Alien *watching "The Matrix" with their human friend*: This is amazing, I didn't know humans were capable of such feats.
Human: Oh no, this is all special effects, humans can't move like that.
*NEXT NIGHT*
Alien *Watching a Bruce Lee movie with their human friend*: Wow, the special effects are amazing in this movie.
Human: Huh? No, this is all practical. Bruce really did all that.

i think about this tweet at least once a day
the idea of humanity having to prove ourselves to a cold foreign alien superintelligence is just so incredible and funny to me. like a civilization that's at least a 5 on the Kardashev scale that can harvest the energy of entire galaxies and supernovae with merely a thought and command growth and decay with but point of their finger, and they notice a bunch of ants on this weird blue and green pebble in the middle of nowhere and they're like, 'hey, what can you guys do?'
-The year is 2622. Tony Hawk is hanging ten off of a black hole's gaping death-maw of an event horizon shaped like a Penrose triangle, landing LITERALLY impossible tricks
-behind him in the background, Alex Honnel, visible only thru a telescope, is currently on his 5867890th day of free-soloing the Pillars of Creation. he has a single bag of chalk and he's just going ham
-Jimi Hendrix has been resurrected from the dead and has a whole stage devoted entirely to him where he's being forced to try and play a guitar that's been altered on a universal-mechanics level so that not a single note it can play is in tune with any other note, even down to the microtones. his solo is making them all weep
-the entire arena is being continually bombarded by a barrage of flaming meteors at thousands of miles an hour; if just a single one of them lands, the entire place goes up is smoke and humanity is eradicated. they're held back only by Daigo, hooked up to a VR Street Fighter helmet + fight stick programmed to affect reality itself. he is parrying all of them
-a giant lineup of famous comedians are all simultaneously trying to make an ancient alien sage who has no concept of what humor is laugh. if he's displeased they get shot full of holes with laser rifles. there are only two still standing. Gilbert Gottfried is doing a stalling tactic, reciting the longest-ever Aristocrats joke for the past five decades. everybody is mortified of what will happen when he gets to the punchline. standing next to him, miraculously, is Gallagher, whose routine has never worked harder
-the Five Gods of Smash Bros. Melee, along with Wizzrobe, aMSa, Leffen, and Zain are pitted in a 9 vs. 1 grudge match (Final Destination, no items) against a perfect quantum hypercomputer matrix that can precisely calculate any given equation imaginable, answer unknowable questions, and is trained in every game that has ever been recorded. They win if they can take one stock. There is no damage limit; aMSa is on his last legs at 90,156%. Wizzy is still DI-ing every hit. Mew2King is slowly beginning to figure out a way to out-think it. PPMD's impeccable neutral baits the computer into getting hit by Armada (perfect as always), who bounces him into Mang0's backswing that it never saw coming (that's the mango), which whiffs (that's also the mango). After one hundred years, the computer has grown weary and begun to physically deteriorate from how long Hungrybox, determined to win, has been ledge-stalling it. There is simply nothing it can do.
-a tag-team dynamic duo of Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, both in their prime, hopped up on every hard drug and steroid ever invented and all but immune to pain, are struggling to box with a giant kaiju-gorilla elder god from outer space that has conquered ten worlds. It has just been given its 6,083rd black eye
-Steven Hawking, Plato, Albert Einstein, Confucius, Carl Sagan, and also Michael from VSauce are having a heated, passionate discussion about life, the universe, and everything with a board of alien philosophers in a great pantheon beyond the stars, looking down over everything. it was a challenge originally but now they're just kinda talking
-Bruce Lee is learning to punch faster than the speed of light. If the x2 billion times-slower camera the aliens are capturing his fists with show him in frame for more than 10 picoseconds, he must start over
-Shakespeare is collaborating with Neil Cicierega and Bo Burnham to produce a large-scale comedy puppet musical of the event with an infinite budget in case we all get wiped and the aliens want a fun little jaunty flick to remember us with (livestreamed by Jerma)
-Summoning Salt and Rod Serling are on commentary
-the music is provided by what humanity unanimously agreed was the best song anybody's ever written to represent us, "Down at McDonaldzzz" by Electric Six, who are performing it over a galactic PA system in an opera hall with Dio on backing vocals, Chuck Berry as lead guitar, and orchestral arrangements by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, and Hans Zimmer. the aliens are bobbing their heads in surprised appreciation. of all the things we've done, it really is the most impressive

funnily enough im pretty sure i did read the actual comics before wfa. i vaguely remember reading utrh first? and then i either watched the movie next or read batman's whole robinjay run + aditf + alpod. and then wfa. i only read detective comics' robinjay after i finished wfa i think. i know i also spedran all of the post-crisis jason's death aftermath/appearances according to the reading list by dailyjasontodd. spedran his stuff post-resurrection too, minus countdown, 52, brothers in blood; i only realized I'd already read outsiders before when i reread it just now, though. which is really funny like the reason i remembered was because anissa and grace got together. that's how i knew I'd read the comic before. i was like oh i remember these gay bitches. i know there was a time after comics where i then dove into fandom and just immersed myself with art, fic, and posts. it was a little weird at first but i hadn't read enough for the other characters to know, and it's very easy to get drawn into fanon bc its satisfying to an extent, you know. ooh, i know i read three jokers early on. i was in love with that artist's jason and i found that one panel really funny (babs "he literally killed a man" bruce "you don't understand... jason's suffering"). i dont remember much about my first batman period. i do know it was all batman tho.
