A catalog page from the early 1970s (the Marx Knights and Vikings were on the market from 1970-72).
I never had a talking G.I. Joe, but I had the non-vocal twin of the one in the green fatigues. I never really got the appeal of the talking feature.
I also had the Mercury space capsule, but an earlier version released with an original Joe without the lifelike hair (aka indoor/outdoor carpet).
Sadly, my Mercury space capsule - like the vast majority of my toys - fell victim to my younger brothers. They took it in the backyard and attempted to re-create when the real capsules would splashdown on Earth. Except we didn't have a pool at the time, so when they threw it up in the air it smashed-down on the ground, into approximately 3,265 pieces.
As for the knights and Vikings figures, I never saw any the few times I was ever in a toy aisle, and I didn't know anyone who had them.

Okay. I love how this little vintage Marx "Bullet" German shepherd turned out, but I have sworn off customizing any rubber figurine that does not already have smooth seams. You can see what I had to start with as the unpainted one is about the same condition as the painted, and there is just nothing that sands rubber smooth the same way as plastic. Also, trying to fill in those teensy little spaces in the belly and forelegs was maddening.
But--flaws aside--look how cute the little guy is! I love his expression, and the little raised paw, and he's not quite 1 1/2" tall. Definitely going to be a one of a kind piece, as the unpainted one is staying within my very specific "mid-century mass-produced German shepherd figurines and toys" collection. You can give this custom a new home at https://www.etsy.com/listing/1602325960/nicky-custom-black-and-tan-marx-roy

Marx Toys were my favorite as a boy in the 1950s. Most of the play sets cost about $ 5.00 each I remember doing lots of chores to save up money to buy them.

I had several different Fort Apache sets over the years, this was my favorite toy.

The Mighty Vikings - Brave Erik, and his father, Odin the Viking Chieftain - with their mounts.
Produced by Marx Toys (aka Louis Marx and Company) between 1970 and 1972, the figures were part of the Noble Knights and Mighty Vikings line.
These 1/6-scale figures each came with multiple weapons and helmets, and the horses came with an 11-piece saddle-and-tack set. The horses had articulated necks so that they could lower their heads to graze, and small wheels inside their hooves.
Like other Marx 1/6-scale action figures, these were made of solid plastic, so they were relatively heavy. One Viking and his horse together weighed 3 pounds 3 ounces.

Stella is an adorable little German shepherd from Marx Toys’ Blue Ribbon Dogs series from the mid-20th century, just a little too big to be in scale with a Breyer Stablemate. As you can see in the last picture she was sorely in need of a makeover, so I’ve repainted her in a lovely golden tan and black. Although I am quite tempted to keep this one, she is available at https://www.etsy.com/listing/1375816217/stella-custom-marx-black-and-tan-blue - nab her before I change my mind!
