot make art with publicly available generative ai tools. you are not making art. that is not what making art is.
you are doing the exact equivalent of typing a search term into google except instead of simply returning results that have been made by other people it just mashes those results together. badly. im not passionate about ip law, i dont give a fuck truly, the fact that its not your art that you created is not a moral judgment, it is just a fact. using a publicly available generative ai tool Is Not creating art.
if your disability precludes you creating what you want to create artistically Without the use of generative ai tools, then unfortunately that type of creation is just something that you are not able to do. thats how being disabled works sometimes. the use of these tools is not an accessibility aid that empowers disabled people to do art. it is an internet toy that produces bad images for you to look at.
#im not even anti ai i dont think its worth caring about that much on this issue#when like academic and professional use of chatgpt is a Way bigger problem#if i see an image that was ai generated i move on with my life#but if you think its ableist to not respect those images as Art That You Made#i dont know what to tell you. it just isnt.

ok but like why wouldn’t you ask me first 😭😭
#just read my own writing passed through ai and wow that was so weird and uncomfortable!!#possibly partially because i did not ask for that. someone decided to shorten my writing using chatgpt and asked me to look it over#which i have qualms with in the first place. like just tell me to shorten it….#but also it’s like insanely uncanny 😭 i probably sound so out of touch rn i’m sure everyone knows but like damn#like it’s my writing. the general point i was trying to make is still there. but like it’s missing so much of my thinking#like when i read things i’ve written for fun or professionally/academically there’s like stuff beyond what’s actually in the text#as there is for like. literally any writing ever of course#but this is feels like someone read my work and then told me what they thought i was thinking while i wrote it and it’s SO off#ok that’s it not to be mr obvious as always but I DONT LIKE GENAI#mostly for reasons that are worse than this obvi but wow continued encouragement to be a hater!!!!

Trying to bully my brother out of using AI for math homework when there's at least, like, perfectly good online calculators that he could use instead if he wanted a cheap but reliable way out, but then I remembered he went to a career fair last year where he got told by A Person With A Job In The Industry that he should be using ChatGPT to write more code, so like. I think I might not be able to convince him on this one, and also might just stop trusting any technology designed since 2023 to do anything correctly or safely ever
#kids these fucking days don't even know how to find an integral calculator on wolfram alpha or whatever. doomed society#i think some versions of chat GPT can call wolfram alpha's own AI now? but why not just? use a wolfram alpha calculator?#don't read my tags below this if you have anxiety#but i know. i just know in my heart. that at least one industry professional out there#has used ChatGPT to write code to be implemented in autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles#it is a statistical certainty.#and i will be spending the rest of my life pretending that i don't know that for a fact

Januar–April 2025
Dangerous Professional Style
"Dangerous Professional" ist ein Konzept von Patrick McKenzie alias patio11. Wenn man zum Beispiel mit Banken zu tun hat, ist es wirksamer, ihnen in einem Stil zu schreiben, bei dem die Person auf der Bankenseite sofort denkt "oha, jemand vom Fach".
"Memetically, being a Dangerous Professional means communicating in what might be a slightly adversarial context in a way which suggests that a bureaucracy take one’s concerns seriously and escalate them to someone empowered to resolve them swiftly.)" (Patrick McKenzie, Quelle)
(Kathrin Passig)

not to bring tiktok drama on tumblr but like every time a ‘scandal’ comes out with one of these ‘production companies’ that make fan films i always hope we’re finally gonna discuss how they professionalize something that should be an hobbyist endeavor… and yet every single time i’m disappointed.
#like I know we’ve been talking about it here on tumblr and i remember seeing like one or two videos on tt about it#but other than that creators really don’t seem to be engaging critically with the impact that the very nature of what they’re doing has#and look i truly do love the art that some of the people involved in the project make#like arone is truly one of the most talented cosplayers i know#ethan is an amazing actor and I’ve followed him since before he was even in the marauders#dorian is a great writer and idk the others as well but I’m sure they are all great artists#((naming the just cause i feel like being vague would be worse in this case))#and i do believe they engaged with the project with the best of intentions#without knowing or trying to afford grace on past controversy#and it truly is a horrible predicament to have your work be tainted like that for something you had no control over#but like i do think we should be questioning the very idea of how this fanfilms have been made is inherently a problem#like fanfilms are essentially fanfiction on camera#so as long as a few cosplayers want to get together with their iphones write a script and shoot at the local park I don’t have a problem#but if you are putting in place a product that somehow requires you to fundraise consistently for two years then I have a problem with it#ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE SELLING THE SCRIPT TO DO SO#cause even if that script hadn’t been ai generated#that script is fanfiction and you do. not. sell. fanfiction.#seriously like… do we need to go over our abc again?#like fanart and cosplayers are a bit different in the sense that people sell fanart/do commissions and they can be professional cosplayers#but for any other fanmade project that requires you to put pen to paper (or keyboard to chatgpt ig)#you need to be engaging with several ethical questions regarding any exchange of money#and personally i don’t think that there’s been engagement with those ethical reflections#and this isn’t about any of the people involved and not even about mischief productions specifically#it’s about a wider issue in how we have been collectively normalizing a way of doing things that should not be normal#and like yes star using ai and being overall not good is bad but like can we talk about EVERYTHING ELSE please

