Lucifer vs Tim/Masky

Oh boy, this is bad. Very bad!

Tim is angry and scared to the moon and down, because one of his fellow “co-workers” (and friend) vanished in thin air in front of his face and the Boss.

Masky and Tim are already trying to track down MC without a second thought. He wants his pal back and to not anger Slenderman himself (Unfortunately the Boss already knows and isn’t happy about it by a mile-).

Also yes, Masky is Tim’s alter ego, who is more violent. I don’t make the rules. Same goes for Hoodie/Brian.

While in the Devildom Lucifer already is getting gray hair from the realization, that MC works for the faceless eldritch horror monster himself and they’re part of a huge group, which consists of infamous and brutal serial killers, demons, ghosts etc.

Lucifer is ready to defend his brothers and MC from possible threat and even if he’s not showing it, deep down Luci is losing his absolute shit.

The fact, that he found out about MC’s past and how they were forced to work for the monster against their will (including the Slender sickness and the brutal years of fear, depression, physical torture and rapid mental health decrease), broke the Avatar of Pride’s heart to billions of pieces.

Ironically, both Tim and Lucifer are the right hands of a higher being (except that Tim got overpassed by Toby. Tim is calmer about it, but Masly still acts like he’s in charge and is pissed off-).

Luci – Dia and Masky/Tim – Slender. You get it.

Now when these two finally meet, you’ll probably think, that Tim and Masky are going to lose. Might have to remind you, that they work for Der Großman and just because Lucifer is one of the most powerful demons in the Devildom, that doesn’t mean the Avatar of Pride is going to get out unharmed.

Tim is more for negotiations, but Masky is all about bloodshed.

Scratches, wounds done by a crowbar and magic, burn marks, bruises. You name it.

These two are at each other’s throats on sight (especially if Masky is in charge).

Lucifer underestimates him for a moment before a good hit from the proxy’s crowbar makes the fallen angel see stars.

And one smack from Luci’s wings blows Tim away, making Masky to come out.

Uh oh.

Masky is angry and Luci receives a hit in the groin, making him bend over in pain.

One thing aside, Tim can relate to Luci at a certain degree, when it comes to power position and dealing with a hyperenergetic idiot (Mammon and Toby-) …

But this won’t stop Tim/Masky from getting their buddy back nor this will stop Luci from annihilating the proxy into oblivion.

The situation can get worse, because of one thing.

And only one.

Slenderman taking over his proxy and Lucifer shifting into his final form.

Not his demon form.

I’m talking about 10 ft tall eldritch horror with the resemblances of a goat and a peacock in Luci’s monstrous form.

Larger claws, bigger horns and sharper teeth.

Tim’s eyes going white as an ominous aura surrounds him and his vision becomes red from rage and adrenaline.

This is gonna get ugly fr.

Spoiler alert: Lucifer won-

But barely. Just barely.

Slender ain’t taking shit from some demon, even if that demon is powerful as fuck, and not getting one of his proxies killed.

Yet.

Mammon vs Ticci Toby

If you think Tim/Masky and Lucifer’s situation was bad already… Yeaaah. Think again.

These two are AN UNSTABLE DEPRESSED TOUCH STARVED MIXED BAG!

There are two ways this encounter is gonna end.

Either by the two trying to kill each other, duh… or them breaking down and venting to one another.

Toby is a broken and lonely energetic man, that adores and cherishes MC a lot, despite him being unhinged af.

 Mammon, on the other hand, feels lonely, despite his hype energy, and suffers from depression for thousands of years ever since him and his brothers fell from the Celestial Realm. He loves MC with his whole heart as much as Toby does.

On top of all the Avatar of Greed’s constant mental and physical suffering, along being insulted and hurt by his brothers 24/7, hits Toby too close to home. The proxy can’t feel pain, because of his C.I.P.A., but he can definitely see or feel the emotional wounds the second-born carries. Seeing him get hurt actually makes Toby’s tics more violent, because of his own emotions triggering them. (Why’s this actually cute-)

It reminds Toby of his past…even though his memory is blurry and distorted, because of amnesia, and he only remembers slightly from images from his nightmares, that often include his dead sister, who he misses so much.

There’s a chance these two will try to kill each other and blood be raining left and right.

But let’s be honest…these two want their constant hells to stop and everything to feel right again.

Ironically and most surprisingly is that these two have the highest chance to cooperate and get MC away from the upcoming shitshow.

I can write about these two for hours ngl. TT

They both need a hug and I think they’ll be good friends somehow.

It was supposed to be angsty, when it comes to them both, but FUCK IT!

They’re their own emotional support and MC is their therapist. I don’t make the rules.

They’re friends now. (You see how much I still adore Toby after all those years and how much Mammon needs comfort, love and THERAPY! LUCI, I’M LOOKING AT YOU! MASKY, I SEE YOU TOO!)

Toby and Mamms are protecting MC with their lives and doing shenanigans together.

Just hope Slenderman doesn’t take control over Toby, because…angst all the way AND I’M NOT READY FOR IT!

(After writing this headcanon I need somebody to make a hurt/comfort fic with these two RIGHT THE HELL NOW! Please, tag me, if you do. I live for this AU now. TT)

Leviathan vs BEN Drowned

If you really thought I wasn’t going to add BEN in here, then you’re so wrong.

Yes, we do have Lost Silver, Sonic.exe, Glitchy Red etc., but I couldn’t resist. (Please, don’t hate me, guys! TT)

When it comes to BEN, it really depends about which one we are talking about. The canonical one, where BEN and Ben are two different things. Or the fanon one, where things can go haywire.

 So, for the sake of not tiring myself further, I’m choosing the fanon one. (But the canon BEN will always be my favorite oop-)

Now in my canon BEN is VERY, VERY competitive, calculative and sadistic.

One of the people he has a soft spot for is MC and when they disappear out of thin air… Sparks of electricity start flying around and he almost causes a fire, that could’ve destroyed his cabin.

(Yes. The Creepypasta live in cabins and not in the mansion. Even the proxies.) Once BEN finds the culprits behind MC’s disappearing thanks to his amazing hacking techniques, motherfucker is ready to throw hands and spill some blood.

On the other hand, Leviathan has dealt with MANY cursed video games before, example in the canon lore. But he has NEVER dealt with or seen something like BEN Drowned himself.

Don’t get me wrong. Levi 100% knows who the entity is. His knowledge about cursed video games in the human realm is enormous and he has definitely heard of the cursed Majora’s Mask cartridge and its host.

The problem is that Leviathan thinks he can beat BEN and destroy him, if it means the demon serpent can keep MC away from being hurt.

Except that he’s totally wrong about the competition he has.

The Avatar of Envy is the best gamer in the Devildom and he can annihilate his opponents in no time, but the drowned Creepypasta he’s facing is something far stronger than what Levi expected.

Like Lucifer and Masky’s situation the moment these two beings meet it’s on sight.

But they take it on a whole new level. They try to kill each other in a digital world they both created, so it can be more fun. It resembles the Devildom, but if the apocalypse happened.

Leviathan, as the sea serpent, uses the water environment to his advantage, hurting the video game entity. He slashes on BEN’s skin and surprisingly blood starts to spill down.

Soon flesh starts to fly around and the demon serpent attempts to drown the undead Link-look-a-like by holding him under the waves, Leviathan is fully aware that Devildom’s sea can actually kill supernatural creatures, if they aren’t careful enough. (Levi can’t be harmed in the waters, because he’s literally the demon serpent from the myths and his element is water. Idk, if it makes sense.)

The envy demon thinks he won, but the moment BEN’s fear of water fully steps into the scene... It’s all going downhill.

Bloody tears sip down on the undead elf’s face with the rusty chains on his limbs moving around like the heads of a furious hydra.

Sparks flying around with cables wrapping around Levi.

The 100 000 voltages aren’t actually the most dangerous part, but the currents, that are passing through Levi’s nervous system and heart, have him screaming and tears running down his face.

Demons can withstand huge amounts of electricity.

But not only BEN’s electric powers are stronger than a normal electric shock, Levi being in water makes it worse and knocks him out immediately, his body still convulsing. The demon got outsmarted.

BEN isn’t here to kill him surprisingly, but to take MC back home with him.

The others may be blood-thirsty, but the undead elf has more braincells than what the others think.

Hey, it could’ve been worse. A controlled proxy maybe.

Except that BEN now needs to deal with angry Lotan and Henry 1.0-

Somebody, help him before he gets thrown around like a ragdoll-

Satan vs Jeff The Killer

Do you really wanna question why I choose these two for this?

The Avatar of Wrath and the always angry smiling cuckoo killer?

Yeah, it’s self-explanatory.

Cat person vs Dog person-

When Satan finds out, that MC works for the Slenderman and about their past, his rage goes up to the sky.

“Nobody is allowed to hurt my MC!”

He almost sounds like Mammon, when saying it out loud.

But he isn’t the only one, that is overprotective of his darling.

Jeff, despite being a piece of shit, is somewhat fond of his MC. (Considering the fact, that he’s 24/7 angry at everybody-)

When he learns, that they were taken away by some demon lord… God forbid the chaos, which will come next.

