What do you think about Cerise in season 6?

For those not up to date on canon, Cerise is Lila's new name. As far as we know, it is just another fake identity. Her real name is still not know. Where she came from is still not known. Her motivations are still not known. For the sake of saving us all a headache, I'm just going to keep calling her Lila.

I'm writing this post after four five season six episodes have aired (episodes 2 thru 5 plus 11 to be specific). I haven't watched these episodes, but I did read the transcripts that are out on the wiki and I've picked up on details second hand from the few fandom blogs I follow. From everything I've heard, read, and seen, civilian Lila isn't really in season six? She makes brief cameos where she's scribbling in a notebook and saying vague threatening lines, but she doesn't interact with anyone or tell us anything about new her character. Almost all of her screen time goes to Chrysalis, her villain form. I like the way Chrysalis is written. She feels more manipulative than Gabriel which makes her feel more interesting:

Chrysalis: Hello, Maya. Forgive my intrusion, but, I seem to feel a huge disappointment. No one's interested in your drawings when they're so pretty! Do you feel ignored? Like no one sees you? Maya: Yes. It's no fair! Chrysalis: I think I know what would be fitting. For no one to be able to ignore your drawings anymore. I can give you this power. Only if you agree, of course. Maya: Yes! (stands up) Chrysalis: And what should I call you? Maya: The Illustrhater!

But her being more interesting is just an illusion. Nothing meaningful has changed. Gabriel's tactics got the job done so who cares if Lila is a little better at manipulating people? She could have Gabriel's skills and nothing about season six would change. Her tactics aren't leading to better akumas so who cares if she sounds cooler and won't tell people her name?

Yeah, that's apparently a thing in season six. Lila is being a little smarter about her identity than Gabriel was. The Illustrhater has Marinette acting like this is a big deal:

Marinette: Nothing! We know nothing! It's even worse than before! Alya: (yawning briefly) Is that so bad? I mean, we didn't know a lot about Monarch either, but he still got busted. Marinette: That's not true! We know lots of things about Monarch! He was an adult male, he akumatized 212 people in total, 99.8 percent of them in Paris. His goal was to seize Cat Noir's and my Miraculous so he'd be granted one wish. Now we have a supervillain we know nothing about, who akumatizes whomever, whenever, and who knows why! This is a disaster!

But when you get down to it, none of this ever mattered. Marinette's limited knowledge didn't lead to Gabriel's identity being outed. Gabriel's identity was outed by shear dumb luck and someone else handing Marinette the answers, so this isn't a case where Marinette has to come up with new tactics to find the villain because her old tactics no longer work. She never had any tactics to begin with!

Tracking down the butterfly would be new behavior for her character so I don't care that Chrysalis is "better hidden." It's not selling me on watching the show. Chrysalis' name being unknown just feels like an indicator of how little the writers had to work with to make her feel more threatening. There's basically nothing the writers can do to actually make her a bigger villain and so they're left with meaningless displays that the characters have to directly say are big deal to try and make the audience think that Lila is a bigger threat.

They can't just make her a bigger threat by having her do something new because Gabriel was willing to do anything to win. That makes it almost impossible for Lila to be an upgrade. What's she going to do, threaten Adrien? Akumatize Adrien? Try to akumatize Marinette? Try to break up Adrienette? Oh no! How evil! We definitely haven't seen that before...

It's not even like her tactics are harder to resist. Episode four already featured an akuma rejection:

Chrysalis: Hello. Forgive my intrusion, but..I sense a great deal of guilt preventing you from making friends. Sabrina: NO!! (breaks the connection with Chrysalis, rejecting her akumatization, as the ultrakuma flew back out)

And, while the heroes don't know this for sure, the audience already knows that Chrysalis is once again after the ladybug and the black cat because of course she is:

Chrysalis: On the other hand, if you give me Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous, I'll let you keep it... forever!

Remind me, why should I care that she replaced Gabriel?

Outside of that, I think it's kind of telling that civilian Lila is barely in the show even though she's the big bad. The writers never knew how to write her well and so going the route of keeping her off screen is probably the only way to play her. I'm curious how many episodes will see her civilian form interact with so much as a single member of the main cast. My guess is not many. Get ready for a boat load of delaying tactics where the show tries to make things feel important while maintaining the status quo and keeping everything about Lila a secret.

Her character's motivation not being known worked when she first showed up, but now? It just feels like the writers don't know what they're doing. Sure, season six is a soft reboot, but it's still season six and she's been here since season one. We should know her goals by now! Hinting that she's planning something without ever giving those hints any substance just screams, "there's no actual substance! Gabriel was the better villain!"

Cerise (voiceover): Nothing. Nothing! You'll know nothing about me, about us, about them. I'm everywhere. I'm nowhere! I'm a chameleon. Nowhere! You won't get anywhere...

