From The Neck Down
This was when I was still in the process of doing a first full scalp epilation, which explains the unregular shadow.
While epilating my scalp was, at that point, still something very new to me, I had already been a long-time user of epilators everywhere else on my body. With the exception of my scalp and brows, there is no body part I haven't epilated for at least ten years.
The first area where I tried not to shave and instead to remove the hair by ripping it out, was my pubic hair. I started with tweezers though (and I would still recommend at least thinning them out this way). My pubes were shaved most of the time already, and at some point, instead of taking the shaver, I ended up tweezing them one by one. Starting from the happy trail and then going down further and further; however, not everything in one session, that would have taken too long. When everything was gone, I kept it up with regular plucking sessions.
While that was really exciting, it took a lot of time, which is why I ended up buying an epilator and trying my luck with that (I had found some information that others had used one on their pubic hair). And it worked pretty well, especially since the hair had been pulled out repeatedly already. I didn't use the epilator on my penis and scrotum, except for very small patches and carefully stretching the skin to avoid any accidents. For beginners, there I'd recommend to take only tweezers.
From there on, it didn't take long for me to try the epilator everywhere below the neck. I'd say I had a normal body hair coverage, maybe just slightly on the sparse side, but the individual hairs were relatively thin, which helped in the process, I believe.
More or less in that order, after the pubic hair, I epilated:
My butt - surprisingly easy, if my memory serves me well, even the crack wasn't very painful (and yes, it is possible to epilate there). From my experience and as a general rule, the more muscle/tissue there is under the skin, the less it should hurt.
The rest of my stomach and my chest - the stomach hurt a little more, but all in all, that was rather uneventful.
(I love having smooth legs)
My thighs and knees - already more painful, the pain varying depending on the side; inner thighs and knees could have hurt most, but it was a long time ago, and compared to the scalp, everything I'm talking about here is pretty harmless anyhow. If my memory serves me well, I also used the tweezers on the knees to get some of the hairs the epilator couldn't.
My calves - don't remember any specific problems there.
My feet - done rather quickly, not that much hair anyway.
(I wouldn't want to miss the skin-on-skin feeling under my arms)
My underarms - I think the pain was bearable under there.
My arms - some problems with the elbows, tweezers needed, just like in the case of the knees.
My hands - mostly ok, except for the upper outer sides that I remember being painful; that's also where most the hair was, and not that much tissue underneath.
(unlike my legs, the arms will be seen by others a lot during summer)
A couple of things that go for all of these places:
Trim before epilating: I sometimes see videos of guys who try out epilating on full length body hair, almost inevitably ending with them giving up after seconds (and screaming). Not a good idea. Instead, I'd trim everything to half a centimetre, sometimes even less, depending on the epilator. That way, the affected area of the skin is a lot smaller, the hairs will all be pulled in a similar direction, and the epilator is less likely to jam.
Find an epilator that works on very short stubble, even 1mm or less: This might depend on what your hair is like, in my case this one worked like a charm:
Later, for maintenance purposes, I added another one that rotates a lot faster. However, the slower speed is much better in the beginning.
And I've always preferred models that use a cord as power supply. No reason to worry that the epilator could run out of battery in the middle of a session.
Ingrown hairs: For me, that was only a problem where my pubes used to be (but not on my genitals). They didn't cause any major infection requiring to see a doctor, and at some point they just disappeared. Lots of people say using some kind of peeling product helps, I mainly just ignored those pimples. After some years, it simply stopped happening, which is probably caused by a lot less hair growing back. I read somewhere that it's precisely the ingrown hairs that are more likely not to grow back, if that's any consolation.
These days, I use three different epilators on my body - my fast one which works very efficiently nearly everywhere for maintenance purposes, the above mentioned model exclusively for my butt crack, and a gentler, curved one for parts of my penis/scrotum. The bits where I don't take the epilator are still cleared up with a pair of tweezers.
Ripping out the entire hairs means that you don't get *stubble*. Instead, the hair that reappears is thinner at first and will only get thicker if you let it grow further. If you don't wait too long with the maintenance, over time maintenance will become a lot faster and almost painless.
I prefer to go over each area twice a week, simply because I want the smooth feel. But even if I waited for a week or more, the regrowth would be so fine that it would be invisible for everyone not specifically looking for it.