He was doing so well at not showing, that he’s so head over heels for MC.

Acting all macho and bullshit etc.

 But the moment the news reaches his ears, the walls are crumbling down.

 Chairs, cupboards, beds, KNIVES, hatchets, axes, tables, consoles – you name it.

It’s all either broken or almost completely broken/destroyed/shattered.

Fuck the killing spree he was gonna do and the guts spilling with his maniacal laughter!

Jeff’s legs are already marching towards the Devildom.

 (Dumbass doesn’t know, that he’ll face the most powerful demons next to Zalgo. Dunderhead doesn’t know, that he needs a portal to get there, but leave him to bash his head against a rock-)

Jeff gets eventually to the Devildom, luckily, he’s adjusted to the darkness from the constant nightly human hunts he does for a living,

But gets immediately yoinked into the air and into a wall, leaving a freaking dent into the structure.

The amount of force used to yank him away leaves Jeff with a blurry vision, pounding headache and blood already running down his chin.

The next thing he knows is a tall greenish figure standing above him.

He confuses it at first for BEN and ready to curse him out, but the neon green flames finally catch his attention and wake him up completely.

Jeff has quite the huge phobia of fire, thanks to his past, and almost immediately freaks out, while yelling his lungs out.

 By instinct his infamous knife swings at the figure and leaves a small cut on Satan’s left cheek.

The Avatar of Wrath’s eyes turn completely black with green pupils in the center. The rage overtaking him.

And shit hits the fan quicker than Usain Bolt.

Satan has a death grip around the killer’s neck, trying to choke him until there’s no more oxygen in his lungs or to break his neck like a tiny twig.

Jeff’s legs are kicking desperately and he barely manages to free himself, thanks to the adrenaline entering his body fast.

Trying to regain his breathing, the smiley man barely avoids a firey blow coming from the demon.

His knife hits Sat and actually manages to leave scars on him, blood dripping down onto the ground.

This continues for awhile before the Avatar of Wrath fires out a green fireball and it colliding with Jeff’s body.

In the last moment the killer’s weapon plunges into the demon’s back and the blonde falls on the ground, unconscious and limp.

Jeffrey barely sits up, the adrenaline slowing down and the pain from the burns and wounds hitting his nerve system like a trainwreck. Followed by a scream as he tries to calm himself down.

Jeff may act or look stupid most of the time, but he has braincells, that he knows how to use.

He doesn’t really have time to rest as his eyes widen more (if that’s even possible) in horror, when Satan’s body twitches and the demon’s wounds start to heal up. The criminal’s weapon still in Sat’s back.

Jeff feels for the first time scared and anxious (in his life as a Creepypasta) as he stands up, bare and bloody hands next to his body, reading himself for a gory round 2.

Asmodeus vs Bloody Painter (Helen Otis)

Two beautiful narcissistic beings fighting each other.

MY KNEES ARE WEAK-

Look, guys. I’m a HUGE certified simp for Helen (even tho he looks like a Twilight-look-a-like dude-) and I have a soft spot for Asmo…

I’m not okay. THESE TWO-

Also, I’m using the canon version of Helen from 2017, because YES and because some people forget, that canonically he’s born in 1980- (If you don’t believe me, look it up on his Wiki page.)

He’s still an introvert, but not your typical weak and shy one. Bitch can bend your back like a stick like fuck-

Back to the topic.

We have Asmo  - the Avatar of Lust, the most beautiful demon in the entire Devildom, a narcissist, a huge flirt and overprotective of MC, a captivating being, perfectionist (especially when it comes to his looks), touch starved (Like Helen), needs real love and comfort (Like Helen) and loves beautiful things.

Then we have Helen – literally everything I said about Asmo, but remove the demon and Devildom parts. And just add serial killer, who’s an artist and a hunter-

(In one of his canon animations a guy compliments BP for the deer head, that he got from one of his “beginner” hunts-)

Bloody Painter is also described as a jerk with the front of a gentleman, who also seeks only benefits.

Helen is also canonically agender. (His creator confirmed it in a reblog on Tumblr.)

Helen is VERY self-aware, that he’s good-looking, please.

So having somebody, who’s more beautiful than him, ticks him of slightly. (a lot)

But the glass overflows, when his dear MC vanishes in thin air.

Somebody’s gonna become part of his gory paintings and sculptures REAL SOON.

Unfortunately for our painter, Asmo is pissed off at him thinking, that he can take away MC and be as beautiful as him. NOBODY IS MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN HIM AND NOBODY WILL EVEN LAY A HAND ON AND HURT HIS SWEETHEART!

To say that Asmodeus is pissed off is an understatement by a hundred miles.

The narcissistic killer eventually gets sent in the Devildom, but like Jeff he gets ambushed almost immediately. And his plans go to shit.

The Avatar of Lust puts him under a strong charm and makes him walk towards a tall cliff, under which lay dozens of sharp rocks.

Somehow by pure luck, Helen gets free in time before he can fall to his death and get impaled.

People often mistake him for a slow man in his early forties, but holy shit. He’s flexible and fast as fuck.

Also strong, because in canon Delu (his creator) confirmed, that he has some muscles on.

His fast punches, kicks and knife slices do a fair amount of damage to Asmo and BP’s gun contributes to it.

But the moment Asmo notices, that he ruined his perfect face, Helen better prays to however is out there, because of what’s coming next.

Asmo’s true, TRUE demon form comes out. An eldritch horror mix between a demonic humanoid bat and a scorpion now stands at 9 ft over the serial killer.

Holy shit-

 The demon’s tail wraps around the man’s body and drags him through the ground like a ragdoll left and right. Kicking, stabbing and trying to claw out Otis’s eyes.

The killer feels something plunging into his left leg and notices Asmo’s scorpion tail impaling it and injecting him with venom.

Out of fear, the killer’s usual collected self absolutely breaking apart, he stabs Asmo in his chest and ripping a huge chunk of flesh, blood flowing down like a river.

Otis kicks Asmo in the groin and makes a run to hide somewhere.

The egotistical and confident Helen Otis, The Bloody Painter, is hiding for his life now and trying to think of a plan as Asmo’s angry screech pierces his ears, along with the venom starting to take effect on Helen’s body.

He needs to act quick or things will get even uglier... 

Beelzebub vs Eyeless Jack

The Avatar of Gluttony and the cannibalistic eyeless demon.

Lord, have mercy on me.

I can’t see Beel and EJ killing each other, because golden retriever and grumpy cat energies.

But for this AU I have to. (Yes, Mamms and Toby are an exception… OK. I’ll add ONE fluff part for Beel and Jack’s part. Ok maybe more… Ok! They’re an exception too-)

If these two were friends, Beel will 1000% try to find a way to either turn EJ back to human form (In my headcanons Eyeless is disgusted by his nature and wants to revert back to his human form. “Thank you”, Jenny bitch-)

Or he’ll try to stop his hunger for humans with a spell or a potion with the help of Solomon.

Buddies-

But unfortunately for both of them, this situation requires a bit of…violence.

Let’s get this out the way first: Both are walking brick walls. Both towering over most Creepypasta, humans, angels, humans and other beings at the height of 7’7-8 ft. Both are quiet and don’t speak a lot, except when they’re required to speak.

Both are stoic, but soft on the inside (Except that Beel shows this fluff side of him WAY more-).

And both are scary af, when angered.

So, imagine the chaos, when Eyeless Jack finds out you were kidnapped. HIDE, EVERYBODY! SOMEBODY IS ABOUT TO GO APESHIT!

Now imagine the rage Beel feels, when he learns about your past. RUN, RUN, RUN!

Who said we need Godzilla vs Kong. Beel and EJ fight is gonna destroy everything around them.

The moment these two meet you bet, that the ground is gonna rumble from their force of fighting.

Fuck. It’s not even a fight. It’s a freaking war.

They’re both extremely strong demons and their muscles ripple from the sheer amount of power they have in their bodies as they collide.

Don’t forget, that Beel is the best at the sports in the Devildom, where they’re even harsher than the ones in the human realm.

But Jack is also connected to Chernobog, to who he was sacrificed to, when he was in college. (Fuck you, Jenny.)

So, both have way more strength, speed, stamina, flexibility and agility than everybody else. (Except Diavolo, Slender and some other supernatural creatures of high power.)

Beel uses a death grip on EJ like an anaconda would do and the eyeless demon feels his bones cracking like sticks.

But one headbutt is enough to send Beel onto the ground on his ass.

Never has ever he seen somebody, who can knock him on the ground like that with just their head. Dia is probably the other demon, who can hurt him, but Beelzebub is still baffled by Jack’s strength.

 However, EJ soon receives a harsh punch to the lower jaw + the nose and surely dislocates the jaw, black blood spilling down from his mouth and his nose.

On top of all, the azure ceramic mask, that he had on, is laying down in his feet, broken into many pieces.

Jack exposes his eight tongues, giving Beel a chill down his spine and sinks down his teeth in Beel’s left arm and rips out a good chunk of it. The Avatar of Gluttony barely suppresses his urge to scream.

Jack’s black tar-like tears, that ooze from his empty eye sockets, burn the ginger’s hands and he quickly retracts them back, giving EJ the advantage.