Sure, babe. Sure. You're super threatening and totally not just a knockoff Gabriel. I'm sure your motivations will blow us out of the water once they're revealed. After all, the reveal of your three mothers was just so amazing! Best writing in the show by far! (that was sarcasm)

Only thing that could kind of fix this is if Lila got a team or larger organization she was working with, but I'd be really disappointed if that's where the show is going. Once again, it's season six and she's been here since season one! The time to set that kind of thing up was at least two seasons ago. Without so much as a hint that such a thing exists, the introduction of it would feel like the writers are just pulling shit out of their ass and that is not the kind of story I enjoy. All my favorite stories have clear evidence that the writers had a plan from day one and stuck to it, making something beautiful. I think it's abundantly clear that Miraculous will never be that kind of story.

Fun fact: by random luck, this post was originally scheduled for the 21st, the day episode 11 aired. I delayed it a day to see if civilian Lila finally interacted with someone or revealed her goals, giving me something to comment on. Surprising no one, she still isn't really in the show. Place your bets on how long it's going to be before civilian Lila gets a motivation or even just a chance to interact with the cast! My money is on late season six at the earliest.

(Feel free to let me know if I missed something about Lila's presence in season six. The transcripts aren't out for all the episodes so it's entirely possible that she's done something I don't know about. I just didn't want to make anon wait longer since this ask is already a month old.)

hi my babies, you will be wrapping up your 2025 in a big pile of success. It does not have to be on a grand, unrealistic scale but whatever success means to you, that’s how you’ll be wrapping up the year of 2025. This year you might be picking up a side business or a new creative venture and it will be picking up at a rapid speed and generate quick success. You’ll quickly start to monetize off of it, and by the end of the year this will be bringing in a steady, flow of income. It’ll happen very fast. This could be anything but I am picking up nails, or hair. For others this could be sewing, baking or culinary arts, and/or designing things. For others of you if you have a certain field you are already in but you’re doing it full time as an employee, you might start to freelance these services on the side for extra money and it’s going to take off really fast and bring you a steady flow of extra income. It may actually inspire you to go into business for yourself. For example if you are a web designer for a company, you may start to offer web designing services as a freelancer on the side and you’ll actually build a steady clientele and be able to eventually start a business and/or it’ll simply create a steady side income flow that helps you a lot with your daily life and expenses. Some of you are actually web designers for real, others I am seeing finance. Bookkeeping, accounting, and for a small few you guys are admin assistants and will have started a side virtual assistant business. For some this involves schooling or a certificate, once this is completed and it may be by the end of the year, you’ll end up finding a job VERY quickly in your desired field. For some, you might find a job in your desired field before you’ve even graduated and you’ll be wrapping up this year employed as fuck, go you! hehe ☺️🥰

For others this could be a relationship with someone new, that you met (I am getting online dating) and this relationship took off quickly or will take off quickly and bloom into a solid connection with promise of becoming something stable, and long term. Indicating that you’ll wrap up 2025 in a successful committed relationship. I had an urge to say marriage, so it may be that for some. I am picking up the song Chapel by Kehlani, so some of you will impulsively jump the broom and/or are thinking about it now, or will meet someone that wants to do that with you; you will agree to it or they will and that’s how you’ll wrap up 2025. It will be a success and no you won’t regret it. So if any of the things mentioned in this pile is what your current dilemma is, let this be the confirmation to do it. Or these things may come up in the year, this is letting you know when they do come up to not contemplate on it, just go for it because I am seeing that by the end of the year you’ll be swimming in success, and great outcomes. So you’ll be wrapping up 2025 free and on your own. It does not have to mean that you’re single but you will be no longer be attached to a certain community of people. This is done by choice. You could wrap up 2025 in a state that is no longer your hometown. I heard “finally”. Random side message but some of you might get a text message while reading this pile lol. Anyways, this move might have been a long time coming, but for some you were stuck in something or for whatever reason it took a while. This could be a community of friends, a hometown or a family. For some TRIGGER WARNING you could have gotten sexually assaulted or something of that nature and by the end of this year you’ll be in another state or will have completely abandoned this community that is involved or close to whoever may have harmed you. You’re going to simply pick up and go and start over. I don’t feel like this is running from your problems, you genuinely want to move away from toxicity and people that mean you no good. You are constantly being triggered in this environment and there could possibly be people who triangulate you in support of this abuser. You will literally never see or speak to these people again is what I’m picking up. Hell will completely freeze over before these mf’s hear from you. For some you may change your name or something personal, maybe your number. You’re going to clean your life up and live the life you want to live and heal. Kudos to you, it seems you’re breaking a cycle. You don’t have to stay around people just because they’re family or you’ve grown up somewhere. You have the right to go and heal, and leave horrible people to rot. A very specific message is some of you have a parent who passed away who should have cut the family off, but they didn’t. They may have wanted to move states but they didn’t. You will. They are proud, they are guiding you and they are protecting you the whole way through. Don’t worry about if the people you’re leaving behind will get there’s because trust they will be dealt with; you just focus on your healing, your safety, your comfort, your health, your glow up and your bag. Focus on your mental health as well.

