not to have an "omg you people can't do anything" moment, but deciding which toothbrush to buy legitimately had me stuck in the aisle for like 7 minutes. shitty 99 cent plastic toothbrush? $20 dollar electric toothbrush with each individual replacement head costing another $10? $7 "sustainable" bamboo toothbrush? i feel like im in hell, and this has radicalized me

AITA for kicking my boyfriend out because he keeps using my toothbrush?
🪥 (to find later)
I (25)F share an apartment with my boyfriend (23)M. my boyfriend is the crazy environmentalist type (he insists on only buying secondhand clothes, he times both of our showers and gets mad if I go over the limit, he only takes the bus or rides his bike even though it takes SO much longer and his parents offered to buy him a car and they can totally afford it. I’ve tried to convince him to tone it all done multiple times but he refuses to budge and I just put up with it because other than that he’s a pretty good guy and we have a lot of mutual friends). Recently he’s decided that toothbrushes- of all things- are super unsustainable and he wants to share one. I think this is disgusting and I’ve told him that, but he keeps using mine. On top of that he brushes his teeth really hard and it ruins the bristles which means I have to go buy more toothbrushes which upsets him even more. I even bought him some fancy “sustainable” bamboo toothbrushes in an attempt to compromise but he wont touch them. A couple nights ago I went to go brush my teeth after a having a really long day and I found MY toothbrush super frayed and lying on the gross counter even though we have one of those toothbrush holders on the mirror. I’m ashamed to admit that I completely lost it and starting yelling about how that this was the last straw and I was tired of his “environmentalist bullshit” and that I wanted him out of the apartment immediately. Long story short he packed up most of his stuff and left to go stay with his parents (which I find super satisfying because he’s mentioned multiple times how he thinks its embarrassing that his 19 year old brother still lives at home). I blocked him on everything and then yesterday he came to the door banging and yelling about “wanting his lizard back” (which he apparently forgot when he left). For context: It was his lizard when we moved in but I’ve ended up doing all the work (cleaning the cage, feeding it, replacing broken heat lamps, etc) because he always claims he’s “too busy” to do it. So I told him I’m keeping the lizard because I know he’ll take terrible care of it anyways.
I was talking to one of our mutual friends afterwards (who apparently talked to him first) and she thinks that I’m being unreasonable. So, am I the asshole?

Becoming sustainable is a journey that takes a long time. You can not and will not change your lifestyle to fully sustainable in a month. Changing your entire lifestyle in a way that directly clashes with how society is currently functioning (consumerism/capitalism) is not as easy as the tiktokers doing partnerships with bamboo toothbrushes make you believe.
Start small. Repurpose things you already have, even if they aren’t recyclable. Scrape the last of your moisturizer into a tub if it won’t come out the bottle any more. Use the cut open bottle as a pin holder. Use old dvd cases as letter storage, for arts and crafts, to protect your post. Donate things you can’t reuse to your local charity shops or shelters.
You’re also inherently going to have to learn new skills. Learning to stitch clothing to repair clothes, and learning how to sew to re-use clothes that can’t be salvaged. Learning some basic carpentry and upholstery skills for furniture, learning how to compost properly, learning to cook in unusual ways like canning and bulk cooking, gardening and farming. You’ll need to learn how to navigate shopping sustainably by researching the brands you consume, the shops you buy at, the local economy.
There's also the emotional toll of it. Learning new skills and leading a sustainable lifestyle will be very rewarding and fulfilling, but the journey there will be difficult. Researching it all will likely depress you, you’ll come across how shit nestle is, how deep-rooted consumerism is, how it impacts the ocean and humanity. You’ll find there's almost nothing, no brand, no item, no store that hasn’t been touched by consumerism and problematic practices, and it will get absolutely exhausting. You’ll find YouTubers and bloggers who have been doing this longer than you and finally help you navigate everything, and then they’re a terf. It’s going to be a challenging journey.
You will also realize becoming fully 100% sustainable is impossible to you and gated to rich people. You will need to accept this. Not everyone has access to local shops that provide sustainable items, and online shipping itself is usually not eco-friendly. Having a pet might be a roadblock, unless you can build your own house it's probably not built sustainably, if you live with family or roommates they might dampen your lifestyle. You’ll learn that being sustainable isn’t going the whole solution to saving the planet. You cannot strive for perfection here, you can only make an effort.
