Hey Tumblr! Black women in the US are at a higher risk of dying from pregnancy-related complications. Let's address this issue during Black Maternal Health Week. We can eliminate racial disparities in maternal health by addressing systemic racism and poverty and supporting access to quality healthcare services. Join us in advocating for policy changes and supporting community-based organizations working towards improving maternal health outcomes for Black women.
Black Maternal Health Week: Addressing Racial Disparities in Maternal Health
Maternal health is an essential issue in the United States, and Black Maternal Health Week is a week-long initiative aimed at addressing the racial disparities in maternal health outcomes. The week takes place every year from April 11th to April 17th, and it is an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by Black women during pregnancy and childbirth. The Centers for Disease…

Can we talk about motherhood and ADHD or any other neuro divergent disorders?
Cause like I’m dying. From the crumbs in my bed to becoming a human jungle gym…… Im having sensory overload and I. Am. Dying.
I can get extremely irritated and mean and I don’t wanna be but how can I tell a one year old “mommy doesn’t want to be touched, hugged, kissed or climbed on right now” ? I can’t. So I just take it and my brain goes fucking bizurk.

Imma be real. The biggest reason i don't care for masc(male or even just masculine)Percy Jackson is it feels like it defeats a massive purpose of Percy's writing if she's not transfem.A big core arc Percy has throught the books is trauma forced upon her by older men and others attempting to force her into male/masculine roles that she is explicitly uncomfortable in and overcoming them and refusing to let herself be put into their boxes so she can live her truth and be happier than when under their thumb and the connection to that and Percy being female is drawn with how content she is in femininity and around women. Her most beloved person is Sally, she liked her time around Rachel and Rachel as a person better than her time around most people she's met,she choose to hang out with Silena over The Stolls and contrary to popular belief, she is closer to Thalia and Hazel than to any of The Seven boys. And there are also external forces that indicate Percy is already canonically girly and not like a typical guy
Persephone stated she is different from your usual demigods,Piper said in her narration she's not the manly man people at Camp Half-Blood make her out to be,Nico is a gay boy who had a crush on Percy until he realized she's not the ideal man he thought she was out of idealizing her as someone she never was and The Titan's Curse pretty much revolves around proving Percy isn't like a boy. That was what made her earn Zoe's friendship,Artemis' approval and Thalia's respect. If ALL this isn't a leadup to Percy growing up to be a trans woman and transitioning in her adult years, then what's even the point? It's the both the most logical conclusion and the most narratively satisfying one. It's the most realistic one too.Percy's experiences, relathionships, personality, apperance(in terms of her aesthetic)and even her character concept(audhd amab child who's demonized for existing and always means well but gets treated like she's doing something wrong no matter what, stands out even amongst fellow outcasts as she grows up and is constantly talked down to by men and cis women alike in power despite knowing and doing better than them)are extremely reflective of irl transgender women
So i'm just like.If this is Percy Jackson, why is she not a trans girl? That's the whole point of her,no?If she's not a trans girl, then she's not Percy Jackson.I like her better as a girl and she makes more sense to me as a girl and Percy would like herself better as a girl too and she'd make more sense to herself as a girl too