I performed an unethical human experiment on my chatgpt-loving boss by offering three draft emails, two I wrote myself and one by chatgpt. He said the ones i wrote were fine and said the chatgpt one was “sterile” and rewrote it. A win for humanity and me specifically
#imo chatgpt is great for writing sterile business type messages bc its great at rephrasing things in a formal and awkward way#i can kinda tell when a student is using it but i don’t hold it against them bc for a lot of them English is not their first language and#theyre nervous about communicating with staff and phrasing things professionally

coworkers: what about using ai to do xyz?
me, stepping onto my soapbox: let me tell you All The Reasons i wont do it and also why you shouldnt do it either
#idk what's up w/my boss but she keeps asking about using ai for stuff#and im like. no. i will write my own meeting minutes. i will write my own emails.#im sorry but like. doing that is building your professional muscle and when you shortcut it w/ai i'm like ??? what are we even doing here#also like. considering i'd have to double check everything anyway to make sure it was done accurately tbh it's just as much work lol#every time someone was like 'well what if we use chatgpt to do--'#i was going 'NO!!!!'#my youngest coworker was like 'sometimes i use it to write emails at the end of the day when my brain is tired :('#and i was like. okay. then just write the email the next day.#especially since she's in this job for experience im like YOU ESPECIALLY should be writing your own stuff#like stop letting ai take away your professional muscle. stop using shortcuts to do very easy things for no reason.#stop using an environmentally unsafe tool to write. a fucking. email.#im sorry that one gets me emails are so easy. theyre so easy. if you cant brain good the email can always wait until tomorrow.#my other coworker was like 'well ai lets me know the best way to phrase it so other people get what i'm saying'#and i was like ???? just because it's ai doesnt mean it's infalliable or all knowing!!!! it can make mistakes and misword stuff!!!!!#it can ALSO making confusing emails!!!!!#[long scream]#anyway i've made my position REALLY clear about this and i'm getting more and more annoyed that we keep talking about it

i usually have no problems to just unfollow people but i always thought if i started to unfollow people because of annoying ai posts then i would have to unfollow like 70% of my dash but now that i decided to remake i feel like i can finally say how annoying people on here about ai omg
#that email one reeks of superiority for a website where i see like at least 10 posts a week about how annoying emails are#like i only ever used chatgpt for cover letters when i was job hunting because 3 different professionals told me adjusting a chatgpt#motivational letter will already put you over like most other people#but i know a lot of teenagers who try to get out of rural india and i always tell them to use chatgpt to include the social conventions etc#and honestly i wouldn't even give a fuck if my colleagues used chatgpt to write an email#like I do think we desperately need to regulate ai!!!! we really really do!!!!! so many negative things to consider!!! but the way people o#here talk about ai 💀

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Careful About Machine Translation
Machine translation (MT) usually refers to using algorithms and machine learning (ML) models to translate natural language text from one language to another without human intervention. The most common MT examples include but are not limited to Google Translate, Bing Microsoft Translator, Amazon Translate and DeepL.
With the rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT, many industries face unprecedented challenges, and the translation industry hasn't been spared. Taking efficiency and cost into consideration, more and more business clients tend to use machine translation to complete their projects.
However, is it always a wise choice? Here are 5 reasons why you should be careful about machine translation:
① Cultural Accuracy: Every culture possesses unique lexical terms, slang, and colloquialisms that machines haven't shown the capability to translate yet, inaccurate translations may lead to poor interpretation of your brand, vision, market position and business strategies.
② Human Touch: Human translation goes through a time-tested process of multiple editing and proofreading to ensure that the translation isn't only grammatically correct and readable, but always enhanced for the target audience. On the contrary, machine translation can only generate simple, toneless text, it's fast and budget-friendly, but it can never be intriguing.
③ Flexibility: Language is constantly evolving, one single term may have entirely different meanings in different contexts, let alone phrases, sentences or even longer paragraphs. MT tools can only generate translations based on the known corpus, they can't predict and correct specific grammatical and cultural errors like human do.
④ Layout: Good translation takes time, so does formatting/layout. When we assess the quality of translation, formatting/layout also palys an important part. Unfortunately, almost all MT tools can't handle this properly, they just ignore it or put some illustrative texts instead.
⑤ Confidentiality: As a responsible language service provider, we should never disclose customer information to any unauthorised third party. But as far as I am aware, some MT tools, especially ChatGPT, may collect and store different kinds of user input, which can be a great security risk for businesses.
In short, it's OK to use MT tools in less important content (i.e., content that does not require translation precision and extensive copywriting). But when it comes to business documents or audience-facing content, there is nothing can beat human translation.

dunno how other folks in customer support do it but i genuinely enjoy helping solve folks' problems so i try to sound as friendly as possible. this in turn means if i'm like "your response is appreciated" and "cordially," chances are you're 3 passive-aggressive messages past my limit and i'm exploding you with my mind
#the limit is skipped over immediately if you call me an ai or a robot#like from that point on i just hate you and will not try to look into things extra for you at all#i don't mean like i'll actively not help. i'll still help#i'll just do it 100% adhering to process with all the unnecessary steps i'll usually look over to spare you the headache#congrats! i'm your new headache now.#get fucked#okay this also depends largely on the day#like if its my first client and im fresh into my shift ill roll my eyes and decide i deserve a break after dealing with this#but if you're one of my lasts and it's a few minutes to midnight and you're also being unproductive#as in#literally explained a process to a guy today and he went 'another robot message'#like no dude you just dont speak english past a 6th grade level and anything professional sounds like a tech manual to you#get your head out of your chatgpt shaped ass and realize youre getting turned into an office meme by being like this#anyway LMAO
