Dustin and Steve exchange a look, equally shocked by what they’re hearing.

Eddie and Dustin come back an hour later, carrying everything they need. 

Dustin dumps his bags on the counter and immediately tries to retreat to the living room but Eddie moves faster. He grabs onto the handle of his backpack, pulling him to an abrupt stop, Dustin’s limbs flailing like a puppet on strings. 

“Where do you think you’re going?” He asks, tugging Henderson back into the kitchen. “I told you, it’s your pie so you’re helping.”

“Yeah, well. Your mom is a saint, I’m not,” he says, letting him go once Dustin stops struggling and handing him a whisk and a list of ingredients for him to mix. 

Begrudgingly, Dustin accepts them and sets off to work on making the filling while Eddie and Steve work on the crust. 

Steve has to focus really hard on following Eddie’s instructions correctly. Not because the instructions are particularly complicated or anything, mostly it’s just ‘add this’ or ‘measure that’ or ‘hand me those’. “Well, the filling is ready and we have to leave these babies in the fridge for two hours,” he says, holding up one of the dough balls. “So I sent him to pick a movie for us to watch in the meantime.”

“Oh, okay,” Steve says, wondering how he could’ve been so deep in thought that he missed all of that happening. He grabs one of the dough balls while Eddie grabs the other one, following him to the fridge. “Do we need this much pie crust?” He asks as Eddie opens the door. 

“I thought we could make two pies so I doubled the recipe. Henderson can take one and we can have the other,” Eddie says, sticking the dough in the fridge. “That way you can try it and I can take some back to Wayne. I don’t think we’ve had any homemade pumpkin pie since my mom died.”

Steve hums. “Is this her recipe?”

The smile Eddie gives Steve over his shoulder is a little sad. “Yeah, she taught me how to make it years ago.”

“I can’t wait to try it,” Steve says softly, knocking their shoulders together. 

Eddie spins on his heels, leaning back against the fridge. “I just hope I didn’t fuck it up, it’s been a while,” he chuckles, hanging a hand from his neck. 

Steve shrugs. “You can always blame me. Or Dustin.”

Eddie throws his head back, laughing. There’s a streak of flour on his neck and Steve has to fight the urge to clean it up with his tongue. “Nah, Stevie, you two are doing a great job,” Eddie says with a dimpled grin, “even the kid with his fucking attitude.”

Steve huffs, rolling his eyes. “Right? You’d think he’s doing us a favor.”

“Entitled little shit,” Eddie mutters, but the corners of his mouth tick up.

From the living room, Dustin yells at them, his voice dripping with annoyance. “You guys are gonna watch the movie or what?” 

Steve and Eddie share a look and start laughing.

Two hours later the two of them are back in the kitchen, rolling out the pie crust. 

Or at least, Eddie is. Steve keeps messing it up.

Dustin gives them an innocent look, eyes wide like he’s never done anything wrong in his life. “But you're doing such a great job, Eddie.”

He doesn’t wait for Eddie to tell him twice, hurtling towards the living room. Steve watches in silence as Eddie carefully places the pie crust on the pan and pours the filling Dustin made.

“Now we wait?” Steve asks once both pies are inside the preheated oven.

Stepping out to wash your hands, you hear the door open and see an old lady with a cane walk in. She smiles at you kindly and you smile back before she goes into a stall. You want to ask for help, but she’s so old you’re scared she wouldn’t understand.

You dry your hands as the bathroom door opens again and as it lingers open, you can hear so many voices talking. You wonder what’s going on as you leave the bathroom.

Opening the door, you’re surrounded by a sea of older people waiting to go in. They just got off a bus for a rest break. You look over at König and see him a little bit away from you as the rude older people push their way past him. His eyes on you like a hawk. You stand there for a while, between the door to freedom, and going back to König. You could ask for help here, but what if he really kills all these innocent people?

König is currently cut off by at least 5 people, meaning he would have to go around then to hurry to you. You saw buildings on your way here, so you could possibly just run until you reach safety. Run and lose him so you can safely call for help.

This feels like it’s been an hour of thinking when really only five seconds pass. Looking at König still, you turn and run. The fastest you’ve ever ran in your life, catching the attention of everyone, not just König.

Running out of the door and heading towards the road, you just let your fight or flight carry you away.

König’s heart sinks as he sees you do that; you’ve been so well behaved he almost can’t believe you’d do this to him. With no care, he barrels through the line of people and goes out the door after you. Everyone at the stop is confused as they watch two people run in what looks like a chase.

König’s massive body is running after you at full speed, trying to catch up to you quickly before anyone can call for help or you can reach safety.

