Something I find interesting about the Giovanni/Campanella relationship thus far is how Campanella speaks as if he's known Giovanni for a very long time.
For those who don't know, WSS pulled Giovanni and Campanella straight out of the Kenji Miyazawa novella: Night on the Galactic Railroad. In that story, Giovanni and Campanella are estranged childhood friends who happen to reunite on a train going across the Milky Way. However, at this present moment in time, I doubt that our Giovanni and Campanella have met before. (Especially because WSS have gone out of their way to subvert Night on the Galactic Railroad, but thats a topic for another post.)
Rather than a past connection, I think Campanella's interest in Giovanni may be an extension of his admiration for Ihatov. Though, a lot of dialogue in Episode One alludes to Campanella having a parasocial attachment to Giovanni. He seems to have been paying attention to him for a while:
I don't have much to say about this as of present except for what it says about Campanella. The world of BHE has embraced constant survelliance. The eyes of Karellen are the eyes of society. No one knows this better than Campanella, whose high human-score has turned him into a celebrity in the strange pseudo-society that is Prima Zeus Galactic Academy. Perhaps its so normal for him that he has no problem turning this behavior onto Giovanni? Or maybe he gets some kind of catharsis from being the spectator instead of the spectacle?

Boyhood’s End launches in Early Access on September 6 - Gematsu
From Gematsu
Episodic science-fiction horror adventure game Boyhood’s End will launch in Early Access for PC via Steam on September 6, publishers WSS playground and PLAYISM, and developer Bukiri Clock announced.
The Early Access version of the game features about 20 percent of the full story. The game is planned to have five chapters, with each chapter releasing one-by-one during Early Access. Once the story is complete, final adjustments will be made based on conversations with the community and a full version will be released. The Early Access period will last for around 10 months.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
When does childhood end? Both humans and the inhuman will find the answer at the end of a cycle of fight and flight. Solve puzzles and explore the world, depicted in hand-drawn pixel art. Watch beautifully animated conversations between the main characters. Join a young boy on his adventure and experience his story set in a hardcore sci-fi world. Boyhood’s End is a juvenile science fiction horror adventure game, in which the world is ruled by a mechanical overlord “R. Karellen.” Every aspect of every person’s life is rated with a “human score,” and R. Karellen decides everything from academic and professional careers, romantic interests, to one’s daily meals. The protagonist, Giovanni, has the lowest human score among the entire human race. Every day, he receives “special treatment” for everything including his meals and classes. On top of that, he gets bullied relentlessly by his classmates at the School, both in real life and online. But one day, everything and everyone in the school starts attacking Giovanni, trying to “remake” him and raise his human score by making him “more human.” A senior student, the famously eccentric genius Campanella, reaches out to Giovanni, and they hop onto (and take over) a driverless train on the galactic railroad. And so, Giovanni gets swept up in a journey to find the “Crimson Southern Cross,” located at the farthest edge of the universe. On their journey, the boys will meet great leaders of the past and pull reckless and destructive “pranks” on them all. Through their encounters with the history, twisted mysteries, and various horrors of the world, they will eventually have to confront the end of their own childhood. Oh, did you hear that? The boys are (pointlessly) sounding the train whistle. Looks like it’s time for the galactic express to depart.
Characters
-Giovanni
“Shut up! I couldn’t care less about your twisted logic, but here’s the thing, I’m a human! And you’d better start treating me like one!”
Has a wanted criminal as a father and the lowest human score in the universe. Gets treated like trash by other people and even the system itself. Has a cynical personality and a sharp tongue, but has a soft spot for his family. Always has to earn money to pay his sister’s hospital fees. Although he lives in an age where humans haven’t had to write programs by themselves for generations, Giovanni knows the ancient craftsman technique of writing his own code from scratch. He frequently uses his coding skills to do shady side gigs on the dark web.
-Campanella
“Come on, show me! Show me the true potential of humanity! Show me something unpredictable, something that could ruin the world as we know it—something a man-made thing could never do!”
Has the highest human score in the Gymnasium, and very talented in everything from academics to sports, but also has the highest total score deduction in the Gymnasium due to his frequent eccentric behavior. Talk about extreme. Campanella holds “humans” in high regard, and acts arrogantly around the inhuman and artificially intelligent R. However, many claim to have seen him chatting and playing around with R for no reason in particular.

Since Boyhood's End is so chock-full of literary references, I'm having a hard time deciding if this section title in the chapters menu is meant to be a reference to the James Baldwin novel, Giovanni's Room, or if its just a coincidence.
Compared to the other texts Boyhood's End references, Giovanni's Room seems pretty out-of-place. Thus far, Boyhood's End has referenced sci-fi stories like Childhood's End; I, Robot; and 1984. Alongside coming-of-age stories like Night on the Galactic Railroad, and Demian. (Plus more I've probably missed.) Giovanni's Room is a literary novel about a bisexual man who feels torn between the "straight" and "gay" worlds. If the reference is intentional, I could see WSS recontextualising the iconography of Giovanni's Room to service their exploration of the division between organic and artificial worlds.
Another reason I'm interested in the possibility of this reference is because (1) I like intertextuality. But I'm also curious about what an intentional reference to Giovanni's Room could imply about the relationship between Giovanni and Campanella. Suppose I'll just have to wait and see.
#tldr: lured you in with lit discussion for my giocampa agenda#do we even have a ship name yet? gionella? campavanni? vannella?#i like vannella#boyhood’s end#bhe game#vannella

Boyhood’s End Episode 1 delayed to spring 2024
Gematsu Source
Publishers WSS playground and PLAYISM, and developer Bukiri Clock have delayed the first episode of episodic science-fiction horror adventure game Boyhood’s End from its previously planned fall 2023 release window to spring. It will be available for PC via Steam.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:

My brain was cooking so badly last night. It was crazy enough that I guessed everything right about bhe with my bf and istg it was so crazy to us to the point we went "if we make up more theories then I hope at least ONE theory gets proven wrong"
Anyways here's some theories that got proven right (!!spoilers up ahead!!):
• campanella hates karellen and the point system
• campanella is jealous of giovanni (we literally rpd something similar to the scene in the game it was so fucking crazy wtf)
There are probably more that I am forgetting but I just woke up so uh yeha.
Theories that my bf and I were cooking after chapter 1 (!!again spoiler warning!!):
• campanella probably has rich parents that let robots control everything so he has no freedom (shootout to @sekaiaii for cooking that btw)
•Phil adopted zanelli because tosia always took care of him and he wanted revenge or smth but then actually started caring a lot about his new son. (I'll be honest it would be wholesome af to see Phil being a good dad to zanelli at least in the past since yknow what campanella did to that man. Haha sorry zanelli you are fatherless again...)
• Phil doesn't like tosia and is kinda behind a lot of shit that happened (this was a joke theory but I'll add it here just incase, rin (my bf) and I were joking about how Phil probably wanted ihatov so bad so uh yeah it's a joke!)
• giovanni changes the teachR thing and one day decided he wanted to put Dave there for his own comfort and everyone just went with it and liked that idea. (Again wholesome but tbh we need that bhe mentally messes with us)
• zanelli saw tosia as a mom since his biological parents did not like him. So once he finds out what happened to tosia even he will be hurt from the news.
I think that's all for now. If any bhe fans actually see this and have theories lmk I love theories and people who invest themselves into a game lore like I do ^^
