Banana Republic, Here We Come!
After watching some of the fiasco yesterday with the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Democrats roasting Supreme Court Nominee Bret Kavanaugh over an open fire, I fear for our country. It is hard to believe all this hatred between parties started over a blow job in the White House so long ago. I wish Bubba had never been impeached over lying about it. I wish we had never heard of Ken Starr or Monica Lewinsky. That incident started a snowball effect that has polarized the entire country up to this point and has boiled over to a degree where I do not believe it can be rectified.
The reason I do not believe it can be rectified is because of Donald Trump’s election. His election has opened the cellar door, and there is nothing but corruption down there when it comes to our government. The fix was in for Hillary. All the pundits had her at 90% to be elected on the day of voting. Donna Brazile, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Andrew McCabe, Jim Comey, Rod Rosenstein and the numerous others did all they could to make sure an outsider like Trump would not be elected and, if he was, to make sure he didn’t stay elected. But the sheep didn’t follow the shepherds this time.
One of the most insulting things I hear in the media is when we are referred to as the ‘fly over’ states. That’s all we are good for...to fly over, as the elites go from California to New York and from New York to California. Perhaps if they would look down from their lofty height, as they ‘fly over’, they can see the rest of us shooting the bird at them. Because that’s what we did in 2016. We don’t believe in coronations. We believe in elections. We are also aware that we don’t live in a democracy. We live in a representative republic that was designed to keep mob rule at bay through the electoral college. It keeps the majority from trampling on the rights, liberties and freedoms of the minority who don’t hold the same beliefs, political ideals, and social norms as they do.
The liberals have gone insane over Hillary’s loss, and not because Hillary lost, but by her losing, someone was placed in the White House they could not control and ergo could not control the rest of the government, whether they be elected officials or bureaucratic minions. All of their machinations to gain and keep power have been exposed and are being exposed. They were even eating their own, using every tool at their disposal to derail Bernie Sanders in favor of Hillary. Don’t get me wrong, I did not support Hillary or Bernie, but I do support fair elections and political campaigns. Bernie was robbed, and he knows it. Hillary was to be crowned, but the ‘fly over’ states had a different idea.
I would hope none of you reading this post would disagree that if Hillary had been elected, nothing we have heard over the last two years would have been exposed. Not one whit of it. But now, the Democrats have no clothes, and they don’t like being naked in the public eye. The liberal, socialistic, anti-American media don’t like it either, and all of them are clawing at your eyes to keep you from believing what you’re seeing, and putting muffs on your ears to stop the drumbeat of truth that is blaring at you right now. “Are you going to believe them or your lying eyes?”
If the Democrats win in the mid-terms, we will be one step away from being a Banana Republic...the largest in the world. The rule of law is being shredded right now in our Senate Judiciary Committee, of all places. The JUDICIARY committee! Allegations without evidence become automatically credible. Then, if that doesn’t work, heap more allegations on top of the original allegations. First, it was an attempted rape. Then it was a rape. Then it was gang rape. High school yearbooks are evidence of foul, evil behavior by teenagers that erase...ERASE...a lifetime of, by all accounts, good, adult behavior and service to the people. Suddenly, SUDDENLY, this boy that plies girls with alcohol and drugs, gang rapes them, accosts them, makes rape attempts...goes on to be an exemplary student, adult, lawyer, judge, working with many women who have never seen or heard of improper activities around them or to them, and has been subjected to six FBI background checks and only NOW do we hear of Ford and the gang rape victim Swetnik? Do you truly find this plausible? If so, then I repeat...I fear for our country. Common sense isn’t common anymore. It could actually be extinct. I hope and pray this nonsense will stop, or at least be curtailed to some degree. Evidence brings credibility. Not allegations. Whether you be male or female. I don’t know if you’re aware of this...but females also lie, cheat, steal, defraud, defame, and any other evil you wish to name. Our prisons are full of them. Men haven’t cornered the market on evil. We’re all in the same boat on that one. Banana Republic, here we come. It’s only a matter of time.

Bill Barr Is Closing In On Democrats – He Admits Americans Will Be Familiar With ‘Some Names’
We sympathize with you if you’ve been impatient to hear results from the DOJ’s investigation against the deep state. But the good news is, you might not have to wait much longer.
Bill Barr’s “bulldog” John Durham has been leading the case for a long time. It seems he has left no stone unturned to get to the truth.
And Barr himself is hinting at action soon, saying the people charged might be very familiar.
From Fox News:
Attorney General Bill Barr told Fox News’ Bret Baier in an exclusive interview aired Tuesday that Americans will be able to recognize “some” of the names under investigation as part of U.S. Attorney John Durham’s ongoing probe into federal surveillance abuses — and that he is “very troubled” by “what has been called to” his attention so far.
