National Mushroom Day
With so many different varieties, these little fungi are a fantastic source of nutrients and add a delicious umami flavor to any dish.
With more than 14,000 different species of mushrooms that grow around the world, the mushroom is an unassuming food that should be more carefully considered on National Mushroom Day!
History of National Mushroom Day
Not only do mushrooms offer a delicious flavor when eaten on their own or added to various dishes, they are also one of the most sustainably produced foods on the planet. So no one needs to feel guilty about filling up on them!
Plus, mushrooms are low in calories and contain a wide variety of nutritious substances that are part of a healthy and balanced diet for humans. So eat a lot of mushrooms and eat them often!
Originating in Australia, National Mushroom Day is particularly meant for mushroom farmers, restaurants, cafes and health professionals to enjoy and celebrate everything related to growing and eating mushrooms. Now is the best time to learn about mushrooms and eat mushrooms – a food that is certainly worth celebrating!
How to Celebrate National Mushroom Day
The celebration and enjoyment of National Mushroom Day comes along with eating them and raising awareness for the benefits to the people as well as to the earth. Consider implementing some of these interesting ideas in making plans to celebrate the day:
Enjoy Eating Mushrooms
In honor of National Mushroom Day, the first order of business is to buy and eat some mushrooms! Add them to a salad, make them into a creamy soup, saute them, put them on a burger, steam them in the microwave, or stuff the caps of larger mushrooms. The options are almost endless when it comes to different ways to prepare and enjoy eating mushrooms!
Get a Health Boost with Mushrooms
While they might look a bit bland, mushrooms are chock full of healthy nutrients that can build into an already balanced diet. Depending on the type of mushrooms, they can bring a variety of different benefits to the diet, including:
Mushrooms contain important minerals. Containing amounts of selenium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and thiamine, mushrooms offer a rich source of healthy, necessary minerals for the diet.
Mushrooms are low in calories. Enjoying a handful of mushrooms is no problem, even for those who are trying to count their calories. Of course, it depends on the particular variety, but one cup of crimini mushrooms contains only 15 calories, which is hardly even noticeable in the grand scheme of things!
Mushrooms are anti-inflammatory. Because mushrooms have been shown to help the body fight off inflammation, these little gems are believed to be helpful in promoting a strong and effective immune system. In fact, researchers have shown that, when people eat mushrooms, microphages are stimulated which help reduce susceptibility to various illnesses.
Mushrooms can help lower the blood pressure. As a source of potassium, mushrooms offer the capacity to keep the cardiovascular system healthier. Potassium is known to reduce blood vessel tension and therefore lower the blood pressure.
Learn Fun Facts About Mushrooms
In honor of National Mushroom Day, celebrate by learning a few bits of information about this little food and share it with someone else to raise awareness for the day. Start with some of these fun facts:
Even though mushrooms don’t need light to grow and are very capable of growing in the dark, they do produce Vitamin D when they are exposed to ultraviolet light during the growing process.
Because they are grown indoors, mushrooms have a growing cycle that is year-round. And because they are not affected by the weather, mushrooms can be grown in all 50 of the United States as well as all over the world.
Some mushrooms can glow in the dark! At least eighty different species of mushrooms are able to glow in the dark, and some are so bright that they have earned the nickname “electric mushrooms”.
Mushrooms can help people stay young. With high amounts of certain types of antioxidants (ergothioneine and glutathione), mushrooms fight off free radicals and arm the body with the ability to reduce the occurrence of age related diseases and illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Cook With Mushrooms
In general, mushrooms are affordable, healthy and low in calories. Plus, they can be a super versatile way to get creative with cooking meals. Consider some of these ideas when it comes to adding mushrooms to various styles of cooking:
Put chopped fresh mushrooms on pizza as a delicious topping. Choose meatless pizza with dairy-free cheese to make the meal more vegetarian and vegan-friendly.
Add mushrooms to stir-fry. One delicious way to eat mushrooms, especially for kids who might not be ready for their strong flavor or texture, is to combine them with a variety of other vegetables in a Chinese style stir fry meal. Include with carrots, celery, snap peas, broccoli and tofu with some delicious soy sauce.
Eat mushrooms for breakfast. Mushrooms make a delicious addition to breakfast food. Saute some to serve with scrambled eggs, or chop some fresh mushrooms and put them into an omelet.
Mushrooms can be made into a delicious cream sauce that can be used in all sorts of ways. Try using it as the center of a ravioli. Pour it over rigatoni pasta. Make it into a mushroom soup. Serve it with steak and potatoes, and more.
Go Mushroom Picking
In honor of National Mushroom Day, schedule a time to go mushroom picking! This is a hobby that used to be a regular occurrence but is now a bit less common. Still, in certain areas of the world, mushroom picking remains a delightful outdoor activity that can bring loads of family fun! However, it is important to be careful and to go with someone who knows what they are doing because it’s easy to mistake poisonous mushrooms for edible ones.
