I'm rewatching Angel. More specifically, just watched 3x01, "Heartthrob", and I'm still amazed by the fact that we have :
-a blond, blue-eyed vampire,
-called JAMES (*cough*),
-who just lost the blonde, Buffy-styled, love of his life and can't process it.

They even gave them the same kind of haircut.
And this episode was shoot and aired approximatively at the same moment as the first episode of the 6th season of Buffy. The parallel is so obvious, it hurts 😭
I like that they're presenting a contrast with Angel, who feels bad because he's of course affected by Buffy's death but actually doing ok, and feels guilty for being ok. He's not at the same point anymore. It was an interesting highlight and comment about his own journey.

I once saw a quote that said the idea for Buffy came from subverting the horror movie trope of ‘woman is attacked in dark alley’, by making the female protagonist stronger than her attacker.
But I do find it interesting that when the female MC is given the power to fight back, she’s not just expected to protect herself, but to save everyone else as well.
And I think that’s such a tragic side to Buffy’s character, that it’s never enough for her just to protect herself, she has to save the world too, even at the expense of her own life and happiness.

Personally I am not going to hate on the Buffy reboot until it actually proves itself to be a bad thing, given Sarah Michelle Geller has returned, Joss Whedon is NOT involved, and Dolly Parton is producing I am going to be optimistic and then if its bad I can just pretend it never happened like we all do with the Veronica Mars reboot.

i do think it's strange when people act like joyce telling buffy "if you walk out that door, don't even think about coming back" was some kind of fundamental trauma for buffy. it was a dick move on joyce's part for sure and i don't think it helped buffy's feelings of alienation but let's be real that was not in the top 5 most traumatic things that happened to buffy in that 24-hour period. like kendra got murdered which she blamed herself for, the police then blamed her for kendra's murder and tried to arrest her, snyder kicked her out of school, giles got kidnapped by her evil abusive ex-boyfriend, her friends got beat up by said abusive ex's minions, she had to swordfight said abusive ex, and then he got his soul back but she had to kill him and send him to hell anyway to prevent the literal end of the world. all of those things are worse than 'her mom said something mean and desperate to try to get her to stay' sorry

The Wildwood Universe
What I hope is for this to finally be the mother of all shared universes.
A retroactive shared universe of over 900+ media consisting of movies, TV shows, video games etc. that is established and brought together by The Wildwood Chronicles. The whole universe explores completely different tones and aesthetics with all numerous kinds of stories. It's also a universe that's incredibly similar to ours except with very noticeable differences and is far more fantastical, bizarre or visceral. The biggest ones are the ostracized Marley and Eldia side with the man-eating Titans, the cut-off zombie outbreak side with said zombies dubbed "walkers" and don't even get me started on the Observers. Oh, and did I also forget to mention there are public superheroes and supervillains in this world with their own guilds.

Tell Giles... tell Giles I figured it out. And- and I'm okay. And give my love to my friends. You have to take care of them now. You have to take care of each other. You have to be strong. Dawn, the hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Be brave. Live. For me.

I think it’s so interesting how much authority is awarded “the author” in different fandoms. You always here people scream “Death of the Author” but still hold up authorship as an authoritative concept.
Like, when Buffy had bad storylines the consensus was something like ‘trust Joss Whedon” who btw turned out to be a horrible person.
Similarly, Kripke was kind of deified by the fandom (and also kind of by the show) during early seasons spn.
Even disclaimers on fanfics show this dynamic. Why did we write stuff like ‘these characters belong to JKR’?!? Like no shit, I didn’t create Sirius Black but the character still doesn’t belong to that woman?
It’s so interesting to look at the stark difference between gomens and spn fan discourse at the moment. I’m not saying one way is the right way, just that the dynamics are interesting.
Neil says something and most people respect it, some even see it as their duty to act as his apostle and spread his word. People are in his asks to try and get his opinion on certain fan theory bc they consider him the ultimate authority over canon.
And then you have spn fans, especially destiel fans. Not only do they not care what kripke/ dabb or most of the show runners say, they actively oppose the “authors”’ perceived interpretations of the characters and routinely make fun of them. Dabb says he wrote a finale that is only meant to satisfy 30% of the fans and the rest of the fandom decides to strike it from canon and collectively produce enough fix-it fic to fill a library.
Can you imagine what would have happened if Dabb or Kripke or whoever had asked the fandom to keep a spoiler or leak like the gomens one a secret?!? It would have become a meme in 5 seconds and it would have trended above a historic election.