For a very tiny small few in this pile by the end of the year your lover or romantic interest that you may be on the outs with will cut their toxic friend group off, or family off because they are serving as 3rd parties in the relationship and it’s affecting the relationship negatively and you’re literally not speaking to them or you’ve put your foot down or in some way have made it clear that you aren’t dealing with that shit. For others, you’ve met someone online or randomly and very early on something happened with a third party or a friend from a toxic friend group got involved and you quickly exited stage left and they realized very early that you don’t play that shit so they’ll be making the necessary changes and that’s how the year will be wrapped up. Someone’s last name could be Smith, or Scott. I’m picking up the song wacced out murals by Kendrick Lamar someone’s name could be Terrell, or this is your persons name, or someone here could be a Gemini, Scorpio sun or moon, or have a Pisces Moon. When this cut off happens this persons family or past toxic friends could throw a huge fit; they should completely ignore them, literally pay them dust and I’m seeing you and them will ignore them, this could be true for you too if this is you doing this for a partner and also for those I mentioned above that are leaving a toxic environment.

I am also getting that if it’s not this intense for a few of you, (because for most this is exactly what it is) — you’ll be doing this simply because it’s what your soul has yearned for since a child. Your spirit and personality naturally belongs in whatever direction or area/scene you’re into. I’m picking up the line “I didn’t choose this town, I dream of getting out” by Taylor Swift, you’re own your kid. So, this town, or area, or scene or lifestyle was a great fit for your parents not you. You were just born, you didn’t choose this specific state or lifestyle. For some of a small message I’m hearing is you may be gay/lesbian. Or queer. That may be significant because I’m seeing festivals and flags. But, you’ll wrap up this year free from things that didn’t serve you. It took a while to figure out the plan and muster up the strength to face these things alone but by the end of the year you can say that you fucking did it, you have a piece of mind, you stood your ground and stood in you truth and boundaries, knew your worth and added tax, and everyone else can quite literally go fuck themselves. ㅤhi my pile three babies, you will be wrapping up your 2025 in solitude going your own path in life. I am not particularly getting that you will be completely by yourself, as it could be you a very small circle, or just you and your partner or companion or whatever have you. This is more so your life path and where you will physically be. I was channeling Alice and wonderland painting the roses red, as well as a song called First Life by Kehlani. Specifically, a line called “and these skeletons keep haunting me, wishful thinking; that they’d go away, if I wish them bad, if i painted them red” referencing the Alice and wonderland allusion that i just mentioned. You could be wrapping this year up in a romantic situation that is very private between you and that person. No one could know that this situation or relationship exists. It could be very private, and also with a new person that is not related to your past or an ex. You also could be starting over in your life somehow, revising, and acting like certain things have never happened. I am channeling tattoo removal. So, some of you could be getting your tattoos removed by the end of this year or saving up for it, for some by the end of this year you’ll be covering up a tattoo of your ex’s name, or removing it if not just general tattoos. You may have skeletons in your closet, things you’ve done to others, things others have done to you, things in general that you’ve just done and are in a different headspace. I get the feeling of being dirty. This is not saying you are actually dirty; but you may feel dirty, you may wish you could scrub your thoughts, memories, and past away. Some of you may have bodies that you regret. For others, you may be deleting things off of your social media; I’m picking up old Facebook posts. Old remnants scattered around your social media that’s proof of the people you’ve dated like paragraphs to ex’s for their birthdays or anniversaries etc. You have this energy of wanting to completely scrub and wipe your slate clean and start over. This could be to be with someone or this is simply because your mind is in a different place, you see things and yourself more clearly, or for some you know the truth. This is how you’ll be wrapping up 2025 somewhere completely new and fresh from where you started, and in the process of and making progress towards cleaning up your life, especially your digital footprint. For those of you that won’t be dating anyone at all, this is still true for you however it’ll just be done alone and privately as I do pick up that’s what some of you are preferring right now. Also, for a small few of you, this is happening with someone you reconcile with, it’s that energy of just wishing everything in the past didn’t exist and you two start over and swipe it all clean. Some of you will be cleaning your credit up and you’ll be wrapping up 2025 making progress towards that. I am also seeing someone clean their body, their hair, and their room/environment SPIC AND SPAN clean. I’m seeing those scenes from SpongeBob when he cleans something and the scene shows cleaning bubbles and sparkles. It’s giving that. Some of you may be obsessed with cleancore, cleantok, cleancore asmr. I’m channeling clear mind subliminals, and also Amanda Rose’s tiktok, so a lot of cleaning and rewiring of the brain. I’m also picking up Zoloft. So some of you are getting mental health support and that’s why you could be feeling the need to scrub your brain and environment, your mind feels scattered and “crooked” . You guys could be neurodivergent, I’m also hearing the word manic as well as the song Border by Kehlani. A lot of choices from your past could have been made because you were in a spiral moment that is often caused by whatever mental health condition you have, I am hearing psychosis, or the term “crashing out”. The line from the Kehlani song I’m hearing is “You could be an angel bae and I wouldn’t know it, I wouldn’t give a damn no way”. So you weren’t seeing clearly.