this is getting long.
my second batman period (more accurately termed batman/dc) was mostly me revisiting fics and remembering canon things that made me upset again. oh and also other robinjay stories that i hadn't read before like the cult, etc. but after some time i, and i dont know how this happened, got interested in hal jordan. i genuinely think it was just a fanart i saw of him with white temples. i thought it was hot and imagine my delight when i found out it was canon. and then i found out he turned villain and i was like WOAH I NEED TO GET ON THIS and tada, speedran parallax arc all the way to the spectre. tried reading rebirth and hated it so bad. stopped reading hal after that. somewhere along the way i found myself reading superman. then i dont know how this happened but i got interested in matrix/mae kent specifically and read up on her origin. afterwards i went to death of superman all the way to his resurrection and mae/lex breakup arc. i think this period fizzled out shortly after that. ooh, im checking my gallery rn, apparently i also read death metal and the return of bruce wayne. i dont remember anything about the latter. i remember being pissed at the former. i also read the damian resurrection arc and got really mad at an interview in one of the comics bc it was more of those "bruce feels more strongly for damian than his other kids bc damian is his Real Son" like bitch. No.
OH!! i also read the long halloween & dark victory during this time! this must have been when the batman came out. ALSO READ CONNOR!! i started at the time ollie died and went on until the time ollie came back but connor was now comatose (?). i remember a lot of screenshotting panels bc of how appalling the coloring was, connor's skin color was disrespected so much in this few issues 😭
ooh, interesting. after connor panels there's no more until this year, which would be my 3rd dc period. i reread the long halloween and dark victory, and then finished the last few chapters of the spectre. after that i started young justice but never finished. i reread utrh, and then funnily enough went straight to reading all about steph up to war games. after steph i read some other robin tim issues at random and then i finally read brothers in blood. quick break for batman year 100 and then right into batgirl (this was right after lee and i became mutuals). ooh, spirit world. and then ram v's the vigil. then i read rhato special? special? idk if that's the name but it was like a oneshot for rhato? or was it rhato #0? idk. i laughed the entire time. it was so bad. then i read gotham war, hated it. read some issues of black and white. three jokers again. finally read robins by seeley. robin year one. some pre-crisis jason esp the nocturna arc. tt #29. issues of gotham knights #43 something? + the interview about jason issue. actually i think that's all in the same arc. batman prodigal. pre-crisis talia. mandatory reread of batman #496. tried to start countdown, failed. the cult reread. BIRDS OF PREY!! cry of blood, and then a vichelena binge. the huntress cavalieri! the question o'neil! read a lot of huntress. tripped abruptly into hawk and dove, read a lot of cameos after their solos ended. read identity crisis after seeing the bruce tim panel. read jade (nguyen) in preparation for my comm critical essay. read superman again for the invisible mafia. started both superwoman 2016 and steelworks but never finished. read talia lexcorp arc and Never Recovered. tower of babel. redemption lost (ASS). rucka's wonder woman & the hiketeia. some titans bc of jade. more jade stuff. more huntress stuff (specifically nightwing cameos). read tom fucking taylor nightwing. started but did not finish dixon nightwing after that. started a reread of the spectre. started reading azrael + knightfall stuff but am not finished. was hit with the jli disease (lethal). then went back into superman comics but specifically the start of the lex luthor 2 arc + mae :). and now retracing post-rez pre-morrison jason comics

I feel like in another universe if Mac was born a little later, he would've been this very specific brand of '90s weeb.
