Guys. GUYS. listen to me- kate carter is a natural brunette. no i’m not just saying that because daisy edgar jones has brown hair naturally, there’s a picture of young kate and her mom that is shown in the scene where she comes back home. I caught it on my second rewatch. I mean ofc you could chalk up her darker roots to it just being a dirty blonde but no, she really is a brunette.

Which brings me to this thought- I wonder what Tyler’s reaction (along with the others ofc) would be when they see Kate with brown hair. Let’s say her blonde dye was growing out enough for her to decide to dye it back. Maybe she does it when she went back to NY for a bit before going back to Oklahoma. Will there be chaos? Definitely. Will Tyler Owens get a heart attack? Duh. Like, imagine the possibilities guys, hellooo

Realistically speaking though how did Boone pull Carla? He knew her pretty well, but it sounds like he’s always been pretty taciturn. What if she wasn’t in love with him but the idea of him? What if he falls in love with the Courier bc they actually want to dive into his past and motivations and hopes instead of floating over them like the beautiful dreamboat that Carla was?

It's an interesting idea but I hate it. I'm a huge fan of my second husband's first wife!

Seriously, Carla and Boone are presented as being absolutely head over heels for each other. Boone traces his issues solely back to Bitter Springs, but people who know him say he was a totally different man before he lost Carla. He's still in the early stages of his grief (it's no more than a year since he killed her, and probably a hell of a lot less considering some townsfolk haven't noticed she's gone!)

Boone implies that he felt understood by Carla. The only distance between them was that he didn't want to tell her about Bitter Springs because he didn't want her to hate him for it. Which says both that she admired him and that he thought she was fundamentally honest and good. Totally crazy about each other. Andy makes it sound almost sickening!

I've invented exes for Boone including at least 2 who just want a big strong handsome first recon sniper who can transition quickly and neatly from spending out on her on the Strip when he's on leave to dying and leaving her with a nice pension lmao. But I just don't see Carla like that at all. Frankly, she could have done better. Everyone describes her as just about the most beautiful woman they ever saw. She hated Novac, but she followed Boone there because she loved him. They were talking about baby names :(

The big contrast between Carla and the Courier that I'm interested in and that applies pretty much however you conceive of your Courier is that she's a force of nature. She got jumped in the middle of the Mojave, buried and left for dead, and it didn't stop her basically conquering it. Maybe she's someone Boone can leave alone for 5 minutes without visions of her being abducted by Legion. But even once he gets over thinking that anyone he loves will be punished for his sins, he's going to be permanently aware of just how fragile everything is, even if his lover is someone no-one would describe as fragile

Craig Boone headcanons bc we are lacking in them

I figured I'd share my Craig Boone headcanons because there aren't enough of them lol. Content warning for alcohol abuse. Some of them are sort of Manny + Boone headcanons.

Boone was born on a farming town but comes from a generation of military men - had an N.C.R. veteran for a dad who definitely pushed the idea of service on his son

He enlisted only days after he turned eighteen - it felt like his purpose. The only reason he didn't stay was the impact Bitter Springs had on him. He often wonders if, in another life, he would have been N.C.R. for life and ended up as some big shot general.

Boone has never been the sharpest tool in the shed. He didn't learn to read until he joined the army, where they put him in a program during basic training. When he wrote letters back home, his family was very impressed - his father was the only literate person, and hadn't had the time or motivation to teach his children.

He can't do basic math. If you asked him to add double digits, he couldn't.

He and Manny were fast friends only because they were complete opposites - Boone had been introverted his whole life; he kind of just stuck with family and that was it. But Manny was very talkative, and very open, especially about his time with the Khans and some of the more morally dubious things he'd done. He never seemed embarrassed, or ashamed, and had a very optimistic look on life. Boone admired it.

Boone knew Manny was gay, and knew Manny was into him. It never bothered him, and it was strictly unspoken. However, things did get more difficult when Carla came into the picture; Manny, with any crush, sort of felt secure in Boone not being in a relationship, and took out his heartbreak on Boone's wife.

Manny criticized everything about Boone's relationship with Carla. He was betraying his class, they got married too quick, that Carla tricked him into getting her pregnant...

Carla was his first real girlfriend. He partied on the strip as much as all the other soldiers, spent nights with Gomorrah girls, and had small town romances back home. But he'd never actually truly had feelings for some one.

Boone is definitely a heavy drinker, always has been. It was easier when he was in service but there were some wild nights on the strip. He used to get drunk to party, and loosen up. There was a long point in time where he stopped drinking, for Carla, but after she died, he drank to forget, and drank dangerously.

All of Carla's things are untouched; dresses, jewellery, a cup she left on the dresser with a lipstick stain on it, her toothbrush. The baby things, he did throw out though. He couldn't bear to look at them.

This is more of a Boone/Courier HC but... if Boone were to develop an intimate relationship with the courier, or that matter, there would be a lot of upfront fantasies about having a family with them, not necessarily sexual ones, but simply in the sense of wondering. What would the baby room look like? How would he help out with the kid? Would they have a boy or a girl? The day he found out he and Carla were having a baby it was one of the happiest moments of his life, yet it was torn away from him in the blink of an eye.

A comprehensive list of my active muse's shower habits:

DEVIL: 25 minutes. 5 is spent washing. 5 is spent on haircare. 10 on self love. 5 on staring down the drain and debating death. Top shelf products. Scent bomb.

HANCOCK: 10 minutes, but it's spent luxuriating. He checks himself out the whole time. Writes speeches. 14 in 1 product kind of guy. Listens to lo-fi. Primary handcock personal time.

COOPER: what shower?

BOONE: 15 minutes. Listens to extremely loud music so nobody can hear him quietly cursing himself out for saying a stupid thing 13 years ago that he just remembered. Moisturizing is for people who love themselves. Head n shoulders all day.

GARRUS: Tactically efficient 4 minutes. Washes at the speed of sound. No singing, talking, or thinking. Products that get the job done but don't pamper. True luxuriating is doing some stretches.

ODELIA: 40 minutes. debates theory with imaginary people that she assigns elaborate identities to. It's a real spectacle. Forgets to wash often, so will have to take a second shower that's closer to 10 minutes. Flowery local organic products only.

ELEZAR: Hour and change. No less than 6 products used, all either homemade or expensive organic stuff. Shower melts, body wash, scrub, moisturizer, two conditioners, exfoliating organic loofah. He doesn't waste a second. This is HIM time. Listens to podcasts during.

Jame is half Taiwanese, Chae-Yeong is a quarter Korean, Himeko and Sara are Japanese, Boone is half Filipino, and Xianyun and Yanfei are Chinese!

Useless Headcanon of the Day:

Due to Alexandre's reign being a PR nightmare, once Vlasily ascended to the throne, Navka agreed that it was probably best to distance themselves from him. So they removed his name from the family tree. They're not denying his existence. More like disowning him. Post mortem. Unfortunately, this applies to his kids as well. So Dmitri and Lazuli have no legitimate political power. Their blood will only be considered for the throne if everyone else has died. They are still permitted to stay in the castle and be called royalty due to the mercy of Vlasily (and Lazuli's influence over the people). But they are prince and princess in name only. However, they still have unofficial influence over the Volodymyrr due to their amicable relationships with the royals. (Some of the Navkan nobles do wish to exile Dmitri. But doing so would anger Lazuli and she has too many pieces for them to risk losing.)
