So I've been sick for the last 3 weeks with a cold, and so I've been watching Pokémon Sun and Moon for the first time (like you do) and I have come to the conclusion that Professor Kukui is the kind of Bisexual Guy who was a bit of a slut in his youth, but loves his wife so much that it doesn't even OCCUR to him that all his exes (mostly men) are still in love with him.

They're like "Kukui! My Old friend. It's so good to see you after all this time... how are you? We haven't spoken in so long. What are you doing tonight? Shall we get drinks? And then... maybe something more?" and he's like "Oh yeah that sounds amazing! Can my wife come? She won Alolan woman of the year, don't you know? She's the absolute best you HAVE to meet her!!! You'll LOVE her trust me!"

Like, okay congratulations on winning The Island Challenge by having sex on every beach with a different local or whatever... But maybe you know. Try to be a little less oblivious to everything else around you? Maybe put the tits away out of respect when meeting up?

In honor of pokemon day, I'm doing this ranking. This is a joke meant to be taken semi-seriously. Rated on a scale from 1 to 10, 1 meaning I would be repulsed and 10 meaning I could marry them (platonically)

I mean he seems nice enough? He’s smart, but forgetful, but also a great pokemon battler. He’s also a celebrity which would be annoying if I were to hang out with them. I suppose living in the lab would be fun.

I know he’s clumsy and forgetful, but it’s sort of charming. He’s also more quiet and lowkey compared to the other professors which would be nice. He also has a wife and kid so he’s a good husband and parent, I guess?

Okay, this is the first professor that I actually understand why people find him attractive (no offense to the others, you’re all pretty). I like his relationship with Lysandre, it gives him a bit of sad boy charm. His theme is also the best (again, no offense to the others).

He’s already in a loving relationship with Burnet so he has to be a good husband, not to mention he’s a good father figure (to Lillie in the games and to Ash in the anime). Although I’d imagine he would make a mess with him researching pokemon moves. Him being a strong battler is also fun

Letters From Watson Liveblog - June 2

Wisteria Lodge, Part 4 of 4

Holmes is either paying him a lot of money, or Warner here just really hates his old boss. Either way, he's a real hero for jumping in and saving Miss Burnet, especially since he knows how violent Mr. Henderson can be.

The image of Baynes and Holmes hiding in different forms of foliage at the same time is very funny to imagine. Holmes has really found someone as dedicated as he is to solving a mystery.

A vague Central American dictator! That's certainly an interesting reveal, and it is in line with Doyle's tendency to include what I presume to be international hot topics in his stories.

It also means I was right the first time about this whole case being connected to politics! From Central America of course and not Spain, so I was wrong there, but still.

I'm surprised a dictator cared enough about his children to hire a governess for them. And now those poor kids are probably going to have a terrible life for the foreseeable future, or at least as worse as their life has been so far.

And that explains what happened to Garcia. A terrible, gruesome death at the hands of a terrible, gruesome man.

As a side note, I do wonder what Scott-Eccles thinks of all this, cause there's a lot going on here involving dictators, revolutionaries, subterfuge, etc. that he was dragged into one night.

Also kudos to Miss Durando for fighting back, while drugged, against her captors. This story is full of great people, that I feel like Holmes and Watson were almost inconsequential to the whole thing. Even Warners, whom Holmes asked for help, could easily have been hired by Baynes instead.

Well, it may have taken six months but at least they finally got their comeuppance. No mention of the kids though, which is worrying. A somewhat satisfying conclusion then.

The story did not need this. It could have happily ended with the murder of a dictator and without this extra display of racism at the end. This story has pretty consistently painted people from Central America with such discriminatory descriptions, and it's just awful to see.

This sounds familiar but I forget what it's referring to. Hopefully it's not as racist as Wisteria Lodge was.

see, here's how it goes —

the champion had checked in to see how hau's revovery was going, & discuss any general thoughts he might've had in regards to their upcoming trip — where to first, following a path or just ping - ponging where curiosity leads, any points of interest hau simply needs to see.

conversation strayed every now & then, as is wont to do, but it was productive enough. & lasted long enough satoshi actually needed to cut it short mid - topic lest he be late to dinner. he would've accepted the offer to have it with hau's family, but — he promised burnet he would help.

an apologetic shrug as he heads towards the door, goodbyes said as hau follows to it, an agreement to see each other again sometime later ...

& there's a sudden, rather last - second call of his name just as satoshi has a hand on the handle, & he turns around only to —

& here they are now.

