Do you have any comic recommendations for someone who’s trying to get more into Kon and the other teen heroes?
sure thing!! sorry i took a while to answer this, i've been travelling and wanted to actually sit down and take the time to get you links to some lists :)
so for the young justice team in general, here's a reading list of all the peripheral stories and tie-ins that go along with young justice (1998)! yj98 is probably the easiest place to start if you don't really know any of them.
for cassie, since she doesn't have any long solos like the boys do, here's a list of all of her appearances.
i also have a list of all of tim's appearances, but i know that bc he has So Fucking Many it can be pretty overwhelming, so for tim i'd mostly just rec his solo, robin (1993)! that is still pretty long but it is a Good story about his overall character arc and i rly love it so i will just rec the entirety, but i can also go through and find my fav arcs if you prefer a smaller selection sdkjfh
i don't have on-hand a similar list for bart yet but for him i will just say Read Impulse (1995). Do It. Impulse (1995) Is The Comic Of All Time. it's not that long comparatively (as in, less than 100 issues) and it's just suuuch a good story!!!
AND FOR KON: firstly here's a list of all HIS appearances. but also let me get on my soapbox really quick and say once again that i love superboy (1994)!!!! reign of the supermen is kon's origin story, which is probably easiest to read as a tpb (it follows the events of the death of superman), and then superboy '94 follows his further adventures. if you aren't aware, there is grooming and heavily implied statutory rape in this comic that gets... pretty excused by the narrative as being like. haha teen boys like adult women! and that sucks but also makes for a fascinating, tragic, accidental look at the way vulnerable kids get exploited from so many angles.
as for the general konmic reading experience, if getting into Every Single Appearance is (understandably!) too much at first, i also once wrote up this post about the major points to hit!

New Gen, ep 1 y 2
Finally I had time for a "little" review! I'm late but better late than never. Like many, I had my expectations and I can say that, apart from 1 point that concerns me and that I will mention later. I am pleasantly surprised with the final product.
Let's start at the beginning and I want to say that I really like that they give us a full context about Ysaline's life and her family from the very first moment, it helps me to connect with her, unlike Candy who in ep 20 I think we just meet her parents. And like Ysaline, I'm ready to make the same mistakes again and even worse (Why go for 1 boss? if you can go for 2 😏)
The animations, I don't want to leave out the animations, from the changes of expression of our character in each dialogue, to the, at first weird but then not so weird, "camera close-ups", I loved them. Thomas peeking out from the side of the screen or when a route approaches us in the moments of the dates, are an extra touch that helped me to get more into the story.
Regarding the routes and characters in general I want to say that I find them nice, it is a varied group in personalities which is what interests me the most and I want to discover who have their own groups and who are besties (the scene where they all run into Devon's office is awesome). Now with the routes, from second 1 I declared myself Jason and Thomas route, which I tried to follow but to my surprise, just following my instinct I ended up on Devon and Jason's routes…. (by the way the new Cassy/Nath) The personalities of the routes are well defined and, at least in my experience with Devon and Jason I felt "chemistry" that with the others I didn't (and that's ok, I'm not looking to fall in love with everyone).
Now talking about plots, I feel they have a lot to draw from, and although I know that showing the Cosy Bear Cafe event would be very difficult due to the personalization of each player, I don't deny that I would like to see it in NG. I don't mind that some arcs may be cliche, as long as they take risks as they have been doing in MCLLL, I want to see controversial and/or sensitive topics!
And finally… my ONLY complaint, and more than a complaint is a concern, is the issue of the points and not the PA's, no, not at all, I made a very quick calculation and it's fine. But the gems is another thing, 2 per day + 7 on the last day of the month gives us between 65 and 67, if they release 1 episode every 2 months, well that's perfect, you have 130-134 gems for the episode. What's the "but" then? I'm a sl@t and I like to have special moments with more than one route… in this case 2, if it is 1 additional scene per route and each one costs 120 gems, in an episode I would have 240… so I would have to wait DOUBLE to play an episode my way, to my taste… Is it unforgivable? Not at all, it's a detail in fact, but if someone would read this, they could lower it a little… just a little, maybe to 100 and I wouldn't feel so devastated ☹️
Other than that, and to close. New Gen was a positive surprise, you can see the love that is in the game, in terms of gameplay, graphics, animations, etc, etc. 100/10 nothing to say, excellent work. I TRUST that this quality that reflects the growth of Beemoov as a company and MCL as a franchise, will be seen in the plot, in the arcs and in the development of the routes, which after all, is the most important thing for the players.
So thanks for reading ❤️ and see you early tomorrow morning at the office…

Re Follow up to Wessa spicy and loving ur work > CC and long fits Q
I CANNOT WAIT FOR WESSA SPICY, U WRITE SPICY SO FREAKING WELL! I also have never thought about historical spicy stuff. which obviously happened cuz hello folks back then did it as well, it's not just a present day thing haha.
I think I just feel ur engagement is way more motivating and higher than CC's. Obv CC has mad kudos for creating this Universe, but like any author who has made It so clear that she wants to move on from the universe, the fun part is playing within it YK? Not just creating plots and marriages just so that the union and the good ending is the telos of it. The pay off is now seeing them banter about together, have the dynamics shift as they age, see how they view the world and how they continue to problem solve yk? And it gets even more fun when you create ensemble casts, bc THATS why Downton abbey is so long! It's so much fun to see it through, throughout!
An example I use is I follow these two authors who LOVEE their book universes, and also write generational fun family (modern day) ensamble casts with friends, and they spend normally 3-4 books focused on one character's OTP, seeing it through, throughout, and than moving onto another. Not the traditional stickler predictable "one book per pairing" in a series we see too often. AND THAN, when they move on, they continue to write publish 2 bonus chapters, update their interests boards, and talk about everything on their Patreon for like less than 3 dollars a month. there are over 100+ chapters now at this point!
Not to say that's what CC wants to do, but when you have amounted such a huge fandom, a lot of it is not just about making annual deliverables and canon events occur, but having fun just domestically and I feel like she doesn't want to do that. Which is totally fine! I respect that. But obviously the type of fan I am, as you can see, I gravitate towards the way you produce, engage and write (u write for yourself and ur fans, yes u have fans and I am one) more so than her. That's kind of what I was trying to get at in my initial post :-). Bc when CC wants to move on, it feel so lovely and safe, to know my safe space won't go, because ur still leading it. <3 <3 So again, from the bottom to the top of my heart, thank you <3
This made me tear up. Thank you so much, friend.
Messages like this make me feel extremely motivated to write. I really hope you enjoy my Valentine's fic as much as I am liking writing it.
I think I understand what you're saying - Cassie does a really good job of creating characters and telling their stories. I consider her to be one of the best creators of our time, specifically in TID and TLH as well as Sword Catcher (even if that one has less of a hold on me, it's inarguably one of her best works world-building and plot-wise.) But yes, sometimes you just want little fluffy post-canon stories of the characters, which is not always possible for a world-famous writer with tons of ongoing projects. I'm looking forward to Better in Black a lot because of this.
I just write what I want to see and roll with it. I am glad that it's what you want to see, too.
Dear God, I am tearing up a lot. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, I truly appreciate everyone who has read one of my fics and given me a chance to play with their blorbos.

