I'm practicing for my C1 English exam and I'm a bit terrified about the speaking part sigh
Any advice on how to practice and get better at it 😭😭
The problem is not my level of English (or at least I think-).. it has more to do with fluidity of speech and idk, fantasy in coming up with replies to their prompts???? And also I forget words when I talk UUUGGHHHHH

Mortarion as a Moth
What types of moths I think Mortarion would be. Mostly vibes. Mostly an excuse for me to talk about moths. Not in any particular order. Plenty of cute looking moths.
Some of these moths weren't 100% my idea so I linked back to the person I got the idea from. I tried to keep to credible sources, but some of these I struggled to find info on, so I linked what I could find.
Spanish Moon Moth

Suggestive by @wolf-tail
Scientific Name is Graëllsia isabellae. This one was difficult to find any information about that didn't come from wiki or a blog post. But this species of moth is nocturnal and is considered a protected species. (Mort would look really good in green and the wings are really pretty!) (Image) (source) (info) (video)
(note: the blog I got the photo down is currently down. I kept it on just in case it went back up.)
Death Head Hawk Moth

One of the first moths I thought of and @wolf-tail
One of my favorite and people often raise them as pets as well. Capable of creating a squeaking noise and some of it's favorite food include potatoes as caterpillars. (I will die by Mortarion loves root veg.) Adults will often invade beehives for honey. (Also the skull on the thorax is just the death guard legion symbol.) (photo) (source) (video)
Rosy Maple Moth

Suggested by @madmwyrd
While as caterpillars they mostly live and feed on maple trees. Adults don't feed. ( I don't think Mortarion has eaten really in the past 10,000 years so it fits.) Also one of those moths that looks like its ramming its head down when at rest. (100% Morty mood.) (source) (video)
Iotaphora admirabilis

(I was looking for moths with a subtle blue cause of his model.) This moth is located Eurasia, mostly in China. You can mostly find this moth in mountain ranges in the mid altitude. (Where our pale king grew up.) The young prefer to eat the leaves of walnut trees as caterpillars. (image) (source)
Joker Moth

Just. Look. At. Him. (The green matches our grumpy demon prince.) Found in North America, these moths prefer trees as caterpillars. They also look so tiny and cute. (source)
Southern Old Lady Moth

This lovely moth is from Australia. A few websites mentioned it got its name from its wings reminding people of a shawl. (Mortarion would 100% wear an old lady shawl, fight me on this.) (Photo) (blog) (info)
Black Witch Moth

Here's another personal favorite of mine for our reaper. This moth pictured is the female variety. Males lack the iridescent markings, looking mostly brown. (I personally believe he should have the purple markings.) Folklore in Mexico states that if this moth enters the home of someone who is sick; they won't live much longer. (Thematic for the primarch.) Though in other parts in the world, getting a visit from this moth can mean money. Plus these suckers get to be quite large, often confused for bats on first look. (Morty was always one of the taller primarchs. Plus having witch in it's name would be a constant reminder that he's a psyker.) (image) (source) (video)
Ghostly Silk Moth
Despite being a semi-popular silk moth, it was so difficult to find any credible sources for. But I love the transparent wings with the more white under wings. (I've seen fanart of Mort with transparent wings and loved the idea since.) This moth is only found in Madagascar. Being a silk moth, its fibers are used for textiles; no harm is brought to the moths. It's common name is pretty recent, named by a breeder. Though most likely locals have a name for it their language. Most likely see it under its scientific name, Ceranchia apollina. (image) (source1) (source2) (breeder's youtube)
Southern Flannel Moth

One of the fluffiest moths out there. Even their eggs and caterpillar are fluffy. But don't let looks deceive you, as a caterpillar, they contain poisonous spines. (For our toxic primarch.) They are mostly found in the eastern half of the United States. Particularity in the southeast in places in Texas and Florida. (image) (source)
Dot-Lined Moth

I love how this moth in some pictures when putting its head down looks like its wearing a hood. (This moth is mostly just a vibe one for Mort.) This moth is fairly common in North America, reaching far up as New York, and far south as Mexico (This as far as I can find, I'm not seeing a definite range.) Caterpillars have a ranged diet, including roses and oaks. (source1) (source2) (image) (video)
Puss Moth

This moth is another moth that looks like its wearing a hood. (This may be a torpor behavior in moths, I think), found in the English Isles. (I think the colors would match well to Mortarion.) As a caterpillar, these moths are capable of squirting acid. (Astartes thing in general, but more toxins for the pale king.) (source) (video)
Hulodes caranea