& satoshi's mind has gone in one second from entirely blanking to going into hyperdrive, mental gears whirring like he's been thrust into the middle of battle.

hau. kissing him. why does that evoke déjà vu ?? doesn't matter. ( a cog somewhere notes into awareness with amusement that hau seems to have floated up for this, legs a bit of a state at the moment ) . had this been coming ?? also doesn't matter, not right now, at least. does he mind ?? there's a question. he's never given his friendship with hau too much thought, so he doesn't really know how he feels. there's too much to unpack, especially with this thrown into the mix. he'll have time to think later. what about right now ?? not what he feels — what he is feeling.

& satoshi's mind slows down, returns him to real - time speed, & he relaxes into it, eyelids shutting for just a moment. tilts his head just a fraction enough that tells the other he's not exactly pushing them away.

Texas Independence Day

Texas Independence Day on March 2 commemorates the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence on the same date in 1836. Inhabitants of Texas proclaimed independence from Mexico and established the Republic of Texas with the signing of this declaration by over 59 delegates.

Children’s events, re-enactments, live band music, and cook-offs are all part of the festivities. Storytelling sessions about how Texas gained independence from Mexico and became a republic are among the other activities.

History of Texas Independence Day

A congress of Texians and Tejanos convened at Washington-on-the-Brazos during the Texas Revolution and declared Texas’ independence from Mexico, and they became known as Texans. The delegates elected David Burnet as interim president and confirmed Sam Houston as commander-in-chief of all Texas armies.

In addition, the Texans adopted a constitution that guaranteed the unrestricted practice of slavery, which had previously been banned by Mexican law. In the meantime, in San Antonio, the Alamo was still under siege by Mexican General Antonio de Santa Anna, and the fort’s defenders awaited the last Mexican attack.

Santa Anna ordered his troops to invade the Alamo on March 6. The first and second Mexican charges were defeated by Travis’ artillery, but the Texans were overpowered in less than an hour, and the Alamo was seized. All of the Texan and American defenders were murdered in fierce hand-to-hand combat when Santa Anna instructed that no prisoners should be taken. The Alamo’s only survivors were a small group of civilians, chiefly women and children. During the siege and storming of the Alamo, hundreds of Santa Anna’s soldiers died.

Six weeks later, at San Jacinto, a huge Texan army led by Houston surprised Santa Anna’s forces. The Texans overpowered the Mexicans and took Santa Anna. The dictator was forced to acknowledge Texas’ independence and withdraw his troops south of the Rio Grande. Nine years after the Texas Declaration of Independence was written, the Republic of Texas was annexed to the United States by the collective agreement of the United States Congress.

On December 29, 1845, the United States Congress officially recognized Texas as a member of the Union. Sam Houston Day and Texas Flag Day are also celebrated on March 2, albeit they are not legal holidays.

(In this hc, he goes back to Alola post-word championships. Goh eventually joins, but he needs some time apart to find himself.)

Delia takes the news well, but is a mess. she just wants her baby to be happy and ok, and shes so worried. but once she knows why this is happening, she's a little more relaxed because she knows how she can help now. she works with him, but it takes time for her to adjust. She helps her son anyway she can, and when he's too tired to go out she'll always call him to talk or if she's there with him, make him his favorite meal. (Ash understands why she's worried; it was a shock to her. He's glad that she can learn to work with him on this, and loves it when she notices how hes feeling so quickly, and then tries her best to ease the pain. It reminds him that his mom loves him more than antyhing else in this world.)

Burnet is similar, but off the bat more enthusiastic to helping. she's probably had experience with similar situations (not herself, but others shes met) and is so ready to help her pseudo-son. Whenever she goes shopping and sees a sticker she knows Ash'll like she picks it up, no questions asked. She even gets the others at Aether to help find stickers. (Ash cherishes each sticker he gets from her, and everytime he removes one of her stickers, he saves in a scrapbook. He loves his second mom's stickers so much, but he loves her even more.)

Kukui freaks internally, but keeps a calm composure to not alarm Ash. He's terrified for this boy who's become his son in everything but blood and name. Ash is his first son, and his baby being chronically ill with no way to cure it, it twists his insides up. He was, of course, one of the first people to notice how Ash changes as he finally relaxes. That, luckily, means he had more time to understand- it wasn't a shock to him like it was to Delia. Though, that doesn't mean he isn't worried. He's SO worried. He turns that worry into a drive to help his son. He makes sure Ash has all the ADA and Accommodations he needs. He'll buy his son stickers for his mobility aids. (Ash feels the love from his Alolan Dad every time Kukui fights for him and his needs. His birth dad was never really around, so having Kukui, who is not related to him by blood, so when he not only stays by his side but advocates for him, it brings tears to his eyes.)