“MAUS!” He shouts after you.

You can hear his booming voice as you run, you don’t stop. You know if you do, he will catch you. There is no telling what an angry König would do. Tears begin to stream down your face as you run, your heart beat pounding in your ears. A little voice telling you to just keep going, don’t stop.

Springs with Shouto are sweet, like the tender caress of his hands. Greeting him at the train station with a soft peck on his cheek and walking to school under a canopy of fresh, pink flowers. The sakura trees sway in the wind while you and him walk hand in hand, the soft yet chilly breeze a remnant of winter. Springs with Shouto include walking through lush tulip fields with every color, picnic dates at the local park, and spending the entire Sunday at Disney Land. Plucking cherry blossom petals from each other’s hair and taking selfies together with Mount Fuji in the distance. A lingering kiss pressed to the back of your hand, voluntarily tying your shoelace, holding your shopping bags.

Summers with Shouto are sparkly, like bold and beautiful fireworks at the summer festivals. Wearing matching yukatas and dancing with sparklers in each hand. Late-night cramming for tomorrow’s exam–a cool hand resting on your forehead and the other holding a box of strawberry milk. Summers with Shouto include ice cream dates (he’s memorized your order), making silly paintings afterschool underneath the oak tree on campus, and picking strawberries for both of you to eat back at the dorms. Making quick midnight runs to the conbini across the street to buy the last of the cold soba and pudding and peppering his face with kisses. Watching his face erupt into a big, beautiful smile, a smile that is only reserved for you (you don’t know that, though).

Summers with Shouto are sparkly, just like his smile.

Autumns with Shouto are adorable, like the orange cat that you saw at the park. Wrapping his warm, maroon scarf around your neck gently, scolding you for not bringing one yourself (he’s very happy that you like it and loves that you are wearing it. Besides, he can never stay mad at his angel forever). Holding hands while walking through the colorful maple trees, all adorned in red, orange, and yellow. Baking cookies and teaching him how to make cinnamon rolls while your friends and classmates take pictures of the two of you “hogging” the kitchen. Autumns with Shouto include dressing up as vampires for the Halloween party and leaving a bold, red kiss mark on his cheek with your scarlet lipstick (he likes it, despite all of the teasing). Movie dates in your dorm room, his head tucked in the crook of your neck, his eyes wandering to your focused face as you watch the movie (you catch him staring and think that he is the cutest).

Winters with Shouto are warm, like the heat of the fireplace in your home. Not wanting to leave Shouto alone in the dorms, you invited him to come home with you. Freshly made roasted turkey is on the dining table, the smell of kona coffee cake in the oven drifting in the air. Your family is welcoming and jolly: they cleaned the house (a miracle), your siblings didn’t bicker, and most of all, they welcomed Shouto with big smiles and open arms. The living room looks cozy due to the Christmas lights on the tree and the vibrant fire. Your home is cozy and feels like a home. Shouto supposes that this must be what a functional household’s home is like.

But where is his home? For Shouto, home isn’t the building, it isn’t where he grew up, it isn’t where he currently resides in. Home is where he feels love, comfort, joy, peace. Home for Shouto is where he feels warm. Home for Shouto is you.

Winters with Shouto are warm, and Shouto thinks that winters with you are warm, too. 

And when you both are feeling extra cold, you’ll sneak upstairs to your childhood bedroom. The smell of nostalgia hits your nose as you turn on the fairy lights to add to the homey atmosphere. The both of you will tuck in close and look out the window, admiring the soft snow falling from the sky. At 00:00 am, he’ll press his lips on yours and quietly whisper:

“Merry Christmas, my love and home.”

ellie pees EVERYWHERE for sport, the little freak. her aim is amazing. maybe everyone COULD enjoy a nice day at the park if ellie and abby can ever get out of the house on time. (and abby is never late, it’s always ellie distracting her and making her late.) abby hates rollercoasters ofcourseeee so ellie teases her about all the alone time you guys get. abby’s great at the carnival games though! and she loves the little tea cup rides she thinks those are fun. ellie complains after 15 minutes of walking and she’s also never properly prepared. buys a bunch of dumb t shirts for shits and giggles. loves a good souvenir. abby eats those big turkey legs all by herself! (let’s u get a bite if u ask, will pull off the tiniest piece for ellie tho) + ellie leads you all around the park! she’s great at directions! they both also get into arguments with people they catch checking u out. got that “i’m gonna gouge your eyes out” look. honestly pretty terrifying especially since it’s hot as hell and they’re both red as fuck.