So be sure to stay safe and don’t just pick and eat random mushrooms that are found in the forest without checking their viability with an expert first. Some parks or forest areas might even offer mushroom picking tours so people can learn in real life while enjoying the activity.

Traveling Through Wine Country in Napa Valley
Located just north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is one of the world's most well-known wine regions. Napa Valley has gained popularity among travelers and wine lovers for its stunning scenery, outstanding wineries, and quaint small towns. Exploring this verdant valley on a tour provides an exceptional chance to learn about its fascinating past, savor fine wines, and savor gourmet food while taking in the breathtaking views of the Californian countryside.
A trip to Napa Valley is a sensory experience that goes beyond the wine, regardless of your level of expertise with wine. This premier wine region offers something for everyone, from beautiful drives and culinary adventures to vineyard tours and tastings.
Tumblr media
A Review of Napa Valley's History
Originally an agricultural region, Napa Valley had modest beginnings before becoming synonymous with fine wine. The region was once home to Native American tribes, and in the late 1700s, Spanish missionaries started to settle there. Due to its Mediterranean climate and rich soil, the valley was discovered by settlers in the middle of the 1800s as a potential grape-growing region.
Charles Krug Winery was the first commercial winery in Napa Valley, having opened its doors in 1861. Over 140 wineries were in operation in the area by the end of the 1800s. Prohibition, which forced many wineries to close, and the phylloxera epidemic, which destroyed vineyards, were two of the industry's setbacks.
Pioneers such as Robert Mondavi played a major role in the 1960s and 70s wine industry rebound in Napa Valley. The region gained international acclaim in 1976 during the “Judgment of Paris,” a blind wine-tasting competition where Napa Valley wines outperformed top French wines. This triumph enhanced Napa's standing as a premier wine-producing area.
Organizing Your Tour of the Napa Valley
It is essential to plan to get the most out of your tour of Napa Valley. There are a tonne of options, including more than 400 wineries, various lodging options, and tonnes of things to do. To assist you in creating the ideal Napa Valley experience, consider the following advice:
1. Select the Time of Your Visit
Although Napa Valley is open all year round, your experience may differ greatly depending on the season. Late spring to early autumn is the busiest time of year for tourists, with September and October being especially busy because of the harvest season, or 'crush'. You can observe the grape-picking procedure during this time and take in the lively, energetic ambiance of the wineries. But this also translates into more expensive and packed venues.
Go there in the winter or early spring if you want a more sedate and peaceful experience. The valley is still lovely with its verdant rolling hills and quaint tasting rooms during the cooler months when there are fewer tourists. In addition, during the off-season, a lot of wineries run unique promotions.
2.Consider Your Wineries
Selecting which of the hundreds of wineries to visit can be a difficult undertaking. Think about the kind of experience you want and the wines you prefer—white, sparkling, or red. While some wineries offer large, social settings with food pairings or entertainment, others concentrate on small, educational tastings.
Here are a few exceptional wineries to check out:
Amorosa Castle: With its breathtaking architecture and atmospheric medieval atmosphere, this 13th-century-style Tuscan castle provides an unforgettable experience. The winery is well-known for its Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Carneros Domain:Domaine Carneros is a must-see if you prefer sparkling wine. This winery is perfect for an opulent, leisurely tasting because of its reputation for fine sparkling wines and picturesque surroundings.
vineyard Mondavi Winery:Robert Mondavi, a historic winery that was crucial to Napa's ascent to prominence, provides informative tours that explore the region's winemaking history.
The Opus, which One: Opus One offers private tastings of its renowned Bordeaux-style blends for a posh, exclusive experience.
Reservations are often required for tours and tastings, especially at the busier wineries. To guarantee your place and a seamless visit, it is best to make reservations in advance.
3. Check Previous Wineries
Napa Valley is known for wine tasting, but the area is home to more than just vineyards. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the valley's offerings, think about including a few of these activities in your tour:
Beautiful Drives: With its winding roads, rolling hills, and endless vineyards, Napa Valley is a breathtaking destination to explore by vehicle. A particularly picturesque route that provides access to numerous excellent wineries and breathtaking views is the Silverado Trail.
Rides in Hot Air Balloons: Consider flying over the valley in a hot air balloon for a truly unique experience. It's a serene, breathtaking experience to watch the sunrise while floating above the vineyards. This viewpoint of the surroundings is unmatched.
Wine Encourage:Travelers can enjoy a leisurely ride through the vineyards on the historic Napa Valley Wine Train, which runs through the valley. It's a unique way to see the area since guests can savor fine dining and wine tastings on historic train cars.
Gourmet Treats: The food scene in Napa Valley is flourishing, with a large number of farm-to-table establishments and restaurants with Michelin stars. Make sure to check out the handcrafted cheeses, chocolates, and other gourmet delicacies available at local food markets like Oxbow Public Market.
4. Spend the Night in the Napa Valley
If you want to experience Napa Valley to the fullest, spend the night at one of the many lodging options available. You can choose from a variety of accommodations, including opulent resorts and quaint bed & breakfasts, to find something that fits both your needs and your budget.
