Summer Style: Pretty in Pink
Harvey's summer outfits have really popped lately with some intriguing pieces in pink! Even better, these items come from companies with mission statements that tie into some element of Harvey's style ethos. So here's a rundown of all the fun & thought-provoking summer style he's been serving.
Wolf & Badger Juliette Kimono
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This flowy, handmade chiffon kimono by Jennafer Grace screams summer relaxation. It features peachy-pink flowers on a blue-white background, and originally came in sizes up to a women's XXL (it is unclear what measurements this translates to, as the website's size guide does not provide them). All sizes except for M and L are currently out of stock. It retails for $175.
Jennafer Grace is an independent designer based in San Diego, California. She specializes in handmade, eclectic garments and accessories inspired by vintage style and cinema. Wolf & Badger is a B-corp certified business that sells clothing from independent brands worldwide. They prioritize sustainability and ethical production practices.
(B-corp certification is a designation conferred by B Lab Global, an international non-profit network that seeks to raise corporate standards across the globe. In order to earn a B-corp certification, a business must meet specific markers of social and environmental performance, corporate governance and accountability, and transparency.)
LungeMan Electric Pink Swim Trunks
Tumblr media
Though of course there is margin for error whenever we cannot see specific labels or defining features, it appears that these trunks are the Electric Pink LungeMan shorts from Sleeves Sold Separately, a family-owned athletic wear boutique based in Southern California.
The LungeMan is described as a retro gym short that doubles as workout shorts or swimming trunks. The shorts are made of a stretchy nylon-spandex blend with a low-cut elastic waistband, moisture-wicking liner, zippered back pocket, and a 4-inch inseam. They are designed to be comfortable while also being fitted, to allow the wearer to show off their legs. As such, the cut is tailored for men with larger glutes and thighs, and comes in sizes up to XXL (37-38-inch hip). They are currently low in stock, with sizes M and XXL being out of stock entirely. They retail for $75.
The founders of Sleeves Sold Separately, Naomi and BJ, say they aim to provide athleisure apparel that celebrates the masculine body, a goal stemming from BJ's own struggles with weight, body image, and fashion. As a both a kid in a larger body and an adult in a thinner body, BJ says he struggled to find any fashion options that made him feel confident and like his body was being celebrated. "My mission is simple," says BJ. "I’m just gonna create all of the apparel I want in my closet for every training and social situation." (Source)
(A personal note: While I don't agree with the way BJ implicitly equates fitness with a smaller body on their about page, I definitely sympathize with the struggle to find clothes that make me feel confident, and celebrate any company working to alleviate that struggle for others.)
Affordable Options
Technically, the trunks already fall into the "under $100" affordability threshold. But here are a few other options as well!
Hot Pink Beach Shorts - $9.96 from Walmart, available in sizes up to XXL (45-inch waist).
Neon Pink Swim Trunks - $55 from Coastal Cool, available in sizes up to 3XL (45 5/8-inch waist, 52 3/4-inch hip).
It was surprisingly difficult to find any full-length chiffon kimonos that matched the vibe and quality of the one Harvey wears above. In the end I only found one, and it didn't meet the affordability threshold.

An Unintended Legacy
Jeff Schaffer authored or co-authored the Wilderness Press PCT guidebooks that served as ‘bibles’ for most PCT hikers from 1973 until apps increasingly superseded these resources some 40 years later.  Jeff contributed a story in The Pacific Crest Trailside Reader: Oregon/Washington (2011) where he recounted his serendipitous entry into the PCT guidebook business decades earlier. He went into the Wilderness Press offices hoping to write the definitive work on the Owens Valley and the Eastern Sierra only to discover that it had already been written.  Instead Tom Winnett recruited Jeff to join the team he had organized to write the first PCT guidebooks.  The first California edition came out in 1973 and the Oregon/ Washington edition was published in 1974.  I, and many others, appreciated the more detailed descriptions of the flora, fauna, geology, and history provided by the Wilderness Press guides.  They sold over 100,000 copies.
