TO PAY FOR TRUMPS TRILLIONS IN TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH.
"Oz will succeed Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, the current administrator of CMS, to lead programs including Medicare, the federal health insurance program for people aged 65 or older, and disabled people, and Medicaid, the state-based health insurance program for lower-income people, which is jointly funded by states and the federal government. The two programs provide health insurance for more than 140 million Americans.
Also in the CMS fold are the Children’s Health Insurance Program (Chip) and the Health Insurance Marketplace, which was created by the Affordable Care Act under Barack Obama in 2010.
Trump’s economic advisers and congressional Republicans are currently discussing possible cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, and other government welfare programs to cover the costs of extending the president-elect’s multi-trillion-dollar 2017 tax cut."
Dr Oz, best known for his daytime talkshow, leaned heavily into Trumpism during his failed 2022 run for US Senate. Donald Trump has chosen Mehmet Oz, best known for starring in his eponymous daytime talkshow for more than a decade and leaning heavily into Trumpism during his failed 2022 run for a Pennsylvania Senate seat, to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The cardiothoracic surgeon, who faced immense backlash from the medical and scientific communities for pushing misinformation at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, will oversee the agency that operates on a $2.6 trillion dollar annual budget and provides healthcare to more than 100 million people.
“I am honored to be nominated by [Donald Trump] to lead CMS,” Oz posted on X on Tuesday. “I look forward to serving my country to Make America Healthy Again under the leadership of HHS Secretary [Robert F Kennedy Jr].”
In the announcement of Oz’s selection, Trump said that Oz would “make America healthy again” and described him as “an eminent Physician, Heart Surgeon, Inventor, and World-Class Communicator, who has been at the forefront of healthy living for decades”.
Oz has been on US television screens for nearly 20 years, first appearing on the Oprah Winfrey show in 2004. In that time, he has talked to his audience about losing weight with fad diets and what it takes to have healthy poops and, toward the end of his run, touting hydroxychloroquine as a potential remedy for Covid-19.
Here’s what to know about the New York University professor and surgeon turned television show host, and now Trump appointee.
Mehmet Oz, 64, is a Turkish American Ohio native best known for The Dr Oz Show, which ran from 2009 to 2022. His father was a surgeon in Turkey, and after Oz graduated high school in Delaware, he was admitted into Harvard. He also served in the Turkish military in order to maintain dual citizenship, the Associated Press reports.
Before entering US homes via daytime TV, he had more than 20 years of experience as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Presbyterian-Columbia medical center in New York. He was also a professor at Columbia University’s medical school.
His bona fides at the prestigious institutions earned him quick credibility with viewers, and his popularity garnered him nine Daytime Emmy awards for outstanding informative talkshow and host.
Though his show ended in 2022, Oz maintains a YouTube channel filled with old episodes of his shows where he interviews guests such as Penn Jillette about his weight loss and Robert F Kennedy Jr about his 2014 book about the presence of mercury in vaccines. He also has an Instagram account that boasts more than a million followers, where Oz shares photos of his family and sells products from iHerb, an online health and wellness brand for which he is global adviser.
Oz’s questionable medical advice and time in politics. Throughout his TV tenure, Oz dabbled in the hallmarks of weight loss culture like detoxes, cleanses and diets that promised rapid weight loss. He also faced a grilling by senators in 2014 over claims he made and alleged false advertising on supplements he promoted on his show. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Oz regurgitated misinformation that came from the fringes of the right and medical communities.
These comments continued when he threw his hat into the race to represent Pennsylvania in the US Senate in 2022 against John Fetterman. At the time, the Guardian wrote:
“Oz was dogged by questions about his actual connection to the state during the campaign. Oz lived in New Jersey for decades before he moved to Pennsylvania in October 2020, into a home owned by his wife’s family. He announced his bid to be the state’s US senator just months later.”
Following Fetterman’s stroke, during which he said he “almost died”, the Oz campaign launched unsavory attacks against him, with one Oz aide, Rachel Tripp, claiming Fetterman might not have had a stroke if he “had ever eaten a vegetable in his life”.
Oz ultimately lost to Fetterman, who garnered 51% of the vote compared with Oz’s 46%."