Presenting Katie Wolfe, a.k.a Copycat!
@homegrown-blorbo-garden
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I suck at drawing without a base, so here's the references I used!
First one I genuinely have no clue. I drew it like 4 or 5 years ago in my high school-provided subscription of Photoshop so I do not have the files. I searched up something along the lines of "superhero pose drawing reference female" though.
2nd!
3rd!
4th I used HeroForge as a reference.
Now that the art showcase is complete, I shall tell her story! Well, part of it. You see Katie is part of an entire multiverse I created called FiveOh Comics. At my count right now, there's 285 characters in this universe (plus an rp Discord server which I can link to anyone interested in joining). There's a ton of storylines all over the universe, and Copycat in particular has an entire 100 episode-10 season show I'm writing about her that I want to get officially produced, but I don't have time to go through all of it today, so here's the essentials!
Katie Wolfe is an anomaly, born with superhuman powers that manifested at 10. She could copy any actions she saw other people take, so long as she physically had the capability to do so. She could also chameleon herself to look like other people, or change her own appearance. Worth mentioning also that she's bisexual and polyamorous.
She's the daughter of Timberwolf (a.k.a Theresa Wolfe), one of the most famous superheroes in the world and the leader of POW! (Protectors Of the World), the first superhero team ever. Theresa's also the smartest person in the world, and runs the company Wolfe Sciences, dedicated to creating products that advance humanity's capabilities. I'll talk about Theresa again in a later post when I've drawn a not-shitty picture of her in hero mode.
Trying to follow in her mother's footsteps, Katie helped found Alpha Sentinel, the most popular hero team in the world, since it had two former members of POW! leading it and never seemed to lose. In the fight that formed the team, Katie met a shapeshifter from a doomed civilization in the core of the Earth, who'd been jettisoned to the surface to save her. Confused and angry, she lashed out, until the soon-to-be team pacified her and they slunk off. Katie later tracked her down and brought them to her mother. After a while of acclimating to the surface and its society, she took a human form, naming herself Emily and choosing to stay with Katie and Theresa. Theresa officially adopted her, and she became Katie's sister.
After 3 successful years of Alpha Sentinel's career, tragedy struck. One member was trapped within his own mind, one was killed, a third was traumatized so bad she quarantined herself in her room for nearly a year, and a fourth was hospitalized, leaving only Katie and Stingray (aka Steven Raye, Theresa's best friend) still active heroes. Of course, though, Katie was not unaffected by this event, and she retreated into a shell for over a month, right up to the start of the Copycat series, the events of which I won't spoil.
Over the course of the show, however, she deals with her own emotional scars and brings together friends, even saving the old AS member who was trapped in his own mind, and created a new Alpha Sentinel, consisting of herself, Stingray, the previously mentioned member of AS, Riptide, Timberwolf, her sister Emily, calling herself Goop Girl, her best friend Cassie Wright, or Libra, and a wizard named Stardust.
Oh, also there's a strong chance she's a daughter of Athena. At the very least, she's been blessed, as Athena has allowed her to summon Aegis and Astrape.
I'll get to all of these characters in due time, of course, but for now, that's Katie's story! Here's some quotes from her for good measure.
Katie: I live in fear of John Cena brushing my mouth like Colgate.
Katie: Hey, y’know how some people get birds released at their weddings?
Emily: …yes?
Katie: I want Cassowaries released at my wedding.
Theresa: "Katie, if you ever utter the phrase 'copyright incringement' in my house again, I'm kicking you out."
Katie, dying: I’m sorry… you know I had to do it to ‘em…
Katie: You're not a copycat. Nothing has ever been done the way you do it before. Everything you do is special and unique to you.