Popular places to stay are:
Napa: Napa, the biggest town in the valley, has a range of lodging options, from luxurious hotels to quaint inns. It's a fantastic starting point for those who enjoy fine dining because it has some of the greatest restaurants in the area.
The Yountville: Known for its fine dining options, which include the renowned French Laundry, Yountville is a charming little town that's ideal for a romantic trip.
California: Calistoga, renowned for its spas and hot springs, is the perfect spot to unwind and refresh following a day of wine tasting. In addition, the town has rustic lodging options and quaint boutique hotels.
How to Make Your Tour Memorable
Here are some more suggestions to make your tour of Napa Valley pleasurable and hassle-free:
Take It Slowly: It can be overwhelming to taste wine, particularly if you visit several wineries in one day. To prevent palate fatigue, pace yourself, sip lots of water, and take breaks in between tastings.
Employ a Driver: With so many excellent wines to sample, you might want to think about taking a guided tour or hiring a driver to take care of your transportation needs. In this manner, you won't need a designated driver and can instead unwind and enjoy the event.
Put on comfortable clothing:Although most of the wineries and restaurants in Napa Valley have a more laid-back dress code, some may have one. It's advised to dress comfortably and stylishly, especially since you'll probably be strolling past tasting rooms and vineyards.

Napa Valley provides travelers and wine enthusiasts with an unmatched experience, whether they're indulging in gourmet meals, riding leisurely through the vineyards, or savoring robust Cabernet Sauvignons. Pinot Meunier

Merlot-Me
I have so many thoughts about this wine. First of all, what’s your favorite California Merlot? Oh sure, Three Palms and Oakville and Suscol Ranch and various Carneros spots will take the hit, plus a few others will make mention, but Monterey? Secondly, I think Arroyo Seco is wasted on Chardonnay-plaudits–just like Carneros. But is Arroyo Seco clay? Don’t care: it makes amazing wines of almost ANY…

National White Wine Day
Sipping on that chilled, light and refreshing beverage is like a delightful escape to a relaxing oasis. Cheers to good times!
There is a positive rainbow of wines in the world, but none so sweet and fair as those that are deemed white. Make no mistake, white wines are rarely if ever truly white in color, but instead are beautiful varieties of straw-yellow, gold, or yellow-green. National White Wine Day was created to help celebrate this wine that stands out from all others.
Learn about National White Wine Day
National White Wine Day has been created so that we can pay tribute to this amazing alcoholic beverage. For many years, white wine has been the choice of drink for so many people. From Pinot Grigio to Chardonnay; there are so many different varieties to choose from. Whether you enjoy a glass of wine on an evening in front of the tea or you enjoy pairing different types of wine with your meals; this is a day for you to indulge in white wine and not feel guilty about it!
History of National White Wine Day
The earliest evidence we have of wine indicates that it was being made as early as 7500 years ago in what is now Iran. We are fairly certain that the birth of wine dates a good long while before this, but no archaeological evidence has been able to determine precisely when. What we do know is that ever since its creation it has held a place of high esteem in society, being used in holy rituals and traded among the noble and wealthy. It has been deemed a gift worthy of Kings and Queens, and its vintages have been hoarded in dark cool places like ancient treasures.
White wine comprises the largest percentage of wines made in Germany and Switzerland, and the northern half of France is also known for its broad variety of white wines. They are considered to be some of the most delicious wines and are often paired with fish. In Catalonia, in fact, there is a special sort of white wine known as Cava, and champagne itself is truly a sparkling white wine that is only produced in the Champagne province of France. National White Wine Day celebrates the antiquity of this golden wine and encourages us all to appreciate it throughout the year.
Of course, Champagne is the most well-known form of white wine, and it has been around for many years now. There have been vineyards in the Champagne region since the beginning of our era and it was the Romans that actually introduced grape-growing here. They identified the uniqueness of the soil in the area, which comes from the sloping landscape, chalky subsoil and oceanic climate. Nevertheless, champagne as we know it did not appear until the 17th century, prior to this the vineyards were used to produce both rose and red wines.
During the 17th century people began to master the natural effervescence of the local wine. Champagne was the wine of the Kings during this period and it is still associated with luxury and extravagance today, although you don’t have to be a royal to drink it. In the 19th century champagne houses were booming and this drink spread to the aristocratic elite. It hasn’t even been one hundred years since individuals of all classes began to enjoy the drink, as Champagne mania reached a more diverse crowd from 1945 onwards.
How to celebrate National White Wine Day
The best way to celebrate National White Wine Day is to get together with your friends and gather together your favorite vintages of white wine. Once you’ve got all the ones you’re familiar with, why not get a few more so that you can broaden your palette. Have a friend who loves wine? Why not surprise them with a bottle to enjoy? While you’re at it, research the best pairings for white wine and prepare an entire meal centered around them, and don’t forget dessert! National White Wine Day is the kind of day we celebrate all year long!