I found this moth through a video and actually submitted a request to Cambridge University to identify this moth. (I liked how the wings on the moth can look worn cloth for Mortarion.) According to Cambridge, this moth is an owlet and belongs to the super family Erebidae. Looking at photos for this moth, wing patterns can range from really simple to really complex. The moth can have a wide range throughout Asia. (image) (source) (video)
Showy Emerald Moth

This moth comes from North America and even its caterpillar looks almost like a plant. Apparently two of the three of the plants the caterpillar feeds on can be toxic to humans. Poison ivy and staghorn sumac trees (the sap can be toxic to humans). (Listen Mortarion would be making a poison ivy salad and making a syrup out of that sap.) The other plant is winged sumac shrubs. (photo) (source) (tree source)
Pale Beauty Moth

This moth is found through out North America. They have a wide range of host plants as a caterpillar. From pine trees and blueberries and more. Colorization can vary from a more white to a green color. (I mostly picked this moth for the name. Pale beauty pale king.) This moth as an adult also doesn't feed. (Image) (source) (video)
Luna Moth

This moth is a type of silk moth. Its silk production isn't really being made into cloth like some wild silk production. (As far as I can tell.) Caterpillars are not poisonous but will instead spit up bad tasting fluid after clicking as a warning. In the pupa, when disturbed these moths will move creating a noise. They also wrap themselves in a cocoon of silk and a leaf. In fall these moths will fall with their leaf. Their coloring can actually change which time of the year they are caterpillars. If they have more than one brood per year. Deeper greens with red purple margins in the spring while the other brood is more yellow. Unfortunately, these guys can't eat as adults and die within a week after emerging. (I think of this moth as more if Mortarion ever joined Isha. Idk I always associated these guys with elves/aeldari in general.) (image) (source1) (source2) (source3) (silksource) (video)
Pale Tussock

This moth is quite common throughout Europe and even into central Asia. The caterpillars eat a variety of plants. Including Hop leaves! (Mortarion loves his alcohol.) This isn't as common as it used to be due the use of pesticides. (Pretty Nurgle like to be a pest insect.) As adults they don't eat as well. The scientific name is Calliteara pudibunda, though it can also be found under other scientific names like Dasychira pudibunda. (I don't know why this is but wikipedia (which is questionable) lists the pale tussock under both names.) (image) (source1) (source2) (source3) (video)
I wanted to add more but this is already taking long time. I defiantly want to do this again but I might do the other other primarchs. (I already have ideas for pert, magnus, and the phoenix.)
Also can be talk about Mortarion only having one set of wings. Moths have two sets. Did they get torn off? Under his armor/cloak? Are underdeveloped due to poor nutrition? Is he a bathroom moth fly??? 😂 Maybe that's his true insect type. He's just a fly mimicking a moth. Games Workshop please give me answers.
Also video if you want to learn more about moths in general: (link)
(Also feel free to send me moth suggestions)

Celebrating the opening of the new Graduate Junction residence
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/celebrating-the-opening-of-the-new-graduate-junction-residence/
Celebrating the opening of the new Graduate Junction residence

