RAF typhoons are sent to Poland for joint exercises before the Warsaw Security Forum
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 03/10/2023 - 16:00in Military
Four British Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighters were sent to Poland to conduct joint training exercises alongside allied aircraft from Poland, Spain and Italy.
The deployment will provide an opportunity for RAF pilots to practice air combat against different types of aircraft and develop tactics to exploit their weaknesses.
The Typhoons, which were sent to Poznan Air Base today, will remain in Poland for two weeks and will attack targets outside visual range, simulating several possible combat scenarios. They will be supported by a team of more than 50 RAF employees during the deployment.
Tumblr media
It is just one of many joint exercises carried out with Polish forces, including the permanent sending of hundreds of troops from the United Kingdom to Poland, as part of NATO's commitment under Operation CABRIT.
The activity comes before the participation of UK Ministers in the Warsaw Security Forum this week. Defense Minister James Heappey and FCDO ministers Anne-Marie Trevelyan and Lord Ahmad will use the forum to emphasize the need to maintain support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia.
Tumblr media
Earlier this year, the foreign ministers and defense ministers of the United Kingdom and Poland signed a strategic partnership on foreign policy, security and defense - emphasizing the commitment of both countries to European security and collective defense through NATO.
On Wednesday, James Heappey will visit the RAF personnel deployed with the Typhoons, as well as the troops deployed in eastern Poland operating the Sky Sabre surface-to-air missile system, strengthening Poland's air defenses near the border with Ukraine.
Tumblr media
The Warsaw Security Forum focuses on transatlantic cooperation in response to common challenges, organized for the first time in 2014, bringing together ministers and senior officials from all over the defense to provide a forum to discuss the challenges faced by Central and Eastern Europe, and the international community in general.
The United Kingdom is the partner nation of this year's Warsaw security forum and the British Embassy in Warsaw worked closely with the Polish government and conference organizers to design a program that reflected the UK's objectives and views, as described in the Refresh 2023 Integrated Review and Defense Command Document 2023.

2024 NY
I tried to catch a bus, but there were no direct busses to Portsmouth. However, the bus driver sugggested to rent the bus (as a taxi). This was quite expensive, but it worked and I managed to get to Portsmouth.
The city was full of young people, there was a nice tall ship parked in the bay.
I first went to the bar at Cabrits National Park. I remember this place from sailing. I got a few beers there.
Later I went searching for the “Chez Felix”, but it turns out it no longer exists. It was destroyed by a hurricane a couple of years ago.
I went to the next bar and I asked about “Chez Felix”. The bar owner told me that Felix moved to Gaudeloupe.
I stayed about one hour at this bar, sipping some rum drink and watched the sunrise and then I went back.
There were almost no busses after the sunset, but I met some poor guy who was trying to hitch-hike and he helped me to find a taxi office, where I got the taxi back to the capital - Roseau.
The poor guy told me that there will be many people coming to the beach for the New Years.
I got back to my hotel by taxi. The cruise ship left and the city was sad and empty.
I spent the New Years in my hotel room.

Pier Restoration - Providing Peace of Mind
Whether you’re watching the sun set on a warm summer evening or waking up to a beautiful sunrise, there is nothing quite like a peaceful waterfront view. The pier that supports your home is a vital part of enjoying these moments and ensuring your property remains protected from damage. If your pier is showing signs of distress, a pier restoration will restore your pier’s ability to protect your home or business and provide you with years of stress-free enjoyment.
Like all buildings, piers require regular maintenance and upkeep to ensure proper performance. Over time, the salt-laden marine environment and heavy wave action can cause erosion that affects pier strength. This erosion can lead to cracking and deterioration, resulting in the need for repair or replacement of parts.
Piers are generally built with a main sill beam on the perimeter and shaker sill beams underneath to support the walls, floor and ceilings of your home. The main sills and shakers are constructed of long 4" by 6" boards that are stacked to form a pier structure. The piers are then topped with a concrete cap to protect the pier from further damage.
Over time, these wood structures can be affected by the rising and falling of the soil beneath your foundation. This can create an unstable surface for the structure to rest on and can lead to settlement, shifting and buckling of the floors and walls of your home. The type of pier and the square footage of your home will usually play a role in how much movement occurs. Larger homes tend to settle and shift more than smaller ones.