But the dark ashy-grey skinned demon doesn’t take it.

He’s standing there and heavy panting leaving his lungs.

Heck, EJ didn’t even have the chance to use his scalpel, which now lies broken onto the ground. He didn’t even notice when, that happened.

Here’s the thing. Eyeless Jack isn’t dumb at all. He’s one of the smartest people in the entire Creepypasta squad.

And even if he appears cold and apathetic, he can see, that Beel only thinks and does the best for MC and is just protecting them.

“I know, that you want the best for them, giant. I’m the same, despite not showing it, “says Jack, his deep and rumbling voice slicing the silence like a sharp razor.

This makes Beel stop in his tracks, his body freezing like a deer caught in headlights.

“What?”

Even the Avatar of Gluttony can’t process what was just said to him.

“You heard me. This whole fight was stupid and I had to realize that after my face almost got smashed…MC won’t like us getting hurt and you know that. I can sense your overprotectiveness, if that makes sense.”

Beel just nodded, still waiting for EJ to continue his talking.

Jack returns the nod and proceeds. “I’m giving you a choice. Help me get MC away from this shitshow. And to stop this madness. Us killing each other will only hurt them… And I’m saying that as a cannibalistic serial killer demon, who works for the tall noodle arms.”

The ginger thinks for a moment. What Jack offered was something he can’t refuse. If it means MC and his brothers will be ok, then he’s all for it.

“Ok… What’s the plan, um…”

“Just call me Jack for now. Your name, giant?”

“Beelzebub.”

Belphegor vs Kate The Chaser

This one gave me a headache. I didn’t know who the fuck to put for Belphie.

At first, I thought about Jeff, but this option was discarded quickly.

I literally spent two hours thinking about this. No joking.

Then I remembered, that in my headcanons Kate is a freaking insomniac, that wants to sleep desperately.

Being up for hours and working to exhaustion for the Slenderman has messed up her sleeping schedule badly throughout the years.

So, I guess this works too??? Idfk.

But our Kate The Chaser needs more attention, because she’s so underrated. I’m adding her whether you like it or not.

The proxy has been following Slenderman and absolutely despises him, because he took everything from her and her freedom.

Even when she’s so close to drop onto the ground from how tired she is, the insomnia kicks her in the gut.

She’s one of the first ones to find out about Mc’s disappearing and immediately sets off to find them.

She’s not losing another one of her friends. Kate lost way too much already to allow this.

Despite her exhausted state and broken mental health, she puts MC and everybody else before her own needs.

She’s so quiet, that people thought she was mute at some point. She doesn’t show it, but this cold on the outside proxy cares so much about her MC and her friends.

Kate will take an arrow, a bullet, hammer etc. to protect them all.

The proxy in my headcanons has troubles with expressing her emotions and still holds onto that tiny bit of humanity, that she still has inside of her.

Even after years it gives her hope, that she can escape and live a normal life again.

Slenderman’s influence is also the only thing, that keeps her from fainting and the harsher side effects of her insomnia, but ironically makes them worse, because Kate often suffers from splitting headaches.

Unfortunately, her senses have been wonkier, because of her sleep deprivation. She’s still just a human, but slightly enhanced by eldritch powers. Just slightly.

So, when Kate enters the Devildom, the woman doesn’t register, that somebody is already waiting for her and to stop her from approaching MC.

The Avatar of Sloth himself has made an appearance, ignoring his needs to sleep.

Katy isn’t afraid tho, since she has dealt with all types of supernatural shit.

But she’s even surprised at how slowly her body reacts this time, but not that slow, of course.

Again - she’s still average than most humans, thanks to Slender’s influence.

And for Belphegor, if some people still think he’s too tired and weak for this shit… I have two words to say.

Lesson 16.

Happy war flashbacks! :)

Belphie learned from Beel about Mc’s past and the Slenderman…and if you think angry Beel is scary, well…

Belphie might overpass Slenderman and EJ, when it comes to being scary, when angered.

The dark aura around him gives Kate chills down her spine and even makes her take a few steps back.

He does try to knock her out, but even at the edge of collapsing her body reacts quite well.

A stab wound finds itself inside his chest and a guttural growl escapes his lips.

Blood, his blood, covering her hands.

After a bit of dodging his attacks, unfortunately for her, Kate’s balance betrays her and meets face first with the ground.

Using the last bits of strength she has, her arms push her up, but only for the proxy’s body to collapse in the dirt again.

The Avatar of Sloth has her pinned down and his arms quickly go around her neck to choke the living shit out of her.

Kicking, scratching and struggling to get off of the demon, Kate finally makes a proper eye contact with him and he finally sees the absolute breaking point of her will.

Her mask tossed aside, revealing her dark eyebags and the exhaustion written on her face.

Her strength failing her and Kate’s body screaming for rest and for this madness to stop at last.

Belphie can notice, that her will is small, but still there, while fighting to continue.

Her bravery, despite being human, but slightly enhanced.

 The demon can easily crush her ribcage, neck, skull etc.

But he, for some freaking stupid goddamn reason, can’t do it.

Kate claws at his hands and coughs, because of the grip around his neck, while tears are threatening to spill down her face.

She must look so defenseless and dumb like that.

The next thing though surprises her a lot.

Tim - Dick

Tim's favorite sibling but also favorite person ever is unquestionably, undoubtedly Dick. This boy adores his big brother. He's full-on obsessed with him.

Even before Dick and Tim met again, Tim started working out just so he could be like his idol. Tim literally says to Dick "My grades are okay but I studied because I wanted to just like you."

You know what they say about idols and pedestals and never meeting your heroes? The opposite is true for Tim about Dick. After meeting Dick for the second time, his idol worship grew so much it shattered every ceiling in existence.

Tim loves him so so much. People sometimes misunderstand and think that Tim hated Dick when he fired him from Robin but it wasn't hate that Tim felt. It was jealousy. Jealousy over Dick choosing Damian over him.

Tim even solely used the Red Robin persona for the mere reason that he didn't want to dirty Dick's Robin by stigmatizing it with his less ethical actions.

Damian - Dick

Obviously. The only reason I said Tim was the easiest is because Tim's inner and outer thoughts about Dick can be complied to create volumes of fanbooks of flowing poetry about him. Damian on the other hand is more of a tsundere, but there's still only one person who he loves aside from his father and even more than.

Like actually I can't pick out one person Duke likes the best. You're either on his wavelength or he's snarking you off it. He's the type of guy where everyone likes him and he's chilling by himself, doing whatever he wants.

Jason - Dick

Out of the batkids who did deal with Jason during his worst phase, Dick is unilaterally his favorite. Sometimes when I think about Jason's relationship with Bruce, I'm reminded of how much Jason and Bruce are alike sometimes because Jason's view on Dick is almost identical to Bruce's view on Dick and they even have similar reactions. We all know that Bruce hero-worships Dick. Time and time again, Bruce emphasizes, stresses, and talks about how amazing Dick is and how he's so much better than him, and constantly places Dick on a pedestal. The issue comes when Dick doesn't want to do what Bruce wants him to do because he believes that Dick is an extension of himself, his better half, and he's furious when Dick doesn't follow or accept what he's doing because Dick should know what Bruce is trying to do because he's supposed to be better than him, how dare he stop him, etc.

Jason acts in similar ways to Dick. There's a whole issue where Jason gets fear gassed and one of his biggest fears is Dick. More specifically, it's about how amazing Dick is and never living up to him because in Jason's eyes, Dick is absolutely perfect. There is no one better than him because he is the peak of everything. He places Dick on the highest pedestal there is and he kind of safeguards Dick there in his heart. He used to get really angry because he believes Dick is the best but also refuses to let Dick be anything other than the best. The best way I have to explain them is Jason holding Dick prisoner as a result of his hero worship.

Once Jason is slightly calmer, his relationship dynamics with everyone became really clear, as well as what he thinks of them and it's shown how the way he treats Dick is just different.

In this scene, it's pretty obvious that Jason loves Dick a lot but he's obviously not going to be all fuzzy feelings about it because he likes to be edgy. Jason's a little confusing in general for people to understand because they expect him to be nice and open but Jason's not nice, he's just nicer to the people he likes. Once we start understanding that, he becomes clearer.

So in canon, just for the Iliad and the Odyssey, Menelaus is often portrayed as a quiet, shy even, and I would even go so far as to call him gentle, man. (It's kind of a collective fanon headcanon that Menelaus is austistic coded based on his behavior in the texts) It's something really interesting that one of his epithet's is "War Loving" and yet, he's one of the more "peaceful" kings there.

Adrestus rolled out of the chariot beside the wheel, face down in the dirt. Menelaus, son of Atreus,                        stood there over him, holding his long-shadowed spear. Adrestus clutched Menelaus by the knees and begged: “Take me alive, son of Atreus—you’ll get good ransom. My father is a wealthy man, owns lots of things—bronze, silver, well-worked iron. So he’ll give you a splendid ransom, if he learns I’m by Achaean ships, alive.”                             Adrestus pleaded. Menelaus’s heart in his chest was moved. He was about to hand Adrestus to his attendant, to take back captive to the fast Achaean ships.           But then Agamemnon came running up to him, sharply criticizing Menelaus:  “Menelaus, you soft-hearted man, why are you sparing men’s lives like this? In your own home, Trojans treated you exceptionally well, did they not? So don’t let any one of them evade a terrible destruction at our hands— not even the young child still carried in his mother’s belly. Let no one escape.                         Let everyone in Troy be slaughtered, without pity, without leaving any trace.”