Lusamine has a sticker custom made to have his name on a Pikachu's tail and he loves it. She also probably helps him to get more fancy and sturdy mobility aids, especially for a cane or wheelchair. She knows how hard it is to find a good wheelchair, and she dedicates her time to making the perfect wheelchair for the boy. (It's something very little she can do for him, after all he's done for her and her family. Ash, on the other hand, is so humbled by the gift that he's dedicated to one day returning the favor.)

Lillie is obviously worried, and is one of the few people who finally convinced Ash to get help. If Ash got a mobility aid, she, like her mom, got a custom made order for Ash. Though, indulging in her love of stuffed pokemon, she got him a stuffie of a Pikachu with the same mobility aid as Ash. (Ash cries when he sees it. He's so touched and he never realized how much his friends loved him).

Kiawe is concerned, but turns it into determination. He is determined to help his friend, and he does that by helping him with physical therapy. He'll be by Ash's side the entire time, and helps him with at-home exercises. When Ash is too tired to wheel himself, Kiawe pushes his chair. If there is no wheelchair, he either supports Ash, or carries him. Ash is one of his closest friends, and he'll do anything for his friends. Not only that, but he'll speak up and advocate for Ash in any way possible- sometimes a bit too strong, though. No ADA accessible ramps? He's already berating the owner of the establishment. (Ash loves when Kiawe carries him, he's reminded how Kiawe will always protect him. Though, he wishes Kiawe would tone it down when advocating- he knows he means well, but they'll get nowhere if they're just fighting everyone.)

Sophocles spends an entire night researching Ash's condition to learn how to be the best friend he can be. It results in a bit of an overbearing kind of help, but that's quickly fixed by a series of hilarious events and a talk about letting Ash be independent. Sophocles respects his boundaries from that day on and is the best and most supportive friend he can be. (Ash is so grateful to have a friend like Sophocles. Most people wouldn't do intensive research into their friend's disability. He loves his best friend so much, they're practically brothers.)

Lana does her best to make every adventure they go on accesible to Ash. A beach day? She brings a cooler full of drinks and foods that'll help him keep healthy. A school trip to another island? She finds a list of the most accessible places on the island and hand delivers it to Professor Kukui, making sure he sees it. A part of the mall isnt ADA accessible? She calls every single person she can to get it fixed. By the next time they go, it's fixed. (Ash pretends he doesn't know what she's doing, but he does. When they go to the mall, Ash buys her the best rod and lure he can. It's the least he can do for her.)

Mallow helps him to find the very first sticker on his mobility aids. She takes him, and everyone in their class, on a shopping trip. When Ash is too tired to walk, she brings the stickers to him. When he grins at the sight of that first sticker- a Pikachu using thunderbolt- she immediately buys it for him, as a gift. She then gets everyone to get Ash a sticker that represents them-

Lana gets him a sticker of a magikarp on a fishing poll, Lillie gets him an Alolan Vulpix sticker, Kiawe gets one of a Charizard, Sophocles a Vikavolt, and Mallow a Stenee sticker. Rotom even gets one (a Rotom one, of course). But, the sweetest is when Pikachu runs up to him, with his entire alolan team on his tail, and gives him a sticker of him- there's a sticker of Ash, in this store. It's got the text "Alola's Champion" on it, and Ash tears up and holds his little buddy tight. He's never been more happy. (Ash loves all his friends so much. He never forgets what Mallow did for him, and when those first stickers start to peel off, they're the first in his scrapbook.)

When Gladion learns of the sticker tradition, he gets Ash one of an Umbreon. He places it right next to Lillie's, and smiles as he does it. He also helps to train Ash's service pokemon, which Ash greatly appreciates. (When Gladion's sticker peels off, he makes sure to put it right next to Lillie's in his scrap book.)

It starts out with little minor hiccups- feeling exhausted quicker, needing more sleep etc. Maybe he thinks its depression- he's obviously going to get the full force of PTSD (probably) on him too so that's another option.

But then comes the shakiness. Or maybe some issues with grip or dexterity. More noticeable but he ignores it. He's Ash Ketchum, Afterall! This won't hold him down.

But then his legs will start having issues- maybe they give out, or are hurting constantly. Maybe some dizziness too. Maybe he passes out. Now he notices an issues- and so do the people around him.

Maybe he uses mobility aids, like a cane or wheelchair. Maybe he has service pokemon. Maybe they give him a diagnosis.

