She's sort of the antagonist boss for the Sterling family/Starknight 'story', though not the "main" villain, as the endgame boss actually first needs to regain his memory lol (She might even end up helping the good guys at that point with her massive amount of knowledge that could be useful for them)

She is the boss for Cornel Sala, AND Vincent DeVos/Vee, who's my character Angus' toxic ex friend.

Role: One of the antagonists for the Starknight tag

Love interest: She has somewhat of a physical relationship with her vampiric right hand man, though its purely casual, neither she or him take it very seriously.

Subordinates:  Vincent DeVos (A plaque demon) Samar (A Seemingly ancient Soul Eater, who turns out to be the brother of the Soul Eater King/Deity) Cornel Sala (A vampire)

Rival: The Sterling family, a Sorceress-Grimmhound family that often meddles in their business to prevent the harm they may cause.

Powers:

Sharp shooter: Camilla has a very good aim with a gun, and is also excellent at using a rifle.

High intellect: she is a very good tactician, and is able to consider her next several moves ahead. She isn't the type to rush into action needlessly, and will listen if told doing something is just far too risky despite short-term benefit.

Knowledge of Ether: She knows a lot about the mythical world, mythical beings and magic thanks to Cornel, and always makes sure to keep as much knowledge as possible stored for future uses. This enables her to, for example, counter things such as Grimmhounds (Diojas' bio dad Alexander) or how to diffuse dark magic spells. (Azul's forte)

Natural authority: She has this natural vibe to her that makes people listen to her. When her brother mysteriously ended up dead, nobody questioned her and were fine with her becoming the next boss - despite her gender - because she's always had more respect from the members than her brother did. Also she's guarded by 2 VERY terrifying men typically (Samar and Cornel) so you don't wanna mess with her.

Weaknesses:

Being a human, she is fairly defenseless against a lot of magic things, if she hasn't looked into it enough, and therefore can still be caught off-guard even if she has studied her mythical enemies a lot.

Her job is very straining and stressful mentally, making her struggle with normal socialization, which does make her feel very lonely and isolated at times. Her mythical guardians are always by her side, but ultimately, deep down, she knows they're not the same as her fellow humans. (Also she really wishes she had a gal-pal to chat with)

Having been almost killed once before she can be pretty paranoid about her safety, even when being protected by a literal vampire and a soul eater. However, paradoxically she then might be too comfortable around them, sometimes putting herself at risk when Cornel is going feral for example.

Personality:

Camilla is very serious and closed-off most of the time, and tends to not care for unnecessary chit-chat. She is very cautious and considers her every move carefully. Being a mob boss means she has hardened herself for such things like violence, and didn't even shed a tear when her brother was killed.

She isn't entirely heartless though; for example, she tends to not be happy if children are mixed into the business somehow, or if needless violence is used. She also genuinely feels sympathy for Vee, and them being rejected by someone he loves, as well as pities their inability to see why that happened.

Camilla does prefer avoiding unnecessary violence whenever able, because she doesn't find it that productive and could just trigger unnecessary cycles of vengeance that is bad for business.

BG Story

Camilla used to be her brother's closest confidant, until he started to obsess over the mythical beyond what was typical of their family, to the point of wanting to start a "relationship" with one working for them - a Grimmhound Roman Bosco. She observed from the sidelines as he began dappling with things he didn't fully understand and without their usual safety precautions, to the point he didn't even always listen to the warnings given to him by Cornel Sala - a vampire working for Camilla who knows his shit - about being careful with what he got his hands to.

However, once Roman managed to escape her brother's clutches, he fully went off the deep end, forgetting all about his family duties and only focusing on in his pursuit to find Roman and get him back. At this point, Camilla approached Cornel, telling him she was concerned her brother could end up destroying their family if this kept up. He agreed with her assessment, admitting he'd been concerned with his more and more unhinged behavior; if he started getting too careless with his dappling with magic, that would be bad for Cornel too as him being alive could get exposed to the forces that had once hunted him before his supposed death. Sometime after this conversation, Cornel kills her brother secretly.