hi, congrats on 100 followers!!
could i get a matchup from haikyuu? my location is the café, and my style is 90’s grunge with a bit of dark academia. my pronouns are she/her. tysm!!
Hello dear anon, thank youuuu it means a ton! Omg yes, I love your vibe, turn it up!! Virtual Matchup loading...
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾。・:*:・゚★。*✧・゚:˚۰˚˚。・:
I Match you with: Tsukishima Kei
Tumblr media
Location: The Café
Aesthetic/Style: 90's Grunge + Dark Academia
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾。・:*:・゚★。*✧・゚:˚۰˚☽˚。・:
Drabble
Kei wasn't a people person, which was pretty easy to tell just from his demeanor, but unbeknownst to many, this was especially true when he hasn't had coffee. It's deeply ingrained in his routine, going to the same café every morning. Well, except today, because waking up late forced him to miss his morning drink. So once he was finally free that afternoon, he decided to go get a coffee to turn his crappy day around. Walking into the café he was happy to leave behind the harsh winter rain and be engulfed by the warmth of the cozy shop and the smell of coffee brewing. Unfortunately, he realized he had miscalculated his plan after ordering his cup of black coffee and a slice of strawberry shortcake. The café was so full it only had a few stools left by the bar area but the rain would ruin the food if he took it home, so he had to stay, hopefully far from any chatty strangers.
That's when he spotted you; sitting at the bar by the window, a big mug sitting by your laptop as you worked away on it, so focused that your expression was more of a frown than neutral despite managing to look peaceful. Cozied up in your warm brown jacket, you were somehow unaware of the constant conversations and the clanking of cutlery as you bounced your boots against your stool. Deciding you seemed like a more ideal stool neighbor than the rest, he headed over to you and cleared his throat to get your attention. "Is it taken?" he asked, not even bothering to smile while nodding towards the spot. "No, go ahead," you replied unfazed as you shot him a tired smile and scooted your things together. Tsukishima sat down, finally able to take a sip of coffee as he took out his phone. You two were so absorbed in your stuff that you didn't notice the seat at the other side of Kei became available and was immediately taken by a bubbly woman around you guy's age. "Is the cake here good? I've always wanted to try it," you heard her say to the blonde guy next to you. "I guess," he replied so sharply that you could tell he was annoyed without even looking. "Cool, I will take your word for it," she giggled before continuing, batting her eyelashes at Kei while trying to spark up a conversation. Tsukishima tried his best to be as dry replying as possible so she'd get the hint, but not even his evident frown got her to leave him alone, her blabbering getting on your nerves too. So seeing how she was annoying both of you, you decided to step in.
"Hi, sorry to bother you," you spoke up and leaned on your arm as you faced the woman, catching the attention of both. "Can we help you?" It was the first time the girl didn't sound sickly sweet while speaking, in fact she sounded condescending, only making your next move easier. "I was about to ask you the same thing," you said neutrally, her becoming visibly confused. "My friend and I are working on a project here, so it'd be lovely if you left us to it," you said, gesturing to the guy and the laptop, yet past the initial shock she didn’t seem convinced. On the other hand, the blonde guy wasn’t even caught off guard; a barely noticeable yet sly smile settling on his features once your gazes met. Internally Tsukki was glad he sat next to you and your quick thinking. "Really? Well, I haven't seen you guys exchange a word this whole time," the girl said defensively, only for the blonde to sigh audibly as he picked up his mug. "You've been observing us this whole time? Kinda creepy," he said coldly before turning to you, "you're right, we should get back to work." Embarrassed by Tsukishima's direct comment, the girl just huffed and left in a hurry, leaving you two finally in silence.
Despite that, things didn't go back to the way they were now that you realized how handsome the stranger was when he wasn't angry, but not wanting to make his day worse you just kept your mouth shut. “Thank you,” you heard him say, surprised he spoke up at all after what you witnessed. “Oh, it’s nothing, it just seemed like she was getting on both of our nerves so,” you chuckled as a genuine smile became faintly visible on his lips. “I’m Tsukishima Kei,” he said, extending his pale hand at you. “(Y/N),” you said, shaking his hand. “Here’s the thing, I don’t like feeling like I owe people things, so would you get coffee with me someday so we're even?” It was your turn to smile brightly raising an eyebrow at the intriguing guy and deciding to take him up on the casual offer. Regardless of whether or not you picked up on it, Kei wasn’t as nonchalant about seeing you again as he let on.