AG Barr said that Americans will be able to recognize some of the names Durham is investigating.
The attorney general went on to say that he was “very troubled” by what his case has uncovered so far.
Our Take:
Once Barr’s investigation into the deep state kicked off, he said there were signs of misconduct.
He seemed to suggest that Obama’s DOJ and FBI were not doing things by the book when they went after Trump’s campaign.
John Durham, who has led the charge, elevated his probe to a criminal investigation last year. That suggests he hit some pay dirt.
Only recently have Americans discovered some truly shocking details. Thanks to Richard Grenell, key documents have been released.
We learned that Obama’s administration might have been up to no good.
Now, Barr is saying we’ll see some familiar names come up in Durham’s probe.
Could we be saying names like James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Andrew McCabe, or Susan Rice?
How about Barack Obama or Joe Biden?
We don’t know for sure yet, but Barr’s words should have Democrats (and their buddies in the deep state), very worried.
SHARE if you want Barr to bring them all to justice.

Stone Them
Let’s start with this question: Did Maine Senator Susan Collins really believe what she said when she stated The Don was “chastened” by impeachment? If she did, she should be voted out of office for stupidity? For her lack of insight in to the nature of Malignant Narcissism? Suffering from a delusional disorder? You choose.
If Susan Collins was just doing Susan Collins- the hand wringing, the pretending to be a tortured soul of an independent mind- then she should be voted out for insincerity? Hypocrisy? Cowardice? You choose.
In essence, this was another Bret Kavanaugh moment for her. In the Kavanaugh debacle, somehow she managed to find compassion and acceptance for a rapist’s actions. Let’s make that two sexual predators actions, as The Don belongs to this club as well. The great defender of women’s rights? Women should vote her out.
Susan, I hope your tortured soul is keeping you up at night. Your lack of courage and duplicity (and all Republican Senators but Mitt Romney), and your ability to rationalize The Don’s behavior in Ukraine as not worthy of conviction, has enabled and unleashed a man with a rapacious appetite for power and vengeance. But somehow I am imagine you and your Republican cronies are sleeping fine.
Not a peep from you Susan as The Don does what he does best: turning things on its head by turning what he has called a “witch hunt” against him in to a witch hunt against anyone he feels has been disloyal and aggrieved him. Now that he has been unleashed, he is licking his lips as he has flipped “they are stoning me” into “they will pay for their transgressions and I will stone them.”
Here’s chastened for you:
“Ralph Waldo Emerson seemed to foresee the lesson of the Senate Impeachment Trial of President Trump. ‘When you strike at the King, Emerson famously said, “you must kill him.’ Mr. Trump’s foes struck at him but did not take him down
@realDonaldTrump
And King Don has started his purge and stone them campaign.
Adios Lt. Alex Vindman and his twin brother Yegevny for responding to a subpoena and telling the truth.
Adios Gordon Sondland. Even the million-dollar donation to The Don which got you the ambassadorship doesn’t protect you.
And Attorney General William Barr continues to interfere. He even has set up a separate intake process to receive information from Rudy G. who is still gathering information on Joe Biden and his son Hunter and their activities in Ukraine.
Here’s an imagined conversation between The Don and Barr.
The Don: What the hell do you think you are doing going on TV saying I am making it hard for you to do your job? I should fire you. No one who works for me goes on TV and trash talks me. No one. I could have your head for that. Understand, you chubby dufus?
Barr: Mr. President, you need to calm down and let me explain what’s going on here. Let’s go over the strategy we devised.
The Don: I can’t believe you trashed talked me!
Barr: Please Mr. President, hear me out. Let’s go back to the beginning. You need to trust me. You want your Roy Cohen, right?
The Don: I need him. No one fought as dirty as him.
Barr: Well, I can fight pretty dirty too. And I am pretty clever as well. Look how I took the Mueller investigation and made it seem that it was just, meh? Between me and you Mr. President, there was a lot of shit in there that was pretty damning but my summary vindicated you.
The Don: Yes, you did do that. But Barr, there was nothing damning in that report, so you better take that back.
Barr; But Mr. President…
The Don: Take it back.
Barr: Absolutely, Mr. President. Absolutely nothing damning in the Mueller report. The entire thing was a fantasy made up by a man out to get you.
The Don: Yes and now that I have been vindicated and consolidated my powers as King we should investigate Mueller. He’s a bad, vicious man who deserves the full force of my retribution.
Barr: I will look in to that.
The Don: I want Comey’s ass on a stick. And Barr, it really is time to lock up Hillary.