But making the effort is the point. Living sustainably makes you part of a positive cycle that supports local businesses, promotes a healthier and more fulfilling life, helps your local ecosystem and community. That makes the effort worth it.

Sustainable Hygiene
Tumblr media
After I did a project on the influence of fashion on the environment I was completely blown away with the incredible amount of waste consumerism creates. (Obviously this is in no way trying to pressure anyone into buying sustainable products, especially because their much more expensive that average ones, this is just a little guide if you would like to try it out.)
Here are some sustainable alternatives to many hygiene products-
-Makeup Removing Cloths -Refillable Deodorant -Bamboo Toilet Paper -Bamboo Toothbrushes -Bar Soaps -Shampoo Bars -Conditioner Bars -Bamboo Brushes (-And other biodegradable items)
Tumblr media
Of course, before you purchase any products, remember to do your research!
Have a great day~

I’m sure you get a lot of asks, and it’s understandable considering how great you ladies are! I recently read your sustainability swap post (I loved it!) and I wanted to recommend something I didn’t see on there that’s incredibly important to me.
Swap out tampons and disposable pads for menstrual cups and cloth pads!! It’s an adjustment for sure (esp the menstrual cups) but it’s so good for the environment, your health, and frankly your wallet. I made the swap to a menstrual cup abt 5 years ago and haven’t had to buy tampons (minus a few early cycles until I started carrying cloth pads w me) since — and I’ve had the same cup and it’s still working great!
When it comes to the cups ItsJustKelli on YouTube has a great playlist where she reviews multiple diff products to make choosing easier (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVehiHoQpDmAQwa9UrHXF9IBzHp3cUenE). It might take some trial and error, but it is well worth the switch, considering your average cup costs abt $35 and (if taken care of) can last at least 5 years. And as far as cleaning it you really only need Castile soap, a repurposed toothbrush, hot water and a decent stainless steel pot to sterilize it in (any company you buy from has a How-To page on the cleaning aspect. They will try to sell their Special Soaps DONT LISTEN ITS A SCAM! Just buy Castile soap and toothbrush same end result!)
As for the cloth pads, there are so many websites for them, and most offer starting kits. They cost more than your average box of disposables, but rather than lasting you a few cycles they’ll last you YEARS. This website https://menstrualcupreviews.net/reusable-menstrual-cloth-pads/ has a list of them. The only brand I can recommend I got off Amazon (guilty as charged) and are great for getting started. (wegreeco Bamboo Charcoal - Reusable Sanitary Pads | Panty Liners | Soft Cloth Menstrual Pads - 6 Pack with 1 Cloth Mini Wet Bag (Medium, Luxury ) https://a.co/d/cTf4mfF)
Ultimately, when I was considering switching I weighed the pros: 1. Save money long term, 2. No longer contribute to the growing pile of blood-soaked, chemical-ridden used tampons and pads clogging landfills, 3. No longer run the risk of introducing toxic chemicals to my body via products made by companies that don’t care abt consumer health; and the cons: 1. More money upfront (which can be circumvented by shopping around and setting aside some money as is feasible), 2. Having to get more comfortable w my body (which ultimately was a positive), 3. The gross factor (downside: yeah you’ll likely see the blood, neutral: it’s your blood tho and you know where it’s coming from; neutral: w the disposable vs. cloth pads the end result isn’t that diff beyond instead of chucking it in the trash you chuck it in the washing machine), and 4. The adjustment of carrying a few cloth pads around (instead of the disposables — not that big of a change).
End note: I did not mean to turn this ask into a novel, but I am just so passionate abt this topic. So many ppl will go into the minutiae of cloth rags and cloth napkins instead of paper towels and paper napkins, the evils of plastic straws, and reusable bags instead of plastic — but not a peep abt the amount of disposable products used for 3-5 days (longer if you’re unlucky like me), every month (or every few depending on birth control, irregular cycles, etc.), every year for decades (think between 3-4 decades depending on start time and menopause) for millions of women worldwide. That’s SO MUCH. And here are two, slightly difficult but worthwhile, choices that can decrease the amount of disposable products clogging up landfills by the thousands long term. As one of the websites I linked says: “The average American woman uses nearly 17,000 tampons in her lifetime — or as many as 24,000 if she undergoes estrogen replacement therapy. And that’s just tampons.”