My Top 10 Thriller Films of All Time
These are the most thrilling films I personally have ever seen. I love all types of dark, scary cinema, so I sort of lump thrillers together with horror in my brain. I ranked them based on how much I like them and how thrilled I was lol, so this is 100% not definitive.
10. Fight Club (1999)- Amazon Prime
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Drama
A disillusioned office employee’s life gets a little more interesting when he meets a strange soap salesman who introduces him to the world of underground fighting.
TW: alcohol, blood, body horror, self h*rm, violence, guns
I’m sure many of y’all have seen this one. This one is more just good and classic than thrilling. Don’t get me wrong; it definitely has its moments. The end is still so good all these years later. I just couldn’t not have it on this list.
9. Se7en (1995)- Pluto TV, HBO Max
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Crime, drama
A veteran detective is paired up with a rookie in order to solve a string of elaborate murders.
TW: Blood, body horror, gore, alcohol, violence, guns
I get the vibe that this inspired Saw a little bit. It’s extremely brutal and pulls no punches. You just never know where John Doe will pop up next. I found myself a little bit...excited? to see John Doe’s next kill? The kills are very expressive and almost artistic. And it’s sort of a rollercoaster from start til finish, too. Truly thrilling til the end.
8. I Am Mother (2019)- Netflix
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Scifi, apocalyptic
Following a mass extinction event, a maternal robot raises a teenage girl in an effort to repopulate the Earth when one day, a stranger arrives at their door.
TW: Violence, medical scenes, blood
The journey Daughter goes on to uncover the truth about Mother is so harrowing to me. The slow realization she had gives me the chills just thinking about it. Also, the acting is top notch (duh, Hilary Swank) I really can’t say too much more without spoiling it. You’ll just have to trust me on this rec ;).
7. Revenge 2017)- Shudder
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Action, r*pe revenge
A young woman is ass*ulted and left for dead on a romantic getaway with her wealthy boyfriend. She then embarks on a quest for revenge.
TW: SA, guns, body horror, gore, blood, violence
Like I said on Letterboxd: This film has strong symbolism, good throwback music, strong camerawork, good stylistic choices, and good talent. It all adds up to one very thrilling package. You just know she’s got this because she has a fire in her eyes, but you’re still not 100% sure she’s going to make it because of how disadvantaged she is in this situation. That’s where the tension comes from. Especially when she lets her fierce façade slip.
6. Promising Young Woman (2020)- Hulu, HBO Max
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Dark comedy
Cassie (Carey Mulligan) is busy living a double life when an encounter with someone from the past gives her a chance to right some wrongs.
TW: SA, su*cide, domestic violence, alcohol
This one I found to be on the less thrilling, but more enjoyable side. I think it was a little difficult to tell if we were supposed to be rooting for Cassie or not throughout the film because we aren’t certain of what she’s up to. Maybe that’s why I found it to be a little less thrilling. But that end reveal (? I guess you could call it that?) is SO dope. It ties a thrilling, satisfying bow right on top of the feminist package.
5. Coherence (2013)- Pluto TV, Tubi, Crackle
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Supernatural, existential, scifi
A group of friends is gathered for a dinner party during an astronomical event that causes weird things to start happening.
TW: Alcohol, drugs
This is what I wrote on my last post about this film:
“This film excels at disorienting you by making you question the characters and their true intentions. It even makes you question whether YOU are a good person or your own evil twin. What are we capable of that we didn’t think we were? There are other movies that do this, but this one is subtle and makes you think you know the answer before turning it on its head.”
All of that, yes. I am continually impressed by what filmmakers can do with a slim budget.
4. Behind Her Eyes (2021)-Netflix
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Psychological, supernatural
A single mother enters a salacious world of mind games when she begins an affair with her boss and a friendship with his wife.
TW: Su*cide, alcohol, drugs, pregnancy problems
You can tell Adele has some weird shit going on from almost the get-go. Thinking about her vibes is giving me chills. The writing is so good; it gives you little hints throughout the story, which added to the mystery. Themes of jealousy in the show also make it feel a little bit more salacious and dangerous.
Based on what I’ve seen online, it seems like people either love or hate this limited series. More specifically, the ending. My. Head. Exploded. I LOVE the ending. It absolutely wrecked me lol. I couldn’t recommend this show enough. You might hate it, but you will NOT be bored by it.
3. El Hoyo (The Platform) (2019)- Netflix
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Scifi, dystopian
In the future, there is a prison with vertical cells, down through which a platform of food is served. The people at the top tend to gorge themselves, and people further down starve.
TW: Food troubles, starvation, violence, SA, blood, gore, su*cide, racial slur
The crown jewels of this film are the acting and writing. The thrills come from the character development and the dire situation our protagonist finds himself in. I always want to try to analyze why this film gets to me so much, but I can’t really ever pinpoint it. Maybe it’s the denial of necessities and watching what people will do when they get desperate.
2. Greenland (2020)- Hulu, HBO Max
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Apocalyptic, existential
John (Gerard Butler), Allison (Morena Baccarin), and their son get several notifications that they’ve been chosen to go to a bunker in Greenland for an imminent mass extinction event, and they must fight everyone in hysterics to get there.
TW: Violence, guns, blood, explosions, gore
From my first entry on this film:
“This film is more of an existential terror. You will see that I generally find realism to be the scariest, and that rings true here. This film really felt like it was probably how this situation would be handled. Everything from the woman begging Gerard Butler to save her child to the US government flying its most important people to an underground bunker for safety. You will find yourself rooting for Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin to make it through this truly harrowing and emotional ordeal, from which escape seems impossible. There’s just a relentless feeling of dread and desperation throughout the whole film.”
1.Oldboy (2003)-Hulu, HBO Max
Tumblr media
Subgenres: Mystery, revenge
Oh Dae-Su (Choi Min-sik) is a belligerent drunk who gets kidnapped and held prisoner in a single hotel room for 15 years. When he is finally released, he seeks out his mysterious captor for revenge.
TW: Blood, gore, violence, su*cide, SA, guns, inc*st
I think this film is the one that made me realize I actually like cinema as more than a casual viewer when I watched it for the first time in 2009. It is thrilling to watch Dae-Su fight his way to the person who abducted and imprisoned him. It all comes together so deliciously. Revenge on revenge. This ends in a similar way to Behind Her Eyes. It’s very shocking and unexpected. One of my all-time favorite films, for sure.
I know there are some repeats, but that’s only because those films legitimately belong on both lists, imo. Let me know if I missed any trigger warnings, and I'll add them. What did y’all think? Do you agree? What are your top thriller films? Hmu!
I’m thinking of making these lists into videos and/or turning this blog into a horror blog (I don’t have time to run multiple blogs). What would you beautiful folx think about that?

u know how theres those articles that are like “10 rules Kate middleton has to follow” or like “The Royal Family’s fashion rules”
if those articles were about the devilliers what would the rules (or the rumored rules) be?
hi!! omg this is a really interesting question 👁️👁️ especially since its canon gardanians are 1. nosy 2. like gossip. ill try to not go on my tangents i swear!! short and concise!!
related to social media: no personal accounts, only ones managed by their social media people. even young amelia broke this rule tho and had a private account. the younglings 100% have 'private' ones with only very close friends!!!
related to fashion: if a member of the de villiers rf wears orange, there'd be like conspiracy theories surrounding said event 😭 they (gardanians) see it as a bad luck color!!!
other fashion ones: emi technically shouldnt wear tiaras until shes eighteen // the classic nude nails only!! what would emi do to wear silly designs on her nails tho sdkfjsklf
the monarch (now amelia) approves/allows if someone is permitted to wear a certain tiara. u couldnt see, but at amelias coronation neither margie, madeleine or cassie were wearing tiaras : / only amelia and emi 💀
press related: obviously they have their press people and they only release statements that way!! including commenting on something or confirming/denying relationships, etc 👁️👁️
no pda!! a very old rule 😪 for the old ppl, handholding / hand on the back is fine, but the younglings aren't allowed to do any at ALL !! not even when the rs is confirmed 🧍‍♀️
i ran out of ideas

Marinette and Young Justice (comic version) playing laser tag and Marinette's part is distract Tim a.k.a the strategist of the other team so her team can take out their opponents.
Well... Cassie was a genius when she came up with that plan because Tim and Marinette are making out while Tim's team got pummeled to the ground in the background :D

Daminette but they are both immortal since Damian has the Lazarus Pits and Marinette is the Guardian and they are totally dependant on each other... except the tiny fact that Damian runs the League of Assassins and Marinette heads the Order.
They can't bear to separate from each other for too long and the League and the Order have to share a headquarters...

