But can we really be sure that the speed of light wasnât different in the past, or perhaps in other parts of the universe? In fact, variable speed of light theories have long been used to try to explain everything from dark energy to gravity itself. Letâs explore how constant this fundamental constant really is. WildC.A.T.s
WILDC.A.T.S #0 JUNE 1993 BY BRANDON CHOI, JIM LEE, BRETT BOOTH, ALEX GARNER, JOE CHIODO, WENDY BROOME, ELLIS GOODSON AND RICK SCHMITZ
This episode acts as a set-up to issue #1, with the origin of Void. Technically you should read it after issue #4 as it contains some spoilers.
SCORE: 7
But do not wait too much to read it, or you will be kind of lost. The issue tries to work as an introduction, but in reality, there is not much established in it. Almost nothing happens. However, it states who are the âheroesâ and who are the âvillainsâ although, not much is known about them, just their names.
Whatâs not to be ignored, though, is Brett Booth and Alex Garner. These days Booth has a very specific style (that is not too different from the one here), but here you could be tricked into thinking this was drawn by Jim Lee. I would define Brett Booth as a âLiefelized Jim Leeâ... but obviously, much better in terms of perspective, and proportions (that Voodoo in the cover though, doesnât look human enough... Which I suppose is correct... but still, should look human). Well that cover is not very good though... since these characters are never together like that in the comic, take it as one of those Avengers movie posters where everyone posed separately.

IT HAS BEEN about a year now since my involvement with the Dozier School For Boys began taking over my world. Kicking off the whirlwind was my need to get my hands on the schoolâs student ledgers. I wonât rehash the entire adventure but what I will say is that it took many frustrating nights online, several emails to the Archivist, the potential of an $600+ bill to get digital copies & finally an 8 hour round trip before Iâd actually have what I wantedâŠWell at least a quarter of what I wanted!
HAVING ABSOLUTELY NO clue what I was looking for, I spent the next several weeks trying to organize what I had. Almost immediately number of very distinct patterns began jumping out at me. The same sentencing judges over & over again, the SAME sentence length OR lack there of & a crap load of blank spaces; Specifically under the âWHEN/HOW RELEASEDâ columns. One would expect that any institution handling children would be required to keep detailed & accurate records of ALL of its charges, especially when it comes to their last known whereabouts BUT that would make too much sense, now wouldnât itâŠ
THE INFO THAT I had gotten was only from the latest volume of the ledgers & didnât even make a dent in the number of boys that had been shoved through the doors to be reformed. I knew there were hundreds OR even thousands of names in those books. I maybe had a few hundred at the most. By now, I had gotten used to what I like to call the âHurry Up & Stopâ method of researching. Basically Iâd need specific info, finally get said info ONLY to start looking it over & promptly figure out that I needed additional material OR even worse, Iâd need something entirely different altogether. In this case, I had just assumed that Iâd eventually be making another trip to the Archives; That is until I ended up becoming involved with Bob Straley & taking over his websiteâŠAnd right there on one of the site pages was a link to the detailed, handwritten notes that WHB Mr. Andrew Puel had spent hours putting together.
Mr. Andrew Puel At The State ArchivesâŠSitting In The EXACT Same Spot That I Did When I Was There!
   NOT IT!!
WHEN I SAW that link, I was beyond thrilled! I was finally going to have something reliable to validate what I had come up with! I had spoken with Andrew at Bob Straleyâs memorial service & knew that any research he had done would be the best & most accurate info that I could possibly get. When the page loaded, it definitely did NOT show what I had been hoping for; In all actuality, it showed nothing but this:
ODDLY THE INFO was missing! I started clicking on some of the other older links on the website & sure enough, there were quite a few that led to nowhere. I donât know why it gone OR where it went, only that itâs not there. I tried not to get to aggravated, thinking that there had to be a hard copy among the thousands of documents that I have. I spent the next several weeks going through EVERY page, folder, digital file, etc. & found nothing. Bob kept everything, so to say I was puzzled that he wouldnât have a copy of something so important was a huge understatement. I did another look through, literally taking out every piece of paper, one by one; Still nothing.
