Black Opal Meaning, History, Healing Properties, Advantages and Zodiac Association
Black Opal stands separated from other opal assortments because of its dim body tone, which fills in as a background for energetic glimmers of variety to arise. This gemstone holds a high incentive for its special play of variety and extraordinariness. It begins with a type of hazy opal called potch opal, recognized by its profound body tone. When a potch opal shows a radiant play of variety, it procures the assignment of Black Opal. Among its essential properties is its ability to improve instinct and critical thinking abilities. It is important to engage the wearer to pay attention to their gut feelings and pursue very informed decisions.

Updated Post. Imma be real for a sec, some of the new information that was brought to my attention is amazing and, in fact, very helpful, so I'm making an updated post to this one here.
A Beginners Guide to Crystals.
How to spot fakes (typically glass) and dyed crystals, Crystal Shapes, and Crystal Color Associations are the topics in this post.
How to spot glass, resin, and other types of fake crystals. (You can still 100% use them in witchcraft, but if you want genuine crystals, then this guide may help you do just that!)
If you think that your crystals are fake, here are some things you can look and do to tell.
Rubbing your crystal with a finger should reveal tiny pores on the surface of the crystal. If it does not have any pores and is instead completely smooth, then it's possible that it's glass or resin.
While some crystals can have naturally formed air bubbles in them, it is rare and may just be glass that was shaped into the crystal.
You can easily search up "fake crystal name" vs. "real crystal name" and compare the two pictures.
You can also look up "dyed crystals" vs. "undyed crystals" to see what a natural coloring of crystals should look like.
If you're worried that your turquoise is fake, then you can take the tip of a hot pin and press it into the crystal, if it burns then it's real, however if it starts to melt its a fake.
Opalite and Goldstone are glass crystals, man made.
9/10 times if your Crystal looks very brightly colored it could have been dyed.
I'll put in some pictures of glass/resin crystals next to the real crystals to show the difference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Natural coloring of crystals occurs because of the different metals and other minerals that are absorbed during the creation of the crystal. Quartz is just silica and oxygen, so it's appears colorless, but when iron is absorbed, it creates purple or yellow, depending on how oxidized the iron was in the creation of the crystal.
Tumblr media
Natural citrine does form, but it's not going to look burned or splochty.
Splotchy color in crystals usually means that it's been dyed, as you can see in the first two images. Dyed crystals also very obviously look dyed because of how brightly they are colored.
Tumblr media
Even in Malachite, the green in the fake malachite is brighter than the genuine malachite. You can also look at the unnatural banding on the fake and compare it to real malachite.
Tumblr media
Real opal is not see-through like Opalite is. Real opal is more clouded with spots of color, while opalite will have streaks of color or look like the see-through ones above.
Tumblr media
Real turquoise is going to have brown or black webbings and cracks or chips, while dyed howlite is going to be smooth with brown or black inclusions. You can take a swab of acetone and rub it across the crystal to see if any coloring comes off. If the color does come off or the crystal looks lighter in the spot, then it's more than likely dyed howlite. You can also do that hot pin trick mentioned above.
The picture on the left is dyed howlite, while on the right is the natural turquoise. You can see that the natural crystal has deep webbing into the stone, very obvious cracks while the holite doesn't have cracks, only webbing that looks like it but it's going to be smooth along those lines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crystal Shapes in witchcraft
Double pointed- absorbs and emits energy.
Cluster- Radiates energy.
One point- concentrates and directs energy.
Raw- Strong open energy.
If the crystal is more round then the energy is going to be calmer
If the crystal has multiple points, then the energy is directed off of each point.
The size of the crystal doesn't dictate the amount of energy it gives off.
Different crystals have different energies that they give off. The ones most commonly used in witchcraft and their properties are listed below.
Clear quartz- Clarity
Amethyst- Grounding
Citrine- Happiness
Rose quartz- love
Black Tourmaline- Protection
Obsidian- also protection
Aventurine- luck
Tigers eye- money
Labradorite- aura healing and protection
There are many other crystals that give off similar energies that can be used. As stated, these are just some of the more commonly seen ones.
Now, different crystals can give off different energies depending on the person using them. Some people may see use amethyst as protection rather than obsidian or black tourmaline. Some may use aventurine for money spells over tigers eye. That's 100% okay.
