Cape Breton! You stole my heart! I stayed in Cape Breton for three days, the I headed to Prince Edward Island to spend the few last days of my trip. Driving the scenic ocean view road north of Cape Breton was THE highlight of my trip. My only regret? I couldn’t fly my drone because of strong winds. See those waves crashing on rocks and creating that hazy like atmosphere in these photos with the help of strong winds. The sun was low and gave the road a beautiful reflection as you can see. -Note the Great cormorants chilling on the rocks in the first photo. There were mallards and mergansers, brave enough to swim in those crazy waves. Watching them go up and down the waves so smoothly and masterfully always amazes me. Finished….for now. I’ll need to drill the hinge and screwdriver bit holder when I get back to the city shop. I didn’t bring any suitable drill bits with me and the old brace here in the summer shop isn’t the best. No big deal, a few drilled holes and we can call this project done. This was a fun build with a good amount of challenging joinery throughout. Starting with this beautiful butternut and curly maple also helped. I gave it a quick rub with some walnut oil and beeswax to finish. I’m not going to glue this together, it really doesn’t need it. It’ll be nice to pull apart when I show students the options they have when they’re designing and building their own box projects in a few weeks time….It Starts with a Box. Nova Scotia & PEI, part two! December 18th, and I left beautiful Halifax, and drove to paradise, also known as Cape Breton! A slow drive to absorb all the beauty of one of the most (if not THE most) scenic roads you can imagine. No photos was taken. Just memories. Settled down in my room with ocean view, in an inn. I was still feeling sick so I didn’t push it. On the 19th, I decided to drive to Sydney, NS, as it was my only chance to see Cape Breton south. But I couldn’t go any further than North Sydney, and I feel lucky I could sleep in my room that night. It’s the night my car got stuck in mud, and only took 5 hours to get out. Cannot appreciate @ryanmans and Nova Scotia Jeep Club enough for going above and beyond to help me. Ryan, was a hero without a cape, because why do you need a cape when you have a super cool Rubicon? A valuable lesson, and a day that could be better, but could be way worse if it wasn’t for Ryan’s help. Have a look.
