Fasching with König
Because today is Faschingsdienstag, I just had to write something for him on that day! Today is the only day I can post this, afterwards I'll have to wait over a year again! Fasching is an Austrian holiday that is essentially the last day before fasting for 40 days, so people go all out with food and drinks and festivities, they even dress up in costumes! It's not nearly as fancy as what some other countries have, but it's tradition! Besides, who am I to say no to a Krapfen with König!
Mentions of alcohol, but König is Austrian, so what did you expect?
First off, he hates going to the city during that “holiday”, there are far too many people, the crowds are way too big and it’s too loud for his liking as well. The only reason he’s taking you to the city on that day is so you can experience more of Austria with him. At least that’s what he tells you, in reality he just really wants to go eat a Langos or two and drink a few beers. No one would judge him for that on Fasching, there are crazier bastards out there than him. He’s never been a fan of Fasching, not even when he was a kid. The only reason he looked forward to that day was because he could go home from school earlier than usual. But other than that Fasching had always irritated him. He was never one for playing dress up either.
He couldn’t say he was surprised when you came up to him, demanding for the two of you to dress up as something. The most König would do on his own would be to put on a pair of bee feelers on top of his head, but he would never consider putting on a full costume. Not only was there a chance people would stare at him, but he’d feel awkward as well. Besides, which place would actually sell a costume in his size? Not a common one. You’d need to be a bit annoying for him to put on more than just bee feelers. He’s more willing to play dress up with you as long as you put on something as well, though, even if it still wouldn’t be anything too fancy. If he can find one, he might put on a Winnie the Pooh onesie, but only because it’s somewhat comfortable, somewhat warm and because there are weirder people than him out there.
He’d hate seeing the Faschingsumzug, but he’d tolerate it just for you so you can see all the wagons together and comment on all the costumes. The music is far too loud, there are people surrounding him on every side and he still hasn’t had a single drink yet. Tragic. You might wanna hold onto his arm before you’re being swept away by the crowds. Although König usually isn't one for PDA, in this case he’d prefer to keep you close. It keeps him a bit calmer and you’re not getting lost in a city or town you barely know. You can drag him around all you want, though, he’ll comply, even if he might roll his eyes a bit whenever you wanna go take a closer look at some of the other costumes and wagons. However, get ready to be dragged to one of the nearest stands for a few Langos. They’re not amazing, nothing special in the slightest, but they’re not bad either. He’ll pay for them, naturally. You can choose between a regular Langos, a Toast Langos or even a Käsekrainer Langos. König will likely have eaten all three due to his massive appetite, but you’re more than welcome to take a bite out of them as well.
Once it’s finally getting a bit later and the masses are starting to disperse, that’s when König will be a bit less grumpy. He gets to finally go to a bar with you and drink to his heart's content, his highlight of the day. You can drink whatever you want, from soda to Pago, from Spritzer to Jägermeister, he’ll always go for a few beers. While he might seem a bit grumpy at first, once he’s had his first beer he’s a bit more cheerful, König just really hates big crowds. However, he got to spend another day with you, which is all he could ever want. While you’re sitting at the bar he might take out a few Krapfen for the both of you to enjoy as well. Might joke about getting some Heringsschmaus with you the next day, even if you don’t like fish. It’s tradition, it’s part of the Faschingszeit, but that doesn’t mean he’s a big fan of it either. No, he much prefers the Krapfen you can eat during Fasching. Not big on fasting, he loves beer and meat too much to give up either of those things and won’t even do so if you ask him to. He’s a simple man, he knows what he wants and he knows what he likes. You can pry his Schweinsbraten from his cold dead hands, and even then he’d put up a fight.
Although König loves spending time with you, he will be glad once Fasching is over and once you finally voice the thought of going home. He’s tired from all the people and the alcohol makes this situation only slightly better. Even so, despite all of that, he’s looking forward to the next holiday, proper or not, he can spend with you. Due to him having drunk some beers, he’ll likely stay in bed a bit longer the next day. A perfect opportunity to snuggle up to him for a bit. Afterwards you can discuss what you would like to eat together.