Like the main reason WHY Menelaus is fighting this war in the first place and fighting so hard, is because he just wants Helen back. Literally the most "violent" we've seen Menelaus is, imo, during his fight with Paris, the man who kidnapped Helen and is forcing himself upon her. As he literally starts DRAGGING Paris by his helmet on the ground. And when Paris offers Treasure in place of Helen, Diomedes' declines on his (and technically all the other Achaeans') behalf as Menelaus was injured.

And if you've looked at the bolded links I put above, you'll see how Helen also desperately does not want to be there and just wants to go back home, missing Menelaus and their daughter, Hermione.

And with Helen, she literally basically tells Paris that since he would've lost the fight with Menelaus, therefore would've been killed, if not for Aphrodite, that he should kill himself because that's what's honorable.

“You’ve come back from the fight. How I wish   you’d died there, killed by that strong warrior who was my husband once. You used to boast you were stronger than warlike Menelaus,  more strength in your hands, more power in your spear. So go now, challenge war-loving Menelaus to fight again in single combat. I’d suggest you stay away. Don’t fight it out man to man with fair-haired Menelaus, without further thought. You might well die, come to a quick end on his spear.”

I honestly fucking love how Helen straight up says to Paris' face that she wished Menelaus killed him. Deserved.

In some ways, I think Paris is a very neat contrast to Menelaus in how Paris left his wife and child behind to start a life with a new "better" wife, while Menelaus is willing to go to war to bring the wife he loves so much back home, safe and happy, with him. Menelaus can't even think of the idea of just "starting anew".

And in the Odyssey, it's just... It's just so sweet seeing how these two interact when Telemachus goes to Sparta to talk to them. Helen is no longer in tears, and while she's still dealing with her self-loathing and guilt, so does Menelaus. They share this burden together and are very gentle with each other. The way she's back to being so happy and hosting as a happy Queen and wife should, is so SO different from how we see Helen in the Iliad, as she's finally happy, safe, and at home. 😭

Like, please look at how silly these two are when they see Telemachus:

Right away she started speaking to her husband, asking him some detailed questions:                                   “Do we know, my divinely cherished Menelaus, who these two men who’ve come into our home claim to be? Shall I speak up and pretend, or shall I tell the truth? My heart tells me                            I must be frank. I can’t say I’ve ever seen                            someone who looks so much like someone else, whether man or woman. When I see it, I’m amazed—this man looks just like the son of brave Odysseus—I mean Telemachus, who, when he left home, was a new-born child, when, because I’d acted so disgracefully, you Achaeans all sailed away to Troy, your hearts intent on brutal warfare.” Fair-haired Menelaus then answered her and said: “This likeness you’ve just noticed, my dear wife,               I’ve seen, as well. His feet are similar, as are his hands, the glances from his eyes,                                              his head, and his hair on top. And just now, as I was remembering Odysseus, discussing all the troubles he’d endured because of me, he let a bitter tear fall from his eyes and raised the purple cloak across his face.”

Like??? She feels free to speak and state her mind because she IS free with Menelaus. She feels respected and loved in her own house and is the queen to his king and slkdjf kljdsfalj THEY'RE HAPPYYYYYY

In the Odyssey also, it was she who interpreted the omen that Telemachus and Pesistratus even though Menelaus was asked to interpret it! ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HER HAPPILY BEING A QUEEN AND HER AND HER WORDS BEING RESPECTED.

Menelaus, for all his warlike qualities, was at a loss to give him the correct interpretation, and his beautiful wife forestalled him. 'Listen,' she said, 'while with such inspiration as I have I explain this omen and what I feel sure that it portends. [...]

LOOK AT EURIPIDES' HELEN

Like to me, these two in canon are kind of "opposites attract" while OdyPen are "Likeminded". As Helen is definitely one to chatter more and Menelaus is perfectly fine letting Helen talk for him.

And while young, Menelaus and Agamemnon after their father, Atreus, was killed by their uncle, they had to flee Mycenae to stay safe and were exiled. And where did they stay during this time?

In Sparta, WITH TYNDAREUS AND LEDA, HELEN'S PARENTS >:3

And with most depictions of Menelaus and Odysseus when getting married to Helen and Penelope, both are usually beardless, implying youth/same age. So I love the idea of them being childhood friends to lovers. (that's just MY interpretation though) It's part of the reason why Helen picked him out of all the suitors (though yeah, another interpretation)

AND look at this depiction of them reunitiing!!!

So for the context for this specific version/interpretation of them reuniting, he has just killed Deiphobus, Paris' brother that Helen went to after Paris died, (Troy was fated to fall, if Helen was returned, Menelaus and the other Achaeans would go home and Troy would be left alone, so... Fate interfered with Helen even possibly going home) and she was in the room when it happened. Helen, being somewhat scared that Menelaus would try to kill her, started to run. (That's Helen on the Right, the left is supposed to be Aphrodite, who, while she did keep Helen in Troy for Paris, is still the goddess of love. So that's why she's there.)

BUT LOOK HOW HE TOSSED HIS SWORD TO THE SIDE TO RUN TO HER?! 😭

In general, I love the dynamics that play into their relationship AND how their relationship even plays with other characters like OdyPen. I'm not as detailed with their lives as I am with my OdyPen, they're still heavily involved in my ideas and they're all very close. They go on double dates!

Heck, since I have the whole "childhood friends" stuff in my stuff, Helen, Menelaus, Penelope, Castor, and Deiphobus all grew up together and were kind of a goofy lil crew :3 (I have aged up Clytemnestra to work with my Agamemnon more with how I have my timeline work out :') The timeline is a mess and this is how I'm making it work)

Like, My OdyPen are my "Freak4Freak, Likeminded, ADHD, squirming, wriggling, giggling, nuzzling noses and constantly moving and chattering" couple while my MenHelen are my "Slow and relaxed, long kisses, Helen chatters while Menelaus listens, Menelaus is Helen's weighted blanket person who eases her anxiousness with his quiet demeanor, staring at each other with big eyes." couple 🥹

A Very Rambling Rant about Alhaitham and Aranara

Sigh. Everyone on twitter is all excited over this idea that Alhaitham can see aranara, and I don't mean to be downer but like... I kind of hate this. Not the idea of Alhaitham seeing aranara, which is very cute, very nice, yes, but more the way this kind of thing unfolds.

It's a classic example of unconfirmed material, extraneous to the actual game, getting put out on social media like it's canon: Someone tweets "ALHAITHAM CAN SEE ARANARA!!" and suddenly it's running rampant in the fandom and people are completely convinced it's canonically true, without the actual game or any confirmed story-relevant materials genuinely supporting the idea. This is exactly how misinformation gets spread. (I'm looking at you, "Jade enslaved Aventurine" Star Rail fandom brainrot.)

And it's this "bandwagon canon" that leads to constant issues in the fandom when people point out that even some widely accepted stuff is actually fanon. People are literally vicious over defending things that don't actually have any evidence in the game itself.

I really wish this fandom was better at distinguishing "This thing is factually true" and "This is a really cool idea and there might be a few hints for it! I'm going to make this my headcanon!" Watching stuff in fandom go un-fact-checked genuinely makes me terrified for people's ability to fact check real world issues sometimes!

Not to mention the way this conversation is happening is just really unpleasant too?

I saw multiple tweets with thousands of likes going around saying things like "Of course Alhaitham can still see the aranara; he has child-like wonder while Kaveh is traumatized and had to grow up too fast, so it makes sense he can't see them."

Which like... This is so gross to me? Are these people just missing the massive unfortunate implications of their own words--the idea that traumatized people can't experience wonder for the world anymore? That they're somehow broken and can't experience any child-like joy??? It's a deeply unpleasant take to me.

And not only that, it directly contradicts actual canon, because Yoimiya's entire second story quest was about a girl going through a traumatic illness that confined her to a wheelchair and led to her experiencing guilt and depression--and about helping her to see that everything that made life worth living was still there for her, and that she had never lost her wonder or will to live in the first place.

And the whole thing just smacks of a fundamental misunderstanding of why adults can't see the aranara in the first place. It's not because there's some sort of magical "You must be 18 or younger to see aranara" rule. It's because the aranara themselves choose not to be seen by adults. They protect themselves by making themselves invisible. They're not invisible by nature! Everyone can see them--when the aranara want to be seen. Conversely, this means that adults with "childlike wonder" are not just automatically seeing aranara left and right. No matter how happy and childish at heart an adult is, they will only see an aranara if the aranara personally trust them and want to be seen.