so the incoming Dutch government has (among others)
a prime minister who is not a member of a political party but basically just someone who knows the right people to get him a nice job, former head of immigration and naturalisation services
a health minister/deputy PM who used to be a member of a white power/neo nazi forum and strongly opposes late term abortion.
a minister in charge of trade and international aid (as in aid sent to other countries from the Netherlands) who wanted to cut that aid significantly or even get rid of it altogether to pay for a hair brained plan to lower health insurance costs here a few years ago, who is (or was i'm not entirely sure) a board member for an even more racist and unhinged Dutch version of fox news, believes in some ass backwards conspiracy theory that the "elite" are trying to "replace" the population with non white/non western (Jewish!) people but claims that is not nazi rhetoric but a "factual description of a demographic development" , pro zwarte piet (loooong story but basically she's pro blackface)
a minister of immigration who also believes in the replacement conspiracy theory, is also racist, has referred to Islam as despicable. She's been called out on spouting nazi bullshit and just went "it's possible it's a nazi thing, I don't know, I don't really care/think about that"
a speaker of the house who also believes in the replace conspiracy theory and has mentioned it several times as an mp. He also complained about being sick of talks about slavery when there was a discussion on whether or not the (then) prime minister and the king should officially apologise for the Dutch slavery history. July 1st is Keti koti in the Netherlands - which celebrates the end of slavery and remembers those who lost their lives during it (kind of like Juneteenth in the US) and there is an 'official' celebration/memorial service in Amsterdam where normally at least some politicians would show their face and speak. The organisation has said they don't want Bosman (that's his name) there because he's a racist asshole. He's planning to go anyway.
an MP who blatantly denies there is famine in Gaza and says 2000 aid trucks enter the Gaza strip every week.
the leader of that ^ gang who is bffs with Viktor Orbán (Hungarian PM) and the American republicans (that should tell you enough), who was going to make sure there would be 'less Moroccans' in The Hague after winning local elections there, has insulted Islam on various occasions throughout the past 20 or so years, and wants to ban people from having dual citizenship except that one guy in his own party he kinda forgot about
The daughter of an immigrant who opposes immigration and wants to stop people from bringing their family here when they've officially been told they can stay. The EXACT same law that allowed her father to bring her and her mother and siblings here after he left Turkey when she was a kid. She also claims hundreds of thousands of people do this every year - which is bullshit, but she 'didn't do it on purpose' so it's ok.
a minister of housing who actively opposed building plans in her city. And also who nobody takes seriously because she got kicked out of her old party for openly criticising their covid policies during lockdown. Comedians love her because she says stupid shit all the time that they can use to make fun of her.
the leader of the farmers party who can't do maths, won't let anyone run the numbers on her party's plans because it's "not important what things cost or how they'd be paid for"
So yeah - the country is going to shit!
#the netherlands#dutch politics#dutchblr#nederblr#nederland#i just had to get it out#but god it's depressing when you write it all down like this

One thing that people don't seem to talk about a lot, even the people who recognize that passport privilege is real and has consequences not just on leisure activities but job opportunities and progression, is how tiring it all is. How every effort at travel emphasizes other, pre-existing, inequalities and inequities, including gender, but especially intersectional inequalities.
I currently have a visa for a country that in itself, isn't very useful (I can visit my siblings, yay! but I can't visit most of my friends, major boo). But this one visa has facilitated my ability to go to a reunion in Turkey, to a professional conference that's being hosted in Morocco in the fall, and will allow me to go to friends' weddings in Mexico (...the flight times and costs from South Asia to Mexico are a different matter!). I received my Turkish visa in under 5 hours and the Moroccan one in 10, both online. I didn’t have to hire an agent, go through a company, coordinate post or travel to the embassy in india.
My colleague is 6 or 7 years younger than me, in her late 20s. She went to university in India and came back a few years ago after finishing. She’s been working since, more or less, while doing a secondary degree in law. She is meant to go to the same conference. She doesn't have any other visas in her passport, and either way, the burden for approval of these visas is significant, which is probably why some countries decide to just accept them as a shorthand for what is ultimately a financial review process. Morocco, like many countries, doesn't have an embassy in Nepal, and consular services are in India. In order to even apply for the visa, she was informed by the consulate (unclear if this was in Nepal or India) that she'd need a no-objection certificate...from her father. Who lives in a completely different part of the country, but could just as easily live in another country, or not himself exist, or be literate.