If he gets mobility aids, he def decorates them. bro gets stickers of so many pokemon. especially pikachu. (he also has an alola sticker bc hes their champion always and forever <3)

The sun was already setting and was just dipping behind the horizon by the sea. It looked like the sea was devouring the sun. “Fateful encounters can neither be explained nor influenced. One day is actually enough to kick off a huge scandal in Galar that the "unbeatable champion" has disappeared without a trace. That's why we allowed ourselves exactly this one day here. We want to go straight back to Galar. ”, You explained. “But the Corviknight taxi takes four hours to get here. Then it's almost midnight. And we'll be back in Galar around 4 o'clock ... shouldn't we wait for the night? ", Leon asked thoughtfully. You put your index finger under your chin. “I guess you're right. Fine But we do call the taxi driver to ask that he send the taxi off so that he picks us up around 10 a.m. Then we can sleep in and even have breakfast.“ You offered, holding your hand to him. You spent the night with Kukui and Burnet. The laboratory, where the family lived, had enough guest rooms. The next morning Burnet also served the three of you a hearty Alola style breakfast, before you and Leon said goodbye to them shortly before 10:00 a.m. and got into the Corviknight taxi that was supposed to take you back to Galar. During the return flight, Leon thanked you about 30 times for this day of vacation and how much he had enjoyed it in Alola. The people were also very personable and he wouldn’t mind if he ever made another trip to Alola with you. You made a mental note of this and the two of you enjoyed a quiet flight to Galar. The champion gladly accepted the moral sermon that followed from Oleana and Rose and you could certainly claim that this little experience had strengthened the friendship between the two of you. What else would you expect in Galar in the future?

12/06/2022-Martin Down

We came to the other place we did on the bank holiday days last week and came to Martin Down. Early on when walking along the path from the lower car park I was delighted to see a group of tiny pyramidal orchids coming through. A strong species of this time of year which I first ever saw in 2019 here so I‘ve known them a few years now that I was just starting to have on my mind. I took the first picture in this photoset of one. It was lovely to see these distinctive pink gems for the first time in 2022. There was some valerian near them too a nice tall plant my first of the year. When looking at these we were thrust into the bird action as we heard a loud purr from a Turtle Dove coming from the farm area. We had a look over the fence and minutes later saw this dove fly just making out its exotic brown back and then we saw it go across the adjoining field into a prominent tree. A smashing sighting of a precious bird I adore that we didn’t see here at all last year. So it was really nice to see it, my first of the year another top year tick lately to take my year list to 178. I was so happy to see it.

I liked seeing a fragrant orchid further up on the walk, another very beautiful pink flower that it was a delight to see and made me so happy to see it. It’s a species I have heard of before but this was the first I’d ever seen so this really made me happy. Near here was my first definite knapweed of the year a probable greater knapweed a sweet purple flower. It attracted nice bees with red/orange rears here well and there were dazzling Five-spot Burnet moths nearby which I really enjoyed seeing today. Other flowers/plants I liked seeing today on a good afternoon of it was hogweed including adorning the lane in, possible carrot, hedge woundwort, spotted orchids, white campion, a mustard/rocket type flower looking nice with loads in a big clump I took the fifth picture in this photoset of some, cleavers, milkwort, thyme, plantain, stunning red poppy, more lovely bird vetch one I saw well at Lakeside last year and have again in the last week and I’ve seen it here today and at Bentley Wood yesterday so it’s great to see them at a few different places, bird’s-foot trefoil, mignonette, pretty dropwort, speedwell, herb-Robert and some yellow rattle another I’d never seen before but had heard of these are very pretty little flowers. There were nice bits of colour in the grass from the flowers.

Further on we got a top view of a Brimstone butterfly looking fine in the sunshine with a Common Blue nearby I took the fourth picture in this photoset of the Brimstone. Then came another amazing bird moment when near the other gate to the farm a Barn Owl flew over! Another fantastic moment with this quintessential countryside owl and owls generally for me this year. Shortly after seeing this we heard a Turtle Dove purring again which was so immersive and calming. I remember in 2017 first seeing these two species in the year around the same time. It was a raptor and dove fest today as we also got beautiful views of Buzzard which I took the third picture in this photoset of, Kestrel and gigantic Red Kite gliding against the powerful blue sky which was so lovely to see, and saw Feral Pigeon, Woodpigeon and Collared Dove I don’t often recall seeing a Collared Dove here and never recall seeing Collared Dove and Turtle Dove on the same day before.

