It genuinely infuriates me when commentators and journos only mention the negative parts of Joe's time spent as captain. I could go on for hours about how much I hate it. Hours. Anyway 😊

Head has been selected as vice captain, and Pakistan will field two debutants
Tumblr media
In Wednesday’s announcement of a playing eleven, captain Pat Cummins stated that Head had been added as a deputy, joining Steve Smith.
In light of the future, Australia’s selectors reappointed Travis Head as vice captain of the Test team on Wednesday. Pakistan, meanwhile, chose two rookies for the opening match in Perth.
In a single alteration from their previous Test match against England at the Oval in July, captain Pat Cummins announced the addition of Head as a deputy alongside Steve Smith.
After that, Todd Murphy will lose his spot to the fit-again veteran spinner Nathan Lyon, who is four wickets away from being a member of the exclusive 500 club.
In what is probably going to be his final Test series, David Warner will start the batting. After a weak performance, he is being closely watched, with many questioning if he should be on the team.
Usman Khawaja, the opening partner, has also gained attention after he tweeted that he will be wearing shoes for the game on Thursday, along with comments that highlighted the situation of the people in Gaza. Now that the International Cricket Council has banned any messages pertaining to politics, religion, or race during matches, it seems unlikely that would occur.
On the eve of the first of three Tests, Cummins told media, “I spoke to him just quickly and he said he won’t be.”
Former Test vice-captain with Cummins under Tim Paine, the well-liked 29-year-old Head has since cemented himself in the team.
“We felt it was a good time to formally recognize that because he’s been a leader in our group for a long time,” said Cummins.
Although neither Cummins nor the 34-year-old Smith have any immediate plans to step down, the captain stated, “I dare say I’m not going to captain forever and Steve is not going to play forever.” Therefore, we believe it is our duty to provide the team with future-proofing and to provide other leaders with opportunity.
In the twelve Test series that Pakistan has toured Australia, it has not emerged victorious.
The most recent captain to try, Shan Masood, included pacemen Aamer Jamal and Khurram Shahzad in his starting lineup to support Shaheen Shah Afridi’s attack.
Prior to Mohammad Rizwan, former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was chosen as the first-choice wicketkeeper.
Masood stated, “As a squad, we talk about adaptability—how quickly can guys adapt to diverse conditions—whether we play in Canberra, Karachi, or Perth.
For me, that is the most crucial thing. Skilled cricket players are always flexible.

My favourite things about the whole OceanGate disaster, in no particular order
That the vessel was originally named Cyclops II but the CEO renamed it to Titan, so it’s even BETTER than the Titanic
He also called it indestructible
The guy piloting the vessel is an ex-naval captain who has been on several titanic manned trips. But the guy is 77 rn
The billionaire from Pakistan is apparently friends with King Charles. You’d think for someone who’s besties with a guy whose job was literally being born, he’d care more about protecting his bloodline. Instead, he brought his 19 year old with him
Meanwhile, the stepson of one of the other billionaires (I think the British one named Hamish) went to a Blink 182 concert. When questioned about this, he basically went “my family would want me to go to the concert”. Today, minutes after posting about asking for thoughts and prayers, he @‘ed an OF model on Twitter, asking her to sit on his face
Bc it’s part of the safety demo & music track list for the trip, there is a VERY good chance that if there’s still some power left in the sub, it’s playing an instrumental of My Heart Will Go On on loop
Also, the vessel is a submersible bc it doesn’t meet literally any of the safety regulations to be called a submarine. Which the CEO knew, because he’s blatantly said that safety regulations get in the way of progress
The CEO once stated that he thought the future of humanity was not in space, but in the ocean when the surface becomes uninhabitable
Apparently the controller he’s using has REAL bad reviews because the connection always fails
These idiots paid $250k EACH but they had to pack their own lunch. Not even a damn charcuterie board
The pilot’s seat is on the toilet. So whenever someone needs to go, the pilot needs to move
There’s 1 window looking out. That’s it
It’s about the size of a minivan
The sub uses texts (but only to the CEO’s phone) to communicate, as well as StarLink, but they can only access that if they surface
The door literally cannot be opened from inside
There is a decent chance that at least 1 person has been cannibalized (my bet was the pilot since he’s not rich, but bc of the banging sounds, he’s probs not dead, so it may be the CEO)
They’re supposed to run out of oxygen tomorrow (22/06/23) at 7 am est, but tbh, the CO2 scrubber system will probs fail before that
The toilet is a plastic bag
This is only the 3rd time in 3 years the vessel has gone to the Titanic. Every other time, there’s an issue and they gotta turn back within like 4 hours
A lot of major news networks are trying to remain positive, but it’s a HILARIOUS comparison when you go to social media and every single person is like “yeah that shit is built like a cardboard boat, they’re fucked”
The company’s name is literally called OceanGate

Ian Chappell Blunt Dig at the Resignation of Babar Azam as Team Pakistan Captain
Last week, the captain of Pakistan, Babar Azam, stepped down as captain of the national team across all three formats of the game. His decision came shortly after the side's disappointing exit from the 2023 World Cup, where it finished fifth. Pakistan faced defeats to arch-rivals India as well as Afghanistan, while facing narrow losses to South Africa and eventual champions Australia as well. While his successor in ODIs is yet to be announced, Shaheen Afridi will now lead Pakistan in T20Is, while Shan Masood was named the skipper in Tests.
Tumblr media
Ahead of the series, former Australia batter Ian Chappell spoke about Babar stepping down as captain and made an interesting remark on Pakistan cricket; the former Aussie skipper stated that it is “typical” of Pakistan to keep changing captains.
Chappell said, "Yeah, that’s a pity; I think Babar’s a very good player. He’s not leaving the Pakistan side, and maybe they can find a better captain. But it’s typical of Pakistan; they change captains frequently.” Babar is a part of the Pakistan Test squad for the Australia tour, but Chappell believes the visitors face a herculean task when they land down under.
He also said, “The problem with Pakistan is they don’t have a great record in Australia, even when they had good sides who could bat and bowl. They’ve got some good quickies at the moment, but the bounce of Australian pitches has always troubled them.”
