The philanthropist and billionaire Mortimer Zuckerman cut off millions of dollars in funding to Columbia University citing the school's failure to address rising anti-Semitism, the Washington Free Beacon has learned. Zuckerman pledged $200 million in 2012 to endow an institute focused on interdisciplinary neuroscience research. But the billionaire owner of U.S. News & World Report began questioning Columbia's handling of rampant campus anti-Semitism following Hamas's Oct. 7 attacks on Israel and ultimately halted funding after several months of discussions, according to a Zuckerman Family Office spokeswoman.FreeBeacon
"The recent decisions and actions taken by Columbia have been antithetical to the University's mission and it is simply not the same institution it was when Mr. Zuckerman made the pledge," the spokeswoman told the Free Beacon. "We will continue to evaluate the situation in the hope that Columbia will restore its reputation, standing and mission as a respected educational institution."
Zuckerman founded Boston Properties, a real estate investment trust, and ran it for nearly 50 years before stepping down as chairman in 2016. In addition to U.S. News & World Report, where he serves as editor in chief and publisher, Zuckerman also owned the New York Daily News for 24 years until he sold it in 2017.
The son of Ukrainian Jewish immigrants, Zuckerman has consistently donated to a variety of Jewish and pro-Israel causes. In 2016, for example, he launched a $100 million STEM initiative to provide scholarships for American and Israeli researchers, with the goal of fostering scientific collaboration between the United States and Israel.
For months, Zuckerman engaged in conversations with Columbia, raising concerns about the school's governance and handling of campus anti-Semitism following Oct. 7, the Zuckerman Family Office spokeswoman told the Free Beacon. Columbia, in response, requested time to "rebuild trust and demonstrate better governance."
But that rebuilding failed to take shape, prompting Zuckerman, a media and real estate mogul, to pause millions in funding. Columbia had become the forefront of campus anti-Semitism, with protesters eventually storming Hamilton Hall and barricading its entrance. In-person classes and the main graduation ceremony were canceled.

more post session brainworms of the cowboy, things have not in fact gotten better and he's in fact more tired then he's ever been every single week <3 now with added trauma triggering!
Virgil Lawrence | He/Him | 212 Years Old | Ex-Sabbat Brujah Vampire
Session/Image Context below:
finally got his coterie mate's crazy tremere ex dead and gone, and then had to listen to a baby sabbat brujah's entire life and family collapse around her. also he got a new knife for free (by being stabbed)!
PoV you're the Boston Prince (who totally deserved this) and have been in office 100 years after your predecessor was also killed by being thrown off a building by the same cowboy.
PoV you're a coterie member who pissed off the already EXTREMELY on edge and furious brujah by rebuking his attempts to suicide bait you and he just drew his 10+ pool revolver.
damn hard to stay keeping it together when you see and hear the ghosts of your kindred loved ones all around you all the time and in the words spoken by those around you, without anyone meaning to do it

I just love that we all collectively agree (especially in your AUs) that Pen is the type of person that WILL commit a felony when she's bored lmao. Its probably half the reason why Colin can't leave her for more than half an hour cause he knows when he comes back Pen is halfway finish with her illegal activities (of course the other reason is that Colin goes batshit feral when Pen's more than 5 steps away from him.) I just love morally ambiguous Pen
It's always the quiet ones.
Penelope made a lot of interesting contacts during her time as Lady Whistledown. For example, there's Dr. Cullen, Mrs. Cullen, and their lover Inspector Swan. She also knows Gen of course, several paper boys, and publishers of high and low reputation. The hack drivers and servants she has interacted with in the past have found her friendly. She finds the friends she made through Gen, such as the courtesanas, to be such lovely people.
Colin finds out quickly in their marriage that he rather be his wife's accomplice so he can do damage control than have no idea what she got up to this time. It's partly why he was so invested in getting back to her when he left with his brothers to track down Eloise. He missed his wife, but he also knew damn well Penelope was getting up to something back home.
And he was right. Penelope needed a distraction back in London, so she started to gather all the tea she could find over several days. Then she and Kate (who is always down to get any English tea out of her house) did a miniature reenactment of the Boston Tea Party. In the early morning, when no one would see them, they threw it into the Thames. They proceeded to promenade later in the day to see everyone's reaction.
When Colin heard the story after he came back, he immediately knew what wife was up to when he was gone.
He doesn't know if he's madder at the act itself or that his wife wasted food.
Penelope rolls her eyes at him and says, "I got the good tea from Kate and Ms. Kazan."
"Is Ms. Kazan the pharmacist wife?" Colin asks after thinking for a moment.
"No, Ms. Kazan runs the black market apothecaries."

"this nation was built on peaceful protest" we dunked living cops in boiling tar and then covered them in chicken feathers so that when they tried to remove any part of it (tar or feathers) skin would get pealed up with it. nothing about the us was built on peaceful protests, Former President Barack Obama??

“These days, he lived in a tiny room above the St. Agnes rectory. The entire place had been built in the late seventeenth century and looked it."
ooohhh m*ggie why would you do this to me. not only is the oldest Catholic church in Virginia is from 1795, the late eighteenth century, but the colony of Virginia was founded by Anglicans with no0o0o0 interest in religious plurality until compelled by, like, the first amendment. idk about virginia but there's still cultural differences between catholic and protestant communities in MA (especially irish catholic and protestants!) which might have been really interesting to explore in lynch family mythology, assimilation, etc... but no.
Virginia has fewer than twenty extant pre-1700 structures, all in the eastern part of the state. Even if the structure were that old -- say, a first-period Protestant church later converted to a Catholic one; not common but not unthinkable, if not accurate to this setting -- any extant seventeenth-century structure would be listed as an historic property, probably as a national historic landmark, almost certainly maintained to a decent standard by a nonprofit trust and board. and not really on the market for a broke seventeen-year-old to rent out.
i truly love st. agnes as a setting but the only info she gives us about it RIPS me right out of there. move the setting for the whole series to massachusetts and we're good to go tho!