Soon after I got more lovely views these past few days of a rustic and captivating sight at this time of year, a ripely red Small Tortoiseshell butterfly which I took the sixth picture in this photoset of. Lovely to spend some time with one and see another later in the walk. Small Blue one I have had a good year for, Meadow Browns and Large Skippers seen for a third day running at three different places I love for butterflies and have been so key to my butterfly year so far Lakeside, Bentley Wood and here were other butterfly highlights at this key advancing stage in their year here today. Not long after the Small Tortoiseshell we saw a delicious flash of orange that reminded me of fruit salad sweets, a Wood Tiger moth like the one we had seen at the other end of the site last month here. Such a beautiful moth.

It was nice to take in rich green and panoramic views, with soft fluffy clouds in the blue sky and nice berries in places. When high up near the clump of trees we heard the second Turtle Dove in it was nice to watch the breeze make the grass of a field in sight sway parting the field. There were nice scenes as shadows moved across the landscape at times this afternoon. I took the second and seventh pictures in this photoset of views here today. Looking across a field from the track going the other way from the car park where we went briefly today there were loads of Hares again as there often is and like last time. Another fantastic walk at this truly special and wild place this year.

Wildlife Sightings Summary: My first Turtle Dove of the year, three of my favourite birds the Barn Owl, Red Kite and Buzzard, two of my favourite butterflies the Small Tortoiseshell and Large Skipper, one of my favourite moths the Five-spot Burnet, Kestrel, lots of Rooks and Jackdaws well again, Magpie, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Feral Pigeon, a smashing Yellowhammer again, a possible Corn Bunting, Long-tailed Tit, Goldfinch, Whitethroat, Blackbird, Pheasant, another Mediterranean Gull here like last time which I find so notable so far in land, Black-headed Gull, Common Blue, Small Blue, Small Heath, Meadow Brown, Brimstone, Large White I believe, Wood Tiger moth, other moths and the bees.

We stopped in the Rockford area in the New Forest to let Missy our dog have a swim on the way home and oaks and other trees here looked gorgeous in the strong early evening sun as did some Jackdaws. I took the eighth picture in this photoset there. I saw a Mediterranean Gull and possibly Great Crested Grebe near Broadlands on the way back whilst stuck in traffic. At home this morning I also enjoyed seeing Goldfinches which I took the tenth picture in this photoset of and other birds, admiring flowers including fuchsia starting to come out, the lovely red ones my favourite colour in the ninth picture in this photoset and the first love-in-a-mist I’d seen actually in the garden this year which looked beautiful in the back garden.

- They are litteral slaves, they don't have any choice, no, Silkwings being obedient isn't fucking loyalty to their tribe, it's being scared and knowing your life don't matter to those in power

- A Hivewing ask Luna in book 1 if he could touch her wing buds, I don't know what it is supposed to reference but if I recall correctly, either it's a very much private thing (In my memory Blue says it's very fragile and nobody but a doctor should touch it) or, and it's my, maybe fucked up vision of things, but it looks like a scene of a white person asking to touch a black person's hair, maybe I'm just weird and KingDarkstalker fucked up my mind but the scene feels like that

- A breeding program, in this sort of society, has a very Cattle-like feel, it's not the same as Skywing's breeding program or Midwings breeding nights, the only reason theses couple exist is just to give birth to other slaves

- Also that's probably why Burnet and Silverspot where accepted as a couple, I don't think any tribe in wof is homophobic but I feel like Hivewings would force gay and lesbians dragon to have a partner of an other gender just to have eggs without any regards to their feelings, maybe Burnet and Silverspot were accepted so it would be more easy to pick up Luna and Blue since they would be together

- Hivewings don't protect Silkwings at all, they are the ones hurting them, we never see any threats agaisnt Silkwings' survival other then Leafwing burning the hive, this threat is literary a threat only because Silkwings are with Hivewings

Silkwings were not weak for bowing down to Wasp. It's actually super smart of them. Queen Monarch, whether knowingly or not, kept her tribe safe. Sure the conditions weren't the best but I don't see the Silkwings being endangered like the Leafwings. The Silkwings are large in numbers, not endangered, and live in the Hives where they are promised protection for obedience. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. All I have to do is be pretty for other people, work hard, and be obedient and in return I get protection for myself and my tribe? Good enough for me. Almost every single thing you see about Silkwings in the books is always something to do with their tribal loyalty. There are Silkwings who fight for their tribe and others, like Blue, who protect the tribe by obedience.

So, the good news: Ghetsis was not redeemed, he isn’t going to have a relationship with N moving forward, and although N was shown to wish things could be different between them, ultimately the whole situation was treated with the seriousness and gravitas that it deserved and N never once forgot the abuse that Ghetsis put him through, nor was he at any point willing to just brush it aside. In that regard, I’m very glad for how Masters handled the situation. 