Barr: We are working on that case as we speak.
The Don: And what about McCabe. Aren’t we going to hear he is indicted any day?
Barr: Well, about that sir. It seems the investigation has not turned up enough evidence to pursue an indictment.
The Don: Are you shitting me? That man is a low life. Don’t you just love the fact that he was fired a day before he was eligible to get his pension? That result is unacceptable, I want another investigation.
Barr: Mr. President, not indicting McCabe is infuriating but it gives cover to our plan. Not indicting him gives the appearance of an independent DOJ. Now can we revisit the plan so we can get clear about it?
The Don: Make it fast as plans are for losers, but what was our plan?
Barr: If you remember, you instructed me to interfere with Roger’s case and Flynn’s as well.
The Don: So?
Barr: So I am doing it, but you tweeting about it shines a spotlight on it and makes it seem that I am following your orders.
The Don: But you are following my orders. And if you didn’t…
Barr: You would have my head which is the kingly thing to do of course. But back to my point.
The Don: So what’s your point? I need to get ready for Hannity on Fox.
Barr: My point is I am doing what you want me to do, and you need to keep your thumbs quiet about it, as it complicates things.
The Don: I was just trying to give you a shout out for bringing justice to those who have been treated unfairly.
Barr: I understand Mr. President, and I appreciate it. I told you I would have to go on TV to refute the tweeting as it is bad optics. The public will think I am working for you, and even though I am working for you, I have to make it seem that I am not.
The Don: I don’t understand a word you are saying. Just double talk. Just free Stone and stone the rest of those bastards.
Barr: Your wish is my command, but please keep those thumbs in your pocket.

Hi! I'm an anon who really likes to read your comments and discussions. 😊Today I got curious about the book you mentioned (Days without end), but sadly it's not available in my mother tongue. I'm not sure if I can manage it in English tbh. What did you love about it so much? And: could you perhaps recommend other (queer) books you loved/enjoyed a lot? Thank you!!
Hello Anon! I’m really glad you like to read the discussions here. Do join in whenever you feel like it :)
Days Without End is an absolutely beautiful book. It’s extremely violent, set in a very bloody wartime period in US history, but that just makes its tenderness even more evident. Ultimately it’s a love story and a survival story, set against unspeakable horror. The love story unfolds in the most matter of fact, uncomplicated way and …I don’t know, there’s something about the language of affection and admiration that the main character uses that make it incredibly affecting.
Sebastian Barry has the most amazing language - very lyrical, very colloquial. But it would be difficult to read as a second language I think, and it would be a shame to lose the nuance. Barry’s books have been translated into around 30 languages so hopefully it will be translated into yours soon. I love pretty much everything he has ever written, though this and A Long Long Way are my favourites (he’s not a queer novelist, Days Without End just happens to be a male love story)
Oooh, ok, other queer books…let me have a good think about this. I’m at work so don’t have access to my bookshelves for reference! So this is off the top of my head….but I’ll come back to it!
When I was a teenager I read a lot of very extreme, explicit queer literature by writers like Dennis Cooper, the Beat writers from the ‘50s, Bret Easton Ellis etc. But I don’t know if that’s what you’re looking for?
Some classics I’d recommend - ‘Giovanni’s Room’ or ‘Another Country’ by James Baldwin. There’s the short story ‘Brokeback Mountain’ by E Annie Proulx (it’s in the story collection At Close Range. You may already have seen the movie Brokeback Mountain but it doesn’t matter, the story will break your heart again). ‘Middlesex’ by Jeffrey Eugenides is one of my favourite ever books, I’m pretty sure I recommended it to someone here before, tagged under ‘books’. ‘Tipping The Velvet’ or ‘The Night Watch’ by Sarah Waters - they’ve both been adapted into television series. ‘Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit’ by Jeanette Winterson. ‘Breakfast On Pluto’ by Patrick McCabe (though that would be hard to read if it’s not in translation). The Color Purple by Alice Walker if you haven’t already ready it!
Hope that’s a help…if anyone has any recommendations, pitch in!

SUPER-SIX LIST: A JIM ROCKFORD WISH-CRAFT
With James Garner's death over the weekend comes the realization that we will never have any new movies or TV show appearances for either of his two most famous roles.
The Powers That Be should have done something about that while they had the chance. (Yes, I know about the TV movies for Rockford and the big screen adaptation of 'Maverick'. But what can I say? I'm greedy.)
SIX TV SHOWS IN WHICH
JIM ROCKFORD COULD HAVE APPEARED
1) 'Columbo'
Martin Ross is a blogmate who has a fanfic site dedicated to stories about Lt. Columbo. And one of his stories is about a case in which Columbo found himself working with a private eye named Jim Rockford.