The aranara trust children because children are generally good-hearted (and also probably easy to escape from), so there is usually no need to keep themselves invisible to children, but even among children, they are invisible until they choose to be seen. (I think everyone forgot the quest where you find the child who was kidnapped by the Fatui in the forest, saved by an aranara who chose to reveal itself to her, but then she refuses to go back to the village, so you leave her at the aranara nursery--only the aranara there at the nursery choose not to reveal themselves to her because they don't know her yet.) Even with children, aranara don't just go running up on them--they're incredibly cautious creatures who only show themselves after they're sure they'll be safe. They distrust adults because adults deliberately use "growing up" as an excuse to abandon simplicity, kindness, and gentleness in order to embrace concepts that include getting ahead of others and seeking profit--two things which could be particularly dangerous for a vulnerable forest fairy population.

There's also an extremely complicated intersection between the aranara and memory, as they represent and upon "death" return to being the forest's living memory itself. Avin, the girl in Yoimiya's story quest, is a child--but still loses the ability to visit her aranara companion because her illness keeps her away from the forest so long that she simply forgets her aranara buddy ever existed. Even aranara who would love to continue playing with their human companions find themselves forgotten over and over again, because they simply don't linger in human memory well. It's a giant metaphor for how fleeting and temporary human existence is in comparison to the natural world! It's a metaphorrrrrrr.

(There's also the fact that aranara freely move between reality and dreaming--something which Sumeru's adult population only recently regained the ability to even do.)

And like... does no one remember that Yoimiya could only see the aranara because Traveler was there to introduce her to them? She doesn't just automatically see them even though she has all the childish wonder possible in her heart.

I even saw tweets saying that anyone who thinks Alhaitham doesn't have child-like wonder in his heart and wouldn't automatically be able to see aranara fundamentally misunderstands his character and I just... First, see the point above--this is already a misunderstanding of how aranara work.

Second, am I just crazy, or is there absolutely nothing about having wonder and curiosity and passion for the world around you that is confined to children? Are we really going with "Having an imagination is for kids" as our takeaway from all this?

Alhaitham absolutely is passionate! He loves Sumeru as much as Nahida does! The mysteries of the world fascinate him, and he wants to be doing nothing more than ravenously learning and taking in new information at every opportunity!

But finding wonder and joy in life's mysteries is absolutely not restricted to children!

There's nothing inherently "childish" about loving fiction and the fantastical world of books, having a vivid imagination, being passionate about learning new things, and just plain out enjoying life. I'm sorry everyone else has apparently become such miserable adults that the only way they can believe Alhaitham finds joy in the world is by assuming he must have maintained a "child-like" inner nature. Please go read more books and touch more grass and maybe you too will experience adult wonder and joy???

Alhaitham's vivid curiosity about the world isn't remotely "child-like." It's based on the same sort of philosophical obsessions that drove Plato and Aristotle to redefine human thinking. To Alhaitham, Sumeru is likely much more vivid and beautiful and full of intrigue because he is now an adult who has the ability to freely think, formulate deeper questions, and the means to pursue research into his personal passions. His teaser trailer is literally about how he took the job of the Scribe because the Scribe records truth--not child-like faith in the magic of the world, but a constant unfilled yearning to get closer and closer to what is real.

If Alhaitham can see aranara, it's because he's earned the trust of the aranara by his deeds, not because he's secretly still an innocent, sweet baby boy deep down who has chosen not to grow up. (And like, if "traumatized people don't see aranara" is really what we're going with, are we actually arguing Kaveh is the only traumatized, "grew up too soon" one here? Did everyone just forget Alhaitham is an orphan with zero surviving family members left in the world and that he spent his entire childhood friendless, at least as far as we've been shown?)

Winning the trust of the aranara is something anyone could do if they show strong enough positive traits--just basic kindness, gentleness, and patience, which I promise you, adults can have.

At the very least, if we're going to suggest Alhaitham is child-like, can't we at least point to his actual childish behaviors, such as constantly pulling Kaveh's pigtails like a schoolboy with his first crush? Throwing hands with anyone who pisses him off too much? Being a jokester who continually sends Paimon books because she picked on him for his choice of reading materials once? At least y'all could have started there... Come on, now.

Phew, this really was a whole rant, but I just needed to get that off my chest. The Hoyo fandoms on twitter are so, so bad. Like man, don't claim people are mischaracterizing someone while not even knowing the lore yourself... Sorry if that sounds harsh, but...

He would never lay his hands on you. He would never disrespect you. Any man try to do anything to you, Arthur would go ballistic. He'd always defend his wife from disrespect. He would always carry your luggage. He would always be a gentleman and assist you in getting on a horse or a wagon. He'd make sure you're comfortable in any way he can. He would never want you to over exert yourself. He would love you to the point of devotion and given how his devotion works for the gang, it'd be priceless. He'd make sure to treat you to the fullest on every date. He'd want to impress you. He would love you most ardently and most fully. If he had sons, he'd make sure to always set a good example on how men should treat their wives/partners.

Very sweet, I know, but again- this is in the context of the 1800s.

I think Arthur, give his attitudes regarding gender roles, would be suited with a woman who believes in the same thing, which given the time period wasn't rare.

Arthur would protect, provide, and do all the traditional things that men were expected to do and he'd do them well enough to where you would never have to worry about things like money, protection, or him taking care of you and honoring you. He'd love you to devotion.

But where he'd do a man's duty, he'd expect you to do the woman's duty, and just how he'd love you to devotion, he'd expect the same. He would never let you do "men's work" if he can help it, unless y'all are living in a super tough environment where you would need to help him here and there, but he'd still do the vast majority of the hard work, and he'd expect a clean place to live, food, and all that domestic stuff from you. If the both of you are able to connect with that dynamic, than Arthur would honestly be a phenomenal husband. He'd be the model husband in the traditional relationship.

I also think respect would be a big thing too. You'd probably both tease each other and love it, but there has to be respect and understanding otherwise he would go off. Note how quick he was able to go off and raise his voice at Mary when she started disrespecting his life style yet chooses to want to use the skills he attained from that lifestyle to help her with her father. He also does it in public where everyone could hear and he only stops when he sees that it was deeply distressing to Mary after she asks him to be kind to her. I realized pretty quick that Arthur is not as patient or pacified as John when Abigail chews into him.

However, I also think he'd be very understanding and open minded to you if you seriously want to talk to him. Communication would be key between both of you and he'd try to understand your thoughts as best as he can and try to make you happy if he could, but again, he'd also expect the same of you.

It's a two way street in different ways. That's the best way I can put it. He'd love you to devotion, given that both of you are comfortable and happy with that traditional dynamic. Arthur would protect you, provide for you, make sure you are always comfortable and never destitute, and in return, he'd expect you to be there for him.

Mark Oshiro confuses me a little bit not going to lie. In the press tour for the first book all they ever talked about was how Nico is their son and Will is fine I guess. Then they said like 2 weeks before TSATS came out that they didn't understand Will's character at all and it's one of the main reasons why Will has so little POV.

Possibly unpopular opinion but I don't think it's a good, encouraging sign when the writer admits to not really caring about the deuteragonist or not even having a sense of how to write them...

Yeah, no. If you have no interest in 1/2 of the POV characters of your book, you REALLY shouldn't be writing it (or at least, not have that be a main character). Especially when the main way TSATS could have been improved is if it was primarily Will-centric instead of Nico-centric. Will basically had next to no established character prior to TSATS! He was practically a blank slate! But all the new stuff we got for Will in TSATS was so clearly disinterested and had no regard for his previously established traits (or the established timeline/canon). Which is annoying because fleshing out Will would have been the PERFECT opportunity to actually incorporate a lot of the topics that Mark Oshiro specializes in as a sensitivity reader, which was the ENTIRE REASON THEY WERE BROUGHT ON AS A CO-AUTHOR!!!!

As TSATS stands, there is no reason for Mark Oshiro specifically to have been the co-author instead of someone else. It's so clearly just a PR move from RR following the huge backlash Rick received due to his response to criticism on how he wrote Piper and Samirah (and Reyna and etc etc). This was immediately following Rick saying he wasn't going to write what would become TSATS because "it [wasn't his] place to." Most of the topics that Mark Oshiro specializes in either weren't relevant at all to TSATS or written very poorly (to downright offensively) in TSATS, so either Mark Oshiro wasn't doing their job or was not able to do their job for some reason, but either way it basically makes the theoretical justification for Mark Oshiro being the co-author/sensitivity reader irrelevant.

With Will, it was HUGE fanon back in the day for him to be trans. Trans!Will and photokinesis!Will were basically the two biggest headcanons for him (both largely popularized by Cherryandsisters). We know Rick is aware of this old fanon because he canonized photokinesis!Will. If we had gotten trans!Will, that would have been great! And then made sense why we specifically got a trans co-author! (Instead, if anything, TSATS canonized Will being cis.) If we had gotten Will being latino, that would have been amazing!!!! And also then made sense as to why they chose Mark Oshiro for the job as a latinx author/sensitivity-reader, versus potentially choosing an Italian co-author since Nico being Italian/Venetian was emphasized so much in the book (and done poorly! Yknow what they could have done to fix that? GOTTEN A SENSITIVITY READER FOR IT)! Based on the themes and focuses actually present in the book, it would have been most logical to get a queer, neurodivergent, Italian co-author or sensitivity reader who specializes in those three topics at least. But we didn't! So why was Mark Oshiro chosen instead when they only specialize in one of those topics? PR reasons. It's blatantly entirely PR reasons and no actual thought or care was put into this book (or, likely, TSATS 2 either).

