The more I think about it, the more hilarious it is to me for MAWS Clark Kent to potentially run into Bruce Wayne.

Clark's Superman career is literally just starting, and if we're going by the general wishy-washy timeline that DC comics give us, that means Bruce has at least one year as Batman under his belt.

You got adorable babygirl Clark Kent out here trying to discover who he is while also struggling to juggle his personal life with the weight of responsibility he feels towards his powers. He's dipping his pinky toe into the massive ocean of absolute craziness that comes with being a superhero.

Fuck, he hasn't even met Lex Luthor yet, y'all.

Meanwhile, a few states away, you got Bruce leaning full hard into his "I am Vengeance. I am the Night" schtick. This motherfucker just got back from his batshit insane training world tour and Alfred is probably just happy that his son ward is at least coming home every night. Nevermind that he spends all of his time pouring over grainy video footage and case files while blasting his underground bunker with Nirvana's greatest hits. It's the small things.

I'm just asking y'all to picture this with me: Year One Batman running into Barely A Week Old Superman.

I'm admittedly not very familiar with Kon-el's backstory, just the vague details, but I got the idea of him somehow escaping CADMUS ahead of schedule, and winding up in Gotham, where he accidentally becomes one of Batman's rogues. He's just coming into his powers, and isn't quite sure what he's doing, just that he wants money (later he'll claim he gets that from the Luther part of his DNA and people just go along with it). Eventually Batman gets a sample of his DNA and realizes oh no, this kid that's been harassing him and his children (mainly Tim) is freaking Clark's. Suddenly it all makes sense. And then they have uncomfortable phone conversation.

Bruce- Kent. Clark- Hey Bruce. Is something the matter? Bruce- Depends. Clark- slowly Okaaay. Depends on what? Bruce- I’m hurt, Clark. Clark- What does that mean? You sound okay? Bruce- I thought we were esteemed colleagues. Clark- We’re friends. Bruce- Esteemed colleagues that tell each other when they’re seeing their mortal enemy. Clark- What does that even mean. Bruce- I tell you everything about Selina. And Harvey. And Talia. And the thing with Khoa- Clark- You’re not being very helpful right now. Bruce- But you didn’t tell me about Lex? Clark- What. Bruce- sends DNA results Congratulations, it’s a half-Kryptonian Gotham rogue. Clark- sputtering Bruce- Get him out of my city.

I wanna see Bruce “I would rather fistfight a whole squad of rabid bears than engage in social interaction” Wayne desperately and awkwardly try to avoid Lois, Jimmy, and Clark as they try to get an interview with him. Bruce backflipping and scuttling his way outta talking with them. Lois raging and coming up with plans to ambush Bruce into an interview. Jimmy honestly hand to god believing Bruce is a vampire and trying to offer him food with garlic to prove it. Clark’s “babygirl cinnamon roll newborn puppy” energy clashing like titans with Bruce’s “sopping wet feral cat emo teenager” energy.

Okay so I am am avid fanfic reader. Cool so are most of us. Rn I'm on a superbat binge. I keep seeing either bats is this cool hardened controller and supes is basically innocent or supes is big strong alien and bats is babygirl.

Instant regret. World harrowing regret. Throw-myself-into-the-sun regret. Where’s-the-nearest-kryptonite regret. Why-in-the-world-did-I-just-call-Bruce-I’m-Vengeance-Wayne-baby-girl regret.

Clark swallows before turning around, suddenly very aware of every molecule in the car part he’s lifting. The tiny bubbles in the paint, not visible to the naked eye but very much feeling like tiny knives cutting into his hands at the moment.

Every single emotion is wiped off Clark’s face the moment the words leave his lips. He does have enough self control to school his features into a neutral expression as he waits for Bruce’s reaction.

Bruce is… standing very still.

Clark is afraid he might have broken him.

“I’m s-” Clark starts to say as he sets the heavy metal down gently on the ground.

Bruce holds up a hand to silence him. Clark obliges. There’s a moment. Then two. Then three. Clark wants to fly himself into the sun.

Bruce’s mouth is pressed into a thin line and he’s at a level 7.5 frown. Not good. Not the worst Clark has ever made him frown, but still not good. They don’t talk about the Disaster of The Level 9.8 frown. Dick told him it was the highest score any of the kids had ever seen. It didn’t make Clark feel any better.

“Bruce, I-” he tries again but this time he’s interrupted by the frown morphing into… disgust? Confusion? Clark’s so stressed out he can’t really tell.

“‘Baby girl’?” Bruce says, his lip curling. Ah. Very close to disgust. Distaste, at the very least. “Out of all the pet names, you go with ‘baby girl’?”

“That’s- that’s your only issue with-”

“Of course, it’s not my only issue,” Bruce is quick to say. He starts pacing. Oh no, pacing means a lecture. “I am perfectly capable of moving my own equipment, I told you to sit down and wait for me if you wanted to stay.”

“I just wanted to help,” Clark says and he has no idea what’s happening at this point. Is he forgiven? Is he allowed to call Bruce pet names? Does Bruce like pet names?

“I know,” Bruce huffs. “I know.”

There’s a moment of silence.

“Why baby girl?”

“Kon’s been over a lot lately.”

“Ah.”

Another moment.

“Wait, who the hell does Kon call baby girl?!”

tim Obviously asks dick to be his best man. therefore bart and cassie are like, we have to duel to the death for kon's hand. not the romance hand tim you can have that one. the other hand. SQUARE UP!!! until cassie is like bart you know the best man/maid of honor traditionally have to do a lot of the planning and logistics help and work? and bart's like. logistics? planning??? never mind you can do it i'll be the ring-bearer. LIKE FRODO!!

they discuss a lot of venue options. beach wedding? fancy rooftop venue in metropolis? farmhouse chic in smallville? ...let's not get married in gotham though tim. yeah no that's definitely fair let's not get married in gotham i just know it'd tempt some fuck outta arkham to do a gas attack :/

eventually they go with the fancy evening rooftop venue in metropolis. it's small enough to keep it a fairly intimate affair, and also the city view at night is very romantic and fun. clark gets weepy during the ceremony. (bruce is teary too but staunchly denies it.) kon wears a dress. tim "hasn't cried in at least a year" drake needs a minute after the ceremony to just cling to him and Process His Feelings. they get sooo many photos. their first dance is INCREDIBLY fun, elaborate, and well-choreographed (liquid lead and everything. tim dips kon. kon lifts tim.) and they have a great time. they smear cake all over each other's faces. they lean in for the kiss and cass hollers GET IT BABYGIRL!!!!!!! ma is mildly scandalized.