A GOOD CIGAR IS A SMOKE-SCREEN
I could see the two of them meeting and eventually teaming up. Probably against one of Jimbo's clients - but the Rockfish would have found a way to hold off the Lieutenant until he got paid.......
2) 'Remington Steele'
Steele would have exasperated Rockford but Jim would have continued the forced partnership for the sake of Laura Holt. And that could lead to Steele's suspicions that Rockford was Laura's biological father.....
3) 'Hart To Hart'
I could see Jim having worked for Jonathan Hart in the past. And he might have recognized Jennifer Hart as the twin sister to private eye Christine Dusseau (who once worked for U.N.C.L.E. using the code name "April Dancer".)
(I could also see Rockford getting in the middle of an SID case involving Al Mundy. Rockford would be just Rockford's luck to be the only private eye who could foil a burglary and be arrested by the government for his troubles.)
4) 'Batman'
I used to argue that Toobworld's Gotham City had to be in California since the 1966 movie had those ocean scenes. But I now accept the claim that it's to be found in Delaware - so it would be on the Atlantic and not the Pacific.
Jim Rockford had traveled to the East Coast in the past - in one episode he found himself in New Jersey. So he may have come to Gotham City, Delaware, in pursuit of a villain who double-crossed him for his fee. Or maybe it was a failed attempt to clear his name before he got sent to prison for five years.
I'm thinking Colonel Gumm as the man responsible.....
Colonel Gumm was played by Roger C. Carmel
5) 'Murder, She Wrote'/'Jake And The Fatman'
We got ourselves a three-way! Hey! Easy, boy.....
Jessica Baines Fletcher may have lived in Cabot Cove, Maine, and Jim Rockford lived in a trailer in a parking lot along the Pacific Coast Highway. But J.B. Fletcher traveled all over the world because of her murder mystery books so a trip to Malibu would not have been unlikely for her.
Perhaps their paths crossed due to District Attorney Jason Lochinvar McCabe, who lived in the same area as Rockford. (His home was just beyond the pier restaurant seen at the other end of Rockford's parking lot location.) Maybe Jessica had been consulting with McCabe for background information for a new book and he suggested she talk with the private eye who broke that case.....
6) 'The Saint'
Simon Templar is a world traveler and I'm sure Los Angeles would eventually have been on his itinerary for one reason or another. With Templar, adventure usually fell into his lap and he may well have just stumbled into a case that was being investigated by Rockford. (Perhaps it could have been a return visit by Kendall Warren. At least it would make sense that her path might cross with that of Simon Templar's, with Rockford along for the ride in Kendall's wake.....)
As usual, I am restricted by naming this category after a cartoon show. But I do have one more suggestion to share.....
BONUS!
'The Prisoner'
My "Don't Laugh!" entry for this list.....
In episodes like "The House On Willis Avenue", Jim Rockford doubled-talked himself into a lot of dangerous places and found out things that he was never meant to see. Sometimes this information was classified by the government and if somebody found out.....
Well, there are places for people who know too much. It could be that Jim Rockford was abducted and found himself in The Village back in 1967 where they had given him a number and taken away his name.
Eventually, Rockford would have been released. (I think he would have been too smart/cautious to attempt an escape.) And that whole story about him serving time in prison could have been a cover story to mask the truth.
At any rate, I just always wanted to see Patrick McGoohan and James Garner together in something.....
SUPER SIX LIST - A BRET MAVERICK WISH-CRAFT
With James Garner's death over the weekend comes the realization that we will never have any new movies or TV show appearances for either of his two most famous roles.
The Powers That Be should have done something about that while they had the chance. (Yes, I know about the TV movies for Rockford and the big screen adaptation of 'Maverick'. But what can I say? I'm greedy.)
SIX TV SHOWS IN WHICH BRET MAVERICK
COULD HAVE APPEARED
1) 'Downton Abbey'
Bret Maverick was born April 7, 1847. I'd like to think that he lived as long as James Garner did, which would mean that he died in 1933. (Bret Maverick is one of those characters, like Archie Bunker and Lt. Columbo, who should be considered as having died around the same time as the actors who portrayed them. It's inconceivable to imagine anybody else stepping into those roles - at least on TV.)
So it's feasible to think that he could have made the ocean voyage to England at any point during the 'Downton Abbey' timeline which began onscreen in 1912 and so far has reached 1923. (Maverick would have been 76 in 1923.)
But why/how would he have met anyone from Downton Abbey, whether upstairs or downstairs? Perhaps he got himself invited to one of Lord Grantham's clubs for a friendly game of cards. Or at some other social function like the running of the horses at the Derby.....