Crystal Color Associations.
Color associations can depend on how the witch feels about a color. This is the general association plus how I use colors in my path.
Red- Anger/passion
Orange- Courage (or in my case repulsion)
Yellow- Happiness
Green- Luck and money
Blue- Calming or sadness (depending on the mood)
Purple- Spirituality
Brown- grounding
Pink- self love
Grey- solemn, seriousness.
With some crystals, the color is also associated with the things listed above. However, again, not all witches will use the color associations of crystals this way, and that's 100% okay. Each witch has a different path and different associations when it comes to the tools they use in their path.
If you're interested in learning about what energies different crystals give off, often just googling "what is crystal name used for in healing" and you will receive an answer.
Though with any type of research, please look at 3-5 other sources that say the same or similar thing. Though it may take more digging to come to a conclusion.
Thank you for reading the updated post, and let me know if I missed anything or if you'd like to add anything. A big thanks to everyone who has corrected the previous post on this subject and any posts that may have contained misinformation in them.

Oyster Returns The Pearl- A Cookie Run Kingdom One Shot
After realizing what her ancestor had done and the mistake he brought upon her dear friends the Gem Mermaids, Oyster Cookie decides to take it upon herself and fix what was broken.
Note: Based on THAT scene of Moana.
Spoilers for the new update ahead!!
The rain poured down on the streets of The Creme Republic, with thunder and lightning filling the skies above. Everyone had gone inside to escape the horrid weather and enjoy a nice hot drink to help their tired bodies. Well, Almost everyone. Captain Caviar Cookie as well as Oyster Cookie decided to do what no other cookie had done before- return stolen property. “Come on, Captain Caviar! She needs this more than we do!” Oyster said, helping her friend as well as his own crew make their way to the shores.
“We’re going as fast as we can, Oyster!” Captain Caviar yelled as the Salty Sharks and Candy Diver bounded behind him. In the distance, they saw Black Pearl Cookie commanding a furious tempest, as if driving her anger towards the land cookies who had betrayed her so long ago. “We have to hurry! There’s no time!” Oyster shouted as she climbed up the rock in her own heels, knowing that this was her only chance to make things right. She then held up the jet black Pearl, and it shone like a beacon in the distance.
This alerted the giant gem mermaid to Oyster’s presence, and her sisters Crimson Coral, Gold Citrine, Aquamarine, and Mystic Opal as well as everyone else; Frilled Jellyfish included, watched in awe as Oyster climbed down the rock and towards the area where land and sea met. “Let her come to me.” She said in a determined tone, still holding the Pearl. At that moment, the ocean split in two- allowing for both parties to pass through. Black Pearl swam forward with an unstoppable rage, while Oyster just gracefully walked forward- singing a lullaby of reassurance and hope.
I have crossed the horizon to find you
I know your name
They have stolen the heart from inside you
But this does not define you
This is not who you are
You know who you are
The moment Oyster finished her lullaby, Black Pearl towered over her, her face more calm than anyone had ever seen. “Who you truly are.” Oyster uttered softly. Holding the gemstone, she walked up to the massive siren and said: “Black...no. WHITE Pearl Cookie- I can't take away all the years of suffering my ancestor has made you endure, but I can finally give back what he stole from you and…..help you heal...” the house head explained, holding up the precious stone. Upon witnessing her Pearl for the first time in years, Black Pearl started crying. “Y-Y-You gave it back…!” She said through her sobs, seeing the precious gemstone.
“So please, take this. It doesn't belong to me; it never has...” Oyster said as the siren continued crying, her tears that had been held back over the years finally flowing free. “T-T-Thank you... thank you so much..!” The mermaid said as she profusely thanked the cookie who gave back the most precious thing in her life through her tears. “Anything for a friend of mine.” Oyster said as she was picked up by Black Pearl, the former drying the tears of the latter as the clouds began to dissipate above them, the sun warming up all around it. “I’m sorry… I am so sorry…! And ashamed of all the lives I took and how blinded by rage and anger I was… I’ll do anything to make it up to all of you, but I… don’t think… I’ve earned my redemption…!” The mermaid said as she cried bitterly. “We weren’t angry at you. We were just sad… that you lost your way and who you were.” Crimson Coral replied as she swam up to her sister. “I… I did lose my way… and who I truly was.” The giant siren replied as she hung her head down in shame.
