Make Love not War
Historical Peace Movements and the Ongoing Relevance of War and Peace Since antiquity, philosophers and state leaders have grappled with the concepts of war and peace. Early on, thinkers like Plato and Aristotle recognized the destruction that wars can bring and advocated for peace as the ideal state for humanity. In the Middle Ages, the Church played a significant role in promoting ideas of peace, including through the 'Peace of God movement', which aimed to minimize wars among Christians.
The modern era saw the emergence of organized peace movements, particularly in the 19th century, when societies such as the American Peace Society and the British Peace Society were founded. These organizations advocated for the peaceful resolution of international disputes and laid the groundwork for later international cooperation to prevent conflicts.
The 1960s: A Turning Point The 1960s marked a high point of peace movements, driven by the shadow of the Cold War and the fear of nuclear annihilation. In the UK, this led to the founding of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) in 1958, whose peace symbol became a global sign of resistance against war. In the USA, the Vietnam War mobilized wide sections of the population, especially young people and students, who through organizations like Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and others, initiated massive protests and demonstrations against the war.
The Carnation Revolution: A Peaceful Overturn A prominent example of a successful and predominantly peaceful revolution is the Portuguese Carnation Revolution of 1974. This revolution not only ended nearly five decades of dictatorship in Portugal but also inspired movements worldwide that saw changes could be achieved through nonviolent means. The soldiers who carried carnations in their gun barrels became a lasting symbol of peaceful change and demonstrated that the military can play a constructive role in promoting democracy and human rights.
Current Situation: War and Peace in the 21st Century Today, at a time when conflicts are increasing in many parts of the world, the issue of war and peace remains of crucial importance. Regional conflicts, the risk of escalation of violence, and the humanitarian crises caused by wars call on us to learn from history and strengthen active peace efforts. The lessons from movements like the Carnation Revolution and the protests of the 1960s show that societal and international pressure can be crucial in bringing about political changes and securing peace in the long term.

okay ill post cnd art, Im not normally the GM but currently im running a mini-arc in CND called Candyloss [it was heavily inspired by Genloss] in which the god of entertainment, Babel, has kidnapped the party and is forcing them to be actors in his tv shows. So far they've been chased down by mind-controlled/wire-infested employees, helped escape by Babel's half-sister and demigoddess of daydreams, Gyrle, and hunted by Babel's assistant, Huntress. Its a story of drama violence and betrayal baby!

January Giallo Day 15 Twitch of the Death Nerve (AKA A Bay of Blood) I saw in an interview that this was one of @edgarwright's favorite films and then I also recently found out that this was the inspiration for Friday the 13th. Both are very solid reasons to watch this movie. I'm so mad at myself for not watching this sooner. This movie is so fuckin great. I can't necessarily agree with it being the start of giallo, since Argento released The Bird With The Crystal Plumage a year earlier. But this is most definitely the birth of the slasher. This movie really does have it all. A brutal body count, great practical effects, the story is bonkers, but not impossible to follow. There's also kill scenes that Friday most definitely ripped, but in a homage way. My only, and very minor, issue was with the last 2 mins. The ending was a little too silly for me. But it doesn't ruin the experience. This is definitely one I hope @arrowvideo does a 4K Box of. Would love to add this to the collection. #Horror #HorrorMovies #HorrorJunkie #BloodJunkie #GoreWhore #Blood #Guts #BloodAndGuts #Shudder #HorrorReviews #MovieReviews #EverydayIsHalloween #InfectedVoice #Metal #MetalAndHorror #MetalHead #SpoilsOfWar #JanuaryGiallo #ItalianHorror #TwitchOfTheDeathNerve #ABayOfBlood #MarioBava #TheEdgarWrightChallenge https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnd-vNquzKz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Professional Shellac Manicures in Oslo - Find Your Perfect Salon Now!
Shellac is a natural glue and clear coating. It was previously used in dentistry to make dentures and other products, and also as a coating on drug tablets. It's not often used for these purposes anymore because it ages overtime.
People sometimes use shellac for tooth sensitivity and other conditions, but there's no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
Don't confuse medicinal shellac with shellac wood finishes, which are poisonous.
Lac is secreted by female lac bugs, most commonly of the species Kerria lacca. The bugs are actually parasitical and can be hosted by more than 300 species of trees throughout India, Thailand, China, and Mexico.2 Among these trees are those in the pea family, Indian jujubes, soapberries, hibiscus species, and the Barbados nut. Today, about 90% of lac comes from palash (Butea monosperma), ber (Ziziphus mauritiana), and kusum (Schleichera) trees.3
The lac bugs suck sap from the bark, knowingly feeding to death, while simultaneously laying up to 1,000 eggs over a five-week period.4 The sap undergoes a chemical transformation in their bodies so that when it's secreted, it hardens on contact with the air and creates a protective shell around the eggs. That hard shell is what's harvested to make shellac.
Plantation workers cut off entire chunks of branches coated in the stuff—the branches are a product themselves, called sticklac—and send them to refineries to be scraped off, ground down, and screened to remove dead insects and wood debris.
After rinsing, drying, being melted into a liquid, and drying again, the amorphous substance is liquified using a solvent (usually ethyl alcohol).
Lac naturally has a red-orange tint that is somewhat removed during the refining process. Still, the final shellac product is not entirely clear and must be mixed with sodium hypochlorite—pure bleach—to remove residual color. The resulting white powder is preferred for cosmetics over the original red-orange lac.
Environmental Impact
The environmental impact of lac manufacturing has been compared to that of silk. It's what happens after the lac is harvested that has the greatest effects.
The ethyl alcohol often used to liquify shellac is considered a volatile organic compound.5 VOCs are bad for the environment because they act as greenhouse gases, and the production of ethanol—in particular—has been linked to large-scale habitat destruction.6
Is Shellac Vegan?
Traditional shellac is not considered vegan as it exploits lac bugs for their lacquer-like secretions.
However, the glossiness of shellac is sometimes replicated through chemical processes and still marketed as shellac even though it doesn't come from insects. For instance, the nail polish brand CND has patented a gel-polish hybrid called shellac that's inspired by the shine and resiliency of the natural resin but is instead made of solvents, monomers, and polymers.