In addition to restoring and replacing damaged or rotted piers, re-shimming your pier and beam foundation can help stabilize the floors of your home and correct any unevenness in them. Re-shimming involves raising the floors of your pier and beam foundation and inserting steel shims between the floor and joists. Sometimes the joists or the floor itself might need to be replaced, particularly if they’re infested with termites or have rotted out due to water seepage. It’s also important to treat a pier and beam foundation for rodent or insect infestation, which can cause rot or even structural failure of the wood.
The first step in a pier restoration is to perform a thorough inspection of the structure and its foundation. An elevation is taken around the flooring using a "Zip Level" and crawl spaces are inspected. Then the project coordinator will mark the areas where push piers need to be installed. Soil is excavated to the foundation’s footer in those areas, and piers are driven into the ground using a hydraulic bottle jack. Each pier is installed to a depth that exceeds the pier’s verified bearing stratum, and is tested under load after installation to ensure its stability.
Once the pier restoration is complete, M/V Pacific Hope will once again be able to dock at Cabrits National Park and provide needed medical services in the local community. Range Developments is proud to be a part of this historic project that will serve the community for generations to come.
Precise Restumping & Underpinning successfully maintains a reputation for delivering quality, reliable and sound services to clients all over New South Wales, with a licensed builder that personally oversee all work.

Exploring Portsmouth
Tumblr media
Set on the enchanting island of Dominica, the vibrant city of Portsmouth calls out to travelers with its intriguing blend of rich history, natural charm, and a dynamic sense of adventure. As an impassioned writer and a daring explorer, I found myself irresistibly pulled towards this incredible destination, eager to explore its hidden gems and share my experiences with fellow travelers yearning for exciting escapades.
When to Go:
Choosing the perfect time to visit Portsmouth primarily depends on your preferences and intended experiences. With its tropical climate, Dominica enjoys warm temperatures all year round, ranging between 25 to 30 degrees Celsius (77 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit). The dry season, spanning November to April, is ideal for sun-seekers, while the lush greenery of the rainy season, running from May to October, contributes a magical touch to the landscape. Keep in mind, hurricanes occasionally occur during June to November, so it's advisable to stay updated with the weather forecast before your trip.
How to Get There:
Reaching Portsmouth is an adventure in its own right, as you kickstart your journey to this Caribbean paradise. The most straightforward way to access Dominica is by flying into Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM), situated approximately 30 minutes from Portsmouth. Several international airlines offer flights to Dominica, promising a smooth and hassle-free journey for travelers. Alternatively, you can opt for a ferry ride from neighboring islands like Guadeloupe or Martinique, allowing you to witness breathtaking coastal scenery before setting foot on Portsmouth's shores.
Where to Stay:
In Portsmouth, accommodations mirror the city's adventurous spirit and offer varied options to cater to every traveler's taste. For luxury seekers craving serenity, enjoy the exquisite beachfront resorts that pepper the coast, offering stunning panoramas of the Caribbean Sea. If you prefer an intimate experience, consider the boutique hotels within the city that allow you to immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture. For budget-conscious travelers, guest houses and eco-lodges provide a comfortable and affordable stay, emphasizing sustainability and proximity to natural beauty.
Gastronomy and Culture:
Prepare to embark on a gastronomic journey that will satiate your taste buds and awaken your senses. Dominica's cuisine blends Creole, Caribbean, and European influences, resulting in a tantalizing fusion of flavors. Explore local restaurants and sample traditional dishes like "callaloo," a leafy green vegetable stew, or "mountain chicken," an unusual delicacy derived from the native giant frog. Don't miss the opportunity to attend a lively Creole festival, brimming with vibrant music, dance, and mouthwatering street food, giving you a glimpse into the island's rich cultural tapestry.
Activities and Sights:
Adventure is synonymous with Portsmouth, and there is no shortage of exhilarating experiences to be had. Begin your exploration by stepping into the remarkable Morne Diablotin National Park, where you can hike to the summit of Mount Diablotin, Dominica's highest peak. Your reward is a breathtaking panorama of cascading waterfalls, lush rainforests, and sweeping coastal vistas. For water enthusiasts, Cabrits National Park is a must-visit. Dive or snorkel in the pristine waters of Prince Rupert Bay, discovering a vibrant underwater world bursting with colorful coral reefs and diverse marine life. To delve into the island's history, wander through Fort Shirley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site within the park, uncovering the tales of battles waged and victories gained.
