The last two weeks flew by. My kids went back to school this week; they are attending the same school for the first time since elementary school, my own dear mother, that school, and I am relieved, if only temporarily from driving duties. We are making pizzas in an hour or two to celebrate the first Friday of their school year (we make pizzas every Friday as a nifty fridge clearing activity, but…

no but really, I think it fits him really well! I had thought his UM would probably involve something kinda sleight-of-handy or pickpockety! and I looooved that it made such a nice loop-around back to episode 1. ❤️ I was. kind of half-expecting him to just run out and punch Riddle in the nose again. but instead this time 'twas he who offed the queen's head! it was great! and he did it while stone-cold terrified out of his mind! because Ace is the only remotely normal or well-adjusted person at NRC and therefore the only one who is like "we're going to literally die, this is super effed up". but he did it anyway!!!! I AM SO PROUD

i just don’t get how people can think bluesey is boring in trc… like are were we reading the same books???

i love love love pynch, but theres something so special and electric about blue and gansey in the series. the angst, the yearning, the feeling of ganseys death and blues curse looming over them.

they have such iconic banter, “i wish you could be kissed jane”, THE ENTIRE GODDAMN TOGA SCENE, him wrapping her in his coat, “she makes me quiet”

adam and ronan always get more credit because they have more build-up, but the fact that blue and gansey aren’t slow-burn makes them so interesting because that they want each other so bad and know it, but its just their fate that’s stopping them. every single scene had me on the edge of my seat!!

like you can’t have the raven cycle without bluesey they really are the couple!!

Riff on some Friends of the Library Sale acquisitions

I ducked out of work maybe a little bit early on Friday and filled a brown paper bag with books at a Friends of the Library sale. I picked up some hardback first editions of books I already own in cheaper formats–Lucia Berlin’s A Manual for Cleaning Women, Denis Johnson’s The Laughing Monsters, P.D. James’s The Children of Men, and Ben Marcus’s Leaving the Sea. I also got hardcover editions…

what do you think about han kang winning the Nobel prize?!!

hi ! from a literary/political point of view really happy about it, both in terms of what it means for a south korean writer to win the nobel and for a south korean feminist to win it in the context of the recent backlash / rise of violence against women in south korea. also I haven’t read human acts but am so curious about this book + saw someone on twitter celebrating that the nobel went to a writer whose major work asks the question “how do you live in a world where the state can just murder an unaccountable number of people and then nothing changes how can you live” and I think it’s a powerful message in the midst of what is currently happening in palestine and lebanon but also really everywhere in the world. however.....from a personal point of view I’ve only read the vegetarian which I did not like although I do think it was an issue of translation (it felt so clunky and afterwards I read several articles about deborah smith which reinforced my feelings on the matter). I want to reread the vegetarian and her other works (especially human acts) in their french translation (co-translated by a french-korean woman which gives me hope for a more faithful translation) and hopefully that will change my opinion cause it’s SUCH a shame for one bad translation to tarnish a writer’s work

the bad thing about working in a museum is that when i'm at a white elephant meet and I see an album full of old vinyl records from the 1930s-40s i am morally obligated to buy it despite not actually being in possession of a record player