HELL. FUCKING. YES! Thanks so much for chiming in, baby. We love it when bitchlings share advice with the whole class, so never be afraid to write a long ask with good information.

a collection of eco friendly lifestyle ideas + swaps from various sources around the web:
reusable makeup remover wipes/cotton rounds - i use these and they’re way softer on the skin and bigger so you can use multiple times before washing either in sink or with a laundry load.
cutting products open when they are almost finished - will acc save a lot of money and means that even if buying sustainably is inaccessible to you (valid!) you can make products last for longer
freeze your overripe fruits for smoothies - all tastes the same, means you can make ur own cute lil smoothie mixes and they are often thicker!!
wash dry and reuse plastic bags - they’re almost unavoidable, but you can reuse them easily (i do this for my lunch!)
buy slow fashion - to some this might be too pricey which is totally fine!! but for my uk ppl: run and fly, lucy and yak, and fat face all look rly good and have fun clothing.
eat plant based food - you don’t have to be a vegetarian, you can do meat free monday or just choose the mcplant over a normal burger at maccies! quorn has acc aamzing chicken nuggets and often supermarkets have vegetarian aisles!
support your local farmers market - they often do not wax their apples and you will actually be able to support local businesses instead of big corporations! they also are just fun to go to :)
use a bar dish soap and a bamboo brush
to wash your body, buy bar soap and a net type pouch for it to be able to save it and exfoliate, often less expensive and not packaged in plastic, more scents or you can even make your own!! i’ve heard black african soap is rly good!
use a recycled plastic toothbrush over a normal one - you can use bamboo, but for me bc of sensory issues i can’t, so this is a nice compromise!
use beeswax wraps for food instead of clingfilm - they are more sticky and thick so accessible for people with motor issues (maybe, correct me if i’m wrong but less delicate?) and they have fun patterns and are available from lots of small businesses
instead of liquid hand soap, either use a bar soap or my preference would be a glass pump bottle and tablets that you can dissolve as i find bar soap hard to handle, but bar soap you can keep in tins!
use a reusable water bottle - you can fill them with fizzy drinks or energy drinks, there’s no rules against this!! they keep your drink cold and are sturdier then plastic, and definitely cheaper!! you can also draw on some or stick stickers on to make them more ‘you’!
use cloth napkins and ‘unpaper’ towels instead of rolls of paper towels
buy in bulk
use an ice tray or machine instead of buying big bags from the store - less heavy definitely, and you can add fruits and make ice pops with trays!!
use a refillable or natural deodorant- i use wild (uk ppl!!) and it smells nice, the refills are easy and come in paper and i have a rly cute metal holder!!
you can get reusable cupcake papers - esp for my ppl who like the lick the bottom, they won’t fall apart XD!
use a kindle - reduces the amount of paper books you have to buy, easily transportable, can lend books out to ppl and cheaper books!
bring your own lunch - esp if ur a picky eater like me, i often bring a cheese sandwich and some crisps places so i’m not stuck not eating or choking down food i don’t like and leaving leftovers, also means you can use your own plastic tupperwares instead of store bought single use things lol
grow your own things - i used to grow strawberries as a child and it was surprisingly easily, some ideas are bottle tower gardens and a kitchen herb gardens, you can also grow cat grass and catnip for all my cat parents out there :)
collect rainwater for your plants - just keep a mason jar in your backyard if you have one, or journey out when it’s raining and fill a jar, will last you a bit!!
that’s all i have for now but feel free to add more!!

Tumblr media
Eco-friendly products and practices are those that have a minimal or positive impact on the environment. They help conserve natural resources, reduce waste, prevent pollution, and protect biodiversity. Eco-friendly products and practices are not only good for the planet, but also for your health, well-being, and wallet. By going green, you can improve your quality of life, save money, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
But how can you go green in 2023? What are some of the best eco-friendly products and practices that you can adopt in your daily life? In this blog post, we will share some tips and ideas on how to become more eco-friendly in 2023. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert in green living, there’s something here for you. Let’s get started!
Eco-Friendly Products: What to Buy and What to Avoid
Tumblr media
One of the easiest ways to go green is to choose eco-friendly products over conventional ones. Eco-friendly products are those that are made from natural, organic, recycled, or biodegradable materials. They are also designed to last longer, use less energy, and produce less waste. Eco-friendly products can help you reduce your environmental footprint and save money in the long run.