Now the new head of the family, Camilla is introduced to an old servant of the Barones, who was invited in to become her personal guardian as per tradition in their family (her brother had refused this offer at the time as he had Roman): a man who'd served their parents and grandparents; A soul eater called Samar. She is initially miffed about this, but he quickly becomes a surrogate father figure to her.

She's Demiromantic bi.

Camilla sometimes wears sunglasses, or glasses with one blackened lens, instead of an eyepatch.

Camilla doesn't like drinking alcohol, she hates how it can hindrance your decision making ability. She lets her companions check all her drinks beforehand too, to make sure someone isn't trying to smuggle her alcohol or something worse.

Barones are mainly "officially" known for smuggled goods, counterfeit items business, money laundering and arms dealing. (Camilla's brother wanted to get into drug trade too, but she finds that too risky and messy)

Their more mythical, occultist business is a well kept secret that only select few are aware of.

She has been offered to heal her eye by both Cornel and Vee, but has declined their offers, not really trusting either with vulnerable medical things like an eye.

Camilla doesn't fully trust either Cornel or Vee, but does trust Samar due to him having been in their family for so long. Ironically the person who stabs her in the back (involuntarily in a way, circumstances force it) ends up being him.

Camilla is aware there's sexual tension between Cornel and Sam as well, and doesn't really care as its not like she's in a serious relationship with the vampire.

She pities Vee, as she could tell almost instantly - alongside everyone else pretty much - why he was rejected by Angus. She is also not always that happy when Cornel tricks him into doing unpleasant work he's too lazy to do.

While DeVos sometimes freaks her out due to his whole plague demon deal, she tends to still be fairly nice to him, seeing him almost like a poor lost child who doesn't really understand yet where he went wrong.

The simple pattern tattoo she has is in reference to their late mother who also had similar tattoo, just around her collarbone.

Another excellent reading, Celta. IMO, Charles is a damn hypocrite in looking down on Catherine when Charles himself married a commoner (Camilla). I don't understand how Charles can be a classist snob when Charles as well as both his sons married commoners... but pretends or acts like Camilla isn't a commoner. Just baffling.

Just FYI for you and everyone else:

Camilla is not a commoner. She has the aristocratic pedigree in her parents and grandparents. She does not have a title, but she is clearly 'one of us' and not 'one of them'.

Camilla's mother was the granddaughter of the 3rd Baron Ashcombe and the niece of the 4th Baron Ashcombe. Daughters do not inherit titles, so their pedigree is derived from their mother and father. On her mother's side, Camilla is solid aristocrat.

Her father didn't have a title, but he was solidly upper class. He had a good career in the army, retiring with the honorary rank of Major, and over his life he held the positions of  Deputy Lieutenant of Sussex, Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, and Exon, Adjutant and Clerk of the Cheque of the Queen's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard. He was a partner in a firm of wine merchants, not an employee. He reviewed military books for a magazine, wrote a war memoir, and edited another military man's memoirs. He had a town house and a country house, and was a Master of Foxhounds. His half sister married an aristocrat, The Lord Howe of Aberavon, and was given a life peerage that she holds in her own right as Baroness Howe of Idlicote, That is not a 'commoner' father.

Camilla is gentry. She has the aristocratic pedigree but not the title (not until she married Charles, anyway). She is 'one of us' (aristocrats/gentry) and not 'one of them' (middle and lower classes).

So, that explains how Charles thinks of Camilla. Plus she is his wife and in his mind I think that would be enough to override any disadvantages of birth.

Catherine is solidly middle class/ upper middle class. That is a very different thing.

lmk if this is anything lol i was struck with an idea for an avatrice museum curator/time travel AU based on my job working as a curator for a historic home

Concept Summary: 2024 -- Ava, a classical archaeologist with a unique supernatural gift, is offered a position as a museum curator at a historic country estate in England for the summer touring season. She is hesitant to accept as it's not really her field, but her research money has dried up, and she takes the job. 1874 -- Beatrice, the daughter of a wealthy baron, reckons with a gnawing suspicion that there is more to her family's livelihood than meets the eye. She becomes distracted from her investigation by strange happenings in her home.