Jeff Schaffer recently shared a little more background regarding the Wilderness Press guides. Tom Winnett was in charge of the first edition of the first California edition, first available in 1973. Jeff noted that “virtually all guidebooks used a 4.75" by 7.625" format, which would barely fit in men's pockets. Sexist, but very few women were backpacking back then. 15' topo maps were shot at 1:104,000 scale. To print them at 1:62,500 would have made the book much longer, and heavier (but then, in those days, everyone wore heavy packs; what's an extra few ounces? The maps are virtually useless at this scale, but at least they show a lateral extent of about 7 miles. We caught a lot of flack about the map quality (and about the poor binding - not our fault (OK, it was; Tom went with a very cheap printer).
Tumblr media
For the first edition of PCT: Oregon & Washington, we used the same book size, for continuity, and both 15' and 7.5' were shot at a 1:50,000 scale. The downside is that the lateral extent was about 3 miles. Bummer.
Back in 1975 my first edition of The Tahoe-Sierra Trail was published, and it was 6" by 9" and 320 pages. Had it been the old size, it would have been 400+ pages. No one screamed (maybe some cursed) at not being able to fit the book in their pants pockets. It set the new standard for guidebooks.
I took over for the next major editions, 1977 for PCT: California and 1979 for PCT: Oregon/Washington and what I introduced in this 6" by 9" format were sections, essentially from one major road crossing to another one, Sections A-R in PCT: California and A-L in PCT: Oregon/Washington. Also, each section had a section map (this not until 1995 in PCT: California, for economic reasons - damn expensive book!). The Forest Service eventually adopted my sections, and then the PCTA followed, and as they say, the rest is history.”

Train Your Brain With a New $225m Gaming Market Based on Latest Research on Brain Health and Fitness
This past Tuesday, the MIT Club of Northern California and SmartSilvers sponsored an event on The Emerging Brain Fitness Software Market: Building Better Brains to explore the realities and myths learn more of this growing field. An example is the line of Nintendo games, such as Brain Age and Brain Training, that have shipped over 15 million units worldwide despite limited scientific support, since 2005.
A spate of recent news coverage on brain fitness and "brain training" reflects a growing interest in natural, non-drug-based interventions to keep our brains sharp as we age. This interest is very timely, given the aging population, increasing Alzheimer's rates, and soaring health care costs that place more emphasis than ever on prevention and changing lifestyle.
This past Tuesday, the MIT Club of Northern California, the American Society on Aging, and SmartSilvers sponsored an event on The Emerging Brain Fitness Software Market: Building Better Brains to explore the realities and myths of this growing field. Before the panel, I had the chance to present an overview of the state of the Brain Fitness Software Market.
Why are we talking about this field at all? Well, for one, an increasing number of companies are achieving significant commercial success in packaging "brain exercise". An example is the line of Nintendo games, such as Brain Age and Brain Training, that have shipped over 15 million units worldwide despite limited scientific support, since 2005. What is less visible is that a number of companies and scientists are partnering to bring products to market with a more solid clinical validation. We estimate the US market was $225m in 2007 (growing from $100 in 2005). Wheras K12 Education used to be the major segment, adult consumers are responsible for most of that growth: we estimate the consumer segment grew from a few million in 2005 to $80 m in 2007.
Who is buying these products? Yes, of course, many adults over 50 who want to protect their memory are among the pioneers. 78 million baby boomers are eager to try new approaches. A growing number of retirement communities and nursing homes are offering programs to their residents to expand their usual fitness and social activities. And we can't forget about K12 education: certain brain fitness software packages have shown they can help kids who have dyslexia and related difficulties.
Is there science behind these claims? Do these products work? It depends on how we define "work". If "working" means quantifiable short-term improvements after a number of weeks of systematic "brain training" to improve specific cognitive skills, then the answer is that a number of programs do seem to work. If , on the other hand, "working" means measurable long-term benefits, such as better overall brain health as we age, or lower incidence of Alzheimer's symptoms, the answer is that circumstantial evidence suggests they may, but it is still too early to tell.
