You forgive Jinx but not Caitlyn? Here’s why.
Tumblr media
If we start from the idea that Jinx and Caitlyn are very similar and that the show increasingly emphasizes this; if we assume they both have traumas and reasons to be angry and violent; if we consider that their traumas are equally significant—because all trauma is equivalent when experiences differ—a trauma is still a trauma.
So why do we forgive Jinx but not Caitlyn? (Or at least, why do people seem to hate Caitlyn more than Jinx for her actions?) Caitlyn hasn’t done anything comparable to Jinx, who has many deaths on her conscience. Is it because she might have sacrificed a child? No, she wouldn’t have missed the shot—you know it, I know it, and so does she. Blaming her for a shot she didn’t take but would have succeeded at isn’t a valid reason.
Jinx isn’t more murderous, nor is she less so than Caitlyn. She’s not stronger...
Tumblr media
Here’s a little screenshot of Caitlyn getting the upper hand on Sevika. #SeviCait? 😆 Caitlyn is seriously badass—let’s not forget that.
She’s not stronger... or more loyal, fairer, or smarter…—she’s just more unstable.
So yes, that’s why so many people struggle to forgive Caitlyn’s actions compared to Jinx’s; it feels like Caitlyn does things with full awareness. When she strikes Vi, she’s fully present in the moment, taking her time to think before delivering the blow.
Tumblr media
Jinx, on the other hand, hits Vi much harder and more than once. But Caitlyn’s blow hurts more because it comes not just from the heart, but from the head as well.
Do I blame her? No, of course not—she’s my favorite character. And I dare say I love her even more now.
She’ll learn to handle frustration, she’ll keep thinking things through, and she’ll realize she’s being manipulated. She’ll make the right choices, because that’s who she is.

Sketch -> recent WIP (full on patreon)
Another piece I started several months ago. I think it's important to practice patience with ourselves when we start something but don't have the skills/time/energy to finish right away, especially creative endeavors! Learning that urgency is a tenant of white supremacy helped me to slow down and relax around my art (although it's an ongoing practice!). Art trends and social media can really put pressure on artists to produce instead of create, and to be fair, it is truly exciting when something you've made gets a lot of engagement and finding and making online community is amazing! It's a fine balance though because we can easily shift our motivations for creating away from our own internal satisfaction and fulfillment and become vulnerable to inscrutable algorithms and parasocial expectations.
Caitjinx is not a popular ship, and it's not my main ship, but I love the drama and how they're both foils and similar to each other!

not sure if i've ever talked about this before but there's this one caitjinx au i have in which caitlyn is a psychiatrist who specializes in serial killers and jinx is a serial killer who's been put in stillwater(which is like a highly secure prison facility)and caitlyn's hired to treat jinx only for her to end up falling her for in the process and thanks to jinx gives in to her deepest and most horrifying desires
so basically in this au their relationship is just "your crazy matches my crazy"

Can we talk about this scene?
Caitlyn twirling an antique flintlock, a veritable museum piece, head all a-swirl with thoughts of her little nemesis? Warning: long caitjinx rant ahead.
This is a world where breech-loading cartridge repeaters are commonplace. By comparison, that thing is ancient. It probably takes half a minute to reload, jams if you look at it wrong, and demands a whole ass powder-horn and cleaning kit. So why does she have even it? More than have it, she's comfortable, even casually familiar with it. She toys with it thoughtlessly, like something she carries every day. It's clearly more than just a hobby piece or an heirloom. It makes no sense. Unless we consider....
The Romance of it
It takes intention and care to fire a gun like that. The barrel needs to be swabbed with every shot, the charge needs to be measured out, the shot rammed home (slower on a rifled muzzle loader with tight tolerances, as this piece surely is), the tiny pan carefully primed. Imagine Caitlyn working through the steps like a ritual, Jinx on her mind. This shot is for you, she might whisper under her breath, and there is none other like it. It's a promise made: a vow that she will look her in the eye and for at least one moment, as the pan catches the spark and flame races through the touch-hole into the barrel, they will know each other.
Once loaded, this kind of gun cannot be unloaded. I think of Jack Sparrow, hanging on to the pistol with the shot that Barbossa loaded for him all those years ago. I think of bullets with names carved into them, and digging two graves before setting out for revenge, two bodies laying side by side for the longest night. An enemy can be as intimate as a lover, and I think this scene gets that.
So yeah. Give caitlyn her sexy flintlock and lets see what she does with it.

Caitlyn and Jinx: Fueled by Vengeance and Love.
Ok, I saw some messages suggesting that Caitlyn wasn’t necessarily very sincere during the kiss and that it was a bit manipulative, justified by her expression right after in the tunnel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Caitlyn was sincere with the kiss. She is consumed by vengeance, that's a fact, and that's why after the kiss, when they're walking in the tunnel, her expression turns hard again because she refocuses. But I genuinely believe that when she kissed Vi, she was sincere.
She doesn't feel like she's changing, she doesn't see that she's 'going off the rails.' And that's why, when Vi grabs her arm and says, 'You're the one acting like her (Jinx),' where Caitlyn should say, 'Yes, you're right, I'm sorry,' she loses it because vengeance and anger take over—she's just blinded. But she's still herself.
Tumblr media
It's more of a duality than a change in behavior. It's an internal battle between who she is and who she could become if she lets herself be blinded by vengeance, which is exactly what happened to Jinx.
There's a strong parallel between Jinx and Caitlyn because their traumas split their identities in two: one who loves Vi more than anything and is ultimately a good person with a moral compass, and one consumed by vengeance, who punishes Vi.
Jinx punishes Vi because she gets closer to Caitlyn and the enforcers, and Caitlyn punishes Vi because she gets closer to Jinx and Zaun.
Caitlyn sees Jinx when she looks at Vi because they share the same blood.
Jinx sees Caitlyn when she looks at Vi because they share the same uniform.
And the parallel is even stronger because Jinx becomes a symbol for Zaun and a leader, just like Caitlyn for the Piltovians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where some might think Caitlyn is becoming like Jinx, I believe she’s always had that potential in her. Just as Jinx might have been an adorable little girl without trauma, here we have two highly intelligent, curious people, but with traumas that struck at different ages—Jinx as a child and Caitlyn much later. That’s why Jinx is more unstable, because she was still developing her sense of self, whereas Caitlyn had time to blossom and strengthen her identity.
Jinx is more unstable than Caitlyn, with less control. Others have already discussed their weapon choices, which align well with what I think here: both are primarily long-range fighters, precise by nature, but Jinx’s instability is expressed through her explosives, in contrast to Caitlyn’s sniper rifle. This highlights Caitlyn’s control—she’s calculated and thoughtful.

Kissy babies! I love them so much! This one has been in the works forever and I feel like it came out very nicely.
Full transparency, I stole the Zaun background on the first pic from Arcane and enhanced it a little. Because I was too lazy to redraw the whole thing.
Anyhow, check out my links below!
