In The Haze 🌪️
A classic Bellamy Blake x Kane!reader acid fog story….with a head cannon included as a twist ✨
TW- cannon divergence, mentions of assault/manipulation, gore?
——-
The silence of the hunting group made the trees seem louder, each gust of wind causing heads to whip around. Your feet no longer crunched on the forest floor like they had when you first arrived to the ground mere weeks ago. You looked to your ‘leader’, seriously doubting his decision to leave the safety of camp with all the current looming threats from the grounders. When you saw his determined expression, you couldn’t help but roll your eyes. He was the only one of the group who didn’t look afraid, and that made him a fool.
“Over there!” Sterling whisper-shouted, pointing to a deer in the distance. Bellamy nodded and as usual, took the lead and aimed his knife. You decided to take in the scenery instead of watching another of his power plays. That was when you saw it. A murder of at least one hundred crows, frantically fleeing across the sky. You didn’t want to know what they were so afraid of. Unfortunately, on the ground it’s not possible to close your eyes to the dangers.
“ACID FOGGG!!!” Munroe yelled. Your eyes widened as you watched the group run off in different directions. You didn’t know which way the nearest shelter was and found yourself spinning in circles. The fog moved closer, faster than you could think. Until a hand grabbed yours.
“Come on!” Bellamy’s gruff voice ushered you away from green cloud. The two of you ran, hand in hand, faster than you ever had before. The forest became a muddy green blur around you.
“There’s a cave by those rocks up there.” He called over his shoulder. You focused your eyes on the shining wet rocks, trying not to think of the encroaching fog. You felt a tug on your neck as you brushed past a tree, on instinct you looked back.
When you saw what had happened, you dropped your hand from Bellamy’s and started to run back. You would rather die in the fog than lose this necklace.
You ignored Bellamy’s calls and moved faster towards the fog, heart almost stopping when you saw it about to make contact your most precious possession. You desperately lunged your hand forward, praying that you’d reach it before the fog did. You could almost feel the chain when you were harshly pulled away. Your hope shattered as you watched the fog engulf your necklace. You still fought Bellamy’s grip for a moment, unable to accept it. You fought until the burning agony of reality seared itself into the arm still stretched out in lost hope.
Finally, you gave in and allowed Bellamy to drag you out of the fog that had begun to swallow you whole.
“What the hell was that?!” He spat as he pushed you into the cave. “You nearly got us both killed over a necklace!” He rubbed his temped as he spoke. “It’s metal! The fog isn’t gunna damage it.” He began to lecture.
“It’s not just a necklace!” You growled, jaw clenching in the pain of your burnt arm. “There was a lock of my mothers hair in there. The fog just turned the last piece of her to dust.” Your voice cracked. For the first time, you noticed Bellamy Blake looking at you as something other than one of the privileged. Running a hand through his curled hair, he sighed.
“I have water in my bag. Let me help you.” Gesturing to your now weeping arm.
Sweat rolled down your back as he peeled off the remnants of your sleeve. You watched his brows furrow in concern at every shudder and wince.
“Why are you helping me?” You asked weakly. “I thought you’d say I deserve this, since my dad floated your mom and all.” You stared at the dripping cave roof.
“I think I’m learning to accept that you can’t judge someone by the sins of their father.” He spoke sadly. You flicked your gaze back to him, watching him curiously. He took a deep breath before meeting your eyes.
“I found out something recently.” His breath hitched and his hands faltered as they worked on your arm. “Commander Shumway is my father.” He released a breath, one that felt as though it was the first since he found out. “She met him just after he became a cadet. He caught her stealing medicine for her father. Told her he would let her off, if she did him a ‘favour’. Nine months later, there I was. But he didn’t care. Instead he held everything against her and once Octavia was born…well he had the ultimate leverage then didn’t he? Then all these years later he tells me the truth, but for his own ends!” You barely felt him tip the water on your arm, as you were listening intently to his tale. “He tells me that he got Octavia into the dropship. He told me if I killed the chancellor, he could use the chaos to get me on the ship with her. I fell for it like a fool.” He wrapped your arm in some torn cloth as he continued. “As soon as I was on the ship, he ratted me out.” Bitterness etched upon his face. “So yeah, I can understand not wanting to make the same mistakes as your shitty father.” His mask returned in an instant with his signature smirk, as he dropped your now cleaned and wrapped arm.
“Thanks.” You gestured to your arm. “For the record, you might be an egotistical dick sometimes, but you’re good. You aren’t like him.” You sent Bellamy a small smile, which he returned while bringing his eyes to meet yours once more.
“You too Kane.” He spoke softly before leaning back against the cave wall and closing his eyes.
“We should rest until the fog clears. We still have to hunt.” His voice had retreated to its usual tone. As you leaned your head against the rocky cave wall you realised that somewhere in the haze, you and Bellamy Blake had seen each other for the first time. Even if just for a second.