Are there any public policy implications? We certainly believe that there are. The Center for Disease Control recently partnered with the Alzheimer's Association to develop a comprehensive Cognitive Health roadmap to better guide research efforts and improve public education on the lifestyle habits that every proud owner of a brain could benefit from following. Given the high rates of traumatic brain injuries and stress disorders found in a large number of the men and women coming home from the Iraq war, the military is investing heavily in research to help identify problems to develop tools to solve them, and we expect that research will translate into wider health applications. No presidential candidate, to our knowledge, has directly addressed his or her priorities in the cognitive health realm but, given the growing importance and economic impact of brain-related disorders, we expect that to happen soon.

Why All Brands Should Study Stanley Cup CEO Terence Reilly's Marketing Masterclass
" Every so often, product marketing creates such a frenzy it becomes its own cultural moment - think Adidas Stan Smiths, Old Spice and Pokémon Go. The Stanley Cup phenomenon definitely fits the bill and is a masterclass in the power of well timed marketing and brand hype. This case study centers on one man, Terence Reilly, who was also responsible for turning Crocs into must have footwear. In this video, Forbes spoke with a number of product marketing experts to dissect what made the Stanley Cup a must have. "
Source: Forbes
Additional information:
" In the spring of 2020, Terence Reilly left his position as the chief marketing officer of Crocs, the footwear brand, and became the president of the beverage-container manufacturer Stanley. For Stanley, which had been selling workaday flasks for more than a century, it was an unexpectedly fashionable hire. At Crocs, Reilly had kicked off a kind of miracle. For years, the company’s stock price had hovered around thirteen dollars a share, and its signature shoe—clunky, holey, styrofoam-like—seemed to be beloved by Mario Batali and few others. Then Reilly took over as Crocs C.M.O, in 2015, bringing its marketing operations in-house, launching collaborations with celebrities like Post Malone, and embracing social-media notoriety. In 2018, Crocs stock began careening upward, eventually hitting a peak, in 2021, of a hundred and eighty dollars a share. Its negative reputation had become a kind of asset: the bad kind of recognizability turned into the good.
Reilly has in his short tenure at Stanley followed a similar playbook, and the result is a seemingly overnight ubiquity for the company’s tumblers, the large, steel-lined, two-segmented vessels that fit perfectly in car cup holders. In July of 2023, the brand launched its first celebrity collaboration, with the country musician Lainey Wilson, who produced a pink-and-green Watermelon Moonshine Quencher, named after one of her songs. It sold out in eleven minutes. In November, a woman named Danielle posted a TikTok showing her car after a fire, and a Stanley cup that had survived in the cup holder amid the wreckage. She picked it up and shook it: the telltale tinkle of ice cubes, which had remained frozen despite the flames. The video eventually garnered more than ninety-five million views, and Reilly recognized it as a perfect ad for the product’s durability. He posted his own video, pledging not only to send more Stanleys but to replace Danielle’s car. On New Year’s Eve, Target released new, exclusive Valentine’s Day Stanley tumblers in shades of red and pink ($45). The vessels incited stampedes down store aisles and sold out in minutes. On the online secondary market, they’ve fetched prices in the thousands. Recently, a woman in California allegedly stole sixty-five Stanley cups from a store and stuffed them into her car. The police issued a warning: “While Stanley Quenchers are all the rage, we strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits.”
Reilly is a clean-cut corporate warrior, with a bald head and a graying goatee. He began his career in New Jersey; held leadership positions at Famous Footwear, Footaction, and Prudential Financial; and has, by his own account, attended at least sixty-five Bruce Springsteen concerts. His effort to cultivate a new customer base for Stanley dates back several years. In 2019, the brand’s now star product, the forty-ounce Quencher, was selling so poorly that the company had stopped restocking or marketing it. A partnership with the Buy Guide, an affiliate-marketing site based in Utah, where the Quenchers were popular among Mormon mothers, saved it. Coached by the Buy Guide, in 2020, Stanley launched a new Web site and an affiliate-marketing system through which fans could make money by driving sales. By May of 2022, a Times headline was observing the cup’s burgeoning popularity among women: “The Sisterhood of the Stanley Tumbler.”