God the glee I feel when I think of Jason, being asked what he does for a job in an interview when he shows up to a red carpet event hanging onto Marinette's arm, with a totally straight face, declares that he's a "Professional Trophy Husband"

You know what would be amusing? A reckless Damian gets benched and to remove the temptation to sneak out in Gotham, Bruce ships him off to Paris. Only problem is Damian takes one look at the troubled teens/adorable animals of Team Miraculous and decides he is team papa now and is adopting them all.

May I offer this thought I had when I was returning home from school: Marinette moving to Gotham and opening a bar.
Some guys think that a bar would be a good place to conduct criminalizing acts but unfortunately for them, Marinette does not tolerate such things in her vicinity.
Jason, who is undercover as a bartender or a stripper, suddenly finds himself in this weird predicament where his targets are taken in by this tiny girl who owns the bar and he does not know what to do.

The Othello Halloween Blackout Party boasted a huge, costumed crowd with Blacklisters galore in attendance. It was a night of Halloween horrors - did you see some of those costumes? - and a ton of Halloween hook ups, and you know we have the dirt on all of it. If you don’t make it into this exposé, fear not. This is only part one of our coverage of the night. Where to begin...
Perhaps one of the more offensive moments of the night was the “gentleman’s bet” between Tommy Kane and Haneul Burk. Just as the party began, the pair were overheard making a game out of who can get with the most people, the fastest. Feeling objectified yet? No? Wait until you hear the prize: loser cooks the winner a meal. You read that correctly; the person who conquers the most partygoers gets fed.
Let’s review how that played out for them. Your friendly neighborhood mechanic struck out early with one Silas Black, who was overheard refusing to take him home because Haneul was too drunk. Burk very nearly landed Alexa Caldwell next, though she slipped through his fingers after a heavy make out session in the middle of the dancefloor for something a tad more dramatic of her own… but more on that later. Then, as best we could tell with the lights out, he spent the blackout cowering in the corner, afraid of the dark, before sobering up just enough to get Silas to agree to take him home at the end of the night. Burk shouldn’t feel too proud of himself for that one though Silas is a hunk, but his ego had just taken a hit after being rejected by Cassie Bennett, a bartender sixteen years his junior. Sleazy. Good on you for turning him down, Cassie.
For those keeping score, that’s one for Haneul.
Tommy spent the earlier part of the evening flirting with Haneul – that’s how the bet came to be – and then worked his charm on the very next person he came across. The janitor and his conquest got drunk, got dancing, and then went home together. Just like clockwork. Kane’s no stranger to the casual hookup. It’s clear this pattern is the norm for the guy. Over the last few weeks and as recent as a couple of days ago, he’s been spotted all around the city flirting his way into the pants of several other Blacklisters. So much so, in fact, that It would be easier to list the Blacklisters he hasn’t hooked up with. We sure do hope he’s getting tested.
And who was it Tommy managed to bag for his gentleman’s bet at the Blackout? None other than Dr. Brody Levi, the Chief Medical Examiner in Queens. A source tells us the pair grew up together and are longtime, childhood friends. In fact, the janitor appears to be Brody’s only friend. The doctor has been spotted dropping off groceries to Kane’s apartment, bringing him along to crime scenes –is that even legal?– and most notably, leaving together in a cab in the middle of the Halloween party after a heated kiss on the dancefloor. It certainly doesn’t take a genius to piece together what happened when they got back to Levi’s home that night.
It also doesn’t take a genius to see that Kane used him for the bet, though we expect that will be a very disappointing realization for Brody. Heartbreaking, even. A reliable source tells us that Brody is “100% lovesick” over Tommy, that it’s clear as day in the way he looks at the guy. We hope he wasn’t whispering sweet nothings in your ear, Brody, because he certainly doesn’t mean them. The way he skirted out of your building right after should be evidence enough of that. Did you enjoy waking up alone?
Final score for the night, by our count, is as follows: Haneul – one, Tommy – one. All that trashy objectification and there’s not even a winner. Boo. There were no parameters set about when the wager ends though, so for all we know it could still be going. We’re sure one of you will keep us posted of the final outcome – know that we always reward our informants.
Stay tuned for more from the Halloween Blackout. Rest assured we’ve got more in the works from this event, but if there is something or someone one you especially want to know more about, you know where to find us.

Melancholy Literary Fiction
The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro
"You've long set your heart against it, Axl, I know. But it's time now to think on it anew. There's a journey we must go on, and no more delay..." The Buried Giant begins as a couple set off across a troubled land of mist and rain in the hope of finding a son they have not seen in years. Sometimes savage, often intensely moving, Kazuo Ishiguro's first novel in nearly a decade is about lost memories, love, revenge, and war. Included on TIME Magazine's "THE 100 BEST FANTASY BOOKS OF ALL TIME"
A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson
In Life After Life Ursula Todd lived through the turbulent events of the last century again and again. In A God in Ruins, Atkinson turns her focus on Ursula’s beloved younger brother Teddy – would-be poet, RAF bomber pilot, husband and father – as he navigates the perils and progress of the 20th century. For all Teddy endures in battle, his greatest challenge will be to face living in a future he never expected to have.
An Unnecessary Woman by Rabih Alameddine
One of Beirut’s most celebrated voices, Rabih Alameddine follows his international bestseller, The Hakawati, with a heartrending novel that celebrates the singular life of an obsessive introvert, revealing Beirut’s beauties and horrors along the way. Aaliya Sohbi lives alone in her Beirut apartment, surrounded by stockpiles of books. Godless, fatherless, divorced, and childless, Aaliya is her family’s "unnecessary appendage.” Every year, she translates a new favorite book into Arabic, then stows it away. The thirty-seven books that Aaliya has translated have never been read—by anyone. After overhearing her neighbors, "the three witches,” discussing her too-white hair, Aaliya accidentally dyes her hair too blue. In this breathtaking portrait of a reclusive woman’s late-life crisis, readers follow Aaliya’s digressive mind as it ricochets across visions of past and present Beirut. Insightful musings on literature, philosophy, and art are invaded by memories of the Lebanese Civil War and Aaliya’s volatile past. As she tries to overcome her aging body and spontaneous emotional upwellings, Aaliya is faced with an unthinkable disaster that threatens to shatter the little life she has left. A love letter to literature and its power to define who we are, the gifted Rabih Alameddine has given us a nuanced rendering of a single woman's reclusive life in the Middle East.
The Burning Girl by Claire Messud
Julia and Cassie have been friends since nursery school. They have shared everything, including their desire to escape the stifling limitations of their birthplace, the quiet town of Royston, Massachusetts. But as the two girls enter adolescence, their paths diverge and Cassie sets out on a journey that will put her life in danger and shatter her oldest friendship. The Burning Girl is a complex examination of the stories we tell ourselves about youth and friendship, and straddles, expertly, childhood’s imaginary worlds and painful adult reality—crafting a true, immediate portrait of female adolescence. Claire Messud, one of our finest novelists, is as accomplished at weaving a compelling fictional world as she is at asking the big questions: To what extent can we know ourselves and others? What are the stories we create to comprehend our lives and relationships? Brilliantly mixing fable and coming-of-age tale, The Burning Girl gets to the heart of these matters in an absolutely irresistible way.