Scene: Camilla, the daycamp director for the museum, is helping Ava to clean her office and go through old records.

“Here.” She points at a column. “This was our account for last season, and the camps got by. You can propose the same amount this year and I’ll survive.” She shrugs.

Ava sighs and closes the ledger. “Thanks.” She knits her brows together and studies Camilla’s face for a second.

“You know, I’m really glad you’re here, I don’t know if I’d survive the season if it was just Lilith.”

Camilla laughs again, brighter.  “Lilith is just...” She ponders. “You know those conservator types. They don’t want just anyone touching their artifacts.”

Ava smirks. “I don’t know, maybe if she let someone get all up in her artifacts she could loosen up a little.”

“Ava!”

“I’m getting the distinct feeling someone wouldn’t mind sorting through her filing cabinet—”

Camilla turns red and covers her ears. “Stop it! Right now—”

“What was it that you said? ‘Sure Lilith, I can help you move the textiles to acid-free boxes, actually, I’m kind of a box expert myself—'”

“I will leave you down here to peel the dead mice off the floor on your own.” Camilla threatens, stepping toward the door.

“Alright, I’m done, I’m done. Please don’t go.” Ava begs for her to come back into the office. They both look around at the mess.

“I can’t believe the pests have wrecked this place so much since our last tours.” Camilla says.

Ava swipes a finger through dust on a shelf. She wrinkles her nose at the mouse droppings on the windowsill and bends over to look at the dried mouse carcass underneath the couch.

“You’re telling me. I might have to burn most of this paper.” Ava stands to gesture at a stack of disorganized records. She pulls a latex glove over her hand. “Can’t keep it if it's contaminated.”

“Yuck. Well, I’d rather deal with the mice and the kids than the ghosts any day.” Camilla casually picks up a dustpan and crouches to poke at the mouse.

Ava freezes. “...the what?”

Camilla looks up at her. “Haven’t you heard all of the stories?”

Ava throws up her hands. “No! Jillian told me this place wasn’t haunted.”

“Oh.” Camilla clears her throat. “Just kidding then.”

“What!”

I wanted to make this look MUCH more finished with proper lineart and shading, but upstairs neighbors are having a party again and the noise makes it too difficult to focus, so...

I also meant to include Cornel messing with Samar/Sam as well, given this Bisexual bastard is charming enough to seduce both his boss Camilla, AND her family's longtime bodyguard-secretly-an-amnesiac-demigod-from-Cornel's-homeworld-Sam.

But. I just can't focus at all to continue these, that annoying thumping is driving me crazy. It's not even that it's like....LOUD loud, I'm just particularly sensitive to the low, thumping base sounds.

(Random fact: Cornel is not the kind of vampire humans typically are used to, Ether vampires are natural born not turned undead, and can't be defeated with holy objects or sunlight)

Zero idea about the fandom interest in said supplement, but I think it would be cool to have a supplement of different types of Anarch government!

I know v5 has these different coterie types already, but I'm thinking something bigger, like a guide on how to build a government for vampires. You could even have the same group of Anarchs try different government types, to see which one fits for their community. In his diary, Beckett writes down two different types of Anarch government: one in LA and one in Libertatia. What if we had even more options! There could even be more based on real life government, though they'd have to be scaled down for a smaller population. What do you think? How would you design your vampire government? 🎵 It's fun to get together with your friends and write a constitution. 🎵

Autocracy - This can go a lot of ways. One vampire has all the power. They could be called emperor, king, Ruler Supreme, the Big Cheese, or anything else. I was thinking of Imperial Russia and how the Tsar had to do everything, from processing name-change forms to leading the army. You could bring in a religious element. Whoever proves to be Caine's specialist little snowflake gets to sit in the biggest, comfiest chair. There could be "divine trials" to prove that Caine himself kisses you on the forehead. You could have a Pharaoh, who heads the government and religion.