 Well DamnâŠ.
  AN EVENING IN GAINESVILLE
ON A FRIDAY in late February, I made the 3 hour trip to Gaineville. With me was a small black bag filled with what I believed to be the most important material related to the Arthur G Dozier School for Boys. I pulled up to a beautiful home, tucked back in a quiet sub division that was surrounded by forest. Standing outside was a familiar face, Mr. Bryant Middleton. The âWhitehouse Boyâ greeted me with a smile & a brief hug before inviting me inside to meet his wife. Both graciously spent several hours telling their personal story of Dozier & how the WHBâs Organization was founded. They were both lovely people & I was grateful that they had been so willing to meet with me & be as open as they were. When we finally moved into the dining room to look over the things that I had brought, I began pulling things out. I yanked a folder out that had been wedged inside of my over full bag & a stack of papers fell out. The stack was stapled together & folded in half. I picked it up to see what it was & as I unfolded it, my jaw hit the floor!
OHâŠMYâŠGODâŠIt was a hard copy of the list of missing boys! The same list that I had just spent weeks trying to find! The stuff inside of that bag was the stuff that I pulled out & reviewed quite frequently & thereâs absolutely NO way that I would missed that thick stack of ledger pages! I slid the stack across the table, explaining to Bryant why I was a bit stunned at finding them. He thought it was strange as well. Iâm not going to get into the specifics of my time with the Middletons in this post, although I will say that Iâm very fortunate to have met with them. Theyâre great people & they continue to work toward keeping the future from repeating the past.
  WHERE COULD THEY BE?
OF COURSE THERE is minimal info on the boys on this list. What is known is that most were listed as escaped but never recovered. A lot lacked permanent homes OR guardians, so there wouldnât have been any concerned parents wondering about the whereabouts of their lost boy. It should also be noted that the last place they were seen was the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna. That leaves so many unanswered questions; Could ALL 185 boys on that list have actually successfully escaped & moved on to a better life? Even if that did happen, would it be possible that NOT 1 single child ever be heard from again? I suppose it could be possible for some BUT for All 185? I seriously have my doubts & given the history of Dozier, Iâd say thatâs highly unlikely. Especially considering the significant proof of other burial sites on the schoolâs 1200+ acres.Whether or not they continued life after Dozier OR their lives were taken at the school, they each deserve to be recognized. Iâll let them speak for themselvesâŠ.

Families Without Love Ones During The Holidays Over Killings By US Police Eric Garner, 43, died in July 2014 in New York City after a white officer placed him in a chokehold when Garner, who was Black, refused to be handcuffed for allegedly selling loose, untaxed cigarettes. A Staten Island grand jury declined to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo in December of that year. The Justice Department said in 2019 that it wouldnât file civil rights charges after a yearslong investigation. Michael Brown, 18, was fatally shot by a white officer, Darren Wilson, in 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri, touching off weeks of sometimes violent protests. A St. Louis County grand jury declined later that year to indict Wilson in the unarmed Black teenâs death, and the U.S. Department of Justice later also declined to charge him. Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke shot 16 times at Laquan McDonald, killing the Black 17-year-old as he walked away from officers in October 2014. Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder the same day the city released the shocking dashcam video of the shooting. Van Dyke was found guilty of second-degree murder in 2018 and sentenced to nearly seven years in prison. Tamir Rice, 12, was fatally shot by a white Cleveland police officer in November 2014 after officers responded to a 911 call from a man drinking beer and waiting for a bus who said a âguyâ was pointing a gun at people. A grand jury in December 2015 declined to indict patrolman Timothy Loehmann, who fired the fatal shot, and training officer Frank Garmback. The U.S. Justice Department announced last year that it would not bring federal criminal charges, saying the quality of video of the shooting was too poor for prosecutors to establish what had happened. And the list goes on⊠Walter Scott Freddie Gray Philando Castile Breonna Taylor Justine Ruszczyk Damond Jordan Edwards Daunte Wright Rayshard Brooks Casey Goodson Jr. Andre Hill Manuel Ellis George Floyd⊠And countless others. Police killings, other racial injustice cases pending in US
AHMAUD ARBERY
Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man, was chased and fatally shot by three white men who spotted him running in their Georgia neighborhood on Feb. 23, 2020. Glynn County police were widely criticized for making no arrests. Charges didnât come until the state took over the case more than two months later. Jury selection for the three men, charged with malice murder and other counts, is scheduled in October, and federal authorities have charged the men with hate crimes.