Last year, in a Harvard Business Review podcast, Reilly discussed his shakeup: “We were the seventy-million-dollar sleepy little brand known for the hammertone green bottle.” As he tells it, a hit like the pink Target bottle is just the beginning of a more ambitious rollout to come. “We firmly believe that we will become one of the leading life-style brands in the world over the next few years,” Reilly said. Right now, besides some camping cookware, Stanley’s products are confined to the beverage-and-container space. Given the brand’s rising fandom, it’s easy to imagine an expansion into clothing, wine chillers, or kitchenware. In Internet-era capitalism, a brand is rarely content to do one product well; it must scale up to penetrate as many markets as possible. (My request for an interview with Reilly was turned down, though a spokesperson told me that they’d “be in touch in a few months with news from Stanley!”)
The strategy of flipping an established brand into a digital-content machine has been carried off a few times already. In 2016, Rimowa, the stalwart German luggage manufacturer known for its striated metal carry-ons, sold a majority stake to L.V.M.H., the conglomerate of high-fashion luxury brands. Rimowa had a cachet among a small group of international travellers—a kind of if-you-know-you-know status. But under the L.V.M.H. scion Alexandre Arnault it became a widely coveted item. Rimowa added new, bright, Instagram-friendly colors; collaborated with fashion brands like Supreme and Off-White; and released new non-suitcase products like a metallic crossbody bag and a canvas tote. In a similar vein, Blundstone, the maker, since 1870, of rugged Australian desert boots, capitalized on a swell in popularity during the pandemic by adding design twists like rainbow elastic, punched leather, and tighter silhouettes. Yeti, a manufacturer of heavy-duty coolers, launched by Texas fishermen in 2006, also moved into insulated tumblers, and then stemless wine glasses with the help of private-equity investment in 2012. With limited-edition colors and an ever-expanding array of products, the brand became aspirational—“the field and stream equivalent of a Knoll daybed,” the streetwear publication Highsnobiety wrote.
In a way, the rebranding of staid but trusty products is the opposite of the strategy chased by the direct-to-consumer startups that proliferated in the twenty-tens. The D.T.C. brands that gained traction—Casper, Parachute, Great Jones—did so by dressing up unremarkable products with digital-native aesthetics to appeal to a very online demographic of millennials. Yet the products themselves were often disappointing, and many of the startups faltered. The surge of Stanley—whose products are based on an innovative steel-insulation technique by the company’s original founder, William Stanley, Jr., in 1913—suggests that it might be easier to bring a strong core product online than to start with an optimized online presence and then backfill in the product to fit.
To an investor or a new C.E.O., the sleepy heritage brand can work as an advantage. It has not yet saturated the market; there are more potential consumers to reach, more room for growth. (Compare Stanley in that respect to, say, the clothing brand Skims, which, like its co-founder, Kim Kardashian, is already marketed to the hilt.) An added benefit is the kind of ironic consumption that the Internet prizes: it’s amusing to be obsessed with a product that your grandparents might have once owned, or with an ugly sandal that’s suddenly cool. On social media, the Stanley straddles a line between banal and influencer-chic. TikTok creators pose coquettishly with the cup dangling from one hand, or decorate it with third-party charm accessories (not unlike the Crocs’s Jibbitz), or line shelves with rows of Stanleys in different hues, like so many books arranged by the color of their spines. On the Harvard Business Review podcast, Reilly said that he uses an “airport test” to determine if a product has truly entered the Zeitgeist: if people are lugging their Stanleys with them to their gates, he knows the tumblers have arrived. “By the time I left Crocs, you would see hundreds of pairs of Crocs at the airport,” Reilly said. Perhaps TikTok is the airport of the Internet: the Stanley’s prevalence in the digital public space is both a conduit for and evidence of its covetable status.
