I'm gonna preface this by saying this post is NOT aimed at anyone and I absolutely do not encourage harassment of any kind to anyone. with that being said....

what the hell is up with proshippers being OBSESSED with kids' media?

I understand that a large majority of proshippers use proshipping to cope with their own life (which is a very flawed way of coping btw) and that proshipping from kids media must, on some level, make them feel seen. however, my problem is that these people make these proshipping views readily accessible to the public.

a large majority of proshippers post their content on websites without the resources to appropriately age-restrict content, while ALSO using buzzwords that directly relate to the media theyre posting about, which means that younger kids looking for content about that media can very easily be exposed to that kind of thing. and when they see that people are posting these kinds of things about their favourite shows, it normalises it for them.

it makes them less able to speak out against abuse they may be experiencing themselves and makes them more likely to turn to proshipping as a coping mechanism instead of TELLING SOMEONE. proshippers who allow their content to reach <18 audiences are directly encouraging this kind of behaviour to happen to kids IN REAL LIFE.

even if fiction does not DIRECTLY affect reality, it affects our feelings and how we VIEW reality. JAWS affected how people view sharks, games like Detroit: Become Human and Persona 5 use their games to commentate on societal problems and injustices, and so on and so forth.

just to clarify in case my meaning got a bit muddied in my spiel: I do not hate proshippers. what you do in your own time and in the privacy of your own home, as long as it is not physically or mentally damaging other people, is none of my goddamn business. if you place a strict <18 ban on your content and vet people before allowing them into your community, then I don't give a fuck. HOWEVER, if you are allowing yourself to post about proshipping childrens media in a place where you KNOW children can see it, you're disgusting and I sincerely hope you see what you're doing is wrong.

tl;dr, PLEASE start age-checking people before you allow them to view your proship content. and please stop proshipping in children's media in places where children can see it.

Proshipping is not that bad. People just make a big deal out of it because they're sour. None of y'all would survive on AO3 and it shows.

you ever see someone with a kawaii pastel aesthetic blog theme and your subconscious assumes they're a proshipper before you realize the inherent horror in the fact that proshippers have so effortlessly infiltrated innocent childlike aesthetics that you now have to be worried that anyone who likes sanrio is a pedophile and how easily this can be used to lure children into dangerous online spaces where they'll be groomed into doing sick shit for a bunch of creepy adults who will justify their actions by saying it's "just fiction" and ignore the real children they've directly impacted. i hope every proshitter rots in hell

Anti v proship, aka antishipping versus proshipping. Essentially i was making fun of the fact that the loudest person making a million posts had begun their rant by making a massive post about all the ins and outs of why a fictional ship in emh was "bad", thus they would likely be considered an "anti-shipper", someone who is against more "problematic" ships. A lot of the time, ppl who are "anti-shippers" conflate proshipping (proshipping means pro...shipping, aka being pro do whatever, block what you dont like, NOT problematic shipping (shipping incest, rape, pedophilia etc), but anti shippers tend to say thats what it means, it doesnt) with problematic shipping and spend a lot of their time blustering and screaming about ships that they view as problematic or morally bad in some way. A lot of the time people who engage in the anti vs proshipping discourse have a very very bad habit (wink wonk) of discussing subjects they either know nothing about, lie about the situations/characters outright, or are legit just whining about an icky ship in their precious fandom. There is almost never ANY evidence or proof to back claims they might make. Im not saying all of this is what was in the post, this is just a general thing.

So when i said anti vs proship discourse ring, i was referring to them screaming about this ship and how bad it is and then all their mutuals being in their comments and reblogs encouraging and creating an echo chamber to validate them. It was mostly just me being petty and making fun of someone wasting time on something that is very unimportant and silly in the grand scheme of things, rather than actually engaging in an intelligent discussion about the very very VERY real problems of minor safety, inappropriate behavior from minors towards adults and vice versa, and pedophilia/grooming with REAL PEOPLE that is rampant in this fandom.

For some reason, i get called a proshipper a lot for this line of thinking, which is very odd to me but its whatever.

TLDR Shipping discourse is stupid and this whole echo chamber of shoddy claims is coming from one person that started ranting about a problematic ship they didnt like and it seems to have set them into a morality spiral, and i was being a dickhead and making fun of it because im a tired asshole who doesnt want to hear about shipping discourse anymore.