2) 'The Murdoch Mysteries'
Again, Bret Maverick would have been still hale and hearty at the turn of the 20th Century. And as Maverick wandered all over the West looking for a game, perhaps he went to Toronto in hopes of joining in on one with a big pot there. Or maybe he was looking up somebody who owed him a sizable debt. That would be a great kick-off to an episode in which the debtor winds up dead and Maverick is blamed. It would take William Murdock to find the real killer.
BRET MAVERICK AT THE TURN OF THE CENTURY AND BEYOND
3) 'The Adventures Of Brisco County Jr.'
I've always said that if only Robert Conrad had been hired to reprise his character of James T. West in 1891 for the show, then it ight have brought in enough ratings to justify a second season. Having Bret Maverick playing poker against Brisco and Lord Bowler would have done the same thing in - ahem! - garnering ratings.....
4) 'The Wild Wild West'
A lot of the small towns visited by Bret Maverick over the course of his series - like Duck 'n' Shoot - would have been the perfect backdrop for some Old West despot to establish his base of power. And I can just imagine Dr. Miguelito Quixote Loveless being driven to exasperation by Maverick's constant quoting those Pappyisms.....
5) 'Nichols'
What a fantastic Sweeps Week episode it could have been for Garner to play two roles in the same episode - but unlike the final episode of 'Nichols', at least we would see the two of them together, thanks to special effects. Yes, there would have been an age difference - by 1914, Bret Maverick would have been 67 years old, while Garner was just 43 at the time. But he resorted to old age make-up in the past in order to play Pappy Beauregard Maverick, so why not again?
6) 'Doctor Who'
Don't laugh! With the TARDIS, anything is possible, so the Doctor could easily have visited the Old West while Bret Maverick was alive. He did so in "A Town Called Mercy", but the time period would not have jibed with Garner's physical appearance at that point. (Not that he was healthy enough to play the role at the time.)
By the way, "The Gunfighters" storyline wouldn't count as a possibility because the Doctor and his companions were not really at the OK Corral. They never did realize they were in a holographic projection created by the Melkotians from 'Star Trek'.
Why would the Doctor have met Bret Maverick? Besides the random chance always considered whenever the TARDIS comes to a stop, Maverick might have been knee-deep in some scenario that cried out for the intervention of a Time Lord.
The return of the Master?
Some apocalyptic weapon devised by Dr. Loveless
The Orb sought by both Brisco and time traveler John Bly
An invasion by aliens a bit more threatening than those seen in the Old West of a 'Time Tunnel' episode
Of all the Doctors' regenerations, I think it would have been fun to see Maverick interact with either Pertwee's Third Incarnation or Tennant's Tenth. (And again, Garner could have done an episode in that time period of 2006-2010.) Unless they did a lot of location filming, I don't think the production quality of the episodes during the tenures of Hartnell and Troughton would have been acceptable for an appearance by Garner. (And that's not even taking into consideration that his movie career was beginning and that his imbroglio with Warner Brothers would have prohibited him from playing the role again at that time.)
Geronimo!
BRET MAVERICK, CIRCA 1921 GOOD NIGHT AND MAY GOD BLESS
THE HAT SQUAD: JAMES GARNER, NOT A BARBARIAN AT THE PEARLY GATES
As I wrote up my tribute to James Garner for Facebook very early Sunday morning, I got this image in my poor excuse of a noggin which I think would have amused the actor.....
As in my favorite Bret episode of 'Maverick' ("Shady Deal At Sunny Acres"), I picture James Garner sitting outside the Pearly Gates, that celestial Sunny Acres, whittling a stick without a care in the world. "You think you're getting into Heaven?" asks St. Peter.
"I'm working on it...." he replies.
And damn (Sorry, Lord!) if he wouldn't have pulled it off.....
Good night and may God bless......
THE HAT SQUAD: REMEMBERING JAMES GARNER, A TOOBWORLD GIANT
"You're not going to cry, are you?
I can't take that before breakfast."
Jim Rockford
When I saw the news about James Garner online while at work, I quickly dashed off how I was feeling for Facebook; shared on my personal page as well as on the Toobworld Dynamic page. I say I "dashed it off", but some time was spent in putting it together as I wrote, editing and adding details as I went along.
James Garner was one of my big TV idols since I was a kid. And for me, this may turn out to be the heaviest hit the Toobworld pantheon will suffer this year. So I poured a lot of my heart into that piece for Facebook.
