𝑨 = 𝑨𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

I know that Vane might seem cold, but with you, he's very affectionate. He loves kissing your lips, especially in front of the crew. Vane doesn't mind PDA at all - he wants you to sit on his lap, hell he'd love it if you played with his hair.

𝑩 = 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒚 (What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?)

𝑷𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚: Vane loves your hands. He loves that he can hold them, press them to his face, kiss your knuckles, nip at your fingertips. Your hands feel like a way of connecting with you.

𝑬𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚: He admires your loyalty the very most. Knowing that you would do anything for him makes him love you even more. And with that loyalty, he feels safe enough to give you that same energy back.

𝑪 = 𝑪𝒖𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒆𝒔 (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

100% loves to cuddle; he always wants to be the big spoon. With his arms wrapped tightly around your waist, breathing in the smell of your hair and nuzzling into your neck. It's how he likes to spend his mornings and nights.

𝑫 = 𝑫𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄 (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Well, Vane is a pirate...as are you. Settling down isn't really in the cards. Especially not for Vane, who is desperate to keep Nassau from civilisation. He sees settling down a part of the English culture, which he doesn't want to be apart of.

𝑬 = 𝑬𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 (When something is bothering them, how do they act around you?)

Vane is an upfront guy, especially with problems. You're his partner, his equal, and he shares whatevers on his mind with you. Even if you were the one who did something - he's not the type to beat around the bush.

𝑭 = 𝑭𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒆 (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

For some reason, he really doesn't like sleeping around. He did it in his earlier years but now he thinks committing himself to someone is more heartbreaking and fulfilling than any quick thing.

In saying that, he wouldn't want to get married straight away. Because in marriages, even pirate ones, it's a big deal. And getting married to him would indefinitely put a target on your back. So he wants to know that you're in this for the long haul.

𝑮 = 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒆 (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

𝑷𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚: There's a tenderness in his touch, but roughness lies on the surface. Not only his hands from harsh work but he never really experienced gentleness. Well not freely anyway. Until you. So you can imagine his physical touch; grabbing the back of your neck, squeezing your thigh, even holding your hand has a gruff aspect to it.

𝑬𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚: Shockingly, his words are more gentle than his touch. Even if they come out in a gravel-like voice. His voice is like earth, and maybe that's apart of the gentleness; he brings you back down to earth, makes you feel stable.

𝑯 = 𝑯𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒏 (Do they tell you about their childhood? Their trauma? The sides of themself that they keep hidden from the world.)

Certain things come easier to say than others, and he's told others some of his past but it's only you who knows the most. Sometimes he wakes up from nightmares which was how you knew about parts of his past. He'd wake up and tell you in mess of words and sweat.

𝑰 = 𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Vane said it two years after being together and five years after knowing you. He didn't want to say something he didn't mean, or get caught up in lust.

𝑱 = 𝑱𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒚 (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Oh, he gets very very jealous. Not that he thinks you'd stray, but he knows what's in other men's hearts. He often asks what you did throughout your day when he isn't there, and who you saw. Sometimes it can feel like an interrogation.

𝑲 = 𝑲𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔 (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Vane's kisses are dominating and all-consuming. He wants you to be thinking of him and nothing else. He can be a tad possessive.

𝑳 = 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔 (How are they around children?)

He has a soft spot for kids, because of his upbringing. It's not something he likes to ... exhibit. It's a bit of a weakness really.

𝑴 = 𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 (How are mornings spent with them?)

Depending if you're on the ship or at port; you either wake up on your own or snuggled next to him. On the ship he's the captain, he has responsibilities. Although he doesn't leave the bed without giving you a kiss on the forehead. When you're at port, he likes to take his time with you in the mornings. Make up for lost time.

𝑵 = 𝑵𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 (How are nights spent with them?)

A lot of the time he stays up late. Both at sea and on shore. It was really difficult for him to fall asleep. It had been for years. With you next to him though, it makes it a lot easier.

𝑶 = 𝑶𝒑𝒆𝒏 (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

It took him a while to open up. To truly tell you things about himself. Because he used to tell you things for shock value; sometimes you scare you off, almost like a test. But after knowing him for two years, he started to show his vulnerabililties.

𝑷 = 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 (How easily angered are they?)

With you? He has a lot more patience. Yet, he doesn't like being undermined in front of the crew. In private, do it all you like, but in front of his men - he needs to keep up appearances. As appearing fearsome is half the battle of keeping men in line.

𝑸 = 𝑸𝒖𝒊𝒛𝒛𝒆𝒔 (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Surprisingly, Vane remembers a lot. It definitely shocked you when he told you everything he remembered. You thought he was just 'umming and ahhing' to be polite, but he was really listening. Vane wouldn't tell you, but everything you say is important to him.

𝑹 = 𝑹𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

The first time he saw you punch someone in the face. That's when he fell in love with you. He was going to do it himself, but you beat him to the punch :')

𝑺 = 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Vane is very protective of you, but knows you can protect yourself. You've been doing it for years now, but sometimes he has to remind you that you don't have to look over your shoulder. Because he always has your back. Well, not only him but Jack and Anne as well.

It's actually the same with him, exactly the same. You often remind him that he isn't doing this alone. He doesn't have to carry every burden and responsibility.

𝑻 = 𝑻𝒓𝒚 (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

He loves surprisingly you with gifts, and more often than not it's him who remembers anniversaries over you. He doesn't get upset when you don't remember - nor does he feel superior.

𝑼 = 𝑼𝒈𝒍𝒚 (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Picks his nails with a knife and doesn't care about violence. With the latter, it's a means to an end; there's a reason for the violence - showing power mostly. As well as consequences. The first habit he does almost absentmindedly. It started when he was a teenager.

𝑽 = 𝑽𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 (How concerned are they with their looks?)

...Yes he is concerned with his looks... more than the usual pirate. I mean, Vane is tanned, he's got a six pack, his teeth are well looked after and his hair is long and beautiful (albeit somewhat greasy but most of the citizens are). A lot of it is attributed to being the fittest; he's ready to fight for his position as captain. The other parts are self-explanatory, his last name is Vane (even though it's spelt different to the word vain).

𝑾 =𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 (Where is their favourite place to take their partner?)

He loves rowing you over to a secluded spot, with perfect shade but also the right amount of sunlight. He can be very romantic; with food and drinks, he loves spending practically the whole day on that spot. No one can find you, not even the worries of the world.

𝑿 = 𝑿𝒚𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒆 (What’s their song)

Someone who is flippant, who doesn't know what they want in life and just drifts. He can't stand people who don't believe in something. He doesn't understand how a person couldn't have at least one passion.

𝒁 = 𝒁𝒛𝒛 (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)

He's a very light sleeper. And once he wakes up, he can't get back to sleep again. It's why he gets annoyed when someone wakes him up in the middle of the night...

The way that XII subtly parallels Flint's memories of trying to talk Thomas out of his plans to save Nassau, with Flint asking Silver to tell him why people oppose his plan to remove Vane from the fort. The way you can see in Flint's expression, he got this from Thomas. He knows the value in asking someone to explain exactly why they could be in the wrong, before you become fully certain you're in the right. The way he's still hung up on this dichotomy of being the hero or the villain, even though he's now trying to be the hero to the people of Nassau, while England is his own personal villain, his own monster. All the while not knowing he's about to discover the daughter of the friend who secretly betrayed him, and lead to this entire ordeal, the entire creation of Flint. A series of events which will inevitably lead him to entirely surrender James Mcgraw, and become entirely the monster. Become entirely James Flint.