This is my dad, Papa Scunge. He runs the big corporation.
Mortal Kombat: Special Forces is a 3D action-adventure game developed and released by Midway Games for the PlayStation in 2000. The game stars the character Jackson "Jax" Briggs from the Mortal Kombat fighting game series.[1] The game was panned by critics for its lack of traditional Mortal Kombat-style violence, poor level design, and tedious gameplay.
Gameplay
Mortal Kombat: Special Forces is a third-person view action-adventure game. The only playable character is Jax, who uses not only hand-to-hand combat techniques but also firearms and explosives. There are five levels set on Earth in Otherrealm, with a boss battle at the end of each of them. Exploring the locations in the search for keys, the players solve puzzles, find the codes to unlock the doors, and blast hidden passages in walls. Jax can ascend to higher level platforms even as he cannot jump, but he can push large blocks.
The player can restore Jax's health meter using first-aid kits. The player also has a limited energy reserve: whenever Jax performs one of his special techniques, he spends energy that can be replenished by performing certain combos. Jax can attack with his hands and feet, as well as block counter strikes. Although there are no Fatality systems, the combo system allows finishing off the opponent with the final blow in case the enemy's health line is exhausted by this moment. The experience points that a player gains by defeating enemies allow one to get new combos. An in-game menu displays the presence of items in the player's inventory, and also contains information on the purpose of the current mission. After completing the game, the player can activate the cheat menu to start a new game with additional bonuses.
Plot
Special Forces is chronologically the first game in the Mortal Kombat storyline, as its events take place even before Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. The story of the game involves Kano freeing his gang, the Black Dragon from a maximum security prison. Major Jax, seeking revenge for the slaughter of his Special Forces comrades at the hands of the Black Dragon, undertakes a mission to stop them from retrieving an artifact of great power, the Eye of Chitian. The true power of the artifact is shown in the ending that it can open portals to other realms when Jax uses the artifact to teleport himself and Kano back to Earthrealm after defeating him.
Characters
Besides Jax, Kano, and Kano's Black Dragon subordinates Tremor and Jarek, the game features three characters exclusive to this entry in the series:
Gemini: Jax's base operative, relaying information and messages to him from headquarters. The two share a friendship, and Gemini worries excessively about Jax. Operating over radio only, she is never seen in-game.
No Face: A member of the Black Dragon organization led by Kano, who freed him from a high-security prison. He is described as only having knowledge of explosive devices, he wears sticks of dynamites strapped to his chest and uses a flamethrower as a weapon. He has no nose, ears, hair and a pale complexion, based on his name.
Tasia: An expert swordswoman and deadly ninja master who is a member of Kano's Black Dragon organization.[2] Like Tremor, No Face and Jarek, Kano freed her from a high-security prison. She wields two ninjatō swords and has an ability to teleport. She appears along with Jarek to capture Cassie and Jacqui by the orders of Black Dragon in Mortal Kombat X comic book.
Development
This was the second Mortal Kombat game developed by Midway that was not a fighting game, after having tested the waters with Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero in 1997. Series co-creator John Tobias intended to work on a series of platform games to expand the Mortal Kombat universe, including titles centering on Baraka and Liu Kang; only the latter was actually released by Midway (2005's Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks) despite having sat on the drawing board for many years.
Although Special Forces was only released on the PlayStation, it was also supposed to be released both on the Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast.[3] Many of the Midway Games staff, including Tobias, left the company in 1999 for various reasons while the game was still in production. The plot of Special Forces (which originally included Sonya Blade[4]) was greatly revised following Tobias's departure and the game was rushed to completion.
Tobias said about the final version: "You know I really never played it, I saw it at E3 and I maybe played it for like five minutes and never really played it after that. So I'm not really familiar with how it ended up."[5]Ed Boon later recalled: "I didn't work on Special Forces. The game and project were riddled with all kinds of problems. I could write a book on that."[6]
Reception
Blake Fischer reviewed the game for Next Generation, rating it one star out of five, and stated that "Don't let the cheap price fool you. This isn't even worth a trip to the store."[7]
As of 2014, it has a very low averaged review score of only 28/100 at Metacritic, including ratings of 2.1/10 from GameSpot and 3/10 from IGN.[8]
Of all the Mortal Kombat games, Special Forces is considered by some to be the worst.[9] Its sales were so low that Midway placed the series on hold in preparation for Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002). Ed Boon himself stated: "The game had a pretty bumpy development ride and the game didn't turn out very good at all."[10] In 2011, GamesRadar ranked it as the second most absurd Mortal Kombat offshoot (behind only Mortal Kombat: Live Tour).[11] In 2013, GamesRadar also ranked it as the 41st worst game ever made.[12]
Conversely, some of the reviews have been more positive. Video Games: The Ultimate Guide gave the game 7 out of 10,[13]GameVortex gave it 79%,[14] and Electric Playground scored it 7 out of 10.[15] Argentine magazine Next Level gave the game 72%, criticizing the lack of save feature in between sub-worlds, but stated the limitation is compensated by the low AI of the enemies.[16]