With that said, though, the writing in Masters made me realize something else about how child abuse stories are handled in Pokémon, and that something else is . . . not good. Namely, I’ve realized there is a significant difference between how child abuse stories in Pokémon are handled depending on whether the abusive parent is blood related to the child or not.

First and foremost, let’s get this out of the way: There is a social stigma in Japan against adoption. This isn’t to say that children never get adopted, but that culturally adoption is looked down upon in comparison to having biological children, and as a result there are only a few hundred adoptions each year in comparison to the thousands of kids living in orphanages. (Although this isn’t purely stigma, since in Japan the biological parents can still retain legal guardianship over their children in the orphanages and can therefore prevent them from being adopted by families as well. They don’t do this maliciously, but instead might think, “I will be able to care for my child later” even if that never comes to pass.) Additionally, I’ve read before that the stigma is why adopted children often don’t refer to their adopted parents as “mother” or “father” but I can’t find that source now, so take that with a grain of salt.

Anyway, the point of me saying all of that is: Japan has a stigma against adoption and Pokémon is a video game series created by Japanese people. Therefore, it stands to reason that Japanese cultural beliefs (such as the importance of blood family over adopted family) can make its way into the series, even if the series itself is a worldwide phenomenon that they know will absolutely stretch beyond Japan’s borders . . . and I think that’s what has happened here, intentionally or otherwise. Basically, whether an abusive parent in Pokémon is redeemed or not seems to have very little to do with the severity of the abuse (including that which is shown to the audience), but instead everything to do with whether their children are biologically related to them or not.

First, let’s take a look at the abusive parent that was redeemed, Lusamine. In Sun & Moon specifically Lusamine is not once shown being anything but abusive to her children. Lillie tells a story of how Lusamine was kind to her a couple times in the past (dancing in the rain, co-sleeping when Lillie was sick), but that falls in line for abusive parents. Abusive parents generally aren’t abusive 24/7; there’s a well-known cycle of abuse which contains a “honeymoon period” stage in which, typically after an apology and a promise to do better, the abuser treats the victim kindly, which usually results in the victim believing that the abuser really does love them and that whatever abuse comes later (and it always does come later) is in fact the victim’s fault on some level, for failing to keep things stable. Regardless, we know that not only did Lusamine abuse both Gladion and Lillie terribly in the past (to the point where Lillie has trauma surrounding even the clothes she wears and has trouble getting new ones), but we also see her verbally and emotionally abuse them on-screen, and then we see her attempt to murder Lillie during the climax. While Lusamine was retooled into being a well-intentioned extremist in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, we again see her verbally abuse her children on-screen, to the point where when Hau says that Lusamine really isn’t a bad person after all, we see Gladion grimacing in the background. All told, we see Lusamine emotionally, verbally, and (with her attempted murder in SM) physically abuse her children on-screen, and yet she is still forgiven by them pretty much immediately, redeemed, and treated as if they’re a happy family with just a few unfortunate bumps in their history. I’ll note here, for anyone who isn’t already aware, that Lusamine is Gladion and Lillie’s biological mother, and this is obvious by how similar they all look even if you weren’t told repeatedly.

Now let’s look at the abusive parent that is not redeemed, Ghetsis. In the first set of Unova games, Black & White, most of Ghetsis’ abuse of N happens off-screen and isn’t revealed until the climax. Ghetsis had N raised in a castle underground where he was cut off from society. He was brought pokémon that had been abused so that he could be manipulated into thinking that all humans abused pokémon and that pokémon needed to be liberated therefore. Because Ghetsis needed N to act as King of Team Plasma and control the legendary dragon, Ghetsis didn’t directly abuse N during this time. Instead, he neglected him (N was primarily raised by his sisters, Concordia and Anthea), and psychologically abused him via manipulative lies about what the rest of the world was like. It isn’t until the climax when N has decided to disband Team Plasma and listen to what the player has to say that Ghetsis brings out the verbal abuse, calling N “a freak without a human heart” and revealing that he was only ever using N all along. In the sequel games, Ghetsis is similarly openly hostile to N again, showing that he has no intentions whatsoever of being a good father to him. He’s pretty terrible to him, even if we didn’t see very much of it (particularly in comparison to what we saw with the Aether family, whose abuse was also much more realistic than N’s situation), and pretty much no one would want him to be redeemed. But also it’s important to note that N and Ghetsis, despite having the same hair color, are for whatever reason NOT biologically related. 

And this is hammered home time . . . and time . . . and time again, particularly in this Masters event.

