Do we always forget how young these kids were back in tmi?

Sometimes when reading (at least what I tend to do) I ignore completely the fact that they’re children. When I was younger, probably the age of the characters in the book, I ignored it but always had the image that they were older, taller, like adults.

Growing up and having more than 20 years old, now I look back at them and realize they were underage human beings that were neglected by their government and parents. Mostly abandoned bc they had to grow up ‘fast’ bc that’s what shadowhunters do.

Let’s not forget that Jace was 16 :)

I have a theory that since in SOBH Julian found the blackthorn sword handle and said he’d have it remade (or something along those lines don’t quote me I haven’t read SOBH in forever)

that the blackthorn is going to be turned into a Sabre (to honour Livvy) and that Dru is going to use it (reminiscent to when Julian called her the heart of the family).

Prunus spinosa (blackthorn)

Prunus is a genus of shrubs and trees that includes plums, cherries, peaches, nectarines, apricots, and almonds. A lot of them have white flowers and a lot of them bloom in the spring. This species, (probably) Prunus spinosa, is in my neighbor's back garden. It seems to take the approach that 'more is better' and is totally covered in these snow white blooms.

Blackthorn was brought to North America by British settlers and it's very hard, dense wood was at one time used to make Irish shillelaghs (a cross between a walking stick and a hefty club). As a food crop it fails compared to many other members of the genus but it sure knows how to turn on the charm on a sunny, spring morning.