“But thanks to us, you’ve found both again.” Captain Caviar replied as he swam down to where his friends were. “And you weren’t alone in doing so. And we’re so happy you’ve found your way here… and who you truly are!” Friiled Jellyfish said enthusiastically. “OYSTER!!” Everyone yelled as Black Pearl, who was now back to her true self aka White Pearl, gracefully placed Oyster back on solid ground. “I did what I had to do.” She said with a smile. “And it was the right thing to do.” Crimson Coral began. “You saved our sister.” Aquamarine continued. “And for that…” started Gold Citrine. “We’re more than grateful for what you’ve done.” Mystic Opal finished. “How can I ever thank you?” White Pearl Cookie said, her now silver eyes filled with eternal gratitude. “You already have. By sharing your secrets with me since I was small.” Oyster replied, kissing the siren on the cheek. The cookie who had fixed her ancestor’s mistake had finally done the impossible- help Black Pearl regain the trust she had lost.
The End

Some pretty gnarly effects on these Gloves for a Paladin in DnD! But I bet they could lead to some really epic and memorably moments if you went ham with them! What do you think?
Wrath and Repose
Wondrous Item, very rare
“These heavy steel gauntlets are made of two different materials, a black alloy that reflects no light and another that is bright with a mirror-like shine. The left gauntlet houses a black opal, while the right is embedded with a white pearl.” Aura of Mending. When you use your lay on hands to heal a target, you can sacrifice an equal amount of your hit points. All allies within 15 feet of you gain temporary hit points equal to the amount you sacrifice. This property of the gauntlets can't be used again until you finish a long rest.
Enfeebling Touch. You can use your lay on hands to temporarily debilitate an enemy. You can spend your lay on hands to give a creature a penalty to attack until the end of its next turn. For every point of your lay on hands pool you spend, they suffer a -1 penalty. You suffer an equal penalty to your armor class until the end of your next turn.

Ball/Sphere: Crystal that is shaped into a ball from a larger piece of crystal…quartz crystals rarely occurs naturally as a sphere. The Sphere is associated with Harmony, scrying, even energy all around.
Crystal Pyramid: Manifestation, intently focused energy. prosperity.
A crystal shaped like a pyramid, it has four equal triangular sides that meet to a point with a flat square base. It’s effective for amplifying energy. *Egyptian used the pyramids to send the pharaoh's soul straight to the gods. Crystal Generators and Obelisks are 2 shapes that are often confused with one another, just count the number of sides. A generator has six equal sides and an Obelisk has four. Generators, Obelisks and Pyramids are great shapes to direct/amplify energy. Better used in crystal grids, as it will amplify/boost energy.
Crystal Wands: Healing and rituals, moving/directing energy.
Crystal wands have many uses, they can be used for massage therapy (eg a massage wand), acupressure and reflexology. They can also be used to direct energy in a certain direction, draw negative energy away from you and to activate crystal grids. Crystal wands can be used for chakra healing.
Crystal Eggs: Balance, Fertility, healing
The pointed end of an egg shaped crystal is often used by practitioners of acupressure, reflexology and massage. Similar to spheres, crystal eggs are a great shape to hold whilst meditating. Crystal eggs represent fertility, birth and new beginnings.
Cluster: A group of crystals growing together having many points and sharing the same base clusters rapidly radiate energy in all directions. The cluster radiates energy, meditation and unity.
Crystal Cube: consolidates energy, grounding and meditation, connects to the energy of the earth.
Tumbled: Gentle, constant energyRaw: Strong, Sporadic, pure energy.Double Terminated/Twin: Receives and emits energy transmits informationPalm: Grounding, healing, “Worry stone.”
Isis: Feminine energy, healing emotional, hurt and distress.Geode: Amplifies, conserves and releases energy, internal healing.
Crystal Heart: Sends love across time and space.Crystal Points, Generators and Obelisks: Energy amplifier, six facets
There are 219 Crystals [And I do not have the time or energy to go over ALL of them when we Wiccans can’t use/afford that many, and so we’ll only cover the basics/most used Crystals.