Amanda Mull, of The Atlantic, recently wrote of the Stanley craze, “Sometimes a cup is just a cup in the right place at the right time.” It’s true enough: the tumbler is yet another shiny object caught in the viewfinder of the Internet’s collective attention; we maniacally consume it for a few weeks or months, until the next trend appears and kicks off a new wave of memes and think pieces. What might appear to be an organic phenomenon, though, is actually an engineered corporate crossover. Companies prepare carefully, and expensively, to cultivate their moments of ubiquity. They leverage our attention, the same way an influencer does, to convert online viewers into fans and customers. The problem, of course, is that there’s no guarantee that a spike in visibility will yield lasting dividends. Before Stanley, there was the popular water-bottle brand Hydro Flask; today, TikTok videos show discounted stacks of them at HomeGoods. Now, as an informed friend and Stanley convert told me, Owala is the up-and-coming tumbler brand to watch. "

Tips for Making the Most of Women's History Month To help you have the best trip possible while celebrating Women’s History Month at Disney World, keep these tips in mind: Make dining reservations early. As soon as your 180-day booking window opens, reserve tables at the restaurants you most want to visit. Availability may be more limited than usual for signature dining rooms and special events. Check the hours. Some locations may have special hours for Women’s History Month offerings, so confirm before you go to avoid disappointment. Look into dining packages. Booking a dining package combines a meal with reserved seats for an entertainment offering like a fireworks' dessert party or a Cirque du Soleil show. This allows you to maximize your time in the parks and not have to wait in long standby queues. Download the My Disney Experience app. You’ll get up-to-date menus, mobile ordering capabilities, and notifications about extended hours or sold-out items. Link your tickets and dining reservations too. Arrive early or late. Without the help of FastPass, you may encounter long wait times at popular attractions. Try to tour the parks during parades, fireworks or the afternoon break to avoid peak crowds. Pack snacks. Bringing your own snacks can save money for splurges on unique specialty dishes. Granola bars, trail mix, and fresh fruit travel easily in a backpack. Share dishes. If you’re dining with a group, select one special appetizer and entrée to split so more people can try the seasonal offerings. Just request extra plates ahead of time.

Special Episode: Hotels in Del Mar, CA
Special Episode: Hotels in Del Mar, CA
Welcome to Dr. Mary Travelbest’s 5 Steps to Solo Travel Guide, for women like you who need extra support traveling (slowly) one woman at a time. Please share this podcast with your mom, aunts, and friends. I appreciate your feedback.
I’ve returned from a 90-day trip around the globe to every time zone on the planet. My mission is world peace through cultural exchange. I was sustainable when I could by using local transportation, buses, and trains. I was solo, carrying a small backpack, called a “personal item” that fit under the seat in front of me on a plane.
In this episode, FAQ is: Where was your next favorite place on your 90-day trip?
.
Today’s Destination is: Special Episode: Hotels in Del Mar
Today’s Mistake- I booked a hotel that was really a hostel in Manila
Travel Advice: Book at the source when you can and pay less plus control more.
FAQ: Where was your next favorite place on your 90-day trip?
Answer: For Iceland, the favorite place was Akureri, in the deep north of the country. It was a town of 20,000 residents, nestled in beautiful mountain areas. During my stay, there was an event for long-distance runners. The town came out to cheer them across the finish line after 100 miles of running, all the way from Godafoss. They had 43, 28 and 19 kilometer races, too. That was a powerful message to residents about getting and staying in shape.
I’ll do a podcast about this town soon, but for now, just say A-Ku-Rare-E, accent on the first syllable. That’s how they speak in Iceland.

Today’s destination: Hotels in Del Mar, CA
Suppose you’ve been to San Diego, California, a small beach town north of the city called Del Mar. “In Spanish, Of the Sea” literally. The town's size is small, less than 4000 people. You know that the tourists take up a big portion of the traffic in summer and during the horse racing seasons at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, 6 weeks in summer and 4 weeks in November.
L’Auberge, part of the Noble House Hotel Chain, is the highest-priced and most luxurious property of those near the beach. I met Taylor Webber, the Guest Experience Coordinator.
Hotel Indigo, Del Mar, and next door to…
Premiere Best Western, also called Hotel Del Mar
Del Mar Hotel upgraded from being the Del Mar Motel for many years. I met with the GM, Leslie Chavez.
Del Mar Hilton, near the Racetrack, is the lowest-priced one listed. the Yelp Reviews are less than favorable here.
You can google this and find hotels priced at $2500 a night at resorts like La Valencia. The price is not listed here for the Fairmont, Del Mar, which is in a different zip code several miles away. If you really want to stay IN Del Mar, you should consider one of these hotels, and I’ve been to each of them recently. If you have visitors this fall or winter, you may be in luck to score a room for them.