i didn't realize how much like... "the thing that is obviously happening isn't happening" is almost just as exhausting and demoralizing and frustrating and scary as the thing itself for me. i didn't realize that aspect of things was weighing on me almost as much as the thing itself until now
#non religion#negative -#mostly in tags sorry i'm ranting#almost anytime i talk to my mom about politics it's “that's not what's really happening” “that's not what they meant”#“that's not what's going to happen”#and she thinks she's helping. she thinks she's quelling my fears or whatever#but she's not as politically involved as i am (and calls herself a conservative) and is just. saying shit#she's telling me the things i'm seeing aren't happening. that i didn't hear the things i heard#that the things they're saying are going to happen aren't going to happen#she HAS to give everyone else the benefit of the doubt#but can't give ME the benefit of the doubt that i know what the fuck i'm talking about#it doesn't make me feel less fearful in any way shape or form. i just feel like i'm going crazy#like i'm so sure her reaction to the elon clip would be “well that LOOKS bad but he probably didn't mean it like that” like#i'm losing my shit. i'm losing my shit. i'm losing my shit#she does this when i talk about being black (im biracial moms white) she does this when i talk about being gay she does this w politics lik#NO it's not a compliment when people touch my hair without asking#exposing your BLACK husband & children to your racist dad and step mom so we could “change their minds” put us in an UNSAFE POSITION#“90% of christians don't care that you're gay” INCORRECT “it doesn't matter that pence said he wants to hang gays” YES IT FUCKING DOES#“they're not going after trans adults it's just regulating what kids have access to” INCORRECT. AGAIN#i'm LOSING MY SHIT#it is INSANE the amount of grace i'm expected to extend to ppl who don't see me as human. people who want me dead. who want my friends dead#i'm blocking so many tags and people this week idec#i just can't deal rn

a complex sirius who loves his family, especially his mom, is so much more tragic and nuanced and interesting than a sirius who flat out hates his family and i will die on that hill

I just found out that my mom has a jewish grandfather who has roots from germany making him as ashkenazi despite being born in the west indies.
since judaism comes from the mom, it doesnt really matter if she got it from her mom or dad does it ?? all that matters is that it comes from the moms side. if the mother has jewish roots from her side then that her kids r jewish. by those means im jewish ????
never knew i was a jew until the age of nearly 17 and I havent celebrated shabbat or read torah, traditions, explored judaism and no nothing, worn a kippah, did hanukkah candles, went to a synagogue (except on my school trip but I was still so young???), and more.
how the fuck like
im in so much shock like you mean to tell me i am a jew all this time ??? and the fact that my uncle explained the judaism line in our family aka his family. like the jewish side comes from my uncle and mom (since they r bothers and sisters since they were both born to my grandma which had my mom so its my moms brother) their side is the German side (ashkenazi) and my moms grandfather (my great grandfather) is a jew from germany. his mother is jewish and the judaism is only in the father’s side all the way to my mom passed my grandma making it my moms side of the family.
like. u mean to tell me. I am jewish ??? JEWISH ???? ALL THIS TIME ???
I asked her yesterday to make me and her do an ancestry test and find out what else is in our tree. I come from an extremely diverse background so I wouldnt be suprised if HALF the generation is a jew up until this point of the grandfather.
the fact it is from the father’s side only ????? like... I AM SO IN SHOCK ???
#being jewish struggles#yall im a jew after all this time#imagine hiding it from me and i wouldnt have known#the family tree is... interesting...#its the way it was the rememberance of the tragic thing of jewish people and i ask my uncle#“hey r there any jews in our family?” and he goes “yeah there r some in japan too.. u got japanese jews you got german jews#and a few more..” ???????#like ??????????????? what the actual fuck#im so glad im taking the test that me and my mom r about to do I NEED TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE JEWISH SIDE#apparently due to where he comes from there are alot of diverse jews#like in his country where he was born (in the west indies) there were polish jews dutch jews sephardic jews and for my mom#her side is syrian and she has muslim people as well as jewish people who are mizrahi as well#im not even suprised if it stretches further than i expect it to#its the way i wouldnt have known if i never have asked. right now we r checking the tree to see what else is there#i guess im a proud jew ???? never had a jewish lifestyle so hopefully when i get a job and a house i can feel closer to my roots#i hope i still count as a jew.#judaism#jewish#multiracial and jewish struggles#i hate it here#why does the jewish line come from my MOM but it has to BE the DADS SIDE ONLY URGHHHH the best part about it is that its from the moms side#so matter what ur considered jewish AS LONG AS ITS ON MY MOTHER’S LINE since judaism is about the mom...very VERY STRICT about who is n not#so im black/white & asian with arab desi creole african european west indian (west indies) & jewish... interesting...#watch me get something more suprising. my great grandma is indian like fully blown indian mixed w bengali and pakistani and her background#is sri lankan.. my great grandfather is jewish from germany.. my great great great great grandma and father r muslims.. my head hurts#ITS TOO MUCH FUCKING INFORMATION LIKE HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FUCKING GRASP ON ALL THAT..#all i know is that my momma dont believe in a religion. she leans into islam and sometimes god. my dad is FULLY Christian.#not suprised if hes also hiding jewish roots in the tree and hid it from me since he is kinda... deceased now.#like i said im taking a dna test and find out my roots and connect the dots because THIS is all insane. ALL INSANE.