You may have hurt people that weren’t out to get you, or you could have been hurt by ppl that intentionally took advantage of a time where they knew you weren’t in your right mind. I’m hearing drugs, some of you did things when you weren’t sober, some you were TRIGGER WARNING drugged. Others of you may have just been hazy because of what you were going through, because I’m hearing Escapism by Raye. Some of you were grieving a loss of whatever kind, heartbroken or just not doing well emotionally and people knew that and took advantage. ㅤYou also may not have been in a place of being able to listen to others or others you. Either way you’re wrapping up 2025 cleaning up the mess and being in a completely different place or well on your way to be. There’s this energy of wanting to completely revise your life. you will be in either a new home environment, new state, and completely focusing on yourself and your healing and acting as if these people, and these events never existed. you could be listening to revision subliminals on YouTube. or are being advised to. Don’t look back. Rebrand yourself into what represents who you truly are when in a clear mental space. I do this is exactly what you will be doing. For some you will change your look into something that’s representative of who you really are. For some of you, your true style is something more grunge, or gothic, or you just have a darker palette that you truly like. navy blues, grey, blacks, reds, burgundies those type of colors bring you comfort and neutralize your energy or you’re just more gravitated to and by the end of the year you’ll be fully embracing that, or coming back to it if you’ve abandoned it for whatever reason. it could be the other way around as well, you could start to wear lighter colors, pastels, coquette styled things, cottagecore, earthy, bohemian etc instead of the more grungy, or dark colors you’ve been wearing because it’s simply not you. and you want to shed anything that isn’t you. There also could be an idea you have that you will be putting into action by the end of this year because you’ve finally organized your life and got yourself situated. Before you were very scattered and had to tend to stabilizing yourself. you’ll be wrapping up 2025 authentically you and in the midst of creating a new life for yourself. you will literally deny even knowing some people. you’ll block them, you won’t claim them. it’ll be as if it never happened. you’ll be doing to your past, what Mariah Carey does to J-Lo. Giving very much “I don’t know her” and it’s making me cackle so bad lmao. That’s all I have for you my pile three babies. Love you, and see you in the next reading. 💋

hi my pile four babies, immediately for this pile i get that you may love sabrina carpenter. you could have done a lot of crying to her album emails i can’t send, and you may be doing a lot of healing and repairing yourself to her album short and sweet. very specific but some of you who chose this pile could do workouts to her short and sweet album. some of you could have recently done a youtube dance workout to please please please, or a treadmill workout to espresso or both. or workout in general in the gym to her albums. i specifically channeled lonesome by sabrina carpenter , the specific line where she says “if i fall in love with my problems will they leave me too?” so some of you could have ghosted or discarded by someone. they could have left you or ghosted you for someone else, and/or you may have been waiting for them to respond to you, or reach out. you could watch or read a lot of no contact readings etc. You’ll wrap up this year healing from this situation. You’ll be deciding to completely let this situation or person go. By the end of this year, you will intentionally make it to where even if they wanted to contact you, they can’t anymore because you’re moving on and realizing you deserve better. You could be healing your self concept or deciding to by the end of the year. you could be listening to self concept subliminals on youtube. or drowning yourself in healing, worthy, “divine feminine” affirmations for some. If you aren’t doing that now, you should as i do see your mentality will do a huge shift by the end of this year. Or will be by the time you wrap up this year. If you haven’t been ghosted, you may wrap up this year with less of a yearning for love and more satisfaction with where you are in life, and with more of an ability to romanticize your everyday life on your own.

For others, you’ll wrap up this year shedding and rebranding your aesthetic and mental health. You could be in a bad depression, right now or have been this past year and you’ll wrap up this year with better mental health. For some, you’ll be on medication by the end of this year, and that will allow you to wrap up the end of this year in a much healthier mental state. You may wrap up this year being kinder to yourself and others because of this. For some you may be on weight loss meds by the end of this year, for others you may be in the gym, or have a consistent at home workout routine. I’m channeling “Glowithjo” on youtube. you may consistently doing Pilates and Yoga at home. Or pole dancing, or ab workouts. you may wrap up this year, learning to perfect your makeup routine. you may love korean style makeup and may be learning how to perfect the skincare and makeup routine, and finding what works for you. You may wrap up this year finishing your list of movies, or books on your TBR list.