Over two choreographed move-in days in August, more than 600 residents unloaded their boxes and belongings into their new homes in Graduate Junction, located at 269 and 299 Vassar Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. With smiling ambassadors standing by to assist, residents were welcomed into a new MIT-affiliated housing option that offers the convenience of on-campus licensing terms, pricing, and location, as well as the experienced building development and management of American Campus Communities (ACC).
With the building occupied and residents settled, the staff has turned their attention to creating connections between new community members and celebrating the years of a collaborative effort between faculty, students, and staff to plan and create a building that expands student choice, enhances neighborhood amenities, and meets sustainability goals.
Gathering recently for a celebratory block party, residents and their families, staff, and project team members convened in the main lounge space of building W87 to mingle and enjoy the new community. Children twirled around while project managers, architects, staff from MIT and ACC, and residents reflected on the partnership-driven work to bring the new building to fruition. With 351 units, including studios, one-, two-, and four-bedroom apartments, the building added a total of 675 new graduate housing beds and marked the final step in exceeding the Institute’s commitment made in 2017 to add 950 new graduate beds.
The management staff has also planned several other events to help residents feel more connected to their neighbors, including a farmers market in the central plaza, fall crafting workshops, and coffee breaks. “Graduate Junction isn’t just a place to live — it’s a community,” says Kendra Lowery, American Campus Communities’ general manager of Graduate Junction. “Our staff is dedicated to helping residents feel at home, whether through move-in support, building connections with neighbors, or hosting events that celebrate the unique MIT community.”
Partnership adds a new option for students
Following a careful study of student housing preferences, the Graduate Housing Working Group — composed of students, staff, and faculty — helped inform the design that includes unit styles and amenities that fit the needs of MIT graduate students in an increasingly expensive regional housing market.
“Innovative places struggle to build housing fast enough, which limits who can access them. Building housing keeps our campus’s innovation culture open to all students. Additionally, new housing for students reduces price pressure on the rest of the Cambridge community,” says Nick Allen, a member of the working group and a PhD student in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning. He noted the involvement of students from the outset: “A whole generation of graduate students has worked with MIT to match Grad Junction to the biggest gaps in the local housing market.” For example, the building adds affordable four-bed, two-bath apartments, expanded options for private rooms, and new family housing.
Neighborhood feel with sustainability in mind
The location of the residence further enhances the residential feel of West Campus and forms additional connections between the MIT community and neighboring Cambridgeport. Situated on West Campus next to Simmons Hall and across from Westgate Apartments, the new buildings frame a central, publicly accessible plaza and green space. The plaza is a gateway to Fort Washington Park and the newly reopened pedestrian railroad crossing enhances connections between the residences and the surrounding Cambridgeport neighborhood.
Striving for the LEED v4 Multifamily Midrise Platinum certification, the new residence reflects a commitment to energy efficiency through an innovative design approach. The building has efficient heating and cooling systems and a strategy that reclaims heat from the building’s exhaust to pre-condition incoming ventilation air. The building’s envelope and roofing were designed with a strong focus on thermal performance and its materials were chosen to reduce the project’s climate impact. This resulted in an 11 percent reduction of the whole building’s carbon footprint from the construction, transportation, and installation of materials. In addition, the development teams installed an 11,000 kilowatt-hour solar array and green roof plantings.

As a non-native English speaker, I cannot even begin to explain the impact fanfiction has had on my proficiency. School just wasn't enough, and I never attended Cambridge School (which is very popular here in Portugal but quite an expensive option) or got any certificate. My sister is an English teacher, so I had an extra layer of motivation (even though I used to be soooo lazy with the Brush Up Your Grammar books lmao and it would drive her crazy).
Movies, books, TV shows also helped a lot. Especially watching movies with English subtitles and whipping out google whenever I came across a word and/or expression I wasn't familiar with.
But ultimately, it was fanfiction 🩷 it still is.

Heyyy! Absolutely love your recs, your blog is literally my go to any time I feel like reading something💕
I was wondering if you know any (american) college!au Drarry fic? even better if it includes fraternities ehehehe
Hi anon, I’m so happy to hear that! Life is pretty hectic and I haven’t been around (or reading) much, but I expect things to calm down after summer so I hope you continue enjoying the blog 😊 I got a couple college/university AUs to rec although most are set in the UK. Enjoy!
The Anti Harry by @dracogotgame (G, 2k)
Harry has his eye on the new Fresher. The new Fresher has it in for Harry.
No Bones About It by @peachpety (T, 5k)
To remain eligible to play football for Hogwarts University, Harry needs to pass his gen bio exam. Too bad he chose the course based on the hotness of the TA and not the leniency of the professor. With the help of his friends and a Magic 8 Ball, Harry seeks tutoring from Draco Malfoy, Hot TA. Cue: chance encounters, flirting in library nooks, and prophecies fulfilled.
A Christmas Happenstance by Only_1_Truth (E, 5k)
The Hogwarts School for the Gifted and Supernatural had classes year-round, but the dormitories emptied out regularly on holidays as if the students were suddenly becoming allergic to the walls. Both humans and non-humans mingled freely in the surrounding town of Hogsmeade. Draco Malfoy, however, isn't feeling in the mood after a rather spectacular break-up.
Kissing Boys by JulietsEmoPhase (E, 6k)
Harry knows his dorm mate has a secret that's eating him up inside. One night he finally decides to try and help. Muggle college roommate AU. Smut.
Anyone But Him by RuArcher (E, 19k)
Harry thought going to a Muggle university would be the perfect opportunity for a new start. He hadn’t counted on having Draco Malfoy as a flatmate.
Faint Indirections by ignatiustrout (T, 30k)
Draco Malfoy is the last person Harry expects to turn up in Boston, Massachussetts. But now he's here, and he won't stop requesting books from the library where Harry works.
Ynys Afallach (I Will Give My Love An Apple) by Femme and noeon (E, 42k)
Professor Waverley Root's tutorial in the history of magical food is something of a legend at Flamel College. Draco Malfoy wants to apply it to his work in sustainable wizarding agriculture. Harry Potter's taking it for his interest in historical overlap between the magical and Muggle worlds in the West Country. When Root pairs them together, the fireworks (and the apples!) fly.
The Roommate by @romaine2424 (M, 42k)
After one year in Azkaban, and two years of home arrest, Draco is going off to college. Myrrdin College is Oxford’s magical college, where one Harry Potter is currently attending. Both are going for their teaching certificates with Draco specialising in Potions and Harry in Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Our Objective Remains Unchanged by @citrusses (E, 46k)
Harry Potter, returning member of the Oxford University Boat Club, has two goals for the spring of 2005: beat Cambridge, and beat Draco Malfoy. Perhaps not in that order.
Yours to Keep by dracoismytrashson (E, 135k)
Some people think concepts like fate and destiny are romantic, but for Harry Potter, fate has always meant one thing: a swift kick in the arse. Why else would he cross an ocean to New York and enroll in Muggle university only to find Draco Malfoy living two doors down the hall? The universe and its twisted sense of humor can fuck right off.