I've looked it over and I figure I'm going to let it stand as my tribute to the tall dark stranger there in the plaid sports jacket who works for 200 dollars a day plus expenses and who always has a "Pappyism" at the ready. (Yes, there's no separating Bret Maverick from Jim Rockford for Garner's biggest accomplishment.)
So here's what I wrote in memory of the late great James Garner, who saw himself as Crusader Rabbit......
This one hits me hard. Just the other day when his official page mentioned "Murphy's Romance" as his only Oscar nomination, I thought to myself it would be unlikely that there would be any more. This is a case where I hate being right. Reports coming in from TMZ and picked up by the Daily News are saying that James Garner passed away on Saturday at the age of 86.
Every movie I saw him in I enjoyed, even when he played the villain (only twice that I can think of) although I never thought it was the type of role that suited him. 'The Americanization of Emily' (Of course! Should be required viewing!), 'The Great Escape', 'The Art Of Love', 'Marlowe', even 'The Lipstick Jungle', the combo of 'Hour Of The Gun' and 'Sunset', 'Twilight', and that Atlantis cartoon with Michael J. Fox......
But it was his TV work I treasure most, as many of you would expect. When I first discovered Bret Maverick in high school, it was like finding finally the "hero" who spoke to me, one whom I could admire and wish to emulate. And then that was heightened by the too short run of 'Nichols', a truly craven character not seen in Toobworld before and none to match him since. (It's my holy grail to finally see the last episode of that show which I had to miss due to an altar boy meeting - probably the first step in causing me to lapse. LOL)
And of course during my college years it was Jim Rockfish - er, Rockford. I don't think a month goes by I don't try to catch an episode on ME-TV. (I'll probably watch the one tonight in his memory.)
Before his stroke, he was doing quite nicely as the go-to guy to give a show the jolt it needed if it was flagging in the ratings ('Chicago Hope') or because of an emergency situation ('8 Simple Rules'.)
Bret Maverick is already a member of the Television Crossover Hall Of Fame. (July 2007) It's only a matter of time before the Rockfish joins him......
"My Pappy always said:
'A coward dies a thousand deaths, a hero dies but one.'
A thousand to one is pretty good odds."
Bret Maverick
Good night and may God bless......

Developing now, Thursday, June 14, 2018, Flag Day – and President Trump’s birthday
New details on the Hillary Clinton email investigation are expected Thursday when the Justice Department’s inspector general releases his report
Following the Trump-Kim summit, the Pentagon is expected to cancel the next scheduled joint military exercise with South Korea, a senior administration official says
Republican lawmakers accuse Justice Department officials of trying ‘to hide information’ on the FBI’s alleged ‘spygate’ scandal as the war of words escalates between the GOP and DOJ
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders pushes back on a report that she plans to leave the Trump administration
The 2018 FIFA World Cup begins Thursday as host Russia squares off against Saudi Arabia, one day after a U.S.-led coalition won the right to host the 2026 tournament in North America
THE LEAD STORY – THE INSPECTOR GENERAL’S REPORT, AT LAST: A slew of FBI and DOJ officials could face a reckoning when Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz on Thursday releases a long-awaited report detailing his review of the Hillary Clinton investigation during the 2016 presidential race … For more than a year, Horowitz has been reviewing the FBI and DOJ’s actions related to its investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. The report is not expected to address the DOJ and FBI’s actions taken in the Trump-Russia investigation, or re-litigate the Clinton case. But it will mark the most definitive accounting of the email probe to date, looking at — among other things — whether “certain underlying investigative decisions were based on improper considerations.” Among the top Justice Department and FBI officials expected to face scrutiny in Horowitz’s report: fired FBI Director James Comey, then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch, fired Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe and FBI official Peter Strzok.
David Bossie: Much-anticipated Inspector General’s report on DOJ, FBI comes out — then what?
NO MORE ‘WAR GAMES’? – The Pentagon is expected to cancel the next major joint military exercise between the United States and South Korea scheduled for August, a senior administration official told Fox News late Wednesday, the same week President Trump said he would move to stop U.S. war games at the Korean Peninsula … The official said the Pentagon likely would make the formal cancellation announcement in a press release Thursday. Trump discussed U.S. actions in the region in a news conference Tuesday following his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. An agreement signed by Trump and Kim at the summit does not have any mention of suspending war games. Pentagon officials were surprised when the president referred to the war games as “provocative,” as the U.S. military had always characterized them as “defensive” in nature. The upcoming joint U.S.-South Korean military exercise is called Ulchi Freedom Guardian.

Trump, in Fox News interview with Bret Baier, says of Kim Jong Un: ‘We understand each other’
Ex-CIA officer: During Trump-Kim summit, China and Russia were surely spying
Judith Miller: North Korea Summit — A Trump-Kim PR stunt or a major step toward denuclearization?