ANDREW BROWN JR.
Brown, 42, who was Black, was fatally shot in April by sheriffâs deputies in Elizabeth City, N.C. They were serving drug-related warrants at Brownâs home when they surrounded Brownâs car; he backed up and moved forward before several shots were fired at and into his vehicle. Attorneys for Brownâs family say he was trying to get away, while authorities have said he was using his car as a weapon. The deputies were cleared by a prosecutor who agreed with authorities. An FBI probe is ongoing.
MAâKHIA BRYANT
Bryant, 16, who was Black, was shot four times in April by a white Columbus, Ohio, police officer as she swung a knife at a young woman. Police were responding to a 911 call from Bryantâs foster home about a group of girls threatening to stab members of the household. Bryantâs family has said the teen and her younger sister were the ones who called for help. The cityâs mayor invited the Justice Department soon afterward to review the police department for any possible racial disparities.
DAUNTE WRIGHT
Wright, 20, who was Black, was shot during a traffic stop in April in a Minneapolis suburb in the midst of the Chauvin trial. A white police officer, 26-year veteran Kim Potter, is charged with manslaughter. Body camera video shows Wright attempting to pull away from officers, and Potter shouting âTaser! Taser! Taser!â just before shooting Wright. The cityâs police chief said he believed Potter mixed up her Taser with her handgun; both he and Potter resigned two days after the shooting. Wrightâs family and activists have rejected the Taser explanation and called for more serious charges.
ADAM TOLEDO
Toledo, a 13-year-old who was Latino, was fatally shot in March by a white police officer in Chicago. Body camera video shows the teen appearing to drop a handgun less than a second before the officer fired his gun. A civilian police accountability board hasnât yet made a recommendation on whether the officer should be charged.
ANTHONY ALVAREZ
Alvarez, a 22-year-old Latino man, died March 31 after being shot by a Chicago police officer during a foot chase. Police said Alvarez brandished a gun while being chased. Body camera video showed Alvarez had his back turned and appeared to be holding a gun when Officer Evan Solano fatally shot him. The cityâs independent police review board recommended that the officer be stripped of his police powers until an investigation concludes.
RONALD GREENE
Greene, a 49-year-old Black man, died in 2019 in Louisiana in the custody of state troopers, but his case drew new attention in May after The Associated Press obtained and published body camera video of his arrest that appeared to contradict at least one trooperâs statement. The trooper said Greene was a threat even after restrained and that his behavior was the reason troopers used force. The video shows troopers stunning, beating and choking Greene after a car chase. He also was placed facedown on the ground for more than nine minutes while restrained. Activists have called for the troopers to be fired and charged with crimes.
MARVIN SCOTT III
Scott, a 26-year-old Black man , died in March while struggling with detention officers at a Texas jail. Scott was arrested at a mall on a charge of marijuana possession, then taken to a hospital because he was reportedly acting erratically. After he was released, he was taken to the Collin County jail, where he exhibited what the sheriff called âsome strange behavior.â Jailers put him on a restraint bed, used pepper spray and covered his face with a spit mask. He eventually became unresponsive and died of what the medical examinerâs office called âfatal acute stress responseâ during restraint struggle with law enforcement. Seven jailers were fired and one resigned. Scottâs family called for their arrest. A grand jury in June declined to indict the jailers but called for a work group to study Scottâs death.
LINDANI MYENI
Myeni, a 29-year-old Black man, was fatally shot by Honolulu police in April after they responded to a 911 call. Tourists staying at a home called police after a stranger â Myeni â walked into the home and acted oddly, according to their attorney. Police said Myeni violently attacked responding officers, leaving one with a concussion, and released clips of body camera video showing him ignoring commands to get on the ground and being unaffected by a stun gun. Myeniâs widow has filed a wrongful death lawsuit saying he likely mistook the home for a temple next door.