#cod#cod x reader#könig#konig#könig x reader#konig x reader#I was so unhappy when I had to go through town today and there was no way through so I had to go around town to get home#I was so incredibly pissed about that#but hey my father made Gulasch today! and he put a blueberry quark strudel in the oven! it was so creamy and good!#so food wise today was amazing for me!#I even wore some cat ears at wok. the other apprentice and me were the only ones who “dressed up” today which was a shame#even though he only wore devil horns and that's it so nothing big either#but there are people who dress up entirely! but you barely see couple's costumes here. I saw none today in all honesty#I saw a lot of ladybugs though! a few bees! piglets! sunflowers!#it's a colorful festival! but a lot of people drink on this day so not a lot of them will be at work tomorrow! good#the only reason König would love this holiday would be because of the beer#you guys don't understand just how much alcohol Austrians drink we're far far above the EU average#the state I live in is far above the Austrian average as well my father told me today#so yeah we drink lots and lots of alcohol. beer for the most part but Spritzer is also really popular. Spritzer is superior though#beer is just disgusting and gross. I've tried it once and it was so bitter. but this is coming from someone who likes Jägermeister haha#I didn't get a Krapfen today though which is so incredibly sad :( Maybe some other time but it won't be a Faschingskrapfen :(

Weed talk: I love when of my favorite strains create a child strain. Case in point, Orange Drizzle, child of Mimosa and Wedding Cake. Or Pebblewreck, child of Trainwreck, Fruity Pebbles, and Girl Scout Cookies. Or Blueberry Pie, child of Blue Dream and Girl Scout Cookies. Or Spritzer, child of Grape Pie, Runtz, and Miracle Alien Cookies. Lots of Polyamory these days.

Their stay at the hotel was... questionable. Cedar rose from their slumber, and, after a quick brush of their teeth, they had their jacket slung over their shoulders, hallway floor creaking below their blue-sneakered feet as they made their way to any hotel's best feature: continental breakfast.
Though the pickings were vast, they would ultimately settle for yogurt, home fries, a blueberry muffin and two strips of bacon. The news feed on the tv overhead was showing an unnervingly familiar scene behind a reporter discussing a fight that had broken out the night before, between local legend Maple Sunbrand and a "malfunctioning" security drone.
"...What could be recovered from the drone footage showed a valiant effort by the legend themselves, to defend an innocent caught at the wrong place at the wrong time," the reporter drones onward.
The dragon's eyes glaze over as they shove another creamy spoonful of fruity, gurty goodness into their waiting gullet. Figures, that other brand-bearer had fashioned themselves a local hero. Had Cedar been that naive, perhaps they could have done the same.
"Batchburg Enterprises has not yet commented on the scuffle, but local first responders did find evidence of a shooting, close by."
Their chewing stops, their ears straightening up. One pierced ear swivels toward the door, where a large figure in black-blocc enters, mask and sunglasses covering any identifying features. Stepping over to the front counter, the figure pulls a phone from black sweatpants and shows the lit screen to the receptionist. She shakes her head and responds to whatever the newcomer showed her in hushed tones.
"Hm," Cedar grunts, keeping a peripheral eye on the new entry. Another strip of bacon is lost to the void of their stomach. Their hood is pulled over their head as they stand quietly, and slip away from the table and down a side hallway.
Fluorescent light buzz overhead, their luminance exposing the dingy carpet below to scrutiny as the Brand-bearer slips out an emergency exit. Alarms blare behind them as they unfurl their wings and take flight.
Tumblr media
A quick Roulette search had very easily pulled up Maple's personal info. Far more easily than Cedar would've liked. It did unfortunately, make it child's play to track down the other dragon. Somewhere below, in the concrete expanse that is Eclipse City was a little soup kitchen feeding those who are down on their luck.
Windows and screens shimmer gold in the morning sunrise, blinding Cedar's poor baby blues as they descend to the asphalt below. Their wings dissipate into static as sneakers hit the ground. Silvery eyes scan the surroundings, and, satisfied, they continue, gaze fixed on Roulette Maps over their phone.
Tumblr media
The atmosphere in the kitchen is lively. Scaled red hands deftly slice any and all ingredients in knife range. The back of the knife slides diced meats and veggies into a hot oiled pan. Spices dance over the quickly heating mixture, the scent of seared flavor overtaking the room with gusto.
