A catalog page from the early 1970s (the Marx Knights and Vikings were on the market from 1970-72).

I never had a talking G.I. Joe, but I had the non-vocal twin of the one in the green fatigues. I never really got the appeal of the talking feature.

I also had the Mercury space capsule, but an earlier version released with an original Joe without the lifelike hair (aka indoor/outdoor carpet).

Sadly, my Mercury space capsule - like the vast majority of my toys - fell victim to my younger brothers. They took it in the backyard and attempted to re-create when the real capsules would splashdown on Earth. Except we didn't have a pool at the time, so when they threw it up in the air it smashed-down on the ground, into approximately 3,265 pieces.

As for the knights and Vikings figures, I never saw any the few times I was ever in a toy aisle, and I didn't know anyone who had them.

It’s time.

I have been holding off on this, but it’s 2025 now, and somehow I have.. about 33 Tumblr followers? That may not seem like a lot, but to me it proves that more than one person is interested in me and my ramblings. This is monumental for someone like me. I wanted to do a “year in review” post during which I went over how touching it is that I have friends and even a boyfriend now— in opera form —but I decided against it. Instead, I will be doing a face reveal. Most of you already have a vague idea of what it looks like, and feel free to unfollow me if you see fit; I shall not blame you. I have become more comfortable showing my face a bit at least with Christine— I have censored it in most of my posts where it’s out though —but this time I will not.

This is whom you all have been talking to— under the mask.

This face is a curse, but some people have given me hope about it. I am fully prepared to be turned away, but I cannot keep hiding it and cannot let you all be my friend without knowing what it is that you are friends with.

I’m Erik Destler, and I’m trying to become more comfortable with the face in the mirror.

attended my good friends’ halloween party as christine last night and was a little sad because some of the guests who i did not know previously were Not Getting my costume… then spotify halloween playlist puts on the titular song of poto (2004) AND (at the exact same time) I HEAR A KNOCK AT THE DOOR.

Lol, are you also upset when they cast Jewish people in christian/non-jewish roles? It's all pretend, also being jewish doesn't necessarily mean that is your ethnicity.

magneto was sent to a concentration camp because of his ethnicity and christianity isn’t an ethnicity it seems antisemitic to me for you to feel this strongly about jewish actors not getting roles

The Mighty Vikings - Brave Erik, and his father, Odin the Viking Chieftain - with their mounts.

Produced by Marx Toys (aka Louis Marx and Company) between 1970 and 1972, the figures were part of the Noble Knights and Mighty Vikings line.

These 1/6-scale figures each came with multiple weapons and helmets, and the horses came with an 11-piece saddle-and-tack set. The horses had articulated necks so that they could lower their heads to graze, and small wheels inside their hooves.

Like other Marx 1/6-scale action figures, these were made of solid plastic, so they were relatively heavy. One Viking and his horse together weighed 3 pounds 3 ounces.

SECRET GOOD LND ENDING REVEALED

( aka I've been saying for years that LND would be better if Erik died at the end instead of Christine and I finally put my money where my mouth is and wrote it out. the dialogue/lyrics are mostly from the OLC recording, but the last moment is based on the proshoot. very little dialogue has been changed; mostly it has been reassigned. there is perhaps more stage direction than is necessary to reflect how I would block the scene. )

Okay but the scene where Wille sees Simon for the first time is cinematic excellence and in this essay I will discuss why

My cousin pointed this out to me that when Wilhelm arrives at the church, all our attention is taken up by the arrival of Felice, as she and Wilhelm greet each other.

We barely notice Simon entering the scene as it is Wilhelm's POV, and he doesn't notice Simon, so neither do we. Plus, they purposely placed him behing Felice so he never stands out.

Simon starts singing but he isn't giving his best. Wilhelm's attention is everywhere but not on Simon. In this scene, Simon is continuously going in and out of the camera's focus, sometimes even blurred. The lightening doesn't help either, Simon is clearly not the main subject.

But when the bloke interrupts the choir, that's when Simon starts giving his best and sings out loud in defiance. And that's when magic happens.

Wilhelm notices him properly for the very first time- he's the main subject of the camera and the lightening, he's the main lead now. Wilhelm actually ✨SEES✨ him, and so do we.

And for him Simon is the most beautiful thing he's ever seen at that moment, because just look at this- the angle, the light, his smile- everything just makes him look ethereal.

At that moment, he's the most beautiful thing we've seen too, all because Wille finds him to be. Combined with Omar's otherworldly singing, it's just *chef's kiss*

The cinematography of that whole montage is out of the world, it's so well thought out.
