Day 3 of my Mothtober is the Hummingbird Hawkmoth!

Privet Hawk Moth - Mothtober #30

This hawk-moth is huge, with 12 cms. It's original area is Europe but it has been accidentaly introduced in Australia, Canada, New-Zeland and USA where it became an invasive specie. It can be see between May and August. If you disturb it, it can hiss.

About the drawing

This one was both simple and complicated to do. I had lots of trouble for the abdomen part but I was fun to render the smooth gradients of the wings.

It was just going to be the moths and the piano, but then I decided it was too much brown and I needed to add some flowers. Soooo I added pink rosebuds- which symbolize girlhood, beauty, innocence- and baby’s breath. Iykyk. I’m a terrible person. Also I was just as traumatized by that plotline as everybody else.

Second week of MOTHtober is finished!!!

Prompt this week was "Royalty Au" so I drew Nathan in a more Royal looking outfit with the background a bit Tudor house styled.

October 4th is Cecropia moth, my fave!

The small elephant hawk moth - Mothtober #19

This small moth can be mistaken with the Elephant Hawk moth, but a few things help differenciate them. First, as its name says, it's smaller. Then the big one is greener, the small yellower. And finally the elephant hawk moth has a pink stripe along its abdomen, that the small elephant hawk doesn't have.

This moth can be found from May to July in Coastal Europe, North Africa and central Asia.

It's a nice change to use so pink. The flowers surrounding the moth are inspired by a specie they like to feed on.

Next week I'll be off for work but I scheduled the drawing to be posted everyday. For those who joined me in this challenge, I wish you energy and motivation to finish it!