For others of you, you’ll wrap up this year with a new perspective on life and your past experiences. You’ll have so much emotional freedom and peace, you won’t be attached to things that robbed you of your peace of mind. Your head will be clear. I keep getting mental health. Your mental health will be soooo much better by the end of this year. For others you may wrap up this year with a better intuition. You may study spiritual topics and meanings and be very well versed in your specific topic. You could get better at your divination skills by the end of this year. For others you’ll wrap up this year studying psychology, or social work, or something of that nature. If you will not be completing it by the end of this year, you’ll be studying it and excelling in your classes. Or simply have better understanding because you picked it up as a hobby.

Lastly, for others you’ll be doing a specific art medium by the end of this year, and you’ll wrap the year up being more skilled and possibly posting content as it pertains to whatever art medium you’re doing. You will receive such positive feedback. You won’t really have any hateful or rude comments on your content, as some of you are very anxious as it pertains to that. Your viewers will be very soft, gentle and sweet. For some this could pertain to writing, painting, and/or possibly spiritual work it could be anything. I did channel baking, and cleaning as well as plant or gardening content and lifestyle vlogging or silent vlogging. Some of you may be changing your room to a more bohemian earthy styled bedroom, and may have vines hanging on your wall. Some of you may wrap up this year having booked your first acting, or modeling gig. For others a screenplay. Some of you may also wrap up this year being accepted to and attending a prestigious school or arts school of some sorts. I’m channeling Elle Woods. All in all you wrap up this year healed, or healing. You’ll have such a clear mental state, and sharp intuition. You won’t be able to tell that you were in some of the heavy pain or fogginess that you began the year will. You’ll feel lighter by the end of this year, free, as if you’re floating. You’ll be content and satisfied with where you are in life, so much so that you won’t see the need in changing much around you. You’ll be content with who you are, how you look, and what you have. AVA 11 Might Have Teased Hazard's Backstory

So. AVA 11 huh.

I could make a LOT of posts about this wham episode. But this is the big one I want to bring up. While discussing AVA 11 with my friends on Discord, we discovered that we might already know Hazard's backstory.

So. Hazard, Ballista and Primal were surprisingly absent from AVA 11. I'm pretty sure this shocked everyone; why would the origin episode not show the origins of 3/5th of the villains? Well, I still think it gave us a little teaser of what we can expect of their backstories in future episodes.

In the scene that shows the Shepherd and Steven's creation, look at this:

LOOK AT THIS

A PICTOGRAM DUDE. ON NEWGROUNDS. That's gotta be Hazard. To clarify, yes this is likely something Alan himself created; me and my friends looked this up on Newgrounds and couldn't find it. It's most likely original for AVA.

So. Hazard was on Newgrounds. He was there for a long time, before Mitsi or Chosen were even born. So why wasn't he in AVA 11 during the destruction of Newgrounds? Well, look at his work's title and description: A tribute to "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". Very specific. So, what are the lyrics to this song?

Now. Now connect this to Hazard, to the Newgrounds Incident. How in AVA canon, once your animation is destroyed you're forced onto the website you came from. This specific song was chosen for a reason. Because, in my opinion, if this truly is Hazard, then the lyrics reflect his origin story.

What am I getting at? Hazard... wasn't forced onto Newgrounds during Chosen and Dark's rampage. They just missed him. He was left untouched. Until years later, when Newgrounds is still a mess no one ever cleaned up, some rubble of destroyed buildings collapses. And then Hazard is forced out of the Outernet into Newgrounds. What does he see? Empty streets. A city that sleeps; empty of all life after everyone was killed or evacuated. He's the only one here. It's his home, and he walks alone.

Hazard sees the remnants of a warzone. Something happened. Someone destroyed his home and murdered thousands of innocents. And he wants to bring justice, to avenge all those innocent people. So when Rocket Corp claims they found the culprit, he jumps at the call.

It works perfectly. It's foreshadowed. It makes sense with the theme of Chosen's actions biting him in the ass. It fits with the theme of Victim and Agent being exposed as good, but misguided people; Hazard is also a good person at heart, who just doesn't see the full picture.

The comic relief has one of the saddest backstories of them all.

who's who in the zoo wilderness

like many yellowjackets fans i am Obsessed with the flashbacks in the pilot episode - but while many theories are about who pit girl is or who the antler queen is i also wanted to have a look at who each of the creepy cloaked cultee's might be under their masks...

in the flashbacks we have nine characters -

pit girl (called "The Runner" in the script)

antler queen (called "The Shaman")

the one wearing beaver fur ("The Overseer")

the one wearing a skunk fur ("The Hunter")

the one in the pink hood ("The Butcher")

one wearing an owl

one wearing racoons

one wearing what appears to be a wolf

one wearing pants/leggings in a way that looks rabbit-like.