Looking back at Girl Meets World, it will forever irritate me especially for how they handled/treated Angela. Oh this show really hated black women because how do you not only 1.) describe her, one of (correct me if I'm wrong) only few black and MAIN characters of the og show, as a "concept" 2.) have characters show obvious disgust at the small mention of her name 3.) depict her as a homewrecker for a new relationship that, really, shouldn't have ever happened 4.) have her old friends treat her like dirt and her old lover like she is the root of his problems, when there was nothing but positive love there 5.) reuse all the concepts from said previous love story just to elevate the new ship with a yte woman and 6.) compare her to Hurricane Katrina, one of the deadliest hurricanes that caused significant numbers of death, harm, misplacement, and trauma to people, largely of whom were black? Mind you, all these points I mentioned were toward the only main black character of the OG show before the spinoff, and the only, from what I can remember, black female character of the spinoff who didn't even stay long. Not even getting into the racist drama with some of the members on set, but you cannot look me in the eye and tell me that the way the show handled Angela, her story, and her relationship with the other characters + Shawn wasn't fucking disrespectful, you can't because I won't believe you.
#boy meets world#girl meets world#like this show had so many issues (from its depiction of autism to religious intolerance to supporting grooming)#but this was a whole other level#it was especially hurtful as a young black girl to see growing bc i really tried to like this show with its lacking diversity#but coming from watching bmw to this a show from the 90s that depicted a black character better than a 2010s show- u get my point#and its so wrong bc it depicts angela as being the one to end the relationship when all she said in bmw how she#didn't want to see her leaving as a goodbye and there was ambiguous hope for the future#also shoving shawn to be with maya's mom was really unnecessary#not only bc of how it depicted being raised in a single parent household so negatively#but that the only way to solve maya's problems was for her...to have a dad? like that really isn't how it works#i blissfully live in the delulu where angela and shawn came back together once she left europe and he eventually married her#after they graduated college and have a beautiful family together#shawn x angela#don't even get me started on how whenever there was a guest cameo it was met audience applause and happy reactions#but when it was for angela: crickets 😬#back to maya- i feel like it would have been better for her story if shawn didn't marry her mother (and was with angela) and u would see her#hope and wish for the opposite to where it nearly consumes her only to finally be sat down and informed that#even if shawn isn't with your mom he'll still be in your life as a father figure no matter what#i personally feel like that would've been better#but this is largely just s rant so forgive the structure of it al

When it comes to Colorism and texturism in tv and movies, it’s a very gendered issue.
I don’t know if any of y’all have noticed, but Black men will hardly, if ever, let a biracial who’s lightskinned, has below type 4 curls, and has Eurocentric features play them in any type of way. From what I’ve observed, when it comes to modern tv shows and movies their representation is leaning more towards the dark skinned side.
Meanwhile, black women and girls are actively played by biracials who are very light, very loose when it comes to hair texture, has some Eurocentric features. One of the few times we get darkskinned representation, it’s usually going to be in some very masculinizing, or an angry black woman, or a sidekick(There are exceptions like Lunella from Moongirl and Devil Dinosaur).
But what I’m trying to say is, how is it that the media remembers that darkskinned black men and boys can exist in roles that aren’t demeaning in some way, but suddenly it’s a hard task to portray darkskinned black woman and girls?
If they can give black men and boys good darkskinned representation, they can give black women and girls ours.