Here are some examples of eco-friendly products that you can buy in 2023:
Tumblr media
- Reusable bags: Instead of using plastic bags that end up in landfills or oceans, use reusable bags made from cotton, hemp, or bamboo. These bags are durable, washable, and stylish. You can use them for grocery shopping, carrying your lunch, or storing your belongings.
- Reusable water bottles: Instead of buying bottled water that generates plastic waste and greenhouse gas emissions, use reusable water bottles made from stainless steel, glass, or silicone. These bottles are safe, hygienic, and leak-proof. You can fill them with tap water or filtered water and enjoy fresh and clean water anytime, anywhere.
- Reusable straws: Instead of using plastic straws that harm wildlife and pollute the environment, use reusable straws made from metal, silicone, or bamboo. These straws are easy to clean, carry, and use. You can sip your favorite drinks without worrying about ingesting harmful chemicals or hurting the planet.
- Bamboo toothbrushes: Instead of using plastic toothbrushes that take centuries to decompose, use bamboo toothbrushes that are biodegradable and compostable. Bamboo toothbrushes have natural antibacterial properties and soft bristles that are gentle on your teeth and gums. You can also find bamboo toothbrushes with charcoal-infused bristles that help whiten your teeth naturally.
- Organic cotton bedding: Instead of using synthetic bedding that contains harmful chemicals and dyes, use organic cotton bedding that is soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic. Organic cotton bedding is made from cotton that is grown without pesticides or fertilizers. It is also dyed with natural or low-impact dyes that are safe for your skin and the environment.
- LED light bulbs: Instead of using incandescent or fluorescent light bulbs that consume a lot of energy and emit heat and mercury, use LED light bulbs that are energy-efficient and long-lasting. LED light bulbs use up to 80% less energy than conventional light bulbs and last up to 25 times longer. They also produce a bright and natural light that is easy on your eyes.
Tumblr media
These are just some of the eco-friendly products that you can buy in 2023. There are many more options available in the market for every aspect of your life. When buying eco-friendly products,

Can I Put Small Electrical Items In The Recycle Bin Safely?
Many people ask, "Can I put small electrical items in the recycle bin?" Throwing these items in the regular bin can harm the environment. This post explains how to dispose of them safely.
Understanding Small Electrical Items
Small electrical items are gadgets with circuits and batteries. Examples include:
Household appliances: kettles, toasters.
Grooming devices: electric toothbrushes.
Tech items: mobile phones, cameras.
Miscellaneous: lamps, smoke alarms.
Importance of Proper Disposal
Proper disposal is crucial for two main reasons:
Environmental Impact:
E-waste has harmful substances that pollute soil and water. Only one-third of e-waste gets recycled in the UK. Recycling recovers valuable materials like steel from irons.
Safety Concerns:
Improper disposal can cause fires or leak toxic materials into the environment.
How to Safely Recycle
Check Local Authority Guidelines:
Consult your local authority for proper methods.
They collect small electrical goods and provide recycling info on their websites.
Use Designated Recycling Points:
Many councils have drop-off points for electronics.
Use tools like Recycling Locator by entering your postcode online.
Recycle at Retail Locations:
Some retailers accept old electronics when you buy new ones or during delivery.
The Role of the WEEE Directive
The WEEE Directive established rules for recycling old electrical items since 2007. It ensures less waste goes to landfill and sets strict targets for recovering materials.
In conclusion, throwing small electrical items in regular bins is harmful. Follow proper steps for safe disposal... Save our planet!
👉 Visit our article here to learn more about safe e-waste recycling! Share your thoughts below—let's discuss! ♻️🌍

When Is the Best Time to Buy Bathroom Accessories from a Manufacturer?
Tumblr media
This blog outlines the perfect periods for acquiring bathroom items from manufacturers. It draws attention to the very fact that manufacturers introduce new models or collections in time for the seasons or important business occasions. During certain periods, you'll cash in on the most recent ideas and technologies and economize by making direct purchases. Pricing is additionally influenced by supply and demand within the market, with strong demand during refurbishment seasons and holiday seasons translating into higher prices.
Understanding Bathroom Accessories
Accessories like toothbrush holders, soap dispensers, shower curtains, and towel racks improve the usefulness and wonder of a toilet. They increase the general mood and decor in addition to being functional. A toilet could also be made to look coherent and good by choosing the acceptable accessories. Since high-quality accessories are long-lasting and offer a way of elegance, quality and style are essential to restroom aesthetics. While elaborate and decorative items will impart a classic and aristocratic sense, sleek and modern accessories can generate an up-to-date mood. You'll have a toilet that's both aesthetically beautiful and useful by putting quality and style first.