A GAME OF SEEK-AND-HIDE: Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee said Wednesday that an upcoming Justice Department briefing on documents concerning the FBI’s alleged use of an informant linked to President Trump’s 2016 campaign does not satisfy an April 30 subpoena … In a letter sent to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and signed by all 13 GOP members, the committee wrote that the DOJ limiting the briefing to the so-called “Gang of Eight” was “unacceptable and an affront to the oversight powers of the House of Representatives.” Speaking to Fox News’ “Hannity” Wednesday night, committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said “people in America should be alarmed” at the Justice Department’s actions “to hide information.”
The “Gang of Eight” refers to Republican and Democratic leaders in both houses of Congress as well as top lawmakers from the House and Senate intelligence panels. Last week, Nunes set a June 12 deadline for the Justice Department to hand over documents related to the alleged informant to all committee members “and designated staff.” A DOJ official said last week that Thursday’s scheduled briefing would include new materials and “documents that were available for review but not inspected by the members at the previous briefing [in May].”
Judge Andrew Napolitano: More assaults on the rule of law
GOP pols slam Rosenstein, say staff ‘shaking’ in fear over ‘threats’
Sean Hannity: Rod Rosenstein ‘should step aside or be fired’
Reports: Michael Cohen looking for new lawyers in FBI probe as key court deadline approaches
Giuliani denies report that Cohen may cooperate with investigation
‘I LOVE MY JOB’: White House press secretary Sarah Sanders hit back against a report that she was considering leaving her role, saying she “loves” her job and is “honored” to work with President Trump … Sanders was replying to an earlier CBS News report that both she and deputy press secretary Raj Shah have considered leaving their positions in the administration. “Does @CBSNews know something I don’t about my plans and my future,” Sanders asked in a tweet. “I was at my daughter’s year-end Kindergarten event and they ran a story about my ‘plans to leave the WH’ without even talking to me.” Both Sanders and Shah are weighing future options, Fox News has learned, which may or may not include their departures from the White House.
Larry Kudlow released from hospital after heart attack

Longtime Salt Lake County clerk being challenged by her own employee
SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County’s longtime clerk, Sherrie Swensen, is gunning for an eighth term after nearly three decades in office, but an unexpected rival is challenging her.
One of Swensen’s right-hand employees — Rozan Mitchell, the Salt Lake County elections director — is running against Swensen. And it’s not exactly being considered a friendly competition.
"It’s been rocky," Mitchell admitted when discussing her decision to run against her boss in an interview last week.
Swensen said she was "taken aback" when Mitchell told her she was going to run.
"I guess I don’t know how I feel about it," Swensen said. "I have worked very well with her and I’ve trusted her, but again, it’s someone’s right to run and if that’s what she wants to do and that’s her goal, then so be it."
The rivalry between Swensen and Mitchell is among some of the interesting local races happening in this year’s elections. Other county seats up for grabs include the sheriff, district attorney, auditor, recorder and some County Council seats.
Mitchell is running as a Republican, while Swensen is running as a Democrat — though both women say they aim to keep the issue as nonpartisan as possible, both passionate about keeping the clerk’s office a politically neutral ground.
Mitchell said she decided to run for a variety of reasons, but "the bottom line is I really feel a change of leadership would be a good thing."
"Sherrie’s 28 years have brought some amazing experiences and opportunities to that office — but 28 years is a long time, and I really feel that it’s time for a change," Mitchell said.
The county elections director said she made up her mind after supporters started asking her why she wasn’t throwing her hat into the ring.
"I realized that if I really did want things to be different, it was up to me," she said.
While Mitchell said she recognizes the strength of the county clerk’s office, she’s "also acutely aware of the weaknesses." Those include room for improvement in the vote-by-mail marketing to improve voter turnout, and concerns about the county’s current election equipment and security, she said.
"Election security is really big in the news right now nationally, and I’m really worried and concerned that Salt Lake County isn’t taking it seriously," Mitchell said, noting that Swensen "feels confident" that the county’s current voting system will be sufficient for the next presidential election in 2020, even though other counties are switching to a new system starting this year.
Swensen disputes Mitchell’s concerns, noting that even though Mitchell is the elections director, "she’s never brought any of those concerns to me." She said "security is absolutely paramount to me" and she’s worked hard to transition voters to a vote-by-mail system and increase outreach and education for voter turnout.
As for security and new voting equipment, Swensen said she first oversaw new equipment implementation in 2006, about two years after other counties, and she learned the advantages of waiting for others to work out the kinks beforehand.