"Chasing New Dawn" influences
As I shared Chasing New Dawn in various writing groups, I realized that the vast majority of people in those groups had no idea what tropes I was referencing, because they didn’t grow up on things like Sailor Moon and Power Rangers, or the teen dramas I watched and shojo manga I read. So, just for fun, I decided to put together some of the major influences. Some influences were more direct than others, and, in a lot of cases, it was more about being influenced by themes, aesthetics and world-building than any plot points or characters. And I’m well aware that several of the things on this list are a bit obscure (if not completely unknown) in the West - but then, I would be surprised if there’s anyone who would recognize everything atop of their heads.
In cases where there’s more than one version of a work (like a book and a TV adaptation). In cases like that, I listed it under whichever version I’m most familiar with/inspired by.

Rebecca’s Wedding
Last week I had the pleasure of making up gorgeous interior decorator, Rebecca Pitt and her two bridesmaids (above) Sophy and Elsie (fellow friend and co owner of BYBI Beauty). Rebecca’s wedding was taking place in Royston, Cambrideshire at a gorgeous location. I set my alarm for 430 am (I’m always super early as I can’t stand the thought of ever being late) , downed a very large coffee and left North London on the 6am train to Royston with kit in tow to meet her and her bridal party at their hotel, Banyers House.
Rebecca wanted a very 60′s inspired look with neutral nails, fresh skin and doe eyes. She sent me a fantastic mood board *below* with inspiration and ideas of the kind of vibe she was going for :
*I’ve reposted these pics from Bridesmaids Sophy and Elsie while the official photos are being edited but you can get a sense for the makeup/nails below.*
Rebecca’s Look
For bride Rebecca’s look, I created a really fresh dewy skin. I first cleansed her skin with Sukin Micellar Water then prepped it with Dermalogica Ultra Calming Serum Concentrate. I absolutely love to use this on Bride’s as it just calms down any skin flare ups and gives a really immediate soothing feel to the skin.
I then went in with a little more skincare (primer, lip balm, eye cream, moisturizers etc) and then created a flawless base with a medium coverage foundation, full coverage concealor and light coverage powder. I used a nude lip pencil and lipstick as well as a soft warm blush. Her eyes were the focus of the look with a subtle, blended brown liner and shadow on the lower lash line and a soft smokey finish on the top using all matte eyeshadows to create a more 60′s feel.
To really get that doe eyed 60′s look Rebecca was after I used Eylure’s Emma Willis All The Aces corner lashes with a generous amount of Pixie Lash Booster Blackest Black Water Proof Mascara :
For her Shellac nails, I used CND Shellac Cashmere Wrap :
Sophy’s Look
For Sophy’s Look *above right*, I used Jane Iredale’s Naturally Glam Eyeshadow Palette with lots of brown gel liner and mascara. I kept the skin fresh with a natural medium coverage foundation and some peach blusher on the cheeks. Lips were kept nude with a deeper lip pencil and I filled in her brows ever so slightly.
For Sophie’s nails, I used 2 coats of CND Shellac Bare Chemise with 1 Coat of CND Shellac Romantique on top :
Elsie’s Look
For Elsie *above*, I also used the Jane Iredale Naturally Glam eyeshadow palette, but extended her liner into more of a winged shape. I also used a peachy blush on her cheeks and brushed her brows slightly up to really accentuate her eyes. For her skin I used a satin finish foundation with Jane Iredale’s Active Light concealor and a nude lip.
For Elsie’s nails I also used 2 coats of CND Shellac Bare Chemise with 1 Coat of Romantique on top.
I absolutely loved being part of this special day, when you see the girls all getting ready together happy and ready to walk down the isle it makes the early start times so worth it and now that I’m a married woman too it feels even more special working on Wedding’s as it brings back all that excitement and anticipation of the day! I can’t wait to see the official coverage from @vermanphotography of this wedding! Congratulations Mr & Mrs Wynne !