The antler queen is the name the fans have given the mysterious veiled figure - but the creators have been firm in saying that is an interpretation and not a fact. What we know about this figure is she's referred to as "The Shaman" and she's obviously a significant figure in the group - but not necessarily the queen/leader. I don't think this character is automatically the leader of the cult.

The definition of a shaman includes:

A member of certain traditional societies, especially of northern Asia and of North and South America, who acts as a medium between the visible world and an invisible spirit world and who practices magic or sorcery for purposes of healing, divination, and control over natural events.

The term shamanism comes from the Manchu-Tungus word šaman. The noun is formed from the verb ša- ‘to know’; thus, a shaman is literally “one who knows.” 

So of these nine, seven of them must be our seven known survivors:

just a note: aside from sammi hanratty (misty) none of the other actors were playing characters in this scene - those roles were filled by body doubles. so i'm not going to be too specific in comparing looks to try and match these characters to our known characters. There's also the fact that these scenes were written and filmed for the pilot before the show was greenlit and since then the story has changed somewhat (for example - van most likely originally dying from the wolf attack but that being rewritten because they loved what liv hewson did with the character and wanting them to continue). So I'll mostly be focusing on the characters we know were absolutely intended to be there: Shauna, Tai, Natalie (confirmed to survive in the pilot) as well as Travis and Lottie (confirmed to survive later in s1).

Theories/Predictions/Headcanons

Only one figure is 100% confirmed - the Overseer being Misty, as she is the only character seen to remove her fur mask at the end of the pilot episode.

The other that is basically confirmed is the identity of the Butcher being Shauna.

Not only was Shauna... literally the butcher in the past and the present ("Shauna, you're the best with the knife, so you'll handle the body. I mean cut it up." - Misty in 1x10) but when Shauna kills Adam she has flashbacks that include the Butcher bleeding the Runner's corpse.

Then there's the Runner, and given that she dies gruesomely she is not one of the survivors, but is one of the yellowjackets who survived past the end of s2.

Aside from her face, she is the character we see the most of physically (so i will mention her physical appearance in relation with who her character might be) - she has long dark hair and lighter/olive coloured skin.

based on this we know that pit girl is most likely either Gen or Mari (my vote is mari, and i wrote a meta on why). now that gen has been recast for s3 :( i'm thinking it's almost definitely mari.

that's 3/9 and where the clearest examples stop.

Owl

I think the animals were chosen with intention, both by the costume designer and within the story by the characters. whereas the other masks seem more for the sake of warmth (like the raccoon pelts sort of sewed together into a hood) this one feels a lot more symbolic. like can you even skin an owl while keeping the feathers??

I think this is a reference to Tai's connection with the "Other Tai" - the one who comes out in sleepwalking, and somehow knows the lay of the land (where the symbols are, where the other yellowjackets are) in a way that Tai doesn't understand. The imagery of having a character appear to literally have two faces just screams Tai to me.

From some very basic research it seems that owl can symbolically mean: wisdom, a guide in the dark, death, visions, etc.

While this could relate to Tai, it could also relate to Lottie.

While as the audience we know Lottie is schizophrenic and without her meds, the others have taken Lottie's visions as signs from the wilderness and treat her as the resident seer. While she's clearly trying to pull away from that role and the responsibility it entails by the end of s2 - the other yellowjackets already look to her as someone with the knowledge to guide them through the wilderness.

There's also the clothing. While most clothes seem to be passed around communally (a sweater Misty & Mari wear in s2 is the legwarmers on the owl and the mask on the skunk) there are some items that are reserved for specific characters (like Shauna wearing Jackie's butterfly shirt).

In the '96 timeline Tai wears a lot of patterned blue and purple clothes, some of which almost definitely become part of the outfit for this owl character.

There's also the vest - it could be an animal fur but it has some of similarities to Lottie's fluffy coat, especially one that's become dirtier while stranded without the cabin. This coat is only worn by Lottie. The raccoon character also wears a similar vest, so it could just be fur, but Lottie's coat resembles the owl character's vest more based on the colour, or the coat could have been split in two.

Overall I think the owl character is most likely Tai.

in doomcoming and in the hunt in the future the upper half of tai's face is covered and it makes sense to me that trend would continue in all her hunt outfits. there's also the repeated imagery of eyes within her story - the man with no eyes, her grandmother's eyes, sammy's doll on the altar missing an eye, so her outfit having a taxidermy owl with no eyes tracks.