Hi !! Long time no see recently I’ve been. So busy with work and school, my application for early graduation got accepted so next semester I’ll take six million units in one shot and graduate early. This is in fact what I’m doing this semester too, I feel like I’m living on campus 🥲 I see my professors more than my friends and family ….
Anyways I’m not dead ! I have many ideas that I still want to draw when I have time or energy, it’s just that I have neither right now 💀 I hope you are all doing well !
#grass talks#life update#so excited to take a clinical research class on top of the lab I’m currently working in#and then a hundred more courses. I’m so excited. I love academia <- self hypnosis#the goal of becoming a published author is so close but the cost is so high (I’m so tired)#and then my other extracurriculars have been fun but I recently got some kind of shin injury#probably from like repeated high impact#since my body is weak to begin with it’s a race to see if I can condition it faster that it can break down on me LOL

professional boxers start showing parkinson's-like symptoms really early (like age 19 with only two or three pro fights on their record) with really clear brain injury so it's not like you even need that much head trauma before it becomes life-altering, and these guys were trained to expect that level of force
now imagine training around something completely different and having to deal with that
#source i used to work at a place that did mris on pro boxers#you wanna talk about an industry that preys on young people jfc#flash ten grand in front of a teenager and he'll sign up for brain injury no questions asked#and walk away with a couple hundred after the fight if he's got one of the less shady agents or promoters

okay pivot on the nursing home au. First. It's no longer just a nursing home au, its a care giving au because Amadeus is basically a Visiting Angel now. Second. Rick Jones is now a major character (so is Mar-vell and eventually genis). Third. It is Amadeus's pov because i find that I write him better. I genuinely don't know what im gonna do with Robbie now but he's going to BE THERE its still amareyes endgame.
#perhaps amadeus can be a cute shower aid that comes to Robbie's nursing home at one point#main thing is Herc is one of amadeus's clients and theyre besties#also its a lot of amadeus recovering from injuries both physical and like ptsd shit#tbh these started out as two different aus and like while i would love to write one hundred thousand different nursing home fics#i need to write less stuff#nursing home au