The Bonpensiero - This is a spin on the Camarilla model to fit LA's needs at the end of my friends' hella long chronicle. Each LA neighborhood had an elected Baron, and all Barons sat on a Council. The Council resolved disputes, monitored LA citizen health, and investigated threats to the Masquerade. When it became time to stomp something into dust, the "Prince" would do the stomping.

Feudalism - Quentin King III modeled his government after medieval European feudalism, which shockingly worked for a long while. In exchange for protection during attack, the ruler receives food/taxes/tribute from others. That can be the entire extent of it, or there can be other government bodies that form laws and settle disputes.

The Eternal Senate - Collat's version, Camilla's version, or the real life one!

The Oligarchy - a group of people are in charge of everything! Can come in different flavors. Maybe it's a elders, maybe it's corporate bigwigs [shudders]; maybe it's everyone who has proven Caine loves them.

The Matriarchy - Female Kindred rule a territory, both as a government and keepers of culture. However, they don't have absolute power, and there are various counter-balances and law-making bodies

Three Departments and Six Ministries - the admin structure of medieval China, NE China (Manchuria), Vietnam, and Korea. Comes with an emperor. Read more here!

Communism - Comes in so many flavors I'm just linking the wikipedia article here. The society centers around the common ownership of the means of production. For example, every Kindred would have a role in the acquiring and distribution of blood.

Socialist Republic - Kindred vote for representatives to...represent them...in a government body, which then votes on policies. Including socialism means a focus on government programs providing Kindred with their basic needs, like blood, a haven, art, etc

Chapter 23

24th July 1994

The moment her mother's coffin was lowered into the grave, Camilla felt as if something inside her broke inevitably and she lost her battle against the tears she had been able to hold back until now. 10 days ago, her beloved mother had closed her eyes for the last time, after her condition had further worsened over the last couple of weeks, which had been nothing but a torture for all them. On 29th of June, an interview had aired, in which Charles had more or less confirmed to have cheated on his ex-wife with her but also had sort of denied their relationship, mentioning her by name, saying: "Mrs Parker Bowles is a great friend of mine … a friend for a very long time. She will continue to be a friend for a very long time.", he had said, publicly, on television, without speaking to her beforehand or asking for her permission to mention her like that. She was a friend then. Along with a lot of other friends, as he had continued in that goddamn horror of a program which had not at all led to the effect that Charles had been hoping for, as he had told her afterwards, when he had called her on the phone, apologised and tried to explain himself but she had been so upset that she hadn't even wanted to listen to him at that point. He had gone too far, all of her friends and even Andrew had agreed. That "statement" hadn't helped her at all, it had only just put her into an even more impossible situation than she'd already been in, not to mention what it meant for her family, her children, Thea in particular, and of course also her parents. She hadn't expressed it and probably wouldn't ever, but deep inside her heart she felt that this was what had killed her mother. Rosalind had always been a real lady, classy and honourable - as the daughter of a Baron, literally "right honourable" - and though she hadn't even noticed the whole scandal in all of it's details anymore because she had already been too poorly and ill, she had certainly felt that something wasn't right and Camilla couldn't help feeling that it was, at least partly, her fault and she felt so guilty and ashamed. Of course, Charles had called her immediately after he'd heard about her mother, but she didn't want to see or even talk to him at the moment. It had all been so humiliating. Even now, as they were saying their final farewell to her mother, all of them crying and heartbroken, there was still a bunch of paparazzi hiding in the bushes, taking pictures of them in this very sensitive and private moment. And it was all her fault. Sometimes she felt as if she was only ever bringing shame on those she loved. As if she could read or feel her mother's painful thoughts, little Thea pressed her hand a bit tighter. They had long been discussing whether they'd take her to the funeral or not but even the pastor had suggested that, if it was her own wish, they should encourage her to take the opportunity and say goodbye to her grandmother, so they had eventually agreed that she was coming and she was so glad to have her by her side in this very moment. She really was her sweet, little angel and kept on giving her so much strength, it was unbelievable. She had painted a lovely picture for her grandma which she had bravely placed on the coffin, before sitting down between her parents in the first row in the chapel. Charles had offered to come, too, but Camilla had turned him down. She didn't want him there after everything that had happened.