Wolf

unfortunately not many clear images exist for this character. i'm not even sure if the pelt they're wearing is a wolf, it could also be a bear, but i'm going with wolf for now.

i think this is Travis. travis is the other hunter of the group and it makes sense that the characters furs might come from their own hunts/kills. symbolism wise travis does fit a wolf as well - loyalty, protection, strength. wolves are closely tied to the bonds of packs and family, making sense that travis would be the lone wolf as he's lost his father and brother out here.

tai and van are also associated with wolves - but i don't think either of them would want to wear one all the time, given that van was attacked by one and tai is haunted by them.

the wolf character also has some small details that fit for travis' character. their face is covered from the eyes down, something travis often does throughout season 2. the wolf, owl and skunk characters are also the only ones (that we can see) wearing fingerless gloves. given that the last time travis saw javi happy was him being gifted gloves by natalie, and that much of their clothes would have been destroyed in the fire (but not javi's, which were most likely still outside) i can see travis wearing javi's gloves.

The Hunter / Skunk

i think this is Natalie. before the season 2 finale i would've said this was 100%. now knowing that natalie is their new leader, there is the possibility that she is the antler queen character, which i will talk about later, but for me this character only makes sense as natalie.

nat's the hunter! even as a new leader, she's still the most capable and knowledgeable in hunting. travis is very much her second while she leads the hunting trips. it also makes sense that as the leader she would be the first one to check The Runner, to stand over the pit. both an 'honour' and a duty.

natalie's also been the one standing over the bodies so far. she's the one waiting outside with jackie's body at the start of 2x03, she's the one who takes jackie's remains and has a short memorial for her. she's the one who stays outside the longest, standing over travis with javi's body. obviously not definitive but does work with the skunk character.

as for the clothes - the hunter wears the iconic co-ed soccer shirt, pink converse, and for a mask the cloth is currently a sweater within the show.

the shirt begins the show as van's - but almost every character has worn it now (including tai, travis, akilah, etc.). the pink connverse have never been quite as clear, but it appears that might have originally been shauna's (a darker colour that most likely faded over the 19 months) and have been worn by at least lottie, gen & tai. the sweater that the mask is made of has been worn by misty, mari & mel. so none of that narrows anything down sdjflsakhfl;h

i think the skunk is quite a specific choice too. could be about seeing things in black & white, about keeping your distance, etc. there's not a lot about skunk symbolism but it mainly seems to involve confidence, courage and direction. these are interesting when paired with natalie, given that she fits some very well but struggles with others.

it's also implied in the original pilot script that this character is natalie.

while we do see the hunter pulling up the runner's body with the rope, the scene with natalie does not make it into the episode. it does suggest that when filming the pilot this character was thought of to be natalie though. of course, as the show progressed this may have changed.

still in 1x10 when it's decided that shauna will cut up adam's body, natalie is the one who volunteers to help her, while misty is the one who directs all of them, mirroring this scene with the butcher (shauna), overseer (misty) and hunter (natalie).

some say that the hunter is van - has a similar build and the general blankness/darkness that van has by the end of s2, as well as being the shirt's og owner. but van wasn't supposed to be there in the initial conception of this character. while it may have changed now, for me this character is natalie.

Raccoon & Rabbit

I'm honestly not sure who these two might be. One is most likely Van, given that we know she survives.

Early on there were theories that Jackie was the Rabbit, due to her association with rabbits, which makes sense, but now we know Jackie's dead. Then they were possibly Javi, but he's dead too. As for symbolism, I'm not sure who of the remaining Yellowjackets fits either of these characters.

I think the creators were purposefully ambiguous to leave themselves with options. If the audience doesn't know who is who, they have the opportunity to change the story slightly as the show progresses (like with Van surviving).

The Shaman / Antler Queen

while initially thought to be lottie, as she is set up as the leader in the wilderness, the season 2 finale revealed that natalie was the new leader. both of these characters could be the shaman, but i feel as though it makes more sense for natalie to be the hunter. even though there are moment that in retrospect hint that natalie becomes the leader (misty's devotion, natalie stating that she lacked a purpose after they were rescued, tai and shauna's conversation about nat being the reason they're alive), there are no clear references to natalie being the antler queen character in the story so far (although that could have been hidden on purpose for the reveal).

in the adult timeline the others are terrified of the antler queen in a way that's different from their reactions to the symbol from the wilderness. when they receive the postcards or realise the symbol is under travis' body they are disturbed, they have a distrust of the symbol and everything it reminds them of.

but their reactions to the shaman are different. she appears in shauna's flashbacks when she kills adam, in natalie's visions/hallucinations after she overdoses, and in lottie's visions/hallucinations after hearing natalie's experience and in her office with the fake therapist. each of them are utterly terrified when she appears.

i think who the shaman is depends on what her role truly is. as i've already said, the "antler queen" is a title made up by the fans.

Leader:

The Shaman does appear to be the leader of the group, sitting in the centre of the semi-circle, being elevated, everyone waiting for her go-ahead to begin the feast, and everyone waiting for her to leave first.

If The Shaman is the leader, then she is Natalie.