WoLposting on main for what (and how) he's doing after Endwalker-
He's starting with changing his hairstyle from the long braid with bangs to a shorter ponytail/shaggy bob cut after Endwalker because it feels like. The end of an era. And he's mourning losing his friends' constant presence, a little (even if he and G'raha are now courting and being idiot catboys about it). It's just. Cutting away what was out of grief. He's losing the Scions, at least ostensibly, because they're all splitting up and going different ways, and he's. A lot lost without them.
But also the haircut is because he doesn't want to be some folk hero and only that. Like he's cool with it, but also- he wants time to be Corrain, to figure out who Corrain is. He became the Warrior of Light when he was seventeen and has been that ever since, and before that was just a Keeper foundling in Gridania trying to complete a conjurer apprenticeship so he could get citizenship - he hasn't had the time to figure out what he wants. And sure, being adopted by Edmont and House Fortemps helped - he had a home and a family and a nation finally, even if he's sort of in the same sort-of son category Haurchefant was - but he's got little snippets of Azem's memory bleeding through, he knows there's a wanderlust in him that won't settle, and he needs Corrain de Fortemps to be someone who has the space to find out who he is. And for that he can't be clocked as the WoL everywhere he goes!
So he takes a knife and chops off his braid and then Y'shtola and Krile find him sitting in front of a mirror with this awful fluffy mess and help him shape it better, and when it's long enough to put up he just ties it back in a ponytail. And he just- wanders aimlessly. He helps G'raha a lot, they're definitely dating in a Halone-sanctioned way lmao, and he trails around visiting Scions.
And he's almost invisible. The people who know who he is know Corrain and not just the Warrior of Light, and now the bards' stories don't describe him perfectly and- he's got space to breathe. Space to discover he genuinely likes archaeology and researching bygone eras and writing about them, space to go around and record the mechanical particulars of his forays into ancient ruins and alternate worlds and etc, space to polish his knowledge about foraging and botany and learn how to travel with cookware only and make meals from the land rather than carry food with him-
And all of this to say he finds that - outside of being the Warrior of Light - he genuinely likes the kind of adventuring that comes with learning opportunities. He likes studying the things he's found, likes the challenge of discovery in the first place. He likes the kind of work the Students of Baldesion do, likes working with scholars. (especially G'raha. Nobody saw that coming 🙄) And more than all that- he's genuinely good at it. He gets to realize a lot of his own archaeological/adventuring skill, while supplemented by time-period experts, is in fact it's own branch of knowledge.
So by the time Dawntrail kicks off - I think he's fully considering trying to write a thesis on it, and maybe try to see if Sharlayan would give him an Archon's mark about it. Sure- he's not a Sharlayan citizen, he has strong ties to Ishgard in the vein of being an adopted son of one of the four high houses. But he's also openly dancing circles around G'raha and Artoirel is definitely interested in having a no-inheritance-threat adopted baby brother with a foothold in Sharlayan and- well, House Fortemps approved of G'raha already anyway, they're expecting that to happen.
He's definitely found himself in a lot of ways by the time the next expansion will kick off. Of course part of that is being an actual adult and a twenty-something instead of a teenager, but also- coming to terms with being nine-fourteenths of Azem, coming to terms with defining himself rather than letting what he can do define him, coming to the realization that he's allowed to like what he does and who he is.
That the hope he found in Ultima Thule is actually allowed to feel like his own, and it's not selfish of him to feel that way. That he's allowed to live for himself.
And. Like damn. Finally! but also I'm proud of him. He turns out alright in the end.
Excited to start Dawntrail with this version of Corrain. He's just so much less- desperate to prove something. He proved everything he needed to prove to himself already. And now he finally just adventure for adventure's sake.
#ffxiv wol#ffxiv#wol posting#wolposting#corrain gealai#ffxiv corrain#teenage WoLs are. a special kind of fucked-up. babies....#but he turns out okay. he's okay. and he knows it#post-endwalker plot for the Boy#he's sixteen when he joins the adventurers' guild#and he's twenty-two when he's done recovering from all his injuries from Ultima Thule#i know “canon” says all that was wirhin a year but. nah#five years#anyway this means G'raha meets an almost 18 year old Corrain and is like ???#and then meets him again when he's almost twenty one three hundred years later#and is just immediately like “Didn't think there'd be a glowup like THIS O////O oh no. thank the 12 half of me is crystal”#corrain#corrain meanwhile has been like “🥺 😍 cute boy...” since the Crystal Tower raids lmao

Reading about media reactions vs social media reactions to the Titanic submersible is simultaneously hilarious and makes you want to interrogate the next journalist you come across on their reading comprehension. Newspapers were getting SO MAD that people were making fun of the deaths of five rich guys on a sub. But, like, first off: they chose to be there. You don’t hear people bemoaning the tragedy of the people who died on Everest because they knew what they were doing was dangerous and entirely unnecessary. Second, the CEO was basically asking for trouble. His death was less of a tragedy and more of a nomination for the Darwin Award. He literally said, AND I QUOTE,
“At some point, safety just is pure waste.”
Which ties into the third thing, which is that the US and Canadian governments spent far too long looking for five rich guys on a submersible when less than a week earlier a boat full of immigrants sank off the coast of Greece and NO ONE GAVE A SHIT. The media certainly didn’t seem to care, but they swarmed the Titan implosion like a pack of wolves. So, I dunno, maybe the “lack of empathy” we showed towards the wreck of the Titan had nothing to do with people on the Internet being assholes and everything to do with double-standards and the fact that we’re footing the bill for rich people’s stupidity with both our own money and our lives. Hell, I’d even argue WE weren’t the ones showing a lack of empathy.
#titan submersible#titan implosion#tw death#eat the rich#messenia migrant boat disaster#technically according to the rules of the darwin award the ceo wouldn't be considered even applicable#because if your stupidity caused the deaths or permanent injury of innocent bystanders you're automatically disqualified#because the people you killed could've positively contributed to the gene pool if you hadn't been such an idiot#but semantics#seriously though#if the deaths of five guys who chose to be on a sub they knew was experimental#is considered more tragic than the deaths of hundreds#then there might be a bit of an issue there#also the coast guard isn't allowed to release the cost of the search mission OR accept reimbursement#which might also be a bit of a problem given that rich assholes make up like 70% of the people whose asses the coast guard has to save#especially bc the coast guard is WAY underfunded#and could really use the extra money