Now, I think most of us would agree that it would be hard to find a woman who would want to procreate with Ghetsis. Granted, Ghetsis isn’t the type of person who would care about consent, but I do think it’s reasonable to assume that Game Freak probably wanted to avoid those thoughts, even though it could have been very easily solved by having a female Sage who was also Ghetsis’ baby mama / wife (similar to how Ariana, one of Giovanni’s executives, is very obviously Silver’s mother). So I mean, from a taste standpoint, I can see why they wanted to go the adoption route with Ghetsis, even though they still made him and N have green hair despite not being biologically related for some reason.

But.

I still think it’s noticeable that they have the irredeemable abusive parent be the one who both had the least amount of on-screen abuse (and also the least realistic abuse) and also be the adopted parent, versus the one they bent themselves into pretzel shapes to redeem be the one with the most on-screen abuse (and most realistic abuse) who also happened to be the biological parent. The message that sends, to me, is that it doesn’t matter how badly you abuse your children in this world so long as you are their biological parent. In the end, you will be forgiven and they are beholden to you as family. Versus if you’re an adoptive parent . . . well, you were never as important anyway, so. I mean, why else would Lillie leave her loving adoptive parents of Kukui and Burnet to go back to her abusive mother in Sun & Moon? Clearly the blood ties were just that much more important. (Granted, Kukui and Burnet hadn’t officially adopted her, but they as good as. I’ll never stop being infuriated by that ending.)

 This is, to a lesser extent, even shown with Giovanni and Silver’s situation. Giovanni was, to our knowledge, never actually abusive toward Silver; in the one conversation we see them have in HeartGold & SoulSilver, Silver’s main issue is that he doesn’t understand why Giovanni is disbanding Team Rocket after losing to Red, and also he doesn’t get why Giovanni needs so many underlings to begin with. He thinks Giovanni is weak, and Giovanni just tells him that he’s wrong without really bothering to explain things. At most, Giovanni is aloof and distant with Silver, which makes Silver angry, but Silver’s bigger issue is with Team Rocket as a whole. Giovanni’s definitely not a good father, but he’s not an abusive parent on par with Lusamine or Ghetsis from what we’ve been shown, and the implication is there that they could potentially repair their relationship in the future. Even in this event, the tension between them wasn’t bad, just complicated.

But . . . they’re also biologically related. Silver is Giovanni’s son, we’ve been told this a million times, and it’s very obvious that Ariana is his mother. They’re biologically related. And so, even though Giovanni is routinely touted as one of Pokémon’s most fearsome villains, Silver will never actually cut him off completely / be able to do that because Giovanni is his biological father. The fact that Team Rocket is based on yakuza probably complicates things even further there, but all the same. If Silver had been adopted by Giovanni, I’m pretty positive that Giovanni wouldn’t care / Silver would cut him off entirely. It wouldn’t be seen as a “real” family.

And this all bothers me, because not only was my biological mother abusive, but my stepmother was the only one who treated me as a mother should treat her child. Similarly, my biological sister was complicit and even participated in the abuse I suffered as a child, but my stepbrother whom I’ve known practically my whole life is the sibling I’d ride or die with. To me, biological ties mean jack shit. Family doesn’t begin or end with blood; to treat non-blood relations as lesser is something that will never fail to raise my hackles. So to see it handled this way in one of my favorite franchises of all time . . . yeah, it’s more than a little upsetting. I understand why it’s happening, I’m fully aware of the cultural context that this series is being written in, but that doesn’t mean that I have to like it, because I don’t.

And before anyone gets it twisted:

Both Lusamine and Ghetsis can rot in hell, NEITHER should have been redeemed. This is NOT me complaining about Ghetsis being treated as the piece of shit he is, but rather my anger at the fact that Lusamine got a pass because she birthed the children she abused, and Masters making that abundantly clear by having N and Ghetsis state in every single chapter of this event that they weren’t blood related. 

But anyway, it’s nearly 4am, and I need sleep. I can continue being angry about Pokémon’s handling of abusive parents at a later date.

-While Ravi obviously ADORES his little brother and will absolutely wreck the shit of whoever tries to hurt him Am I implying someone is going to help put Lysandre in the grave? …. -If Ravi hasn’t accidentally or purposely called Delia his mother in this sub-AU… he WILL when the events of Movie 3 play out. He’s either gonna fight that Entei himself (and probably lose since it’s literally powered by Molly’s love) or he’s joining Ash in climbing that tower.

