The Civil War and Cotton (Verse)

What started the Civil War? It is cotton. This is a mallow plant, As is well known, fruit fluff Used as clothing fiber.

in Japan, As one of the raw materials for making paper There is a cotton-like plant called tororo-aoi. "Tororo" means "stickiness". From the fibers of the washi paper It has the effect of delaying the escape of water. In between, the fibers are tightly bound together.

and the paper as a vehicle for declaring war and military trials exert power. Both related to war A sad plant.

If it's just edible, like okra, The mallow family would also be comfortable.

南北戦争の発端となったのが 綿花である。 これはアオイ科の植物で、 周知のように、実の綿毛を 衣服の繊維として利用する。

日本には、 紙を漉く原料の一つとして トロロアオイという綿花そっくりの植物がある。 「トロロ」とは「粘り」のことで、 漉いた和紙の繊維から 水が抜けるのを遅らせる効果がある。 その間に繊維をきつく結合させるのだ。

そして紙は、 宣戦布告や軍事裁判の媒体として 力を発揮する。 どちらも戦争に関連するとは、 悲しい植物だ。

オクラのように、ただ食用になるだけなら、 アオイ科植物も気楽だろうに。

Nothing will dispell the "the curtains were just blue" myth faster than writing something yourself, because the amount of pretentious symbolism i am putting in my silly little fanfics is ridiculous. I mean SO much with these words, literally every single one of them. This fic has twenty five typos and zero correct uses of punctuation but if there's curtains you bet your ass I put thought into what colour they were.

Some illustrations inspired by my favourite pathologic fanfiction ever - Just The Beginning by novaeangliae on ao3. These are not exact scenes from the fic (although heavily inspired!) but more so me trying to capture the amazing vibe of this piece of writing. thinking about Simon who just gets out of prison for murder after he's been locked up since he was 18, and starts working at a slaughterhouse for his parole. a big, scary dog who has bloodstains all over him, permanently crusted in the crease of his nails because he prefers field dressing over dragging the carcass inside the shop. who always smells of iron and sweat, and looms over you like he was trying to keep everyone else from looking at you. possessive, but you only know him from rumours and blog posts. his stare, the intense, hungry way he looks at you always gives you the creeps.

he's bad news. and he tries to woo you by feeding you meat from the animals he butchered (getting angry whenever you buy cuts from someone else), and won't go away even when you tell him to leave you alone. you've heard the rumours. read the news articles. nothing about this man is any good—

but he won't, of course. the thing about prison is that you need to hold onto the things that you have and take the stuff that you don't. a sort of cutthroat survival that has raised him better than his own mother. so, when he finds you (something he doesn't have, but wants), it's just in his nature to take.