a little more information regarding the maui wildfires:
medical workers on the ground are describing finding hundreds of bodies. the current death toll in the media is, unfortunately, only a fraction of the reality
hospital workers are describing injuries and trauma as if survivors had come out of a warzone
thousands are still missing
an apartment complex for the elderly was lost. not everyone could get out. people were saying goodbye to loved ones over the phone
people who did get out of lahaina were leaving with ashes covering their faces and nothing but the clothes on their backs. people are losing everything.
hotels are still operating. hotels are still operating. they are not the ones offering shelters or housing or food. even bowling alleys are offering shelter, but hotels have the audacity to build on burial sites but not open their doors to local families who have lost everything.
donate to maui united way, the maui food bank, mutual aid, and maui humane society
#maui fires#just got off a very emotional and intense zoom call with coworkers#this is what it means to be native#the government and tourism industry spits in your burnt face

Hi everyone. Mohammed Khalil (@ahmed0khalil) has asked me to share his story, and I’m writing on his behalf. Mohammed created the donation campaign for his little brother 6-year-old Ahmed, and he aims to raise funds to evacuate his family of 8. You can see in his blog how much he loves and worries for 6-year-old Ahmed. Mohammed is only 19 years old. This is not normal. He should have been in school, not begging for our attention to try and raise enough funds so that they can buy food, water, medicine, and a chance to evacuate to safety.
In Gaza, where the sounds of bombing blend with the cries of children, Mohammed and Ahmed's family experienced days they never imagined they would endure. Mohammed (19) and Ahmed (6) have four other siblings: Fathi, Aya, Anas and Abdullah. Aya (21) is a uni nursing student and Anas (15) is also a school student. Neither of them can study anymore with the current genocide. This war is especially hard on Fathi (23), who is blind and suffering from coronary artery disease, Abdullah (11) who is autistic and does not understand what is happening, and Ahmed (6), a small child who had barely started kindergarten before his education came to a halt.

The destruction that struck the area left them with no place to live. The sounds of explosions fill the horizon, and the homes that once sheltered them have become piles of rubble. They suddenly found themselves outside their home, homeless.
The bombing not only destroyed their home, but also severely injured Mohammed. Mohammed was sitting at the entrance of the school his family was sheltering in when three bombs were dropped in front of him. The bombs destroyed a residential tower in front of Mohammed. Dust filled the air and the resulting rubble and shrapnel fell on Mohammed, injuring him in the leg. Mohammed was so severely wounded that he could not walk, and he had to lie there, hurt and bleeding, for 2 hours before the Palestinian Red Crescent came and carried him to the hospital.
The bombing shattered the glass in the school Mohammed and his family was staying at, but thankfully the children sustained no serious injuries. Soon after, they were asked to evacuate the school immediately as there were news that the IOF were going to bomb the Abbas prison near it. And so even though Mohammed was wounded, he could not rest and wait for his leg to heal, but had to leave again with his family.

Now they are living in a small tent in a refugee camp. Mohammed told me that they had to bathe in polluted water and the place smelled of sewage and corpses. Camp life was difficult not only because of the scarcity of food, the infectious disease, and the polluted water, but also because of the psychological torture they endure. Looking at all the devastation, and how the world seems indifferent to their suffering, Mohammed told me that they, including young innocent 6-year-old Ahmed, had begun to lose hope for a better future.