It doesn't help that we're also actively being told that the published version of TSATS was a rough draft. Or that their editor blatantly isn't doing her job. Or that "The Sun And The Star" was the working title that they just kept cause they didn't bother to make an actual title. And that the final version is full of explicitly last-minute scenes that weren't checked over at all (the final Bianca scene, for one). Or the ACTIVELY ADMITTING TO SOURCING IDEAS AND INFORMATION FROM FANS! That last one is kind of important because at this level of publishing that is a HUGE no-no for legal reasons. You can get into a lot of trouble for that and there is a reason why it is Ye Olde Fandom Law to never try to pitch your ideas or headcanons to the source creator(s) and keep fandom separate from the creators. There is a REASON why Rick Riordan is so distant from the community these days and it's for PROTECTION AGAINST LEGAL REPERCUSSION. Mark Oshiro being the exact opposite while also ACTIVELY ACKNOWLEDGING sourcing concepts from fans does not bode well! It has to do with copyright stuff.

It's just. So. Sighhhhhhhh >->o <- me lying on the floor about all of this. It's sad being able to see the glimmer of what could have been at the very least a decent book underneath all this. If anyone involved in the process had actually cared just the tiniest amount.

okay, so if you follow me on tiktok you’re probably already aware of where this rant is going because i’ve spoken a bit about this on there, but i really need people to understand that fandom operates on a ‘don’t like; don’t read’ basis.

you can dislike/hate headcanons/ships/characters/fics/etc in this fandom (i have ships and hcs i dislike, and that’s okay, everyone is allowed to have different opinions and preferences) but the issue comes in when you take that dislike towards something and post about it publicly; when instead of ranting to your close friends, you put it on social media and/or hate on other people for liking/engaging with that thing. by posting about your hatred of something, that could a) be someone’s first impression of the thing and that can lead to them not forming their own opinion on it (i know this happened to me, my first interaction with one of the popular fics was negative and so i automatically disliked it rather than forming my own opinion on it), and/or b) upset them or make them feel bad about liking that very thing. this is detrimental to fandom as fandom spaces are supposed to be about creativity, sharing ideas, and a safe place.

the issue gets worse when, instead of just posting about the hatred on your own page, you go into the comments sections of other people’s posts. whether it be an edit/skit/etc that the person has made, they made it for free and out of passion for whatever the contents is. i’m going to use jegulus for this example because it’s a popular ship but this issue can apply to all ships (and more so applies to rarepairs), by commenting things such as “jegulus is a monstrosity of a ship” or “in canon this would never work” or “jegulus ruined this fandom” (which btw, it didn’t, no ship can “ruin a fandom” whatever that means) you’re actively making people NOT want to create content for this fandom and actively making people feel bad for things that they shouldn’t have to feel bad about.

moreover, this fandom seems to really care about characterisations of characters and i have three things to say on this. 1) we do not know enough about the majority of these characters to be able to mischaracterise them and the characters we do know about, we meet when they’re in their thirties and have been through copious amounts of trauma and a whole war to get to this point, they are bound to be different in their teenage years than they are in thirties. 2) the majority of this fandom is fanon and that’s the joy of it, everyone can have different opinions and headcanons and people can take inspiration from each other. if everyone characterised the characters exactly the same the fandom would be so boring and everything would just be a copy and paste of each other. 3) arguing over headcanons, especially stuff like “fem vs masc sirius” can have real life consequences. by saying that someone making sirius feminine makes him “less of a man” or “straightens wolfstar” you’re actively opening the floor for transphobia and homophobia and, as a transmasc who presents femininely and is in a relationship with a man, are you saying that our relationship is now “straight” or that i’m a woman purely because of how i present? please, let that sit with you before you argue over these headcanons again. if you don’t think the marauders boys would wear skirts, scroll or click off of the fic. (also btw, not everything has to be time accurate, that’s the joy of AUs).

furthermore, fanfiction is created for FREE. you do not get to criticise and hate on a fanfic like you do with published literature. fanfic writers have written fanfics for you out of passion with nothing in return other than kudos or comments, they are not making profit off of fanfiction (which would be illegal if they somehow were) and it is NOT their job like how it is with published authors. by hating on fanfics (no matter how popular or untouchable you believe them to be), you are actively discouraging people from writing their own and who knows — that could’ve been your new favourite fanfic. furthermore, a lot of ships lack fanfics because people are scared to interact with anything other than wolfstar and jegulus because of the hate that rarepairs get. there’s plenty of amazing ships out there that have so much potential but people are too scared to create for because of the hate/backlash they may get for creating for that ship.

all in all, like what you want and don’t like what you want, but don’t make it everyone else’s problem and if you don’t like something, scroll. thank you.

This probably isn’t the right place to ask, but is it normal to just feel a little uncertain about how you view the show now after hearing so much stuff about it or having seen a lot of fan material that elevate the source material?

It just feels weird to rewatch a little of the show that I kind of don’t do that anymore or let it play in the background.

That's super normal, especially in large fandoms where the fan content vastly outweighs the canon content. There are literally millions of words of Miraculous fic out there. You can read a new story a day and still have thousands left because there are currently 73K fics on AO3. That's over 200 years of fics! An episode a day will take you about half a year. If you're the kind of person who likes to read fanfic or participate in fan discussions, then it's not shocking that you're at risk of getting a warped view of canon because of the way fanon often works.

It's pretty common to see fanon go where canon never dared to tread. This can lead to an interesting disconnect between super fans and canon where popular fanon takes get treated like canon by fans as those takes just straight up consume the fandom. Then you go back to canon and it's jarring because you've spend so much time in fanon that you've internalized all that fanon, creating this alternate, idealized view of the source that has no real backing in the text.

You've got an Avengers logo as your profile pic and I was in that fandom for a while, so let's use that as an easy example. Avengers fanon is found family central! Fans love to bond the team because of course they do! Superhero teams generally should be found families! But canon never actually did that, so watching the movies after reading some fics can be disheartening because you're suddenly reminded that canon never gave us a found family. That's just in your head and the heads of many other fans.

Miraculous does this to an extreme with Ladynoir. Read some fanfics and you can internalize this idea that they're partners like no other with a close bond of love and trust. Then you go watch canon and it's like, oh, right, that never actually happened in the actual show. Ooops. Time to readjust my expectations for the new season.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's generally a reflection of people longing for something that the source will never give them so they go, "fine, I'll do it myself!" And can lead to wonderful things that bring us great joy because you're rarely alone in that longing! But if you're finding that kind of joy in fanon, I've found that it often - but not always! - means that you probably didn't like canon as much as you thought you did.

I know that I personally only seek out fan content when something about canon is lacking. I don't seek out fan content for works I adore because canon is giving me everything I want. Sometimes the thing that's lacking is pretty minor, sometimes it's a major flaw in the source. When it's a minor flaw, fanon is just there to patch a few cracks and I'm still happy to enjoy canon. When it's a major flaw or major flaws? Fanon is my canon now.

That "fanon is my canon now" take only becomes a bad thing when we start blaming the creators for not giving us the things we internalized from fanon, which can and does happen when the fanon disconnect becomes more extreme. Like when fanon takes a character and warps them into a new version of themself with only minor backing in the text. That's always an especially jarring thing to come across.

Miraculous isn't too bad about that one, but there are certainly popular fanon takes that don't come from canon like Marinette keeping the identities a secret because she's afraid that Chat Noir will be disappointed by plain old Marinette compared to the amazing and cool Ladybug. I don't think that's a huge stretch for a potential conflict, but it's got almost no backing in the actual text. Canon Marinette keeps her secret identity for safety reasons and she's generally pretty confident in her role as Ladybug. But if you've read a bunch of fics with secret-identities-only-exist-because-I'm-insecure Marinette and fallen in love with that concept? Then it's gonna be hard to watch canon and follow the actual conflict.

This was a bit of a ramble, but hopefully it was reassuring! I totally get where you're coming from and find it particularly hard for media that you genuinely loved at one point. I never loved Miraculous, but I had genuine hopes for The Avengers and still feel a little sad that the MCU never gave us any found family content outside of the opening of Ultron. It makes it less fun to rewatch even the good movies knowing that it will never deliver the things I was hoping for.

Fanon Ship children are good, very interesting to write and characterize. But what about ship pets?? What about two charecters becoming so emotionally attached to a creature that their life literally molds around it??

Cus I can't stop thinking about Ratio having a pet cat that he'd name something so goofy and serious that it's funny. Something like Theorem of Ptolemy (Theo for short) and the cat would be the most reserved girlie ever. Doesn't give a fuck about anyone, not even Ratio most if the time, and Ratio would treat her like she is a grown human, would talk to her like she is just another work colleague and she'd not even meow back at him. It's fine though, she keeps him company and after his parents the cat is the only thing he is most attached to.