"Hey Aspen," Maple calls out. A spritely deer with an antler and a half looks up from their pot. "Can you please pass me the water spritzer?"
Collagen coated fingertips quickly toss a nozzled bottle over to the dragon.
"Anything to keep you from spitting fire into the food again," Aspen snarks back. The projectile is snatched from the air.
"Oh har-dee-har-fuckin'-har," the Sun-bearer snorts. A squirt of water is all it takes for flames to briefly shoot up around the sautéing contents of Maple's pan. They jiggle the pan forward and back a couple times before, with a flick of the wrist, they send sizzling beef, carrots, onions and potatoes into the air, and back into the pan. Another burst of flame punctuates the gesture.
"It was literally the one time," they continue, reaching for the stove's dial. "Extenuating circumstances!"
"I don't think 'getting scouted for the position of a Batchburg executive's personal chef' counts as that in a court of law," the deer retorts.
Their pot of richly scented curry is offered to the dragon, who upends the contents of their pan into the mixture. The curry pot is placed back on their stove, which continues to simmer the delectable dish.
The door to the kitchen creaks open, prompting the pair of pals to swivel their heads. A familiar blue snout pokes in, silvery eyes flicking back and forth. An ear twitches as they step into the room. As they do, Maple's eyes widen, and a grin splits their face in two.
"Oh! Aspen, this is the one I was telling you about!" Their voice lilts up, tail twitching behind them. The deer beside them also stood at attention, their finger poking out toward the blue dragon.
"OH! So YOU'RE the legendary Dick Destroyer!" The ungulate spouts, with just a bit too much glee. Maple chokes on their own laughter, trying (and failing) to stifle a snort behind a hand. Cedar bristles at their crass new title.
"I SAID I WAS SORRY, GODS DAMNIT!" the Moon-bearer protests. They cross their arms in defiance and look away from the jovial jesters with a huff. If they knew they'd be dealing with a pair of veritable children, they might have re-thought this whole arrangement... is what they'd say had they not had so many questions...
"I'm here about last night anyway, not your vienna sausage. Either we talk, or I leave."
It was Aspen's turn to snort. "Heck yes, someone else to torture Maple with!"
This drew a small, unwitting smile from Cedar. Maple merely blinks in response, their half-lidded, unamused stare hiding genuine bemusement.
"Yeah. Sure."
A bit of true emotion shines through with the crack of a lopsided smirk.
"There's a decent chain nearby," the Sun-bearer suggests. "Or we could check out a nice tea place that just opened."
The other dragon shrugs.
"I think the chain might be better," the Moon-bearer decides, an ear flicking absently. "More people, so we're less likely to be overheard."
Maple's brow furrows.
"Wait, why would more people make us harder to overhear?" The Sun-bearer inquires.
Cedar resists the urge to scoff. It's not their fault, after all, that fiction has mislead people.
"It's louder. They'll focus more on their own business and leave us to ours."
Aspen taps a fingertip to their cheek. "So the reason cafés are popular for first dates is..."
"It's less private, yes," the Moon-bearer confirms. "Can't exactly tell someone in a quiet café that they're gonna get stabbed without turning a few heads."
"Speaking from experience?" Maple jibes, eliciting a scowl from the other. Too close to the truth for comfort.
"If you don't keep your mouth shut, you'll sure find out!" Cedar retorts, punctuating the threat with a raised brow.
The Sun-bearer's ears droop at their response. Tough crowd.
"Now are we going or not?" The Moon-bearer asks. Answer quickly, Maple.
Maple's gaze drifts to Aspen, who merely shoos the pair.
"I'm not going. I've got a potential lead on the bunker I need to check," The deer rebuffs. "You two have fun though. I'd say 'stay safe', but I'm pretty sure 'Reckless' is Maple's middle name."
A bemused noise is pulled from Cedar's throat. Maple merely rolls their eyes. The former nods toward the door.
"I'll bring you back some fries," the red dragon offers, the corners of their mouth tugging upward. "Make sure you live long enough to eat them, Captain Urbex."
They wave to their friend, and turn to follow Cedar out of the kitchen.