The service had been lovely and everyone in attendance had shed a few tears as it had been wonderfully moving, very graceful and dignified, just like her mother would have wanted it to be. Once it was over, all the neighbours and friends and people who'd known Rosalind from London or from her volunteering or goodness knew where from, came over to them, expressing their heartfelt condolences. Camilla and her siblings were standing next to their father, Andrew and Simon, the sons-in-law, right behind them, followed by the grandchildren in the third row. Laura, Alice and Katie were all three sweetly looking after Thea who obviously felt confident and comfortable surrounded by her older cousins and sister. When finally the last guests were gone, the party prepared to head to The Laines, the beautiful country home where Camilla and her siblings had been blessed enough to experience the most idyllic and happiest childhood anyone could ever wish for, but today, the house felt empty despite the numerous guests, because its hostess had gone…

"Milla, darling, could you please help me with… ummm… you know, the… the wine bottles… and stuff…", her father said to her at one point and hadn't the occasion been as sad as it was, she'd probably have laughed at his desperate attempt to find a private moment with her because that excuse was simply ridiculous. However, in that very moment, due to the naturalness of the occasion, she just smiled and nodded confirmingly. "Of course, dad. I'm coming." She followed her father down the stairs, into the wine cellar, where he closed the door and looked at his eldest daughter in a mixture of sympathy, pride and love. "My sweet, beautiful, darling girl.", he began and his loving words brought tears to her eyes again immediately. "I know you think it was all your fault.", Bruce said, taking her hand. "I know you're feeling guilty and kind of responsible for all of this." "Daddy, I'm so sorry!", Camilla sobbed, totally upset. She hadn't expected it to hit her that hard. "Oh, come here, sweetheart, come to Daddy…", he tried to soothe her, tenderly pulling her into his arms, lovingly patting her back. "Don't think that, Milla. It's not true. Your mother was very, very ill and nobody could help her.", he assured her. "But maybe she wouldn't have given up hope if only…", she whined, but her father interrupted her: "Your mother gave up hope long before all of that happened, darling. Stop blaming yourself for something that is clearly not your fault. You've been through more than enough recently, my poor little darling girl. Your mother would not want you to feel like that. She'd want you to be happy, as happy as possible under the given circumstances, and to continue to be the wonderful daughter, sister and mother you've always been." "Oh, Daddy… I… I don't know what to say.", she murmured, still with a tear-strained voice. "It's okay, Milla. Listen, I was wondering whether we could all go on holiday together, you, me, Annabel and Simon, Mark, the children if they want to, and of course you can all bring your friends as well. I think it will be good for all of us to get away from it all for a few days, what do you think?" "Yes, Daddy, if that's something you'd like to do, then of course I'm happy to come. I'll ask Tom and Laura and will bring Thea of course…", she promised, hugging him tightly. "Wonderful, my darling.", he replied, softly kissing her on the cheek, before looking at her very seriously. "Milla, please, since you've just mentioned her… Please answer me one question. Who is Theodora's father? I think we both know the truth but I want to hear it from you…"

*Side Note:

The Dimbleby Interview did indeed air on 29th June, 1994, and the quoted parts he said about Camilla are real as well and as a consequence, she was indeed targeted even more in the following weeks and months. Also, her mother really died on 14th July and her funeral was held on 24th. Camilla’s 47th birthday on 17th July (btw: Happy Birthday, Your Majesty! The "real" Camilla turns 76 today! 🎂) must have been a very sad one. The family did, indeed, go on a holiday after Rosalind's funeral, they went to Portugal but the paparazzi followed and found her even there. It must have been an awful time for her and I know, some of you said you'd like to read something "lighter" again (and I promise, you will soon!), but as I try to stick with the events as they happened as accurate as possible, I'm afraid we'll have to go through some more dark chapters before everything will be happily ever after… it will at some point, though 😉