So other than Shapes that signify the ‘power’ of the crystal, what about a specific use? So here is a list of most common crystals that I have seen, that was recommended by other witches or popped up in my readings.
Amethyst | Azurite  | Ametrine  | Aquamarine  |  Agate  |  Amazonite  | Bloodstone  |  Beta  |  Black Obsidian  |   Bismuth  | Chinese writing rock, chrysoprase, Chrysoprase, Citrine, Clear Quartz,  Dream Quartz, Danburite, diamond, Dalmation Stone Fluorite. | Garnet. Herkimer Diamond | Hematite | Jasper | Jade | Kyanite | Kunzite Lepidolite/Lapis Lazuli, Labradorite Malachite | Nephrite | Opal | Onyx | Pink Opal  |   Peridot  |  Rose Quarts  |  Rhodonite, Ruby | Sardonyx  |  Selenite, Sapphire, Sunstone, Smoky Quartz, Scolecite, seraphinite | Topaz | Tigers Eye  |  Tourmaline  |  Zoisite
*Clear Quartz: A substitute in case you can’t use a specific crystal for an intention or spell.
What you NEED to KNOW!
*Need to KNOW
Be VERY careful with crystals. Not ALL of them can be in direct sunlight and not ALL can be placed in water. Some Crystals are sun/water types and if you need to charge them or use them make sure you know which is which!
Crystals that will dissolve or have a chemical reaction when exposed to water. ____________________________________________________________

Birthstones: October🎃
October is upon us! October's two birthstones, opal and tourmaline, are both known for their variety of colours. Tourmaline comes in every colour, and can even be dual coloured, and opals shine with rainbow colour. Let’s discuss their physical and metaphysical properties as we begin the month.
Opal
Tumblr media
Opals are actually made of the same material quartzes are: silicon oxide (SiO₂). However, the one addition that differentiates them in chemical makeup is water. Opals don't just look like the one above. The move valuable opals are called precious opals, and display play-of-colour, that rainbow shimmer effect seen above. Opals without are called common opal. The play-of-colour is formed by the layers of silica spheres: when the spheres are larger, they produce red, while the smallest spheres create violet.
Opal is a versatile gemstone that offers various benefits. It enhances trust in one's feelings, balances mood swings, awakens psychic and mystical qualities, and releases fear. Opal is associated with love, passion, and desire, intensifying and releasing inhibitions. It amplifies and reflects thoughts and feelings, acting as a protective stone against negative thoughts and energies. Opal can provide a sense of invisibility and aid in stealthy situations. It also has physical benefits such as treating infections, reducing fevers, improving immune function, and alleviating respiratory issues. Opal improves memory, eases the birthing process, and fights infections. Furthermore, it enhances spiritual growth, facilitates communication with the spirit realm, and boosts psychic abilities. Different types of opal may possess distinct properties.
Opals are ranked as a 5 to 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, while its toughness can vary enough to make opal a stone that requires care to not break or scratch if wearing. Due to the water inherent in its structure, opals fracture in high heat. Opal should only be cleaned in warm, soapy water.
Tourmaline
Tumblr media
Tourmalines are often not called tourmalines, instead called a different name based on colour. All tourmalines contain boron and silicon, but may contain sodium, lithium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, chromium, vanadium, fluorine, or copper to colour it. The most common type of tourmaline is elbaites, which tend to be made of sodium, lithium, and aluminum. Black tourmaline, sometims called schorl, is iron-rich. The colour zoning seen above is caused when a crystal forms under a changing amount of colourants.
The healing properties of tourmaline seem to rest mostly on what colour they are, of which I cannot succinctly give a good list. However, in general, tourmaline is believed to transform negative thoughts into positive ones, aid in self-understanding, promote self-confidence, and attracts inspiration, compassion, tolerance, and prosperity. It is though to boost the immune and nervous systems, aid digestion, strengthen bones and teeth, and improve hand-eye coordination.
Tourmaline is a 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale with fair toughness. It's colour is generally stable in light, but high heat may alter the colour. Some tourmalines are irradiated to improve colour, which may fade in heat or bright light. Warm, soapy water is best for cleaning tourmalines.