Seasonal Trends in Bathroom Accessories
The marketplace for bathroom accessories is greatly impacted by seasonal sales and promotions when sellers provide discounts and exclusive offers to attract customers. Gaining knowledge about these patterns can assist you in understanding how consumers make purchases. As an example, there is often a spike in demand for beach-themed shower curtains or soap dispensers in the shape of seashells during the summer. Retailers will cash in on seasonal demand by customizing their offers to suit these patterns. Additionally, as individuals often alter their bathroom accessories to suit the changing seasons and holidays, seasonal trends will need an impression on consumer purchasing behavior. Retailers could also employ these trends to develop focused marketing strategies and promotions that will draw customers and increase sales.
Manufacturer Sales Cycles
To optimize profits and sustain a competitive advantage within the marketplace, a Bathroom Accessories Manufacturer often adheres to sales cycles. These cycles include ending a season or financial year with discounts and promotions, as well as having sales events around significant holidays like Cyber Monday and Black Friday. For thrifty consumers, knowing when manufacturers are likely to offer discounts is important. Seasonal changes, big shopping occasions such as the holidays or back-to-school sales, slower sales times, and, therefore, the introduction of a replacement line are a couple of examples. Customers will economize on their purchases and cash in on the best discounts by keeping an eye fixed on these important periods.
Holiday and Event-Driven Purchases
Events and holidays have an enormous influence on consumer purchasing habits. During the vacations, people spend extra cash on decorations and gifts. Manufacturers frequently provide exclusive promotions and discounts in response to the present demand. Sales and discounts are often related to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, as manufacturers vie to supply the best offers. There's also an increase in consumer spending on other holidays, like Mother's Day and Valentine's Day. Consumers will use tactics like pre-planning, researching items on sale around particular holidays, subscribing to newsletters or following manufacturers on social media, and comparing pricing across various merchants and online platforms to take advantage of seasonal bargains. Shoppers will maximize Christmas bargains and economize on their purchases by implementing these techniques.
Economic Factors Affecting Prices
Cost developments, including supply chain problems and inflation, have an enormous impact on prices. Prices rise as a result of rising staple costs caused by inflation. Delays or shortages within the supply chain cause a scarcity of commodities, which raises prices. These elements have a serious impact on the supply and price of products, which affects customer behavior and buying decisions.
The Role of Online Shopping
Online shopping has gained popularity as how to shop for bathroom accessories due to its ease, affordability, and vast selection of possibilities. Price comparison makes it simple for patrons to locate the simplest offers, and Internet merchants frequently provide attractive discounts. Another benefit is that you can buy from home and have things delivered right to your door. When it involves online discounts and promotions, timing is everything since shops frequently run specials like Cyber Monday or Black Friday. Free delivery and other incentives can also improve the cost-effectiveness of internet buying. Overall, internet shopping is a great alternative for obtaining bathroom items.
Evaluating Quality vs. Price
Achieving a balance between cost and quality is crucial when making purchases. Cost establishes affordability, whereas quality guarantees the merchandise lives up to expectations. Consider the manufacturer's warranty or return policy, read customer reviews, compare costs, and investigate the manufacturer's reputation when determining the price of the merchandise. This will assist you in choosing a prudent investment that satisfies your needs and doesn't break the bank. You'll make an informed investment that satisfies your needs without going over budget by taking into consideration both of those aspects.
Timing Your Purchase
Choosing the proper time to shop for bathroom accessories is important to getting the best for your money. To take advantage of deals and discounts, believe in purchasing at particular periods, like Christmas sales, end-of-season clearance, or new model debuts. Plan your purchases in accordance together with your requirements and preferences by creating a customized shopping calendar. Keep an eye fixed on specials and sales to optimize savings without sacrificing quality. Thorough investigation and assessment of the product's worth are necessary to strike the perfect balance between cost and quality. You'll optimize your savings and acquire the best value for your money by making well-informed selections that align together with your requirements and budget.
Conclusion
A well-planned bathroom could also be achieved at an inexpensive cost by timing your purchases of toilet accessories from manufacturers. You'll economize by maintaining new releases, special deals, and industry trends.
