"In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields."
--In Flanders Fields, John McCrae

not to be Canadian. but we don't talk about Newfoundland enough. they hated Canada so much that it took getting decimated by two world wars before they would sink low enough to join this country. and personally I think that's very sexy of them.
#like they are so small#and they held out for so long#good for them honestly#they are the “not like other girls” province of Canada#yall thought it was Quebec#but you're wrong#like after wwi they go back to being a colony#because they would rather be Britain's bitch than Canadian#I mean sure sure basically the same#but still so funny to me#soph rambles

thinking about the professor i had in my cold war unit who told us that in the 70s he only ever went to one protest and that's because he had been day drinking and stumbled into their path and just kinda went with it.
#he was so cool#he thought it was something to do with malcolm fraser he couldn't remember#he also went to berlin and took a picture through a whole in the berlin wall which is crazy#he worked at a restaurant and even though he was too young to worry about it he listened to his coworkers discuss their plans#to move to canada if they ever got drafted. oh and i had another class with him abt the world wars and he brought in an actual wwi grenade.#i loved him