What are your favourite comics anyway?
Oh! Oh! Oh! Okay. Full disclaimer. We’re going for what comics I re-read over and over again. Are these comics...good? Eh. Are they bad? No, I don’t think so. Some were meh to wow! when first released that time has either been kinder or harsher to, but I don’t think I have a series or a run or a title which is I like which is like... hot guilty garbage. Though, of course, feel free to disagree. There are some authors on here which people will not want to touch with a barge pole, and I totally understand and encourage not touching them if you don’t want to.
Having said that, here are my favourite popcorn comics (largely Titans and Batfam because I am... basic):
The Flash (2016) issues 39-45 + Annual #1
Having said that, Flash time first. People think Williamson is a real hit or miss writer and I do agree, but I think this whole arc is one big hit. It’s frantic in its energy, I love Gorilla Grodd as a villain, I love the modern Flashfam trying to help, I love how Wally coming in to help totally turns the tide and the mood. I love how everyone looks at Wally like… this guys is powerful, more powerful than any other speedster… but also noting there’s something very fragile about him. I didn’t include Flash War in this because I’m still waiting for the payoff for that angst regarding Wally, but this arc… mwah. Wallace Rudolph West being vindicated as the greatest Flash (whilst allowing Barry to be flawed and to lead his family)? Yes please. Also I love Carmine’s art. I gather it’s hit and miss for some folk but I love the line work. Also Carlos D’Anda’s issue (come baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack draw Dick and Roy again your work has gotten so much cuter this past decade) is a beauty too. Big ol’ eyes.
Tumblr media
(Under the cut ‘cause this is LONG)
Batman Dark Victory
One of two Loeb stories for me. And yeah sure Long Halloween is objectively better but…jelly bean
Tumblr media
Also, angry traumatised Dick smacking a dying man with a stick. What a legend.
Tumblr media
Gates of Gotham
Cass! Damian! Dick!Bats! Tim! A mystery villain! World building for Gotham! Stuff exploding! Batfam banter! Trevor McCarthy art! This bizarre panel of Jim Gordon holding Tim’s hand like he’s checking the time?
Tumblr media
It’s one of the last ‘pure’ Batman stories before the reboot – Bat Inc aside – so it’s how I like to read the Batfam’s relationship by the end of that universe. Everyone’s a lot more content, proud Dad Bruce, happy and settled Dick and Damian, Cassandra returning home, Tim chopping off the emo hair… it’s all good.
Grayson (particularly #5)
I know why people can’t stand it. The circumstances leading up to it are bog awful. Opinions on Tom King’s writing has only grown more spliced with time. The (sex) jokes are too on the nose and hit too close to home for many. The cheesecake art is too stilted for some. But! Issue #5 is my favourite single issue story. Ever. You never have thought boxes in this series, because everyone is lying, but you aren’t told when. You never know how genuine Dick is being at any given moment, until it is just him and the baby. I love how single-minded it allows him to be. I love how he flat out lies and manipulates to protect that little girl, whilst also caring for Helena. About how seriously he takes his job of protecting Bruce and his family (and that’s why he’s even doing the stupid spy thing in the first place). And maaaaybe it’s unrealistic that Dick could outlast Midnighter crossing the desert, but screw it. Bruce can be better than metahumans all the time. Let Dick get an issue to be so to. Saving a little girl who is probably going to grow up to be akin to Superwoman. Just because he’s given himself that responsibility. He’s going to double cross twenty groups at the same time and come out clean as a whistle. And he’ll cross a desert with a newborn to do it.
Tumblr media
Light of my fricking life.
Infinite Crisis
I…I like that things go boom. John’s is very good for that. Also, the Nightwing and Batman moments howowheheheheheheeeeeeee. Almost wish Bruce had shot Alexander. I wonder what would have happened?
Tumblr media
(Brief side note: Graphic Audio’s adaptation of this is great fun. I dropped a bowl of cereal at the part of Superboy Prime versus the Titans. Cassie’s scream when Pantha’s head got punched off was a bit…intense. The No Man’s Land one is very good too if you have cash to burn - the voice actors are the same in both and Nightwing’s voice actor has this lisp and I don’t know man... I love it. He’s now the voice in my head for Dick).
Titans/JLA and The Titans (1999) issues 1-25
The Titans are now known I think for not being a very proactive hero group. Books struggle with balancing team dynamics versus plot, and this one is no exception. I know people don’t want to touch Devin Grayson’s stuff with a barge pole. My justification for this is flimsy I accept that, however, the JLA/Titans comic was the very first comic I read when I was like six or seven. I was rummaging through my brother’s room as a nosy kid does and this was at the top of his pile. Thank god for the little info boxes as each Titan was captured/referenced. I fell in love with Kory, I fell in love with Dick, I fell in love with Donna (oh Donna…) and then I tumbled down a hole and pretended I hadn’t until about six years ago. So that’s nice. So yes, this one is one hundred percent nostalgia based.
But honestly, Linkara did a retrospective on this event comic and series years ago, and his reasons for loving it are the same as mine really, so go watch those if you have like five hours to kill. When Devin leaves the comic remains strong for just a moment then... absolutely plummets off a cliff. So I really wouldn’t bother with the second half of the series but hey. You do you.
Tumblr media
Teen Titans/Outsiders: The Insiders
More Geoff John’s explosions. My first comic that got bought for me. My brother walked in to the shop and said: “I need a comic for my sister where Starfire gets a good showing” and the men went… ah yes.
Tumblr media
Eleven-year old me was like EXPLOSIONSSSSS but also was intrigued by Kory and Dick’s bedtime convos (perhaps…I was a bit under the age bracket for this book - Kory gets a good showing huh?) but uh. Anyway. Also this is when I was thoroughly enamoured with Roy. This crossover is typical Winnick and John’s angsty angst with overly poetic narration and tropey tropes which, combined with what came before and what was to come for the Outsiders, can make both series such a slog to get through, but in isolation, I think it’s a real fun crossover which gave everyone a bit of time to shine and some real fan-ficcy moments (very self-indulgent, and I love that in a comic).
Tumblr media
Teen Titans: Year One
I love Amy Wolfram and I love Karl Kerschel. It’s a good intro to those five characters with cute stories. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Batman is demonstrably a major prick in this, even after de-brainwashing, so it’s obviously going with the ‘Dick is only half as functioning as he is thanks to Roy, Wally, Garth and Donna’, which I can get behind 100% depending on what story they are trying to tell, but it’s just… it’s still sad to read. I just think the art is brilliant at giving each of the five very clear characteristics just from their body language, and you know immediately what each character dynamic is like with another.
Tumblr media
Batman Hush
The other Loeb story. Again, it has what I like in a Batman story. A mystery, the family, appearances of villains, flashbacks and brooding, fighting, Jim Lee’s Nightwing being hunky… Ahem. It’s a fun read I think. Also, I really like Loeb’s Bruce? I don’t think people talk about it much. But he’s really chatty in his own head. And he’s witty and dry and funny. I like that! Also, Babs is such a backbone of this story. I adore that. She’s treated well here, I think.
Tumblr media
Black Mirror
I flipping love this arc. I love it. I love the two contrasting but deeply disturbing in different manner art styles, I love the mystery, I love Babs role in the story, I love Tim’s little appearances and the banter with Dick, I love the weird villains and the terrifying ones, and how you think one is one of the two only to be revealed to be the other or both. I love Dick’s investigation and how he goes about it differently to Bruce. I love Dick’s relationship with Jim, I love the flipping reference to the vultures and owls seemingly following Dick (a whole reboot before Snyder got to tell that story), I love the monologue about how James thinks Dick is weird and weak for his compassion and love, when really that’s his greatest strength, I love Jim wanting so hard to believe James is trying against Babs’s cynicism, but also does try to get an unbiased opinion of someone who is proven good at reading people (Dick) and does what he needs to when his son is actively harming people, I love that ambiguous ending and the questionable science, I even love the Joker’s one (1) scene with Dick. I love this line,
Tumblr media
I love Snyder at his best. When he’s good…mwah. Great.
…And yeah. That’s my story.

