I'm gonna preface this by saying this post is NOT aimed at anyone and I absolutely do not encourage harassment of any kind to anyone. with that being said....

what the hell is up with proshippers being OBSESSED with kids' media?

I understand that a large majority of proshippers use proshipping to cope with their own life (which is a very flawed way of coping btw) and that proshipping from kids media must, on some level, make them feel seen. however, my problem is that these people make these proshipping views readily accessible to the public.

a large majority of proshippers post their content on websites without the resources to appropriately age-restrict content, while ALSO using buzzwords that directly relate to the media theyre posting about, which means that younger kids looking for content about that media can very easily be exposed to that kind of thing. and when they see that people are posting these kinds of things about their favourite shows, it normalises it for them.

it makes them less able to speak out against abuse they may be experiencing themselves and makes them more likely to turn to proshipping as a coping mechanism instead of TELLING SOMEONE. proshippers who allow their content to reach <18 audiences are directly encouraging this kind of behaviour to happen to kids IN REAL LIFE.

even if fiction does not DIRECTLY affect reality, it affects our feelings and how we VIEW reality. JAWS affected how people view sharks, games like Detroit: Become Human and Persona 5 use their games to commentate on societal problems and injustices, and so on and so forth.

just to clarify in case my meaning got a bit muddied in my spiel: I do not hate proshippers. what you do in your own time and in the privacy of your own home, as long as it is not physically or mentally damaging other people, is none of my goddamn business. if you place a strict <18 ban on your content and vet people before allowing them into your community, then I don't give a fuck. HOWEVER, if you are allowing yourself to post about proshipping childrens media in a place where you KNOW children can see it, you're disgusting and I sincerely hope you see what you're doing is wrong.

tl;dr, PLEASE start age-checking people before you allow them to view your proship content. and please stop proshipping in children's media in places where children can see it.

Proshipping is not that bad. People just make a big deal out of it because they're sour. None of y'all would survive on AO3 and it shows.
