I just completed My year of rest and relaxation and I think Reva’s story is heartbreaking. She is girlhood personified. She spent the most vital years of her adulthood trying to be accepted, trying to fit in, regarding herself in a deprecating way, and it was all for nothing. Her character exhibits that life is too short to be spent yearning to become the image of what society deems beautiful.

"Unmasking Autism: Discovering the New Faces of Neurodiversity" by Dr. Devon Price, Ph.D.
For every visibly Autistic person you meet, there are countless “masked” Autistic people who pass as neurotypical. Masking is a common coping mechanism in which Autistic people hide their identifiably Autistic traits in order to fit in with societal norms, adopting a superficial personality at the expense of their mental health. This can include suppressing harmless stims, papering over communication challenges by presenting as unassuming and mild-mannered, and forcing themselves into situations that cause severe anxiety, all so they aren’t seen as needy or “odd.” In Unmasking Autism, Dr. Devon Price shares his personal experience with masking and blends history, social science research, prescriptions, and personal profiles to tell a story of neurodivergence that has thus far been dominated by those on the outside looking in. For Dr. Price and many others, Autism is a deep source of uniqueness and beauty. Unfortunately, living in a neurotypical world means it can also be a source of incredible alienation and pain. Most masked Autistic individuals struggle for decades before discovering who they truly are. They are also more likely to be marginalized in terms of race, gender, sexual orientation, class, and other factors, which contributes to their suffering and invisibility. Dr. Price lays the groundwork for unmasking and offers exercises that encourage self-expression, including:
Celebrating special interests
Cultivating Autistic relationships
Reframing Autistic stereotypes
And rediscovering your values
It’s time to honor the needs, diversity, and unique strengths of Autistic people so that they no longer have to mask—and it’s time for greater public assistance and accommodation of difference. In embracing neurodiversity, we can all reap the rewards of nonconformity and learn to live authentically, Autistic and neurotypical people alike.
DEVON PRICE, PhD, is a social psychologist, professor, author, and proud Autistic person. His research has appeared in journals such as the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, and the Journal of Positive Psychology. Devon’s writing has appeared in outlets such as the Financial Times, HuffPost, Slate, Jacobin, Business Insider, LitHub, and on PBS and NPR. He lives in Chicago, where he serves as an assistant professor at Loyola University Chicago’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

Unleashing the Power of Atomic Habits By James Clear ((PDF DOWNLOAD))
Introduction
In the quest for personal growth and lasting success, one name stands out: James Clear. His groundbreaking work, "Atomic Habits," offers a transformative blueprint for achieving our boldest aspirations. In this article, we delve into the core concepts of Clear's masterpiece, exploring how tiny habits can lead to monumental change.
The Fundamentals of Atomic Habits
At the heart of "Atomic Habits" lies a revolutionary idea: small changes, when compounded over time, lead to profound transformations. Clear introduces the concept of "habit stacking," where building upon existing routines makes establishing new habits effortless. This approach capitalizes on the brain's familiarity with established patterns, ensuring consistent progress.
The Four Laws of Behavior Change
Clear outlines four laws that underpin successful habit formation: make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, and make it satisfying. These laws provide a practical framework for reshaping behaviors, allowing individuals to cultivate habits aligned with their goals. By understanding and applying these laws, anyone can pave the way for lasting change.
The Role of Identity in Habit Formation
Intriguingly, Clear emphasizes the role of identity in shaping habits. Rather than focusing solely on what we want to achieve, he encourages us to consider who we wish to become. By aligning our habits with our desired identity, we bridge the gap between intention and action, driving consistent progress towards our aspirations.
Overcoming Plateaus and Achieving Breakthroughs
As we embark on our habit transformation journey, challenges and plateaus are inevitable. Clear offers insightful strategies to navigate these hurdles, emphasizing the importance of tracking progress and making incremental adjustments. His advice empowers us to push through resistance and continue our upward trajectory.
Conclusion: Transforming Your Life, One Atomic Habit at a Time
"Atomic Habits" isn't just a book; it's a guide to unlocking our fullest potential. By harnessing the power of small changes and aligning our habits with our aspirations, we can create a life of purpose, fulfillment, and continuous growth. As James Clear aptly states, "You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems."

"The Viking Art of War" by Paddy Griffith
Of all the warrior cultures in history, few had as fierce a reputation as the Vikings—the mysterious, seafaring Norsemen who ravaged, conquered, and explored lands from Near Asia to the New World. During the early medieval period, nothing could strike as much fear among sedentary peoples as the sight of a Viking fleet suddenly rising over the horizon, their distinctive, dragon-decorated “long ships” intent on delivering mayhem. Yet the actual facts about the Vikings’ era of rampage have been elusive, and their actual method of warfare unclear. Now, this groundbreaking and authoritative study of the Vikings establishes the facts behind their rise to prominence, and cuts away the myths that have built up about their military and seafaring skills, reputation, and exploits. In this book, renowned military historian Paddy Griffith applies modern military thinking to his incisive examination of the Viking art of war while examining their tactics, seamanship, mobility, strategy, concept of battle, and how they exploited their victories and dealt with defeat. He also examines how threatened populations sought to cope with their raiders, and how capricious weather at times wreaked more havoc on Viking fleets than did their human foes. In these pages Griffith demonstrates just how the Vikings were able to establish colonies in hostile territories while confronting an enormously diverse range of enemies—from the Franks of the Carolingian Empire and the Anglo-Saxons to the Volga Bulgars and the wild tribes of Ireland—across three centuries of military conquest, battle, and adventure. Carefully separating historical truth from legend, while closely examining the sometimes fanciful sagas of the Norsemen themselves, this stimulating investigation into the secrets of the Vikings’ success shows how they earned their fearsome reputation throughout the world.
PADDY GRIFFITH was a senior lecturer in War Studies at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for sixteen years, and is the author of numerous books and articles on the history of warfare, including Battle Tactics of the Western Front, 1916-18, The Art of War of Revolutionary France, 1789-1802, and Battle Tactics of the Civil War.