On February 25th 1888 a conference advocated the adoption of leaving certificates in Scottish schools.
Scotland has long enjoyed an international reputation as historically one of the best-educated societies in the world. The foundation for this reputation was laid in the 17th century and was the result of Calvinist emphasis on reading the Bible. Putting men and women in touch with the word of God was seen by the Scottish authorities and clergy as of paramount importance. To achieve this goal schools paid for by the Church of Scotland and local landowners were established in all rural parishes and burghs by an Act of Parliament in 1696. These educational establishments were run by the Church and were open to all boys and girls regardless of social status.
The democratic nature of the Scottish system so impressed the 18th century writer Daniel Defoe that he remarked that while England was a land ‘full of ignorance’, in Scotland the 'poorest people have their children taught and instructed’. The openness of the Scottish system ran all the way from the schoolroom to the university. A talented working class boy the 'lad o'pairts’ through intelligence and hard work and by utilising a generous system of bursaries was able to gain a university education, something largely unthinkable in England in the 18th century.
That’s not to say it was perfect on further inspection I found out that even in 1892 when all elementary and most secondary education became free, and scholarships were more widely available, few working-class children were able to take advantage of the opportunity. Only just under 5% of pupils attended a secondary school in Scotland in 1897. The real priority for children from working-class backgrounds was to find work and begin earning a wage.
For a small nation Scotland was particularly well-endowed with universities, boasting five in the 19th century - a figure which included Aberdeen’s Marischal and King’s Colleges. The universities were considered to be national, public institutions and, therefore, less elitist than Oxford or Cambridge in England. Because of this they were said to be more open to working people and, indeed, over 18% of the student population of Glasgow university in 1860 was from working-class backgrounds, quite a high number considering the low percentages of working class children who were educated.
The existence of a substantial number of working class students has given rise to the view that universities in Scotland were more democratic and based more on merit than the class-ridden universities of England. The wider implication was that Scotland was a less class obsessed society than England.
Again all was not as it seemed, and while we had a working class getting into University, the system was somewhat broken in a way. At Glasgow University in 1889-90, out of 225 students taking the junior Latin class 200 failed. The quality of university education in Scotland was generally poor and inferior to that offered in England. The low quality was mainly due to the fact that there was no university entrance examination and, therefore, children could enter the system as early as fourteen or fifteen, the 1888 act would possibly put this to rights.
As a result, philosophy, which had previously formed the core of the arts degree, was made optional. Students were also forced to compete for bursaries and this acted as an unofficial entrance examination. The setting up in 1901 of the Carnegie Trust Fund, set up by the great philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, provided a further source of assistance and by 1930 70% of university students in Scotland were receiving awards from the fund.
The numbers of students in higher education institutions increased from 4,400 in 1830 to 6,000 in 1900, to 10,000 in 1938. At Glasgow University, working-class students increased as a percentage of the total, from 18.6% in 1860 to 24% in 1910.
The period from 1900 to the outbreak of War in 1939 did not witness the same degree of change in the educational system as had occurred in the 19th century. However, there were important developments in the sphere of primary and secondary education. These changes did little to alter the class bias of education, but collectively they made important contributions to the
creation of an all encompassing modern educational system in Scotland.
Education in Scotland has been the subject of much myth-making as regards the openness of the system and the quality of provision. In the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, the educational system catered mainly for an elite section of Scottish society. Although the door to higher education was more open than in England, workers and their families, women and Catholics in general were excluded. For these groups, education was sparse and the quality poor.
Legislation gradually improved the access of all groups to better education, but it was only after the introduction of comprehensive education in 1965 that attempts were made to provide adequate standards for all children in Scotland.