Him being obsessed with karate, leading him to watch bad eng dubs of hong kong movies with bruce lee, jackie chan, and john woo (and by extent, be really into the matrix movies). Being excited to watch lethal weapon 4 because it has jet li in it. Getting nunchucks soley cuz of bruce lee and mimicking his sounds, project badass not only being inspired by jackass but also jackie chan's stunt work, playing street fighter 2 and tekken in the arcades, getting vhs bootlegs of hyper violent anime ovas initially for the fight scenes but then getting really drawn into it for the underlying homosexual tension between the male main characters/enemies. Bro would be trying to do kamehamehas and shoryukens in the school playgrounds and fall on his ass and be bullied for it

was tagged by @patronsaintofdesire to answer these questions and tag nine people you want to get to know better! thank you, malina :]
last song: as of writing this, marie doucer, marie colère by manon hollander from the john wick 4 soundtrack. it's essentially a french version of paint it black by the rolling stones & it's a banger
favourite colour: i always say yellow (like a gold yellow, #ffc000), but by that i usually mean the combination of black & yellow. i'm also pretty fond of the greyish-blue i use on my blog (#7b9e9a)
last film/tv show: the last thing i watched in full was point break (ty andrew @busaikuknee for initially convincing me to watch it, "keanu reeves has to learn how to surf to solve robberies" is a truly baffling concept & no one will ever do it again). i say "in full" bc also been revisiting a lot of clips from ip man 1-4 so in my head it feels like i've rewatched those too
sweet/spicy/savoury: savoury. i don't have sweet things very often, and while i can tolerate fairly spicy food i just don't enjoy it that much (i'm a massive disappointment to my family)
relationship status: philosophically speaking, aren’t we all single?
last thing i googled: cozmo and vector robots! i saw a video somewhere of these guys and got so excited. they're these rly cute little WALL-E -esque robot friends made by an american robotics/ai startup called Anki, who specialised in robotics technology for children. i looked online to see if they were still around, but they've been discontinued since the company went bankrupt in April 2019 <\3
also related, there's this article from 2019 i read called Discovery of the Uncanny Valley that briefly mentions the Vector robots, but also discusses other examples of technology made in the past that have these human-like attributes given to them. it's a light read & there are some links to other similar articles at the end if you're into that stuff :]
current obsession: well, wrestling is always a given. i've fallen out with njpw for months now, but i've been watching more pro wrestling noah instead & i'm loving it tbh
apart from that, i've been watching a lot of Donnie Yen films bc i'm a little bit a lot in love with the old man (60 y/o btw & looks like that, fucking wild man). and by proxy i've been learning a bit about chinese martial arts (wing chun, in particular (a southern chinese style that influenced guys like ip man, bruce lee, jackie chan, sammo hung, donnie yen, etc etc)) through his interviews and stuff.
it's funny that i'm always so interested in "sports" i can't ever physically do & they always have some element of storytelling/performance and coordination... the martial arts to stunt performance to choreography to dance pipeline is all just so fucking fascinating.
i think chinese martials arts has gripped me bc all these 70s/80s/90s films made in china rely so much on pulling off wild stunts and fights without the budget for cgi and equipment. not to discredit the guys that do their own stunts in hollywood, but it's rare and always cause for celebration... in chinese filmmaking it's so normal. and as a result their performances are just so real and visceral. like, i watch wrestling ffs, ofc i'm drawn to films where storytelling and physicality intertwine. you construct intricate rituals etc etc
on that note, i'm really excited by the new wave of stunt performers turned film directors we've been getting. guys like Yuen Woo-Ping (Matrix Reloaded, Drunken Master) are already established in coordinating incredible scenes and stunts, but more recently: Chad Stalenski (the John Wick films), David Leitch (Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde), Sam Hargrave (Extraction), etc. there's a sort of magic lost in all these mainstream big budget marvel superhero and hollywood action films where fight scenes are so easily ruined by a thousand jumpcuts and wiring and fantasy, but these guys are bringing back that special smth, that authenticity and grittiness (not only in their choreography, but in the filmmaking and cinematography of those fight scenes too). it's so refreshing & i’m fucking nerd sorry
not so much an obsession, but i've also developed a new, old appreciation for woodwork (carving, whittling, joinery, etc) & in another life i think i would have loved to be a carpenter...