"Ha-ha," the deer counters sardonically. "You owe me for cleaning up the grease pit, by the way!"
"Thank youuuuuuuuu!" Maple calls back, the expression of gratitude quickly being muffled by the closing of the door.
As the pair of dragons shuffle off, Aspen is left in silence. Curry bubbles in a pot behind them. After an exhale, the deer turns to survey the kitchen.
"Welp," they ponder, bringing their thumbs up to scratch at their palms. "Where to begin...?"

trials and tribulations of 620 jones
Hazel, Gemma, and I sat around the table in 620 Jones and waited on our drinks to arrive. This was a nice, classy looking restaurant with vines and fairy lights decorating the lamp posts in their outdoor dining area. It was somewhere where you would take somebody out on a first or second date. They had fancy drinks with flowers in them and spritzers that I had never heard of before. There was chill jazz music playing over speakers disguised into the background. It was adorable, and it was exactly where I didn’t want to be.
Hazel and Gemma had just gone through pretty devastating and personal breakups before we took a girl’s trip to San Francisco. In fact, the whole reason we were there was because Hazel had to jump ship from Brooklyn because she was too hurt by a man that she met on Bumble a few months prior. It’s justified. He was very obviously choosing to satiate his mother over her on multiple occasions, and the cherry on top was Bumble Boy breaking the news that he could never marry Hazel, because his parents were devout members of the Jewish faith and that she was a black woman, the two could never mix. There was no way that he could work it out, or else they’d stop paying his rent. So, she booked an airbnb for a month across the country to soothe the pain caused from this momma’s boy. In turn, as her two best friends, we had free lodging in a new state.
It was a great girl’s trip, but sitting around that table, I absolutely wanted to go home. I had never felt that way before this moment. Gemma and Hazel, my lovely and beautiful friends, were on a very strong streak of planning too far ahead in the future. I picked at a hole in the wood on the table as they went through the same circles as always about their respective ex lovers. Gemma’s boyfriend left her because he was depressed and couldn’t love her fairly. I knew all of the gritty details of his side, but I couldn’t share them. She didn’t take well to understanding what he was going through, which was justified, because it had sprouted a leak in her emotional wellbeing as well. I had also gone through a breakup, but shitting on his existence didn’t spark joy like it used to months after it happened. I didn’t say anything for the full half hour that we waited for our drinks. They must have dolled up the place to make up for the slow customer service.
Upon getting served, I downed it all too fast and ordered another blueberry lemonade margarita. A year younger than both of my of-age friends, I was lucky to not get asked for an ID. They sipped on theirs at a moderate pace, continuing to equally laugh and vent as the night went on. I’m a team player so I didn’t try to curve the conversation towards a different topic, I sat and I laughed and I smiled along. I must have not been so convincing (or maybe Hazel’s drink was too strong), Because when I told her that I didn’t want to talk about exes anymore and that I was getting bored, the conversation came to a halt.
“What would you rather be doing?” she asked me, with a cold stare.
“I don’t know.” I fiddled with the hole in the table, but held eye contact. “Can we find a club with a dance floor?” I said back.
We looked at each other over the table. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention before, but I was suddenly very aware of how I looked and where my hands were. Gemma sat, switching her gaze between Hazel and I, and holding her drink up as if she was waiting to get back to her sentence.
“If you’re bored, we can go.” Hazel says back.
I felt like the villain with the way that she spoke with such seriousness.
I told her that I didn’t want to grow up so fast. That we were not even twenty five, and that marriage and spouses and kids were far away. I didn’t want to be sitting in a restaurant and dwelling on the past like we always did, we weren’t twenty and in California together forever. Gem said nothing. Hazel looked over the table and directly at me, no hint of a smile or relaxing of her eyebrows. I was poking at her bleeding wound.
“Adulthood is managing your expectations. Life isn’t always a party.”
The statement hits like a rubber mallet. I break our eye contact and fumble with my rings. I didn’t want to start a debate. Hazel was right in a way, but I don’t entirely believe it. I didn’t say anything back. I took an overexaggerated sip of my drink, and they returned to conversation. I picked at the wood on the table and googled nightclubs near us, for when they got it all out of their systems.