One of the best things I like to do in Del Mar is walk on the beach. You can also bring your dog to the beach during certain seasons on a leash. Tomorrow, I am going to a dog surfing contest in Del Mar. Seriously fun. The link is in the show notes if you want in next year.
https://www.visitdelmarvillage.com/all-events/18th-annual-surf-dog-surf-a-thon
  https://www.tmz.com/2023/05/19/bill-gates-mansion-bachelor-pad-completed-complaints-neighbors-noise/
One famous local resident is Bill Gates. He has a bachelor pad, recently upgraded, although purchased in 2020 for $43 million.
Today’s Mistake- I booked a hotel that was really a hostel.
It was called the White Banana but changed its name. It was The Connector.
The ad said, “kitchenette, deluxe new room,”
It was old, broken, and dirty, and cash payment was due upon arrival—no money back for no-shows. Reviews were 7/10. I was stuck to pay for my stay or lose my reservation while I tried to find somewhere else.
Loud street noise. Blocked out windows. Not a good part of town.
The repairman entered my room without even knocking. He apologized, but that should NEVER happen. The kitchenette had a refrigerator and a sink. There is no electrical outlet or even any silverware or dish. All was dirty. AC was broken. I caution if it seems too good online.
Today’s Travel Advice-Book at the source when you can and pay less plus control more.
Search out listings on websites like Expedia and Booking.com, and check reviews on reputable websites. THEN book directly with the properties and airlines when you can. That will give you more control as the middleman is removed, and the transaction should be less expensive, usually.

Wilderness Solo
Context:
This was written during a 10 day Wilderness Solo retreat as a part of the Four Seasons Journey, a year long course, run by the School of Shamanic Womancraft (SSW). And yes, that first sentence may take a reread or rererereread to understand lol, we love a good attention grabber. In the middle of those ten days, myself and six other women spent 3 days on our own water fasting with a tent, our medicine drum, and a journal with the intention of calling in a vision - hence calling this a Vision Quest. Our two teachers and apprentices held space at the home on this property by monitoring the walkie talkie (we could call in or whistle in case we needed anything). When I wrote this, it was the first full day of the Vision Quest, October 6th. Since then, I have done more processing and integration and feel deep gratitude for this experience - which is not really highlighted in this stage of the journey. I’m learning that by writing in rhymes, it helps me continue the writing flow by giving my thoughts some sort of loose structure.
In my experience, I haven’t come across much content of people who are beginning/in the middle of their “spiritual journeys”. Like most media, polarization is the most common stance - either social media is making fun of spiritual people, or it’s a guru preaching love and light. So, I volunteer as tribute to act as a Bridge.
My whole life I’ve always been drawn to nature as a teacher, which is what spirituality basically is, in essence. Then, as I started to get more into studying astrology in 2018, the world of mantras and meditation found its way into my orbit. I’d say that my move back to California in 2021 was the real start of my #journey, thanks to the ample supply of open hearted humans I met (specific shoutout to the gorgeous soul Austin) and the strong culture of psychedelics that exists. After 10 months of exploring the magical lands of Mexico, I signed up for the School of Shamanic Womancraft based in Australia, eager to wet my witchy whistle. Quite quickly, I felt like I was in over my head, that the other women were already so advanced in their abilities/careers/etc, and self-doubt began to emerge. Without saying much more, this poem/free write thang expresses those emotions of frustration, blame, and resistance about where I’m at in my journey. I wrote it right after I meditated and FINALLY felt like I connected to a higher frequency without any external assistance (to be explained more below).
I hope this share serves.