My colleague is nearly 30. This should be more than enough to indicate her independence, autonomy, and authority to make decisions for herself. If the concern is about her "vulnerability" to exploitation - for which there are few foolproof methods, and certainly not in a State that literally profits off the exploitation and labor of people working abroad, at every stage of their decision to leave, and as the pig butchering schemes in China and Myanmar at present demonstrate - she has a Bachelor's and at least one (if not two) Masters degrees. (Again, not foolproof, but still - nothing is.)
Nepal has a new process whereby we have to get national ID cards (in addition to citizenship cards). In order to apply for this ID, you need a reference from your local government office, as well as various other pieces of paperwork. Among these pieces of paperwork and references is a certificate proving that you are not married.
A certificate proving that you are not married.
The absurdity and sexism of this state. Truly a thing to behold.

Navigating the Turkish E-Visa: Your Comprehensive Guide to the Electronic Visa Turkey
Turkey, with its rich tapestry of history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culture, has become a coveted destination for travelers worldwide. In an effort to streamline the process of visiting this magnificent country, Turkey introduced the electronic visa (e-visa) system, a convenient alternative to traditional visa applications. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about obtaining an electronic visa turkey for Turkey and the steps involved in completing the Turkish online form.
What is the Turkish Electronic Visa?
The Turkish electronic visa, commonly known as the e-visa, is an official document permitting entry into Turkey. It is designed for tourists and business travelers, allowing for a smoother and faster application process compared to the traditional visa obtained through consulates or embassies. The e-visa is available online, eliminating the need for physical paperwork and in-person visits to diplomatic missions.
Who Needs a Turkish E-Visa?
Citizens from various countries need a visa to enter Turkey, and the e-visa is an efficient option for many of them. The eligibility for an e-visa depends on the traveler's nationality, intended length of stay, and purpose of visit. The e-visa is typically issued for short-term stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period and is suitable for purposes such as tourism, business trips, and family visits.
It is important to check if your country is eligible for the e-visa or if you need to apply through the traditional visa process. Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides a comprehensive list of eligible countries and their specific requirements on their official website.
Benefits of the Turkish E-Visa
Convenience: The e-visa application process is entirely online, making it accessible from anywhere in the world. This eliminates the need for appointments and lengthy queues at embassies or consulates.
Time-Saving: The e-visa can be processed quickly, often within minutes or hours, compared to the potentially weeks-long traditional visa process.
Cost-Effective: The e-visa generally has lower fees compared to traditional visas, making it a cost-effective option for travelers.
Ease of Access: Once approved, the e-visa is sent electronically, and travelers can print it or save it on their mobile devices for convenience.
How to Apply for a Turkish E-Visa
Step 1: Access the Official E-Visa Website
The first step in obtaining your Turkish e-visa is to visit the official e-visa website www.evisa.gov.tr. It is crucial to use the official site to avoid potential scams and ensure your personal information is secure.
Step 2: Fill Out the Turkish Online Form
The application process involves filling out the Turkish online form. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Select Your Country and Travel Document: Choose your country of citizenship and the type of travel document you possess.
Select Your Arrival Date: The e-visa is valid for entry on or after the date you specify, so choose an arrival date that aligns with your travel plans.
Enter Personal Information: Provide details such as your full name, date of birth, passport information, and contact details. Ensure that all information matches your passport to avoid delays or rejections.
Answer Security Questions: You will be required to answer some basic security questions related to your travel history and purpose of visit.
Review and Confirm: Double-check all the information you’ve entered. Errors can lead to delays or denials, so accuracy is paramount.
Step 3: Pay the Visa Fee
After completing the Turkish online form, you’ll need to pay the visa fee using a credit or debit card. The fee varies depending on your nationality and the type of visa you’re applying for.
Step 4: Download and Print Your E-Visa
Once your application is approved, you’ll receive your e-visa via email. You should print a copy of the e-visa to carry with you, as you may be required to present it upon arrival in Turkey. It’s also a good idea to save a digital copy on your mobile device for easy access.
Important Tips for a Smooth E-Visa Application
Apply in Advance: While the e-visa can be processed quickly, it’s advisable to apply at least a few days before your planned travel date to account for any unforeseen issues.
Ensure Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Turkey. Check the expiration date before applying.
Keep Copies of All Documents: Always keep copies of your e-visa and other travel documents, both in print and digital formats, for easy access during your trip.