Tours and Tips:
To fully absorb the wonders of Portsmouth, consider embarking on guided tours that spotlight the city's highlights. Take a boat tour along the Indian River, a serene waterway enveloped by mangroves, where you can spot exotic birds and even bear witness to the river's night-time luminescence. Interact with the local community by joining a cultural tour, where you can learn traditional fishing, cooking, and handicraft-making from the friendly locals.
Money and Shopping:
The currency in Dominica is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD), and most establishments accept major credit cards. However, it's advisable to carry some cash, especially when visiting more remote areas. Shopping in Portsmouth offers the chance to support local artisans and bring home distinctive souvenirs. Prowl through the bustling markets, where you'll find handmade crafts, colorful batik fabrics, and aromatic spices that will propel you back to the island long after your journey has ended.
Nightlife and Transport:
After sundown, Portsmouth's nightlife awakens with dynamic energy and infectious rhythms. Dance till dawn at local bars and clubs, grooving to the pulsating beats of reggae, soca, and calypso tunes. Taxis and minibusses are readily available for transportation within the city, but for the more adventurous souls, renting a bicycle or moped allows for easy exploration of the city's charming streets and picturesque landscapes. As I bid adieu to Portsmouth, a destination that has imprinted its mark on my soul, I am filled with gratitude for the memories created and adventures experienced. This city, with its enthralling culture, gastronomy, and a never-ending array of activities, truly embodies the essence of exploration. RAF Typhoons intercepted 50 Russian aircraft during air policing mission in Estonia
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 12/08/2023 - 13:47in Interceptions, Military
The United Kingdom has been leading NATO's air policing mission in Estonia for the past four months, demonstrating the United Kingdom's commitment to the Alliance and security in Europe.
The British Royal Air Force personnel returned to the United Kingdom after leading NATO's Baltic air policing mission in Estonia for four months, during which pilots intercepted 50 Russian aircraft and flew for a combined total of more than 500 hours.
Tumblr media
Members of the 140ª Expeditionary Air Wing (140 EAW) have been deployed to Ämari Air Base since early March, along with a squadron of RAF Typhoon fighters, to carry out Rapid Reaction Alert (QRA) interceptions of Russian aircraft in transit near NATO airspace.
PLEASE TAP RELOAD TO VIEW VIDEO👇
Tumblr media
The Typhoon jets and their pilots of squadrons IX (Bombardes) and 1 (Huntings) were deployed in Estonia from the Lossiemouth RAF Base, where most of the 140 EAW employees have already returned.
The deployment, called Op Azotize, began with RAF pilots flying on missions alongside the German Air Force - during which the first joint air interception between NATO allies took place, when British and German Typhoons pursued a Russian air-to-air refueling aircraft and transport aircraft.
Tumblr media
140EAW personnel were called at one point to intercept Russian aircraft that did not make contact with NATO-controlled regional air traffic agencies and did not file flight plans, thus failing to adhere to international standards. This, in turn, creates a flight safety risk that must be investigated and monitored by NATO aircraft to ensure the safety of all air traffic in the region.
After assuming the full leadership of the air policing mission, the RAF Typhoons carried out QRA interceptions regularly - including a 21-day period in which Russian fighters, long-range bombers and reconnaissance aircraft were intercepted 21 times.
Tumblr media
During the deployment, the operations took place in coordination with the Portuguese and Romanian Air Forces, which jointly led the NATO air policing mission in Lithuania.
Tumblr media
While deployed in Estonia, the RAF also participated in several important exercises with NATO allies, including Exercise Air Defender, the largest NATO air deployment exercise since the end of the Cold War, with more than 250 aircraft and 10,000 people participating from 25 nations. The RAF's contribution to the exercise combined Typhoons of 140 EAW based in Estonia and 903 EAW based in Cyprus, and included F-35, Voyager and A400M aircraft flying from the United Kingdom.
The RAF 140EAW Typhoons conducted several exercises with the newest NATO member, Finland, including joint training in the Arctic Circle, as well as with the future member of the Alliance, Sweden. These exercises ensure the strength and unity of the alliance, as well as deter and defend against threats to NATO security.

NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission was established at Amari Base in Estonia and at Siauliai Air Base in Lithuania in 2014, after the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia. The allies who contribute to the mission are deployed to air bases in Eastern Europe on a four-month rotation basis, providing protection and security to all NATO members, as well as partner nations.
Tumblr media
The UK's defense commitment to Estonia will continue through Op Cabrit, with more than 1,000 British Army soldiers currently stationed at the Tapa Army Base to form the UK's contribution to NATO's advanced presence along its eastern border with Russia.