Much love,
Beth
Tumblr media
Woke up and choose love and gratitude
Sat outside, stared at a tree ribbon, changed my whole attitude
My vision started to blur into fractals
Figured I’d give meditation a crackle
Kept my focus on the stringy ribbon thing
Imagined my thoughts as a rat on a wheel
Killed the rat, put it for a rest
Continued to keep my focus as a test
Checked out of reality, said goodbye to time and space
The sun came out and surrendered without a trace
Not long into it, flys came around
Changed my position to in my tent, continued to ground
Breath flowing in and out with intention
Became aware of my energy, fostered a heart connection
There I felt a tightness around the chakra
Love myself is a fitting new mantra
Laying down, my thoughts began to drift
Give wings to my voice, spirit felt a lift
Had a check in with my guides, my family
I was most in tune to listen to their voice
James, Bernice, and Mildred intuitively came to me
Grandpa, Gramma, Aunt from my sequoia ancestry tree
Supported like a spider on a web spun with silk
There’s no point in climbing if the base isn’t built
Start small babe, don’t get in over your head
Life’s about taking risks, keep trying til you’re dead
Being so self aware at times feels like a burden
How I feel inside’s never hidden behind a curtain
Feeling behind my sisters’ abilities is a truth
I’m starting to ground and they’re astral projecting out the roof
Can’t trance dance or journey without weed
Reaching for the stars while feeling like a seed
“You already can” I am told but feel without guidance
My mom never pushed me, without support, feelings heighten
Swimming deep down into a lake of pity and resentment
My lungs burst for air so I climb onto a bench and
Look around, raise my eyebrow, and say - Why all this anger?
Everything happens for a reason, self sabotage is danger
Dangerously close to placing all my bets
Towards my future in a program whose pre-reqs I haven’t mastered yet
I keep trying hard, giving up’s not in my nature
In every course I’ve ever taken, I achieve the highest stature
Turns out shamanism isn’t quite like that
Your intuition initiation may come from a bat
In February, three years have passed since my breakup in Spain
The freedom to find myself has had doses of pain
Returned to home, took all the risks, spent weekends MIA
On Halloween I crashed my truck, to jail I was taken away
Fuck the justice system, fuck the US, I found an online job
Moved to Mexico to start anew, my dreams cannot be robbed
Loved living life as I desire outside my nine to five
Forty hour weeks compared to magic peeps who knew of no restrictions
Inspired me to realize I, too was worthy of abundance
Decided now was time to invest in skills that’d grant me everything I wish
Heard Australia’s a land of opportunities and ease
My bro is there and sister in law, getting a visa was a breeze
Go there for what? I considered, Not anything will do.
“Aha!” Said Kiki, my sister in law, “What about this school?
It’s called Shamanic Womancraft, their workshop was v cool!”
Women’s circles, wilderness solo, cyclical wisdom?
My curiosity peaked an all time high, my searching was done!
Quit my job, flew back home, changed my life in three short weeks
Surrender and trust in the unknown, what’s sown I’ll surely reap
Well, little research and lots of faith had unexpected results
Connection to Spirit has no instruction guide, no missing nails or bolts
Then how? I question, feeling lost and unqualified
Nothing’s working, nor my cycle’s flowing, no matter how hard I tried
The only hope that I find’s in the hands of Mary Jane
With her, I fly in meditations and hear voices of my guides
But without her medicine, I am a novice and tears come to my eyes
My final hope rests on the Wilderness Solo, surely answers’ll come
Yet, the same actions produce the same results, from the truth I cannot run
I push myself, so very hard, to sing, to drum, to dance
Wind, rain, and cold take me ahold, defeat’s my only trance
Finally the sun comes out, so I sit in meditation
Loving joy overwhelms me once I find my concentration
Small wins are much more valuable than aiming for the moon
To land amongst the stars feels sparkly and I shift my tune
This is my path, it’s full of surprises, and surely never boring
Into the lion’s den I fearlessly marched, and I’ll come out roaring
For some reason, this is necessary, perhaps later I’ll know
This seed has landed amongst giants - what motivation to grow!

Serving Well
"I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae, that you may welcome her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a patron of many and of myself as well."1
The role of women in the church has long been questioned. We've heard of some churches that require their women to be silent in church, whereas others are led by a woman pastor. There are religions where women are accumulated as wives here on earth in exchange for crowns in heaven; and others where the wife is covered and hidden — fit only to walk behind her husband. But if we allow God's Word to be our guide, we see that women had active roles in ministry throughout the Bible. God frequently used women for His glory — from wives and mothers to judges and queens, women have had prominent roles in scripture.