I used my epilator today after my shower even though I didn't need to. I usually use it 2-3 weeks.
I think I just wanted to feel something different other than how I've been feeling...😐💖✨️

Story time because I need opinions.😖👉👈
A little while ago I ended up getting waxed by my friend. She finally found some time, and we set it aside to use the thingy we bought in the mystery store. So she came over and it was really fun at first cause we were just hanging out😇
But then it started.
It took forever. It needed to heat up and it was complicated and hot ouch. Then the actual waxing. It was awful and hurt alot; 4 hours of pure agony. (also it was embarassing and omg wow when she was taking charge😖👉👈😖😖😖😳) And to top it all off I was all sticky after she was done with me, and i couldnt wash it off no matter how hard i tried🥺
But after a few days it was amazing. My skin was so smooth and shiny and amazing🤤. And my legss they were so shinyyyy and smooth. I've never felt like that it was a totally new experience. But that was a few weeks ago and now my hair is starting to grow back.😢
I dont wanna wax again because that was awful, so i looked into other options and epilators are a thing i didnt previously know about because this is all new to me👉👈
Should I get an epilator? Was almost gonna get one, based on someone's reccomendation, but didnt click buy on the shopping cart cause im just so nervous😖😖😖👉👈. Is it even worth trying to keep the hair away? It felt so nice when i was smooth but i just dont know :(
Opinions on epilators? Smooth boys? Is it worth it? Advice? Pls help🥺💕
Srry for the long post.

Its open rebellion against the gendered expectation society forced on me for having the chromosomes that grows tits without my consent. Also my legs don't itch like crazy like what regular shaving used to do to them. Same story with my pits, which used to drive me especially nuts - the hair there also got thinner and lighter on its own once I left it alone long enough.
I like my body better when its unshaved.
#I *do* own an epilator and wax strips and possibly have some disposable razors hidden away too in case I ever change my mind#but that hasn't happened yet.#shaving is a sensory issue#when I think about how much it used to itch and hurt as the hair grew back I cringe with my whole body#woke up one day in 2020 and went 'fuck it'#one of the better fuck its I've done

epilators are like little torture devices to me. so much more painful and difficult than i thought. still takes ages and constantly going over the same spot because the pain makes it hard to resist pausing/pulling away. the charge died and it can't be used plugged in so i resorted to plucking out the rest of my hair individually until my back started hurting so bad from the weird position i was in that i had to stop. my skin is so irritated. i think i need more therapy also
#personal#vent#epilator#just a review that no one asked for#i have some skin-related OCD shit going on on top of the sensory issues so i can't stand my own body hair sometimes#think i need laser if i'm ever to feel at Peace or in Control