Check for Updates: Visa regulations and policies can change. Regularly check the official e-visa website for the latest information and requirements.
Conclusion
The Turkish electronic visa system offers a modern, efficient, and user-friendly way to obtain travel authorization for visiting Turkey. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can ensure a smooth and hassle-free application process. Whether you’re drawn to Turkey’s ancient ruins, bustling bazaars, or scenic landscapes, the e-visa makes your journey to this fascinating country easier than ever. Safe travels and enjoy your adventure in Turkey!

Turkey Visa for Australian Citizens
Turkey, a nation that connects Europe and Asia, is a well-liked vacation destination for both leisure and business travellers. Many people consider it to be a must-visit location because of its fascinating history, breathtaking scenery, and mouthwatering cuisine. However, it's crucial to comprehend the Australian visa requirements before making travel plans to Turkey. This post will discuss the many Turkish visa categories that Australian citizens can apply for, as well as the qualifications and application procedure.
Do Australians Require a Visa for Turkey?
Different visa policies have been established by the Turkish government for holders of different nationalities. Sadly, Australian citizens are not eligible for the visa exemption for Turkey. Therefore, they need to get a valid visa before visiting Turkey. Nonetheless, Australians can quickly and easily apply online for an e-Visa. Australians can go to Turkey for up to 90 days during a 180-day period and remain there for business or tourism with an e-Visa.
Traveller electronic visa
You must apply for a tourist e-visa if you intend to travel to Turkey for a vacation or leisure trip. This kind of visa only permits one entry into the nation during its ninety-day validity period. The 180-day validity of a Turkish tourist visa allows visitors to see the nation's well-known sites, including the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the historic city of Ephesus, and the stunning beaches along the Aegean and Mediterranean shores.
Business e-Visa
You will need to apply for a business e-visa if you are visiting Turkey on business. In addition, holders of this travel document are allowed to remain in the nation for ninety straight days during a 180-day period. You can go to Turkey for meetings, conferences, and other business-related events if you have a business e-visa. In addition, individuals who want to study, work, or conduct research in Turkey are eligible for the business e-visa.
Turkey Visa Requirements
Australian nationals must meet certain requirements before applying for a visa to enter Turkey. Generally, the kind of visa and the application determine the requirements for a Turkey visa. To apply for a Turkey e-visa, applicants must provide three essential documents:
A valid Australian passport is one that has two blank pages and at least six months left on it.
Email address: You must supply a current, working email address in order to submit your application and obtain a travel document.
Method of Payment: In order to obtain a visa, applicants must pay both the service fees and the embassy fee. Since the application process is online, you can pay online with a debit card, credit card, and PayPal account.
The bare minimum of paperwork needed to apply for an e-visa for Turkey are these documents. In addition to this, you might require the following:
An electronic passport photo
Evidence of lodging, like a hotel reservation or an invitation from a Turkish host
Evidence of insurance coverage for travel
Evidence that you have the money to pay for your stay in Turkey
A ticket for a flight back or forward
It is crucial to remember that the prerequisites could change based on the kind of visa you are applying for, so it is recommended to check the official website for the most recent details.
How Can an Australian Apply for a Visa to Turkey?
You can apply for this travel document from the comfort of your home if you meet the requirements and are qualified for an electronic visa to Turkey. The process of applying for an e-visa is much simpler than it is for a standard visa.
All you have to do to obtain your Turkey visa is:
Go to VisaHQ, choose a visa category, your citizenship, and your destination.
Complete the online application, making sure to include all necessary paperwork and information. Your passport details, travel schedule, and personal information will be required.
Make an online payment to cover the cost of the visa and fill out the application for a visa to Turkey and attach any necessary paperwork.
Your e-visa application will then be processed by the Turkish embassy, which will verify its legitimacy. Your application will be processed and an e-visa will be sent to you via email. When visiting Turkey, you will need to print the e-visa and show it at the border.
Time Spent Processing
An e-visa for Turkey typically takes 24 hours to process. To guarantee you receive your visa in time for your trip, it's advisable to apply well in advance of when you intend to travel, as the processing time may vary according to the season.
Furthermore, the embassy will probably postpone or refuse your visa application if your Turkey visa application has any errors or mistakes. As such, it is advised that you verify the information you have provided before submitting your application.