In the New Testament, we see various women involved in Jesus' ministry and later in the ministries of the apostles. One such woman was Phoebe, the apostle Paul's sister in the Lord, helper and servant of the church, and fellow missionary. Although we know little about her personal aspect, we do know that Phoebe was a committed Christian woman who loved the Lord and was dedicated to using her gifts to serve Him and His people. Paul opened the sixteenth chapter of the book of Romans with a greeting especially for her. He encourages the church to treat her in a way worthy of a saint and tells them to help her with anything she might need. He gives her the importance that few women received in the church of that day, and even in the church of today. But whether Phoebe's role was big or small, she served well. She carried her role out fully and in doing so, earned the trust and respect of the entire congregation, as well as the church leaders. What was important then, and holds the same importance today, is not the office we hold in the church, but the trust and respect we earn from doing it whole-heartedly, as to the Lord.
Paul also set an example for church leaders by demonstrating his confidence in Phoebe; entrusting her with important missions for the church and allowing her to hold a significant role in his ministry. We can thank God for leaders who have Paul's attitude — and pray for those who do not.2
Suggested Prayer: Dear God, thank you for allowing me to live in a country where I am free to worship you. Give me the opportunity to use my gifts and talents to serve others, giving all the glory and honor to you. Allow others to see you in everything I do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Romans 16:1-2 (ESV).

Stylish And Comfortable Italian Women's Clothing || ShopSofia
Women in Italy have always been renowned for their sense of style and sense of fashion. Italians are renowned for their practicality as well as their appreciation of fashion. Italian ladies typically dress in whatever is both comfortable and acceptable for the situation. Thus, Italian women may choose to wear pants or dresses, depending on the circumstance. The likelihood of an Italian lady wearing trousers increases if she will be engaging in vigorous physical exercise.
Tumblr media
This is so that you can move about more easily and comfortably in pants. Moreover, pants are typically thought to be better suitable for physical exercise. Nonetheless, an Italian lady is more likely to wear a dress if she's heading to a more formal event. As opposed to pants, dresses are regarded as being more formal and sophisticated. An Italian woman will always look her finest, regardless of what she is wearing. Italian ladies take pleasure in their looks and make an effort to dress nicely at all times.
When the windows are opened, it is simple to notice the attractiveness of each city, whether you are looking at Florence or Venice. The summer is the greatest time to wear fabrics that are more breathable, like organic cotton and linen. This won't affect anyone traveling to or from Christmas. We'll design OOTDs for both men and women in sixteen various looks. A short-sleeved shirt might be the best option if you want something more breathable. The gingham print panels of the dresses are stitched together, and they are designed in a whimsical cottage style. There are several incredibly beautiful churches, libraries, and museums in Italy.
Dress properly if you're interested in visiting these institutions. How are Italians dressed? The phrase is best described as refined, uncomplicated, and informal. We advise wearing jewel tones rather than coffee creams if you're unsure about what to wear in Italy. The standard tourist outfit consists of a button-up shirt in vivid color and a pair of ill-fitting dad shorts. Italian air is known for its finesse, sophistication, and grace. We advise putting together a complete monochromatic ensemble with a trench coat, turtleneck, and pleated pants.
What to wear in Italy is a question that can be answered by adding a few additions to your clothing. In Italy, you can dress decently if you want to; there is no set dress code. There are a few aesthetics you should be aware of if you wish to blend in. You should take price, quality, and material into account while purchasing clothing. There is no such thing as unattractive fashion; everyone has their own definition of what is beautiful. Quizzical eyes can be caused by certain visual traits. We created this helpful guide for you so that you don't have jet lag when flying.
In Italy, you can appear like a million bucks by wearing shorts.
Italians take pleasure in how they look, and they dress well for any public occasion. Although it is not necessary to dress conservatively (as many Italians do), wearing casual clothing in public, such as going barefoot or wearing beachwear, is often unacceptable and makes one feel out of place.
Tumblr media
You don't need to spend a fortune on the newest "stylish" attire to have a more genuine Italian appearance. Make sure the outfit you select fits you well. A great-fitting t-shirt and jeans might give you a trendy appearance and feel.
Italian women often wear tights. Wear tights if you feel comfortable doing so, whether you prefer sheer, fishnet, or opaque stockings. Boots are the go-to accessory for Italian women this season.
Shop-Sofia offers a wide selection of items such California Modal, tops, dresses, and pants, as well as comfy and opulent Italian silk dresses.