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐮𝐩 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝.
first level
start with the basics. eat healthier, exercise daily (this can be a 10 minute walk or an hour work out, doesn't matter; just do something) sleep 7-9 hours, shower every day, and clean your space.
second level
journal daily. start simple with talking about your day or writing about your favourite things.
listen to subliminals at night. spotify has a lot of playlists.
meditate with affirmations daily. i listen to thewizardliz's affirmation video while focusing on my breathing and relaxing my body.
speak kind to yourself and others. don't talk down on yourself, try not to judge, remind yourself that it's okay to make mistakes...
read books instead of doomscrolling. replace your social media screentime with reading a book.
make time for the people and things you love. even though you might be really busy with school or work, don't forget to be present. plan trips with your friends, eat dinner with your family, play that instrument that you liked so much, participate in team sports, be creative, etc.
third level
invest in a good skincare & oral care routine. this does not have to be expensive at all. i use the cerave cleanser and moisurizer and exfoliate 2 times a week. if you need to, use more but be careful it aligns with your skintype! brush your teeth two to three times a day, use a tongue scraper, chew gum, go to the dentist/orthodontist, whiten your teeths.
experiment with personal style. this includes hair, fashion, makeup, accessorizing, music, etc... don't follow trends if it's not what you actually like. have fun with it (for example, go shopping with your friends and try on stuff you would never glance at!)
shave your body. i personally use an epilator on my legs and a shaver under my arms. my mama advices me to not shave my arms or on my tummy, but honestly do what you think is best here.
pluck your eyebrows. i only pluck hairs that is going "outside" the shape of my eyebrows and just keep them looking mantained.
keep your nails clean. don't bite and don't get dirt underneath them. you can also polish them but you obviously don't have to.
these things are usually more expensive
get your nails done. in my experience it is around the €40-€80 to get them done in a salon. at home it's way less expensive because you only have to buy the equipment once and can use it for more than one time. i prefer doing them at home!
get an eyelash lift. i have gotten an lift for €35 but i've also seen people paint and lift them for more. it basically just lifts up your eyelashes and makes it look like your wearing mascara 24/7.
fake tan your body. i honestly have never done this, but after research, i found out it isn't damaging to your skin at all. you can buy self tanner at your local drugstore and at tanning salons.

Why should I switch from waxing to epilation? Switching from waxing to epilation offers several benefits: - Longer-lasting Results: Epilation removes hair from the root, leading to smoother skin for weeks, similar to waxing. - More Convenient: Epilation can be done at home with an epilator device, saving you time and money on salon visits.

Routines
(A shorter and modified version of this can be found on IG.)
So how much effort is it to keep everything epilated/tweezed?
(Anyone feeling tired at the thought of tweezing/epilating all hair continuously?)
It’s hard for me to calculate the time I spend on this weekly; however, I’ve got several routines I’ve followed for a long time that help me keeping all those hair follicles in check.
For the body hair, it is a four day cycle. On day one, I remove everything from the feet upwards until the waistline, almost all of it with an epilator, standing in the bathroom. After that, I sit down, switch on a spotlight and take a pair of tweezers to those areas of my crotch that really shouldn’t be worked on mechanically.
On day two, I don’t work on my body.
Day three looks similar to day one, only that I start at the waist and epilate down till I reach the knees. After that, I use another epilator to go deep into the butt crack. At the end, the tweezers hit the crotch again.
On day four, I work on my hands, arms, armpits, chest and everything else until reaching the waist (no hair on my back that I'm aware of). This day is slightly easier than the other two, but at this point I don’t consider any of them a tedious chore. The following day, I start the cycle again.
Due to a variety of (logistical/practical) factors, it happens from time two time that I insert extra „empty“ days into that cycle. Apart from that, most of the body hair I can leave alone for a week or longer without much growing back. It’s only the area I do with the tweezers that shouldn’t be left alone for too long.
(The back of the thighs is one area where regrowth is still going strong.)
As far as scalp and eyebrows are concerned, I’ve more or less settled on epilating them on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. There really isn’t much regrowth then, but I love to heave them totally smooth. I used to also shave first the scalp and then the beard, after which the scalp had a fantastic, glass-like feel to it.
However, I’ve recently discovered that, at this stage, I can reach almost the same degree of smoothness on my head with just the epilator. And, as I have posted before, I’m in the process of trying to tweeze my entire beard (shadow) away, so that area is quite busy right now and undergoes a sequence of epilation sessions and the occasional shave.
Yes, this costs time. However, I can do all of this after work, during a free moment. My morning routine is now considerably shorter compared to the times when I shaved daily before leaving the house. And, by trying to be consistent in following the routines, the individual sessions tend to get easier and easier.
Finally, the knowledge that over time some hair follicles will give up altogether is a huge motivation to keep going, as is the amazing smoothness epilating gives me everywhere. Even when there is regrowth, it comes in the form of very thin, soft hair, and not as coarse stubble, as would be the case with shaving.