This is supported by the editing in the pilot episode - at the '96 party when Natalie gets high, she stands by the fire and sees Misty standing across from her. It then cuts to the Overseer bringing the Shaman the cooked feast.

Chief Mourner:

If the Shaman is the chief mourner, it would depend on who the Runner is. If she's gen, the Shaman would most likely be mel in this instance. if she's mari, the most likely mourner would be akilah. the shaman doesn't appear to have akilah's dark skin, but body doubles were used and her face is veiled. if akilah has already died, the mourner might be lottie or gen.

It would be interesting with the idea that the antler queen changes from person to person. That they're all still terrified of "her" when what she represents is you losing the one you love most, you being the one with the most grief.

This is supported by what's happened with the two acts of cannibalism so far in the series. Shauna is Jackie's chief mourner, she is the one to light her funeral pyre, she is the one to give the go ahead that they should eat Jackie's body ("She wants us to." - Shauna in 2x02). Travis is Javi's chief mourner, and he is also the one to give the go ahead to eat Javi's body, everyone rushing in for the 'meat' after Travis has put Javi's heart on the pan.

However the Shaman is never seen eating. Both Shauna and Travis have the first bite of their loved one, whereas the Shaman only nods for the feast to start. It's possible this is part of a ritual that evolved over time, but it's still puzzling.

Spiritual Advisor :

if the antler queen is some sort of spiritual advisor, then she's most likely lottie. this fits with what we've seen in the '96 timeline already, with lottie's wilderness connection and the reverence shown to her by other team mates. even though lottie abdicates her role of leader in the s2 finale and claims she 'can't hear' the wilderness anymore - it's clear this is because of the weight of the responsibility to keep them alive, as well as her grief and guilt over javi's death.

still, several of the others seem confused at lottie's decision, and only seem to be accepting natalie as the leader because lottie said so. if this is something that creates tension within the group, it makes sense that natalie might appoint lottie a role where they can still look to her.

natalie as the leader/hunter is the one brining in the kill, but lottie as a spiritual advisor/shaman is the one leading the ritual.

this is supported by how in the adult timeline when they are having another hunt, it's lottie that leads it, not natalie. though that may be because lottie was the one to initiate the hunt. lottie also still acts as a spiritual advisor, with the others coming to her for advice.

the other option for a spiritual advisor is Tai. Not necessarily tai though... but Other Tai.

Much about Other Tai still remains a mystery. Is she another personality, a response to the trauma and repression, some sort of possession from the wilderness? In the adult timeline Lottie says that Other Tai is a part of Taissa, but Other Tai's conversation with Van in the woods raises questions about this.

Van: How do you know where you're going? Other Tai: He shows me. Van: Who's "he?" Other Tai: The one with no eyes. Van: Is that who you always follow? Other Tai: Only when she lets me. Van: Okay there's a "she" too, am I "she?" Other Tai: [shakes head] Van: Then who is "she?" Other Tai: Taissa. Van: Then who are you? Other Tai: [gives Van a look before walking away]

Other Tai's ability to track the whereabouts of the other survivors (Javi, Natalie), her connection to the man with no eyes, and knowing where all of the symbols are imply something more supernatural then just "sleepwalking".

Other Tai is the one to participate in cannibalising Jackie, she's strongly implied to be the one who pushes Taissa to continue running for senate even after she told Simone she would drop out, and she is the one to behead their fucking dog and make an altar in their basement. The creators and actors have talked about Other Tai and explain that she has Tai's best interest in mind, but she is willing to do what Tai wouldn't do to get it. Other Tai has a connection to the wilderness and the supernatural, she desires power and can become violent. She could very well be The Shaman.

"I don't know how bad it's going to get this time, but you know how bad it can get." - Tai in 1x06

Group Hallucination:

It's been theorised that the Shaman / Antler Queen doesn't really exist at all.

With the show toeing the line between visions, hallucinations and grief-induced psychosis with multiple characters (including Lottie, Tai, Shauna, Natalie, Travis) it's possible that as the group spirals more and more out of control and into ritualistic cannibalism - a way that they attempt to cope is through this Shaman. A 'physical' manifestation of the Wilderness itself. Something that gives them permission to feast on the flesh of their teammates, but does not eat herself, because she's not really there.

We only see The Shaman during the feast scene, and in other's visions/hallucinations. We know there are seven known survivors, but during the pilot's flash forward scene we see eight. Only if The Shaman doesn't exist, it's our seven survivors and a hallucination sitting around the fire.

So in the end my main theories/predictions/headcanons stand as:

Mari as The Runner / Pit Girl

Misty as The Overseer / Beaver

Shauna as The Butcher / Pink Hood

Natalie as The Hunter / Skunk

Tai as the owl

Travis as the wolf

Lottie as The Shaman / Antler Queen

the one I am least sure of is The Shaman, she could still be Tai or a hallucination, and I look forward to finding out!