To put it simply, Inumaki loved the movie theatre. Not only because he loved movies, but also because he could participate in a normal social gathering without his inability to speak freely being an issue. Usually, though, he came along with his friends to spend some quality time, but this time around they were all busy and he wasn't about to miss the first showing of the newest installment of his favorite movie franchise. Coincidentally, you had made plans to go with your friends as well, considering you were a big fan of it, but some last-minute issues led to you being the only one to show up. To put it frankly you were quite bummed about not being able to have fun with your friends, but they insisted you didn't miss it on their account. So there you were, sitting by yourself in the crowded theatre while snacking away to pass the time, silently glad that the seat next to you remained empty despite the high turnout. That was until you saw a platinum blonde guy making his way down your line before looking down at his ticket and then at the number of the seat next to yours. You smiled at him kindly as a hello and he nodded back, the way he had his mouth covered by his sweatshirt catching your attention as he took a seat beside you. It was kind of awkward for the both of you, being in the middle of a bunch of different groups of all sizes that talked amongst themselves while you just sat there quietly. "So uh, you're a fan of the franchise too?" You asked in an attempt to make the wait less boring as you tugged at the end of your hoodie. Inumaki turned to meet your gaze with surprise written all over his eyes, slowing thickly under his shirt as he thought of a way of communicating without putting in danger the kind and intriguing stranger that you were in his eyes. Considering you were oblivious to his predicament, you two were lucky that the lights dimmed right at that time, making the theatre fall silent.
However, Inumaki knew that if anything, the nearly socially imposed silence was his golden opportunity to talk to you the best way he knew how, through his phone. Whipping the device out of his pocket as he dimmed the screen to the max, you just eyed the blonde as he pulled out the notes app, quickly writing something before turning the screen to you. 'Yup, they're my favorite movies by far :) What about you?' Once you read the text you smiled, your features illuminated by the soft glow of the phone and the advertisement playing on the movie screen Toge's heart beat a little faster. You took your phone out in response, typing out a reply in your own notes; 'They're my favorite too! :o Which one's your favorite?' Though you couldn't see his mouth you could tell he was smiling just from his eyes, and so, with long-forgotten ads playing in the background you two got to know each other through the notes app out of all things. Time flew by, and by the time the movie was starting neither of you wanted the conversation to end, but after giving him one last smile you directed your attention back to the movie. That was, until ten minutes later when Inumaki nudged you slightly and showed you his phone. After you read his little comment, the written movie discussion that followed was pretty much unavoidable. So, you spent the rest of the movie commenting everything with the stranger beside you, enduring the glances from strangers at you guy's sudden laughing fits sparked by your compatible sense of humor. Who knew sitting next to a stranger could lead to having such a great time? However, by the end of the movie, it dawned on you that you had no idea what the mystery boy's name was or what he sounded like. So once the lights were back on and everyone started leaving you finally locked your now quite hot phone. "That was epic," you exclaimed while stretching a bit and turning to look at him, "right- uh- wait I don't think we've actually introduced each other." You followed your comment by a chuckle that he quickly reciprocated, though he started getting nervous by the second. "I'm (y/n), and you are..?" You tried again, now slightly more aware of the silence. "Inumaki," he said, relieved to both know who you were and being able to say something in return because although he loved movies and the silence they demanded, he realized he liked watching them more with you.