"Jumping on board right away with a new system isn’t necessarily the right thing to do," Swensen said, noting that she plans to do the same in the coming years. She also pointed out that Salt Lake County has invested in upgrades for the current system, whereas other counties haven’t.
As for Mitchell’s stance that the clerk’s office could use some fresh blood after 28 years, Swensen said she has unique experience that the clerk’s office needs, and not just in elections, but in the marriage and passport division.
"We learn something new with every cycle, and I can tell you that all of the years that I’ve been in the office and the experience that I’ve gained through all of those years are a plus, not a minus," Swensen said.
Mitchell’s decision to run has put a "strain" on their relationship, Swensen acknowledged, but she said that strain began back in 2016 after Mitchell implemented a new process to have poll workers update info for provisional ballots, which Swensen said resulted in long waiting lines at polling places during the presidential election.
But back in 2016, election officials had warned of the potential of long lines because so many voters seemed to be waiting until the day of the election to vote. Counties throughout the state saw instances of long lines, but Salt Lake County polls were particularly packed.
Afterward, Mitchell attributed the waits for the need for more polling places, but because state law restricted counties from adding polling places less than 15 days before an election, there wasn’t much county officials could do.
Mitchell said while things have been strained between her and Swensen, she hopes they can "remain friends."
Here are some other interesting local races in 2018:
Salt Lake County
Three County Council seats are up for election. One incumbent, Councilman, Arlyn Bradshaw — a Democrat — is running unopposed.
But longtime Councilman Jim Bradley, also a Democrat, has two Republican challengers for his at-large seat: Roderick Threats and former state lawmaker Sophia DiCaro.
Two Republican incumbents — Council Chairwoman Aimee Winder Newton and Councilman Steve DeBry — also have a challengers: Democrats Lisa Gehrke and Pamela Berry, respectively.
Auditor Scott Tingley, a Republican, is up against Garry Hrechkosy, a Democrat, and County Recorder Adam Gardiner, a Republican, is up against Democrat Rashelle Hobbs.
District Attorney Sim Gill, a Democrat, is facing Republican challenger Nathan Evershed, and Sheriff Rosie Rivera is being challenged by Republican Justin Hoyal.
Utah County
The scandal around Utah County Commissioner Greg Graves, who has said he won’t seek re-election but plans to serve out his term despite calls for his resignation, has drawn a crowd of six candidates, all Republicans.
The candidates are James Dixon, Russell Billings, Teri McCabe, Karen Ellingson, Thomas V. Sakievich, and Tanner Ainge.
Graves has been accused of sexual harassment and bullying in the workplace. Though an investigator did not corroborate allegations of sexual harassment, he did conclude that Graves is widely viewed as a "workplace bully," among other things.
Commissioner Bill Lee — who is among those who have called for Graves’ resignation — also has some challengers: Republicans Rich Jarman and Timothy William Spencer and Democrat Jeanne Bowen.
Three candidates have also lined up to replace outgoing District Attorney Jeff Buhman: David Leavitt and Chad Grunander, both Republicans, and W. Andrew McCollough, a Libertarian.
Clerk/Auditor Bryan Thompson is seeking re-election but has three challengers: Republicans Amelia Powers and Stephen "Hemi" Hemingway and Jason Christensen, an Independent American.
Outgoing Sheriff Jim Tracy’s seat is also up for grabs, with four candidates, all Republicans: Jim Phelps, Michael Freeman, Mike Smith and Darin Durfey.
Davis County
Davis County will have at least two new faces, with a sheriff and county commissioner not seeking re-election.
Two candidates — Kelly Sparks and Arnold "Butch" Butcher — are vying to replace Sheriff Todd Richardson, who isn’t running for re-election amid at-times rocky relationships with other county elected officials.
Commission Chairman Jim Smith is also leaving his post, attracting a pool of six, all Republicans: Kathleen S. Anderson, Thomas Tony Christopulos, Sherman B. Hawkes, Lorene Miner Kamalu, Beverly K. Macfarlane and Bruce Young.
Commissioner Bret Millburn, a Republican, is seeking re-election, with three challengers, including Republicans Brian Muir and Bob J. Stevenson, and Independent American, Tamara P. Long.
County Attorney Troy Rawlings, a Republican, also has some GOP challengers: David M. Cole and Samuel Lurlen Knight.
Clerk/Auditor Curtis Koch is running unopposed.

"Check on It" foi escrito por Beyoncé, Sean Garrett.

"Check on It" é uma música de R&B e hip hop midtempo, Mila Kunis adota vocais suaves e atraentes ao longo de "Check On It".
A música descreveu "Check on It" como "sinuoso brilhante".