WINSTON SMITH JR.
Winston Boogie Smith Jr., a 32-year-old Black man, was fatally shot in a Minneapolis parking ramp by members of a U.S. Marshals Service task force. Authorities said they were trying to arrest Smith on a weapons violation and that he showed a handgun. The state investigative agency said evidence shows Smith fired the gun. A woman with Smith said through attorneys that she never saw a gun on Smith or in his vehicle. The two sheriffâs deputies who shot Smith werenât wearing body cameras, saying the Marshals Service told them they could not. The lack of video in the city where George Floyd died contributed to anger over Smithâs death, sparking several days of protests.
DANIEL PRUDE
Prude, a 41-year-old Black man, died in Rochester, New York, in March 2020, several days after encountering police after he was released from a hospital following a mental health arrest. He ran naked from his brotherâs home and was seen breaking store windows; his brother Joe testified that he warned an officer who came to his home not to kill his brother. His death drew new attention six months later when his family released body camera video obtained through a public records request that showed Prude handcuffed and naked with a spit hood over his head as one officer pushed his face against the ground and another pressed a knee to his back. The officers held Prude down for about two minutes until he stopped breathing. A gran d jury declined to indict any officers in February. An internal investigation may still result in disciplinary charges.
ANDRE HILL
Hill, a 47-year-old Black man, was visiting a family friend when he was fatally shot by a white police officer in Columbus, Ohio, in December as he emerged from a garage holding a cell phone. Officer Adam Coy was fired and has pleaded not guilty to murder and reckless homicide charges. The police chief was forced out and the city agreed to pay a $10 million settlement to Hillâs family.
CASEY GOODSON JR.
Goodson, a 23-year-old Black man, was shot in the back five times by a white sheriffâs deputy in Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 4. The deputy, Jason Meade, was working for a U.S. Marshals Office task force and just finishing a search for a fugitive when he shot Goodson, who was not the subject of the search. U.S. Marshal Peter Tobin first said Goodson drove past the deputy and waved a gun, then withdrew the comments as based on âinsufficient information.â Relatives said Goodson was opening the door to his grandmotherâs house when he was shot. Two special prosecutors were appointed in June to examine the case.
RAYSHARD BROOKS
Brooks, a 27-year-old Black man, fell asleep in his car in the drive-thru lane of a Wendyâs restaurant in Atlanta in June 2020. Police body camera video showed him struggling with two white officers who told him heâd had too much to drink to drive and tried to arrest him. Brooks grabbed a Taser from one of the officers and fled, firing it at Officer Garrett Rolfe as he ran. Rolfe fired his gun, hitting Brooks twice in the back. Rolfe is charged with murder and was fired after the shooting, though that dismissal was reversed on the grounds the city hadnât followed its procedures.
MANUEL ELLIS
Ellis, a 33-year-old Black man, died March 3, 2020 after he pleaded for breath under an officerâs knee in Tacoma, Washington. Ellis was Tasered, handcuffed and hogtied, with his face covered by a spit hood. A medical examiner said he died from lack of oxygen caused by restraint, with an enlarged heart and methamphetamine intoxication as contributing factors. Tacoma police officers Christopher Burbank and Matthew Collins are charged with second-degree murder after witnesses reported they started beating Ellis without provocation. The officers say he attacked them. A third officer, Timothy Rankine, is charged with first-degree manslaughter for allegedly kneeling on Ellisâ back and shoulder as he repeatedly said he couldnât breathe.

The latest comic book from my friend Ellis Goodson arrived in the mail today. Iâve been looking forward to this for awhile because in this volume Ellis reimagines several short films that Ellis creates. Itâs a continuation of a time when I hung out with a friend and weâve done cool creative stuff, something lacking in my life recently. Ellisâs book is available on Amazon and you can see his films on YouTube. #makecomics #ellisgoodson #okcart #okc #okahomacity #okcfilmmakers #okccomicartist #comicbooks #indycomics #guccilikelucci https://www.instagram.com/p/CFDZqq7hPxi/?igshid=gevnqn5nimif