Until the Annoying Gambler comes into his life Ofcourse, suddenly he has another person to care for. And just when he thinks his life is the most affected by Aventurine, the gambler comes over for whatever business stuff they are to discuss one day, and Theo suddenly has multiple Fucks to give. She'd not go near him at first, but that hasn't really stopped Aventurine, ever, so he'd try to warm up to her. And it would so backfire. Like she's now falling asleep on his lap and trapping him in one place for hours level backfire. She MUST stick to him the whole time he is over at Ratio's. Would hijack his coat but loafing up on top of it and forcing him to leave it behind.

Ratio would stand there and feel betrayed af. And he wouldn't even know who is he most jealous of, Aventurine cus that cat has never given /him/ the same amount of attention, or Theo cus he himself has never been able to shower that Gambler with that much attention. He'd grumble and would try to ignore the obvious warmth in his chest cus- two of his most favourite beings love each other???? Also soft aventurine, the real kind. Cus who wouldn't absolutely melt at a Cat.

Now, I had all of this in my mind before 2.2 so I'm only a bit salty that hoyo alr made it canon that aventurine acquires the catcakes and we all sort fo agreed that it was Ratio who gifted him those. And now my headcanons is somehow sort of canon :| but yeah, I still wanted to get this brainrot out of my head so 😋

Oh hi thanks for the ask! I don't typically talk about my more fanon ideas because I usually like to do analysis/theories of the canon material, so most of the time I write my headcanons and stuff into my fics or whatnot but! I'm totally happy to talk about some of them!

-More so a theory I'll die on the hill of but I do think Luocha is an Emanator, I have a post explaining my evidence here! It's not the most fleshed out because it was one of my first posts on here but yeah!

-One of my big Luocha headcanons is the flowers blooming out of his hair according to his emotions. He's considered an Abomination of Yaoshi, a term only really used for Mara-struck, and the Mara-struck typically have mutations of like ginkgo brances/leaves growing from their bodies. I think it'd make sense if Luocha also displayed Mara symptoms in his own weird way!

-I like to think Luocha can kinda "eat/digest" Mara. To me, Mara reads like a weird combination of rabies and chronic wasting disease. Vultures are a favorite bird of mine and they have extremely strong stomach acid, strong enough to digest rabies. They help manage the spread of rabies because of this and I can see Luocha's body functioning a similar way with Mara. Something percieved as scary or gross (Emanator of the Abundance/a scavenger that eats predominantly dead animals) but being essential to the managing of a healthy ecosystem because they perform a thankless task.

-Jing Yuan has crows feet. Even though the Xianzhou people don't really age past a certain point and their bodies stay that way no matter what (see: Dan Shu and her explanation of disabilities on the Xianzhou which is incredibly interesting) he is 721-ish years old and he smiles a lot. I think it'd be sweet to see evidence of that, that despite everything he still can smile so much it leaves little lines of joys in his face.

-Jing Yuan to me is more of an acts of service guy (His being General shows his love for the Luofu because taking care of its people is the ultimate act of service). I think Jingliu was also more of an acts of service person because to her fighting was all she lived for, for a while, so her showing love is wielding her sword for somebody (like wielding it against Baiheng to free her). I think that's a way Jing Yuan kinda embodies her yaknow? As for Luocha, he's more a quality time person. He's a traveler who doesn't really have anywhere permanent to call home so he likes to soak up as much time with the people he loves as he can before he's forced to move on again. He also likes receiving gifts because they're momentos of those people he can carry with him.

-I think Luocha would like to garden but he's never had a permanent place to do so, so when they get together he just takes over Jing Yuan's garden (which is suffering due to Jing Yuan's busy schedule) and rules it with an iron fist. The neighbors are jealous.

-I saw this post propose that Jing Yuan might be half Foxian and I really love that idea so that's something I like to chew on

-Both Luocha and Jing Yuan are strategic people and Luocha is one of the few people who have successfully outsmarted Jing Yuan so I imagine their enrichment is playing strategic games together. Western chess (my beloved), General's chess, Go, etc. I imagine Luocha is better at western chess and Jing Yuan at Go and General's chess, simply bc those were the games they were raised with.

-Luocha runs cold and Jing Yuan runs hot. Adding to that, if Luocha is an Emanator, he's probably stuck in this pseudo-death limbo so I imagine he's cooler to the touch. Meanwhile, Jing Yuan is very alive and pretty active, therefore warmer to the touch. Jing Yuan likes to nap resting on Luocha because it's like having a cool pillow and Luocha likes it because Warm. He would also like to tease Jing Yuan by putting his cold hands on the back of his neck or something and make Jing Yuan jump due to not expecting it.

-Being General is a demanding and exhausting job. I can imagine Jing Yuan doesn't really spend a lot of time on self-care in that aspect. He has a planet-ship to run after all so he probably doesn't care too much about what shampoo or soap he uses. Luocha is appalled and uses his connections as a merchant to acquire quality stuff (some of which is better for foxian hair types) to systematically switch out when Jing Yuan isn't paying attention. Jing Yuan obviously notices but he doesn't particularly care, later noticing his skin is less dry and his hair is way softer and healthier.

-Jing Yuan can cook but it's a 50/50 on if it actually ends up eatable. His job can be tiring and I imagine sometimes he's just too dead tired to stay awake and the food burns or whatever. After him and Luocha get together, Luocha will cook or he'll check on the food for him.

A: The prompts are supposed to be inspiration rather than limiting, so as long as your fic is inspired by a prompt you should be totally fine! Though, if you’re still worried about it feel free to contact the blog directly via asks, or send a message and we’ll do our best to clear it up for you.

Q: Should I include Trigger Warnings / Content Warnings?

A: Yes! Regarding explicit content or potentially triggering content, we ask you to add any triggers for visual submissions, such as fan art, edits and gifs.

I started in DC by reading fanfics, but as I began to read actual comics, I started to be unable to read the actual fanfic that got me into it in the first place because it's so out of character.

But there are still some stories that I love to read because I love the found family trope so much, even if it isn't really accurate to the source material.

As a comics purist (sometimes), are there tropes that you like enough that you'll still enjoy a fic even if it's not accurate to canon?

oh my god this is SUCH a fun question. bc while i started with the comics, there were certain characters and/or character dynamics where i was exposed to the fanon before the canon (just bc it's hard to read everything when you start out just to read some fanfic) and so i've definitely experienced the fanon to canon transition. (*especially* with Jason Todd. i had only read 80s/90s stuff where he was already dead or the New-52 bc that was on-going when i got into comics and man. the fanon misunderstandings i had about him before i got frustrated and sat down to read all his pre-Flashpoint stuff were absolutely bonkers.) and aside from that, whilst i tend to prefer canon over fanon, i'm not past giving fanon its flowers for occasionally having really interesting insights. occasionally. so some of my fanon "guilty pleasure" tropes would probably be

Morally Grey Tim Drake - this is one where if you try to back it up with canon, i *will* get salty about it. of everyone in the Batfam aside from maybe Bruce and Cass, Tim has the *most* black and white morals. often his internal conflicts are routed in such an inability to compromise his moral views and it can cause him to clash with other characters. he's *very* stiff and rigid in his beliefs and is *rare* to compromise in even the smallest ways. i mean, DC has repeatedly used Tim Drake of Tomorrow/Savior/Gun Batman!Tim for a reason. it's to demonstrate that of everyone, Tim *cannot* have his morals compromised. there's no grey area for him. he's zero or a hundred, so if he tips over the edge of "too far" he tips *all the way*, and doing so is one of his worst fears, how he could go "too far" if he let himself. a couple panels out of context from Red Robin (2009) (which was a grief spiral for Tim to begin with) don't change that. now that said. if it's done *right*, i sort of love Tim being morally grey in fanfic. it takes a specific flavor for me, and it's incredibly important to include that mental spiral along with it, of him struggling to justify it. i don't have any interest in "Tim Drake is loosy goosy with Bruce's morals and has the highest kill count and no one knows teehee" bc it doesn't play with the interesting parts of making Tim morally grey, which are fracturing his psyche. but all in all, i think it's fun to put Tim in a morally grey area and i will read it in fanfic and i enjoy writing it a lot

Joker Junior!Tim Drake - i've not written it on this account (yet) but on my main ao3 account one of my biggest fics surrounds this concept. this is one of those "well *technically* it's canon but only in a specific very divorced from the comics universe and would not work at all in the main timeline" so, i categorize it as fanon in that 95% of fics exploring the concept are not doing so within the Batman Beyond universe, but the main timeline. i just love it. I'll take any excuse to whump Tim, but this concept is so fun. psychologically breaking Tim will always be my favorite pastime. there are so many ways to explore the long-term effects this could have on him, how it could affect the Batfam. i'm not a fan of it being used as a "gotcha" to Jason or Babs' trauma with the Joker to paint Tim as the Ultimate Victim, but it is fun to see how their relationships would be affected by being mutual victims of him. (i have a vague JayTim idea where TIm fully retires from being Robin after being Joker Junior and killing the Joker, making Steph Robin for most of his typical Robin era and Jason still tracks him down out of curiosity bc he wants to know what happened and all. very underbaked but i've got thoughts.)

