rewatching Elementary (TV) and like! in awe of the messages they send about morality! obviously the show has copaganda, and a major aspect of the show is “breaking the law here means we get the right guy in prison” which is… *gestures* not the greatest thing to say. but what is also present is Holmes’ and Watson’s morality and insistence on doing good, while also acknowledging that the world is not black and white but also shades of gray. S2E10 has a short clip about this topic at around 26 minutes in. Part of S2E10 mentions that it is good that a mentally ill person is not wrongly imprisoned even after he has been framed in a way that really makes him look guilty. there is also discussion of addiction and obsession in Elementary, and neither is demonized! the misogyny in Elementary is very much present, and there’s not really anything to excuse it - but i do enjoy this show quite a lot, and being able to rewatch it and think about police and the institution of police more critically means i get more out of the show, i think.

this isn’t a coherent post at all. but being able to watch this show again with the knowledge i have now is super interesting. also Elementary as a TV show is LEAGUES BETTER than Sherlock.

Ok so one of the things we were all wondering after last episode was in what way does Zerxus, this quiet humble man unsure of his job and frightended of his dreams, fit in thematically to the arrogance of all the other characters? Tonight it seems like we got out answer.

Because Zerxus sees himself on an equivalent emotional level to the gods. He doesn’t respect divinity, and what that really means is he thinks he can change the mind of the lord of hells. At first, I thought he was just insane for not having heard how much Asmodeus is a bad guy, but then Zerxus implored him to think of his son, the city, and to spare them some day. And I realized that Zerxus is showing kindness not from a place of naïveté, but from one of trust and compassion and, yes, arrogance. Zerxus thinks he can make The Lord of Hells a forgiving person through kindness and understanding.

The idea of a mini-campaign built entirely around the concept of tragic dramatic irony has me going fully fucking feral. We’re going to watch this thing and fall in love with characters and the whole time know that whatever they do, whatever their triumphs or setbacks or goals, it will all end in terror and bloodshed add the deaths of millions. This is absolutely going to break me.

Do y’all think that Essek wears or shows something distinctive through his disguise so that Caleb can always find him and even after Caleb is long gone whenever Essek uses disguise self he keep the thing around because he misses Caleb. I’m thinking like a promise ring/wedding band or a necklace or better yet the parepet of wound closure (Molly��s old necklace) even though they don’t really adventure to much any more. People would ask Essek if he is married or where his spouse was and he’d just point to his heart.

Literally Bertrand Bell was a goofy fucking man but in that last scene, with Dorian. He really showed a much more serious side, even in his silly drunken stupo. He seemed to hide his problems with overconfidence and in that moment he was genuinely happy. Then Dorian offered to go with him in the walk but he refused, he just wanted to be dependable the next day. I think people can respect that. The way he became in his last moments was like he wasn’t drunk anymore. He wasn’t the same Bertrand as we had seen him in Cr3 yet. He then whispered Lieve’tel’s name which man that hits hard. She was probably one of the best thing to happen to him in a long while and I don’ think they were still together in Cr3. I think it was in the second episode when Fearne asked him if he had a partner and he said not in a long while. In his last moment he was thinking about his days with Lieve’tel because they were probably some of his happiest. I loved seeing him get brought back and now he’ll help another group of adventures on a quest, by giving this group a reason to stick together.