last book: admittedly, i don't read. tho i got a joblot of old hellblazer comics from ebay recently and have been meaning to revisit them
looking forward to: not much really... i find it hard to think about the distant future & i don't get that sense of anticipation and motivation from long-term plans. maybe getting this third and last year of uni over and bloody done with? which is incidentally something i'm absolutely dreading (“you need to get a job, you need to get a job, you need to get—”)

Chinese developer S-GAME has announced action RPG Phantom Blade Zero for PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store). A release date was not announced.
Get the first details below, via PlayStation Blog.
“What’s your plan, knowing you have only 66 days to live?” This journey began with Rainblood: Town of Death, an indie game I made back in 2010. The development process was a creative outlet for me as an architecture student, first in Beijing and later New Haven. When I returned to China, I founded my own development studio, S-GAME, and Rainblood grew into a franchise that would later become Phantom Blade. Most of these titles were for smartphones and never released outside of China, but we still managed to build a fan base of over 20 million players. Now, allow me to introduce Phantom Blade Zero, the spiritual rebirth of the original Rainblood and the game we always wanted to make.
Kung-Fu Punk Phantom World, the universe in which the game is set, is a place where many kinds of powers converge. Here you’ll find Chinese Kung-Fu, intricate machines reminiscent of steampunk, arts of the occult, and other intriguing elements that don’t quite fit into any of these categories. In Phantom Blade Zero, you play as Soul, an elite assassin serving an elusive but powerful organization known simply as “The Order.” Soul is framed for the murder of The Order’s patriarch, gravely injured in the ensuing manhunt, and, though his life is saved by a mystic healer, the makeshift cure will only last for 66 days. Now, he must fight against powerful foes and inhuman monstrosities, all while seeking out the mastermind behind it all before his time runs out. From Louis Cha’s Wuxia stories and Bruce Lee’s films to Michelle Yeoh in Everything Everywhere All at Once and Donnie Yen in John Wick: Chapter 4, Phantom Blade Zero draws on a wide range of martial arts icons, but with a twist of its own. What we call “Kung-Fu Punk” instills a heavy dose of punk spirit and our unique visual aesthetic.
Worldbuilding
Phantom Blade Zero unfolds in a semi-open world, consisting of multiple large maps filled with diverse, handcrafted activities. This world of Phantom Blade Zero is bleak and punishing, a constant reminder to never let your guard down. Seeking out the game’s many challenges and power foes will reward you with weapons, armor, artifacts, skills, and other ways to customize or progress your character.
Authentic Action by Mr. Kenji Tanigaki, Action Director
Having a decade of mobile development under our belts, we’ve learned to simplify control inputs for touchscreens, giving players ways to execute elaborate moves without mindless “button-mashing.” We’ve taken these lessons and applied them to action gameplay with a controller. And we’re honored to have Mr. Kenji Tanigaki as our action director, the fight choreography master behind many of the classic martial arts films that inspired us. For Phantom Blade Zero, Kenji-san physically demonstrated each move in the game to be scanned by a camera matrix. This data was then used as reference material for our animation artists, who would then rebuild these moves by hand for use in the game. This is all we can disclose for now, but there is much more to come.

Audible's Marvel Wastlanders is gonna be available in italian in june and the voice for Doctor Doom is...
...drum roll please...
... Luca Ward!
Tumblr media
YES! 🙌
He's one of the best italian dubbers. He's been the voice of Keanu Reeves in "Matrix", Brandon Lee in "The Crow", Pierce Brosnan as 007, Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes" and many many others (Tom Hanks, Richard Gere, Bruce Willis... he's also been Mufasa in 2019 "The Lion King" and Smaug in "The Hobbit") but what's more famous for is giving the voice to Russel Crowe in "The Gladiator".
He has a warm, deep, smooth voice and I really really hope Ward's gonna be Doom's voice in the movies too... whenever Marvel Studios decide to have compassion of us and introduce him in the MCU, that is -.-