Renegade/Apprentice of Slade!Dick Grayson - this is another one where yes, this happened *sort of* in canon, but i highly doubt most people writing Renegate!Dick have read or are actually pulling from Nightwing: Renegade. it's just an exploration fo the concept fo Dick being Slade's apprentice and i will always eat it up in any capacity. whether Dick grows up with Slade from a young age, or chooses Slade for whatever reason later in life. it's not anything that works in canon bc it compromises Dick morally (similar to the above with Tim) and therefore will always come across incredibly fanon in most fics. but i can't say i don't enjoy it. it's fun to make Dick a little morally fucked up and see what you can make him under Slade's tutelage.

Jason & Damian Meeting in the League -there's no world where i believe this could work in the canon comics. (maybe in the Young Justice cartoon i suppose, but even then i think it's iffy) i would go as far to say it's wildly unrealistic. i don't see a world where Ra's would let Jason anywhere *near* Damian, bc Jason was Talia's pet project that he didn't approve of. that all said, there's something very interesting about how they *could've* met and them potentially bonding during that timeframe. them being somewhat brotherly during this time because Jason sees Bruce in Damian and sort of latches onto the kid and Damian is full of wonder hearing real stories about Batman and Robin, then that getting violently ripped away by Jason leaving the League is fun to me. it's fun how that could affect them within the Batfam and all. it's super fanon to me, but i do not care. i will eat it up

Bad Dad Clark Kent/Good Dad Lex Luthor - i will admit as a late, i've been less and less kind to this particular fanon bc of everything i've argued with people about, *this* one seems the most pervasive as misunderstood fanon. i don't mind when fanon exists, my gripe is when ppl try to claim it's canon. and the *arguments* i've had over this with people who can never seem to cite an actual comic are... frustrating. but that said, i think there is something fun to this strictly in fanon. the duality of who you expect to accept Kon and who you expect to hurt him being flipped is just sort of fun for the occasional guilty pleasure fic. it can make Kon's internal conflict a bit more interesting. the same goes for the Jon favoritism from Clark, it's not a canon thing (and i rlly wish ppl understood how complicated the timeline of Kon and Jon is and any distance from Clark toward Kon isn't malice, it's that Kon is from a timeline that Clark does not remember in the current canon so Clark just straight up doesn't know the poor kid.) but it's sort of fun to give Kon that complex of being overlooked and forgotten sometimes. making Kon just a *bit* more Luthor than Kent will *always* appeal to me in fanfic, especially if he *knows* it's wrong but craves approval from anyone who will give it.

Good Dad Bruce Wayne - i'll die on the hill Bruce is canonically a shitty father. maybe not to the extreme some people write him as, but he's not great at it. that said, i enjoy it in fanfiction. sometimes, i just want silly fluff or hurt/comfort where Bruce finally gets it right and manages to comfort whatever Batkid is in the fic. one of my favorite fics of all time is hinged on Bruce being a good dad, so i think it's just fun to explore how good the relationships *could* be, if Bruce was slightly less of an asshole. i usually prefer him as an asshole, but there are times i want low stakes nonsense.

Gotham Rogues Having Soft Spots for Robin(s) - just about every Rogue in Gotham has done something absolutely irredeemable, and most of them don't like or care about anyone in the Batfamily. but if there's a fic where one of the Robins inexplicably is sort of close with a Rogue and they have a cute silly relationship out of it? I'll eat it up i fear. Steph and the Riddler are besties? I'll believe it. Tim and Scarecrow get along pretty well? give me ten of these. Rogues protecting Robins just hits a spot. the unexpected nature of the relationship, as well as the fact they see each other regularly, can make a lot of good fodder.

I actually am kind of saddened at the amount of ppl who gatekeep and water down Jason/Percy's friendship tbh (surprisingly there are SO many of them??? I'm genuinely confused is it bc y'all don't want to admit that they're good friends since ppl want those two to be permanent rivals SO badly???) it seems more like a fanwar between jason fans and percy fans to me lol. The characters themselves are cool w e/o.

I've seen so many agitated comments like "No they were just colleagues, they are not 'bros', the fandom exaggerates their friendship" or "No, they resent eachother, they're basically strangers, why do ppl keep treating them like best buds?" in Jason/Percy friendship posts. for one, its not even something to get mad abt?? also, its a wrong place to comment that.

There is also nothing wrong with the fandom slightly exaggerating the seven's friendship. if you put it that way, Leo and Percy are really not even that close, they've both spoken like 3 sentences to each other in BOO, but the fandom also treat them like best pranking buds like they do with jason/percy, and its okay . Its not our fault that we barely got any proper bonding time with the characters of the argo ii. their friendship as a whole was a little underwhelming. sometimes, fanon can make canon content more interesting.

Yes, Jason and Percy are not best friends like Grover/Percy or Leo/Jason, but they are still very good friends regardless. I'm rereading all the hoo books, and they got over their rivalry VERY quickly. Percy mentioned in MOA that he felt a spark of friendship with Jason in the nyphaeum scene, and they've had plenty of good conversations with eachother. (like in boo, where jason saves Percy underwater and they have a lil heart to heart chat).

Percy reacted to Jason's death pretty badly aswell. I mean, the guy basically choked up at his mention and could not say his name without breaking down?? You don't grieve for a stranger like that.

Also, they've called eachother 'bros' MULTIPLE times throughout the books, it's literally canon. So no. The fandom isn't "exaggerating" or "making stuff up". Literally their first convo in CJ was them fist bumping, and Annabeth not wanting to interrupt their "bro talk". You don't exactly have to be best friends to be considered bros. It's really not that deep.

Yes, I do think that a lot of people are simply upset that Grover was forgotten in HOO, and that Jason "replaced" him which is very understandable. But Grover would never get replaced. You can have multiple close friends, Percy is loyal and would hold onto ALL his friends.

Grover is Percy's best friend, Leo is Jason's best friend, but Percy and Jason are still very good friends. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

5. What are your favourite ships?

a) Curly Shepard x Ponyboy Curtis- idk why other than the fact that fanon Curly seems to balance out Ponyboy perfectly, and that I read a Curly fit on ffn when I was like fifteen that fundamentally changed my brain chemistry

b) Steve Randle x Sodapop Curtis- I don’t like any other within gang ship but Soda and Steve make sense to me and ngl my closeted ass clocked them as gay when I was reading the book because of the ‘pillow fight’ scene. I genuinely answered a comprehension question in class like ‘Ponyboy’s naïveté is shown through the fact he believes soda never drinks and that Soda and Steve were having a pillow fight when they slept together’ and my teacher had to be like oh sweetie no….

c) Marcia x Two-bit Matthews- Not a HUGE fan but they had such chemistry and I wish that could’ve been explored. I’m actually working on a fit about them rn, just because I wanna explore Marcia’s psyche. She was fun :)

14. Five headcanons I basically see as canon

a) Steve is secretly SUPER protective of Ponyboy, partially because he knows Sodapop would never be ok if something ever happened to Pony and he couldn’t stand it if Soda’s spark ever went out, but also because he wants Ponyboy to have the happy childhood he never had.

b) Darry absolutely dotes on Ponyboy, even though he’s strict, he’s lenient about letting Pony go places and works overtime to make sure he can afford to get Ponyboy everything he needs (and some stuff he simply wants), especially after Windrixville.

c) Johnny Cade is scary looking. Full stop. The gang just doesn’t see him that way so it doesn’t show in Ponyboy’s narration

d) Dallas Winston had a good mom and a happy childhood and her death was the catalyst that made him into the hoodlum he was.

e) Sodapop Curtis absolutely drinks, Ponyboy just doesn’t believe he does and Soda is not anxious to correct him because he doesn’t want Ponyboy to see him differently

15. Five headcanons that are entirely self-indulgent

a) Angela Shepard and Curly Shepard have to share a room because Tim refuses to share with anyone. Neither of them actually hates it half as much as they pretend they do.

b) Part of why Curly and Ponyboy became close was because Ponyboy was struggling with getting over his concussion, and the side effects were really stressful for him (dizzy spells, blurry vision, absentmindedness) and Curly kinda helped him with it because Curly spent 90% of his childhood concussed so he knew what Pony was going through

c) Tim Shepard and Sylvia are best friends and would kill for each other but not die for each other. However, they would avenge each other’s deaths.

d) Steve Randle wishes more than anything in the world that Darry Curtis was actually his irl older brother 

e) Two-bit’s little sister HATES Ponyboy Curtis because her older brother spends more time playing older brother to him than he spends actually being an older brother to her.

17. Are there any criticisms or salt you have with the book?

My criticisms with the book lie with the author. SE Hinton has proven to be homophobic and racist, and its written into the book, which is my biggest issue. I love the story of The Outsiders but do not want to support Hinton or her harmful, bigoted ideology under any circumstances. (For anyone out there who wants a copy of the book but doesn’t want to support Hinton, you can find a free pdf online, all you gotta do is google it)

On a slightly lighter note, I would have loved to have seen more of the female characters in the book. Marcia in particular had so much potential, and I wish we’d seen one actual scene with Sandy or Sylvia.