-I recently rewatched the DP anime and got to the episodes in Snowpoint and I discovered something that adds to the hilarity of the Ravi-Brandon relationship; Ash calls Brandon to let him know he’s in Snowpoint City when the Regigiaus subplot happens… implying Ash knows Brandon’s phone/work number for some reason. Either A.) Ravi got his shit together and did what Brock could only DREAM of by dating his Frontier Brain rival/crush or B.) Ravi doesn’t have a phone but the Ketchums know there’s a high likely hood he’ll end up running into Brandon when he’s on the road, so the Ketchums just have *his* number instead for when they need to find Ravi.

-Ravi’s not a battler, but when he does fight he fights dirty. He fights almost exactly like his canon counterpart only he won’t resort to using human shields; he will aim for kneecaps, give concussions, and fuck up the terrain around him all for the sake of victory. (I headcanon that this is the same for most Pokelantians and was common in their society; gotta be cutthroat to survive in ancient times.) The only thing saving the Indigo League and all other regional events from Ravindra’s battle style is simply the fact that he’s not interested in that lifestyle anymore. He’s had his glory back when he was king, now he just wants to put that life behind him and feed his Clefairy poffins while occasionally hearing about what Ash has been up too.

-Also, if Ash can adopt Cosmog, Ravi can adopt Lillie and Gladion. Fuck you Lusamine, you remind Ravi too much of his birth mother, HIS kids now.

Embarrassing Ash is the one thing Ravi will not hesitate to tag-team with Delia on. They are a force to behold. Especially because they are both so genuinely proud of their boy, that’s why they scrapbooked these, everyone needs to SEEEEEE, LOOK, ISN’T HE WONDERFUL (moooom, ravi-niisan, stooooop)

You know when Professor Oak tries to scold Ash over the phone for putting himself in danger during Movie 3? When he finds out Ravi is there with him the older brother is absolutely taking all the flack, Oak's disappointed in him, how could you, you are also his grandson and also get back here, 

they dated like once on a dare and it was awful (it was great) but yes. oak has all the resident archeaologists’ phone numbers and delia by dint of being a former student and close family friend also has several numbers and brandon’s absolutely got on the list at some point

Ravi is a shifty little bastard when he fights, yes! you gotta love it. it’s good for everyone that he doesn’t battle anymore but at the same time...you gotta wonder where ash gets his creative battling skills from. it sure aint his dad. 

in golden dad au, at the very least, i totally plan on having lusamine be a combination of her overbearing affectionate anime self and the abolutely narcisistic and self-centered game self, so she is a much less sympathetic parental figure there (and may or may not fixate on ash as a potential symbol of beauty/rareness the moment she gets an inkling of what he is) so yeah. ravi absolutely tag-teams with kukui and burnet to adopt the aether sibs. his kids now. he already knows what a mother that lets herself go to the forces around her is like, he aint letting more kids suffer that

There must be another version of that escene, maybe this one was for the gag reel, but do you remember when Anna talked about pitch perfect in comic con? she said that there was a "bechloe moment" filmed, and she didn't know if that was going to be put on the final version, and that maybe means that we have a more "cinematic" version of the kiss, and that can be backed up with Rebel and Shelley versión of how that scene was filmed, so maybe another kiss exist in the vaults of Universal.

I do think there’s another “version” of the scene, but only as far as it would be more high definition. But still the same scene.

I think the moments that appear after the credits or during the credits are quite frankly not meant to be taken too seriously. So even the Chicago/Chloe kiss was just an outtake. I do think Kendrick genuinely tried to get the kiss filmed—and it seems like it was to some degree—but they didn’t include the kiss in the outtakes for whatever reason. I don’t think she “tricked” them into filming it like some others are saying, at least not so insidiously (reasoning below).

I understand why people think there’s another kiss, but this lowkey fits the bill. I think when Rebel initially said nobody else was around for the kiss, I think she meant all the other Bellas. And also keep in mind that a lot of PP3 was improv’d which means that this was Kendrick, on a whim, following the likely-simple direction of “how would Beca react to Chloe and Chicago kissing” and this was probs the second take after the take we saw in the movie. So Kendrick did what she thought Beca would do per her headcanons about Beca and Chloe. That was, I believe, Kendrick putting in her best faith efforts to act as Beca and Snow responded as Chloe accordingly. 

Because Kendrick and Snow both ship Bechloe to some degree, it was rather natural for them. Guy Burnet and Matt Lanter are new to the series and probably do not care that much about Bechloe. Kendrick also probably didn’t tell them she was going to do that (though I do believe she and Snow have talked about it before), hence why “Theo” was so caught off guard and hence why he somehow thought kissing “Chicago” was the right reaction to take in this improv’d scene.