Internet is unstable and often lacking in the refugee camp. Mohammed is using the precious time when Internet is available to tell me his story. I hope you will not turn away their calls for help. They urgently need donations to provide for shelter, food, and medicine, as well as to evacuate out of Gaza. Donations are coming in really slowly for Mohammed’s campaign, and I beg all of you, please, don't turn a blind eye to his story.
Mohammed’s campaign has been shared by 90-ghost and I’ve also been talking extensively with him. He is a very nice person and he just really wants to help his family survive. Please, please, help Mohammed evacuate himself, his 5 siblings and his parents! Little 6-year-old Ahmed does not deserve to live in fear of falling bombs every day, and neither does Mohammed and the rest of his family.
Really low funds! Only €1,185 raised of €50,000 target!!
Please share/reblog and donate to help a family of 8! These are children we are talking about, and my heart breaks for what they have to endure.
Please follow Mohammed and Ahmed on @ahmed0khalil to get updates on their situation!

Thinking about the lifespans of Dungeon Meshi elves... The fact that they're completely unnatural alters my brain chemistry, because you can tell just how haphazardly the demon implemented their wish. They live five times the length of tall-men, so they age at a fifth of their rate. It's simple maths and the implications are terrifying. No wonder their birth rate and population are declining - their early development is so slow that at the age of two, they're still unable to stand.
They don't reach adulthood until their eighties. What does the infant mortality look like? How many elves succumb to illness or injury before they're fully mature? It only takes one accident to lose the child you've been raising for decades - and could you bring yourself to care for another? Add to that the implication elf culture has no idea how to process grief... just look at the way the Canaries treat Rin after the death of her parents. They're callous and insensitive and detached - part of that's racism, but there's also an element of pure cold ignorance. They don't even recognise the emotion on her face.
And that's just scratching the surface... does elven memory accommodate their extended lifespan? Once you reach two hundred or so, do the years start blurring together? Kabru mentions that their temporal awareness is remarkably poor.
Two years feel like a few months. Their lives are longer but not fuller. They're older but not wiser than the short-lived races, and most refuse to understand this. Those that do grasp it are interesting - namely Otta, who's ostracised for pursuing half-foot women.
A 30-year old elf is a young child; a 30-year old half-foot has entered middle age. Otta is in the equivalent of her late twenties. She knows that her elven lifespan makes her no more mature than a half-foot - but she also acknowledges that it creates a rift between herself and her partners, and not just in the eyes of society. 'She dumps them as soon as they pass 30', but probably not for the reasons Lycion assumes. For this to be a pattern, decades must have passed - it's possible Otta doesn't want to watch them die as she herself barely ages. No doubt some of her previous lovers have already passed away. In the end, all living 400 years accomplishes is leaving them out of sync with the rest of humanity.
Marcille's perhaps the best example. As a half-elf, she's got 95% of her life ahead and the thought terrifies her. She's going to lose everyone she loves, over and over and over again, and this cycle has barely even started. She runs at a different pace. This context adds so much to her dynamic with Falin in earlier chapters.
Marcille loves her! She's scared for her! Maybe even of her! She's grown attached to a short-lived girl who she met as a kid when Marcille was a teaching assistant! Biologically and developmentally, they're the same age, but chronologically she's twice as old as Falin! Considering what happened to her mother, is history repeating itself? Her feelings towards Falin are tangled and messy and fascinating. They're also more than a little homoerotic, which makes Marcille's infantilization of her friend all the more interesting. It feels like her way of resolving their power imbalance, of remaining a responsible (former!) authority figure... but it's also a coping mechanism. She's frightened by the ways Falin is maturing and changing - aging - and keeping her mental image of her friend as young as possible is her way of denying the march of time that's destined to sever their bond.
Marcille's dream of lifespan extension would remove the need for this obfuscation, render them equal... only, they already are! This desire is imposed onto Falin, but it's primarily for Marcille's benefit. Watching her fight for a world nobody wants, for reasons both selfish and altruistic... it's as tragic as it is understandable. I love this manga.
